Theory#3: Asimov made QUILL for revenge.
Asimov was powerless while being experimented on at S-FIT. After fleeing and creating QUILL, he was in charge of the entire company. This gave him a sense of power and control, something he lacked in his life when he was a child. He practically pitted QUILL specifically against Sumeragi. The original Azure Striker may have been hoping to get revenge on his tormentor.
Once he fled S-FIT, Takefutsu turned around to make sure he was free. He soon found his way to Henoji Island and used it as a base with other people who refused to submit to Sumeragi's rule. With the aid of some other anti-Sumeragi renegades, Takefutsu founded QUILL in Tokyo. He wanted to be close to Sumeragi to always know their next move.
After many years of trying to build QUILL from the ground up and keep business running, Takefutsu lost contact with the group that inspired his fight against Sumeragi. Takefutsu decided to change his name to Asimov. In this way, nobody within Sumeragi would know it was him if his identity was accidentally revealed. He finally felt like he could do something to help.
He set up many attacks against Japan's major governing body. There was even a raid on the UTU Media Tower's Kamishiro barrier generators. This allowed Gino, codenamed Zeno and Monica, codenamed Moniqa, to join the fight in Japan. While gathering information, Asimov received word that Project Gunvolt was being recontinued.
A sudden unstoppable burst of rage flared throughout his mind. He wasn't going to let Sumeragi repeat what they did to him. So, he went to the facility where Project Gunvolt was taking place and broke in. Upon entering, Asimov found a nine year old boy with blond hair and blue eyes being electrocuted with lightning.
The two scientists were just staring at him, completely unmoving. This only added fuel to the fire burning in Asimov's eyes. He used the barrel of his E.A.T.R. gun to smash the glass and helped the boy escape. This made Asimov feel better to say the least.
For a while, he felt like a new man. This was certain to be a major hole in Sumeragi's plans. And sure enough, it was. It completely brought Project Gunvolt to a halt. Being 19 and running a business certainly was a venture.
While on call with QUILL's founder, Gunvolt decided to ask him an important question.
"Say Asimov, why exactly did you start QUILL?" Gunvolt wondered.
"You know why already GV. I started QUILL so Adepts across the globe can obtain freedom and rights. So they can live in peace without worry of being hunted. What else is there to know?" Asimov answered.
"I don't know, I just felt like there was another driving force behind your decision." Gunvolt supposed.
"Well, you're right about that. You reminded me of why I started this company. For years, Sumeragi's made it their goal to expose Adepts for monsters and energy sources. While keeping it all under the public's radar, Sumeragi made sure none of their true intentions were known by the press or media. I took it as my sworn duty to Adepts everywhere to expose Sumeragi for the criminals they are." Asimov explained.
"When did you know you wanted to do that?" Gunvolt queried.
"I always felt like I wanted to do something to help other Adepts." Asimov confirmed.
Gunvolt heard a beeping on Asimov's end.
"It looks like time's up, huh? I'd better let you go then, goodnight Asimov." Gunvolt spoke before hanging up.
That night, Gunvolt and Joule were happily sitting eating curry. However, Joule noticed an odd look on Gunvolt's face.
"Is something the matter GV? You look rather concerned." Joule worried.
"Huh? Oh, that. Nothing's wrong at all Joule. I'm just thinking about something." Gunvolt assured.
"I see, so, what are you thinking about?" Joule questioned.
"I asked Asimov why he wanted to start QUILL. He told me some stuff. But for some reason, I feel like he didn't tell me the entire truth." Gunvolt responded.
Decades later, Gunvolt didn't expect the question to resurface from another female companion.
"Hey GV, I had something I wanted to ask you. But, if you're too busy doggy paddling in your sleep,I'll come back later." Kirin commented.
Gunvolt let out a low growl and sighed.
"Sure, what is it?" Gunvolt asked.
"That Asimov guy, he was the one who founded QUILL right? What happened to him?" Kirin pondered.
"He wanted Joule and I to rule the world with some sort of Adept monarchy possibly. With us ruling as king and queen. He thought I would use you to replace Joule, which could never happen. He wanted revenge on Sumeragi for what they did to me and all other Adepts. So, he built up an army of both humans and Adepts to wage war against Sumeragi. Someone once told me I had nice hands. But, truth be told, there's been too much blood on these hands for them to be nice." Gunvolt elaborated.
"Hey, cheer up. You did what you had to so you could survive. Besides, not many people have the guts to do what you did. Having the guts to splatter guts is a real talent nowadays." Kirin remarked.
"I never wanted there to be any bloodshed, I still don't. Sumeragi's workers were always very loyal to the company they were employed by. Even the scientists who experimented on me stayed with Sumeragi. Regardless of the possibility they would get fired for letting me go." Gunvolt explained.
"Would you say you had that kind of loyalty to QUILL?" Kirin assumed.
"I did, until I had to leave them with Joule." Gunvolt confirmed.
"Joule?" Kirin muttered.
"She was who generated Lumen originally. Asimov wanted me to kill her since Sumeragi was using her for Adept sonar. But I refused, I gave up my job and safety for her. And if someone asked me, I would repeat it a hundred times over. A million if I could, just to see her smile for a second longer." Gunvolt elucidated.
