In Scandinavia, early in the 10th century; there lived Prince Jon Haraldson, the greatest warrior of his era. His tremendous skill, bravery and valour brought him fame throughout the world as the legendary Viking Prince. His adventures were epic, as were the legends that grew around his exploits. On a frozen battlefield; Prince Jon, sole survivor of a bloody war, its purpose lost to time, met a Valkyrie, a messenger from the Norse gods sent to escort the souls of his fallen brothers in arms. To ride with her on her winged Pegasus past the rainbow bridge Bifröst to their reward in the halls of Valhalla. Impossibly, they fell in love and swore their hearts to each other. But Odin, king of the Norse gods, discovered their illicit affair, and enraged, banished Jon from Valhalla. The Viking Prince pleaded with Odin for mercy, begging to be allowed to remain with his love. Odin agreed, saying that if Jon died a warrior's death, he and his love would again be united for all eternity. But Odin was a crafty god and cruel. Before exiling Jon, he gifted him with invulnerability to harm from all elements of the world. The Viking Prince soon realized that he would never die a warrior's death, because no weapon on earth could slay him. He trod boldly across a troubled world in search of adventure and an honourable death, growing ever more distant from humanity. Eventually, weary of the endless fight for justice and despairing in his loneliness, he sailed north, beyond the boundaries of the known world, and passed from the knowledge of men...
"Wow Karen; that is some story... A bleak one but some story indeed..." Jessica muttered as the 7 friends during lunch were seated together at a table in the Metropolis High library and Karen was reading a story from a book of Norse myths. The 5 girls and 1 boy frowned at best to hearing the story Karen read out.
"It is so romantic and tragic at the same time; one of those forbidden love stories like Romeo and Juliet! I can only hope that he managed to find a foe that was able to give him a warrior's death..." Karen then said with a sad smile as Jessica shook her head.
"I don't think that was the case... I don't know if the mythology that had a prophecy about their pantheon ending would have a happy ending for that story... I think that Odin doomed the Viking Prince..." Jessica then said as Diana then nodded.
"Indeed. The story of the Viking Prince had reached Themyscira as well and we are warned that while Odin of the Norse Gods may be more affable and in a sense reasonable than Zeus; we are not to underestimate him if we cross paths with him or put too much trust in him." Diana said as there was scoffing from Kara as she leaned back onto her chair with her hands behind her head.
"Please; let's not pretend that this legend is anything but a legend. A story. A fairy tale. Like there is a rainbow bridge that takes you to an afterlife; get real..." Kara then said as Lincoln then coughed to get their attention.
"Yes Kara our friend who is one of the last survivors of an alien world. Please tell us about this story can only be a myth when one of our friends is a warrior Princess from an island given to them by the Greek Gods and another is a member of an alien police force with a ring that can conjure up anything. Plus another has LEGIT REAL magical powers." Lincoln drawled sarcastically and Kara fumed unable to refute his point as the others snickered.
"Besides wouldn't it be fun if the Norse Gods were real! Like the trickster god who gave birth while turning shapeshifted into a mare horse!" Barbara said excitedly as she put her hands up and they all blinked and stared at her.
"Not as weird as Cronus having eating his children to make sure that they wouldn't grow up and take his throne. Zeus survived by his mother replacing him with a stone in a blanket and grew up to poison his father so that he would throw up his siblings fully grown. Diana said as their eyes widened and their mouths fell wide open.
"Thanks for that and now I have to go and find a trashcan to throw up my lunch into. Plus I had sloppy joes so that will be pleasant..." drawled Kara getting up from her seat and then leaving the library leaving everyone else but Diana have their faces turn green at the story.
Lincoln got home that afternoon after some hours at work; the usual family dinner and he went upstairs to go to his bedroom. He felt a chill as he made it to the bedroom level and stood outside of Lisa's room where it looked like the chill was coming from. Trying to resist the urge to take a closer look and he was screaming at himself to just keep walking to his room.
However his damned curiosity got the better of him and he opened up and found that Lisa had built some sort of portal door opened up to what appeared to be a frozen artic and and some of her robots seemed to be using some sort of heat laser to melt a slab of ice. "I should have just went to my room..." Lincoln sighed as Lisa then entered the room looking quite smug.
"You have found my newest discover that is sure to win me awards elder sibling! I have sent spy drones up north and they discovered what appeared to be an ancient ship of Norse origins that have to be at least hundreds of years old! Imagine my surprise when the readings of my drones also found a living body encased in the ice; I just had to retrieve the body first to examine and see what could have kept the specimen alive! Then I can get to work claiming the ship." Lisa then explained as Lincoln looked to the melted water on the carpet and the ice did look to be thawed out.
Lincoln's eyes widened as he saw it to be a muscular blonde haired man in ancient no sleeved armor and a fur cape and a viking helmet. There was also a sword there and the man was unconscious. "Now with the time that this specimen has spent in ice; there is no doubt that he will be in a coma that he will be unable to awaken from for a long time... Even if there was a chance that he was still capable of..." Lisa declared about to get equipment out but then...
The man suddenly got up and held up his sword nad looked; all lost and confused and shouted old Norse as he then jumped out of the window breaking it. "What... NO! My discovery..." Lisa muttered in shock running out of the room and Lincoln just facepalmed.
"I would say that this is my life now since moving to Metropolis but the Lisa related shenanigans weren't that different back in Royal Woods..." Lincoln sighed getting out his cell phone...
"So your sister found a frozen viking up north and brought it back? Isn't she like still in elementary school or something?" Supergirl asked sceptically as the Super Friends had gathered and were searching all over Metropolis.
"I would say so but all the years that I have known Lincoln and his family... That checks out..." Zatanna then told them as they then spotted the man swinging his sword at vehicles with civilians panicking as they ran away and police officers trying to fire at him as he attacked them with his sword.
"Huh... They seem to be missing their bullets considering that it should be easy to aim at his arm... Or is he bulletproof?" Batgirl commented as Wonder Woman charged at him with her sword to try and disarm him but he fought back with great speed and skill with his own sword.
"Enough of this viking boy..." Supergirl shouted out as she then went and punched him and the viking was sent back to a car. The viking got up with a bloody nose and then wiped his nose but paused as he looked at his hands and then touched his nose.
"This is odd... He is looking like he is surprised that he could bleed..." Peacemaker commented and they then noticed this as well and the viking charged at Supergirl with her flying up in the air and he jumped at her but then Wonder Woman restrained him with an embrace. Zatanna opened up a portal to the Quantum Storage Unfolding Area and then Limelight used a construct of a cage to hold him so she can push him through and then they were all through the portal.
"Let's see if we can communicate... HSILGNE KAEPS!" Zatanna shouted out as Limelight let go of the viking who jumped.
"Who are you weirdly dressed people and... What did you do to me sorceress? Plus with your light magic cage... Where am I..." the viking demanded getting up in their faces as Peacemaker pushed him back.
"We jsut want to ask some questions... Why did you decide to focus on Supergirl here?" Peacemaker asked pointing to Supergirl as the viking readied his sword.
"I found that the flying girl was strong enough to draw blood on me... She could actually kill me... Give me the warrior's death that Odin has tried to deny me..." the viking then said once and soon it dawned on them and their eyes widened up and Bumblebee looked excited.
"...You wouldn't happen to be Prince Jon..." Batgirl asked and the viking then nodded and Bumblebee jumped excitedly as she went up to him.
"Oh my gosh... I love your story and you are a real legendary hero... I have so many questions... What is your love's name and what did you two did on your first date..." Bumblebee asked as Jon was startled and Supergirl was dumbfounded.
"Well... You're real and listen... I love beating up monsters and bad guys but... Outright killing people? Sorry no; that's not what this symbolises... Especially not really old viking legends..." Supergirl then told him as she then pointed to the S shield and Jon jumped at him.
"You must... I have been searching for so long and I had lost hope... But now... I can finally meet my love again... Please... I am so old and tired and I just want my final rest..." Jon said looking and sounding so tired as he was practically pleading and they frowned with Supergirl looking conflicted.
"Prince Jon; I am a warrior myself... I do not go for killing as a first resort but... I can give you your final duel and a warrior's death... I am as strong as my sister..." Wonder Woman spoke stepping forward as Jon looked at her and the others looked uncertain.
"First off; I wouldn't go as far as to say that you're as strong but... Are you sure Wonder Woman?" Supergirl asked as Wonder Woman then nodded and everyone stepped back and looked away.
"I only ask that you don't hold back..." Wonder Woman said readying herself with her sword and Jon grinned as he had his sword ready.
"I won't; if this be my final battle then it shall be one for the Gods..." Jon declared charging forward and with great speed their blades clashed and they fought and duelled. Finally Jon started to get tired and Wonder Woman disarmed him off his sword and then got him into a headlock and then gave a sad sigh.
Jon's neck was snapped and Wonder Woman then carefully placed him on the ground and everyone else nervously opened their eyes. "It is done finally he shall be at peace..." Wonder Woman then said solemnly as they looked awkward.
"Rest now Viking prince..." Bumblebee then said with a hand to her heart.
"So should we give him a wake or a funeral..." Limelight then asked.
All but one of the Super Friends were gathered at the edge of the ocean right next to the bridge and Wonder Woman was holding Jon's body in her arms. A crowd was gathered to take pictures and videos and to see what they were up to and then they looked up to the sky as there was Supergirl carrying an old viking ship above her as she floated down to the water. "Are you alright Supergirl..." Zatanna asked with wide eyes as they were taken aback by the state that their friend and teammate was in.
"I found where the ship was and I hope he appreciates this because I did what you said to do and carry the block above me but it melted on the way there as you can see!" Supergirl ranted as her suit and hair was totally soaking. She then placed the ship onto the water and Wonder Woman then went onboard carefully to place Jon's body.
She got off and Kara then used her heat vision to set it on fire and then push it forward and then went and stood with the other Super Friends. The ship was ablaze and they watched and looked up and saw a rainbow forming in the sky. "It's not raining..." Supergirl muttered as they looked up and then they looked carefully and thought that they spotted a winged horse flying past it with a woman rider and a figure riding with her.
"What... Then that means! YES! THEY GET TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER!" Bumblebee squealed excitedly as Peacemaker then nudged Supergirl in the arm with his elbow looking smug beneath his mask.
"Yeah, I eat my words now... Enjoy that final resting place viking prince..." Supergirl then said as they looked up at the rainbow and smiled.
All the way in Great Lake City; the adult Bobby Santiago and Lori Loud were having a picnic date on top of the Casagrande Market when they noticed the rainbow. "That literally is impossible..." Lori muttered out as Bobby then coughed as he brought out a small box.
"Well it makes this moment romantic enough to finally ask the most important question of my life..." Bobby said opening it up to reveal a ring and Lori squealed excitedly upon seeing it. He didn't even get to ask as Lori embraced him shouting out 'YES!'
Lisa sighed as she returned home having failed to find and retrieve her specimen; she went past the living room failing to notice her parents watching the news on TV where live the Super Friends were holding some sort of viking funeral. She got to her room and looked out the portal door and then found the ship not there anymore. "You can't be serious... That was a find of the millennium!" Lisa ranted as she then shut it down.
"At least I still have this project that is sure to be my best since moving to Metropolis... A project to perfect transmutation... To rework atoms at a sub-atomic level..." Lisa then said as she got onto her computer to put up her files on a recent project that she had started:
Project: FIRESTORM.
