Wally groaned as he threw his head back in frustration. He then looked down at his uniform, the Flash symbol now covered in strawberry yogurt. The one and a half year old sitting next to him giggled and clapped her hands together as the speedster wiped it off the best he could with a napkin. Wally then sighed and put on a lopsided grin. He couldn't stay annoyed at his niece for long with how adorable she was.
"Come on now kiddo," Wally gently ruffled her hair, causing Emma to giggle more. He then grabbed another napkin and he began to wipe her hands of the yogurt. "You can't be throwing food at your favorite Uncle Wally. It's not nice. You gotta be nice to Uncle Wally."
The speedster then lightly sighed before lightly frowning. Wally was used to watching Emma but only for a few hours at a time and certainly not overnight. John had dropped off Emma yesterday in the morning. It was now early in the evening. Thankfully Linda had been off the day before, as it was Thanksgiving, and was able to help. Wally's mother had also been over for the holiday and had lent a hand. Wally wasn't so fortune today and had to lug the toddler with him up to the Watchtower. He had to deal with every tantrum, had to try to think of an excuse every time the little girl demanded to have her Mommy and Daddy, and he had to do it all by himself.
The Flash was just thankful that he hadn't been called off on a League mission at all. Otherwise he would have been forced to find someone to watch the little girl for him. Both Superman and J'onn were on separate deep space missions. Diana was helping with the fallout from massive storms that had hit in Sri Lanka. Batman hardly came to the Metro Tower or Watchtower anymore since the whole fiasco with Ra's al Ghul that happened two years prior. Wally didn't have any choices when it came to the founders. He supposed he'd have to ask either Mari or Dinah at that point. Though he considered that Courtney had more babysitting experience than the other two heroines.
The speedster then swallowed as his frown deepened. He just hoped nothing was wrong. It hadn't taken this long when Shayera had Emma. Though Shayera had a high pain tolerance and had apparently slept through the beginning stages of labor when she had Emma. The Thanagarian hadn't been as lucky this time around. Wally figured if he didn't hear anything within the next hour he would leave the Watchtower with the little girl and go back home.
"Emma want appa," the little girl's voice broke Wally out of his thoughts. He looked down just as the toddler tugged on his arm with both of her small hands. "Uncle Wally get Emma appa."
"Uh right," Wally faltered as he scratched the back of his head. "Uncle Wally's gonna get you an appa. If Uncle Wally can figure out what that is."
"Want appa!" Emma then shouted as she kicked her legs against the booster seat she was sitting in. "Appa!"
Wally began to slightly panic as he looked around the cafeteria. Some of the other heroes in the cafeteria with them were lightly chuckling at the scene and the look on the speedster's face. The half-Thanagarian slapped her hands on the tabletop, causing Wally to lightly jump. He was not prepared to deal with a full-blown tantrum. Perhaps he shouldn't have let her skip her nap earlier.
"She wants an apple genius," Wally heard Green Arrow callout to him. Next to him Black Canary was chuckling before lightly backhanding his shoulder.
"I...I knew that," Wally sheepishly replied before running off. Within seconds he returned with an apple in hand with a smirk. He then held the apple up slightly as the little girl next to him reached up for it with a pout. "One apple courtesy of the Flash express."
"That Emma's appa!" The little girl continued to fuss as she got up from the booster seat and climbed onto Wally's lap to better reach for the fruit.
"Hey, hey," Wally lightly frowned as he placed the apple onto the table before grabbing Emma and sitting her back down. "Butt on seat munchkin. Last thing I need is for you to fall and get hurt. Shayera would literally skin me alive."
The toddler didn't care nor understand what the speedster said. She was more determined to get the fruit than anything else. Wally was slightly unnerved when Emma's eyes narrowed into a glare and scowl formed on the little girl's face. He immediately passed the apple over to her, finally appeasing the toddler.
"That is so scary," Wally mumbled under his breath. "You looked exactly like Shayera. I didn't know a toddler could be scary. Shayera definitely taught you that."
"Tanks for appa Uncle Wally," Emma said with her voice being muffled from her full mouth, light bits of apple also being spit out in the process.
Wally was about to sarcastically ask Emma if she had any manners as he watched as she gnawed on the apple. That was until he remembered Shayera's complete lack of etiquette herself. If anything the little girl's level of table manners was most likely mirroring her own mother's.
"So if we gotta go back to Uncle Wally's what'cha wanna do?" Wally asked her. "We can watch a movie. We can play games. Aunt Linda should be home. I'm sure she'll play too if we ask her."
"Pwincess," Emma replied with a full mouth before swallowing. "Emma wanna play with Pwincess."
Wally scratched the back of his head, "Yeah Princess, that's great, considering all the sneezing you did around her yesterday. Probably not a good idea and I should probably tell John and Shayera about that." He then sighed, "Princess is probably going to be sleeping when we get home kiddo. Cats sleep a lot; it's what they do. How about we watch whatever Disney movie you want, sound good? You know how Uncle Wally loves to watch a good movie."
Emma sat silently for a moment and Wally held his breath. The speedster never considered before how volatile a toddler's mood could be. He didn't know how John and Shayera made it seem so easy. The little girl then shrugged and Wally found himself sighing in relief when she replied, "Emma wanna watch Mary Poppins."
"But we watched that last night," Wally retorted but then noticed the small frown forming on the half-Thanagarian's face. He forced on a goofy grin, "But that sounds amazing. I'd love to watch it again with you and I'm sure Aunt Linda will too."
Wally then saw that Emma's attention was immediately off of him as she looked away. He then saw the big smile on her face as she squealed, "Daddy!"
Wally looked over to see John walking into the cafeteria. The speedster let out a relieved sigh before he slightly slumped in his seat and muttered, "Oh thank God."
The speedster could tell that the Green Lantern was exhausted. He doubted that either of them had gotten any sleep since the day before. He then noticed as John lightly rubbed his left palm. He lightly smirked, musing over the fact that Shayera managed enough restraint to not break John's hand this time.
Wally picked Emma up and met John halfway in the cafeteria. He immediately passed off the little girl over to him as he said, "You have no idea how happy I am to see you."
John lightly rolled his eyes with a smirk, "Not all fun and games, is it? You just got a small taste of what Shayera and I deal with every single day."
Wally shook his head, "Definitely not and let me tell you she's a hand full."
"Yeah well," John began as he lightly patted his daughter's back as she tightly hugged him. "At least she's extremely adorable. That's how she gets away with a lot."
"Um so," Wally looked away awkwardly. "How's Shayera doing? Everything is okay right?"
"It was a lot harder on her than last time but she's alright," John replied. "She's really tired and sore but otherwise she's fine."
"Was it a boy or a girl?" The speedster then asked.
John smirked as he motioned with his head towards the door, "Come and see for yourself."
When Wally first entered the medbay room he was immediately greeted by the sight of Shayera coddling a newborn in her arms. The other thing he noticed was the snarky smirk on her face as she spoke. He didn't catch what she had said but saw the female doctor slap the back of her head with an unamused look. He was mildly shocked until he realized he recognized the doctor. It was the same one Shayera was friends with from Midway City. Considering J'onn wasn't available it made sense to the speedster as to why she had been brought up to the Watchtower. Outside of either her or J'onn, Shayera wouldn't have allowed anyone else to even get close enough to touch her.
"That's not even slightly funny Shayera," the woman retorted with a deep frown. "I missed Thanksgiving with Elena and a whole day of work for this. If you weren't holding a baby right now I'd find something to hit you over the head with."
Shayera continued to snicker, "Alright, alright Becky I'll behave and don't worry. I wouldn't have made you do this and make you miss a day of pay. Though you did have to deal with me the entire time. We'll make sure Bruce Wayne reimburses you and makes it worth your while."
"That's a small consolation," Becky just sighed and shook her head. "You're insane. You know that right?"
Shayera smirked, "You've told me hundreds of times."
"I definitely need a heavy drink after dealing with you for this long." Becky then looked over towards the door when she noticed the Flash in her peripheral view, "And there's the motley crew. At least your daughter is more well behaved than you are."
Shayera rolled her eyes in amusement, "Give that a few minutes, you'll see."
Emma began to squirm and twist in John's arms as she reached one hand out to Shayera, "Mommy! Emma want Mommy!"
Shayera slowly shifted herself so that she could sit up, lightly wincing as she did so, "It's okay Emma. Mommy's right here and she's definitely not going anywhere."
John moved closer to the side of the bed. Emma in the meantime had stopped moving and curiously put her finger in her mouth when she saw the bundle in her mother's arms. She then pointed said finger towards her mother, "What that?"
Shayera snorted back a laugh, "That's a baby Emma. Remember what Mommy and Daddy told you? That Mommy was going to have a baby?"
Emma was silent for a moment before she whined and buried her face against John's shoulder, "Don't want!"
Becky sighed, "Here we go, sibling jealousy and it hasn't even been a minute yet. Thank God I only had one."
"Aw come on," Wally tried to reassure the little girl with a goofy grin as he softly placed a hand on her shoulder. "You'll have fun with a baby. You guys will be able to play together and everything. You'll have a blast."
"Emma don't like," she muttered into John's shoulder as she tightened she small arms around his neck in a hug. "Emma's Mommy's baby."
Shayera let out a deep sigh before she looked up at John and motioned down to the newborn in her arms with her head, "I'll handle her."
John lightly nodded as he walked closer to the bed and Emma held onto his neck tighter. "Come on princess go see Mommy."
John began to pry the little girl's arms off of him but Emma was having none of it. "No! Emma the baby!" The toddler whined loudly, clinging her arms back around her father's neck. John placed the little girl onto the bed, pulling her arms away from his body. Shayera then handed the sleeping newborn to John.
The Thanagarian patted the spot on the bed next to her, "Emma, sweetheart, come here." The girl just sniffled as she crossed her arms over her chest and defiantly shook her head.
Becky lightly smirked, "That girl is stubborn for sure. You're going to have your hands full when she's older."
"She's already a hand full," Shayera rolled her eyes. "Come on honey come here."
John lightly smirked as he mused over the fact that the words sweetheart and honey were never apart of Shayera's vocabulary until their daughter was born. Terms of endearment was something the Thanagarian had never bothered with before. The closest thing he ever got from her was whenever she affectionately called him Lantern. Admittedly he had been a bit shocked the first time those words had left her mouth.
Shayera tiredly smiled and reached her hand out to her, "Come on Emma baby, come here."
Reluctantly, Emma crawled over to her mother and climbed on top of her, causing the Thanagarian to flinch in pain. She then rested her head against her shoulder and sniffled once more. "Emma don't want baby," she mumbled against her shoulder.
"Hey," Becky gently put a hand on Emma's back. "Be careful with your mommy there kid. Your mommy went through a lot today and is very tired and very sore."
"It's alright Becky. Don't worry about me," Shayera waved her off before hugging Emma. "What's wrong with Mommy having a baby?"
"Emma not Mommy's baby."
Shayera lightly chuckled before kissing the top of her head, "You're always going to be Mommy's baby. I promise Emma. You want to meet your little brother now?"
Emma slowly let go of her mother and sat next to her. She sniffled once more before nodding, "Okay."
Wally smirked, "So I was right. It was a boy."
"Says the one who was so certain I was having a boy last time," Shayera rolled her eyes.
John lightly smirked as he returned the sleeping newborn back to his wife's arms, "She said it was going to be a boy this time and she was right last time. You shouldn't be so surprised Wally."
Emma cocked her head to the side as she gently poked the baby on the cheek, "Baby squishy."
"How come when I did that when Emma was born you swatted my hand but it's totally okay for her to do that?" Wally asked with an unamused look.
"Because," John began with a light frown. "Emma's a kid. You aren't Wally. She doesn't know any better."
"That's all we need," Becky rolled her eyes. "We don't need that kid waking up. It took fifteen minutes to get him to stop crying and to fall asleep. Kid's definitely got those alien lungs of yours."
"Emma," Shayera softly began before looking down at the baby in her arms. "This is your little brother."
"What's his name," Wally was practically bouncing on the soles of his feet in excitement, earning him an unamused eyeroll from Becky.
"Rex Wallace Stewart," Shayera relied with a small smile.
John then nudged Wally's arm, "You know, after his good old Uncle Wally."
"I am absolutely flattered but why Rex?" Wally slightly tilted his head as he raised an eyebrow under his cowl. "Isn't that a dog's name?"
Both John and Shayera lightly groaned in response, "Wally!"
"What?"
