Raichu Arcade is the 4th or 5th most popular arcade in the entire Kanto region. It, like most arcades, had several popular machines from Rillaboom Tower to Charizard pinball and so on. While it may not be as big as the arcades in other towns or have massive prizes like the ones in Saffron City, it is one of the few arcades that is open 24/7, which is why it is one of the more popular locations with night owls, college students and so on.

Which is why Rory and Aoki stand out so much, with them not even reaching the age of 13 and being surrounded by people who are at least 5 years older than them, however the most amount of attention they got in the 2 minutes they walked in was a couple of people looking up at them and then getting back to their game.

"So what game are you interested in playing?" Rory said smiling at Aoki

"Well you won the race so I think you should choose" Aoki chuckled

"Well I am thinking of trying out that new racing game over there" Aoki said as she pointed at a arcade cabinet that has a medium sized crowd gathered around it. Most racing games in the arcade focused on land races, from cars, bikes and the occasional Gogoat. There was one racing game that was imported from Hoenn that was a sea racing game. The arcade game the two were looking at was an air racing game, and they were not using planes, but Pokémon.

Among some of the Pokémon that were available included a Dragonite, a Charizard, the legendary birds, a Latios, a Latias and so on. The game was very basic, 3 players have to race against each other and other AI Pokémon, where they have to use everything from skill, to power ups, to using their Pokémon's 'special ability' that range from the Charizard using it's flamethrower to burn the Pokémon and its flying who is in front of it to gain a speed advantage, to Zapdose using a lighting attack that has a strong chance to paralyse/stall the Pokémon in front of it and so on.

There were 3 people who were using the machine, a high school aged girl who was kind of chubby was using a Togekiss, a college aged boy who was practically a skeleton was using a Skarmory and a giant young man was using a Hydreigon who looked as if he started lifting weights the second he came out of his mother's womb. To say that man was winning would be an understatement. He was steamrolling the other 2, he was almost done with the final lap while the other 2 were not even halfway done the third lap. The boy was practically firing lasers out of his eyes, the girl's face was flooded with water, and the man was laughing.

"PLAYER 3 WINS!!!!" The voice cried, as the screen flashed as it displayed the Dragon doing a dance as the other 2 Pokémon looked on in defeat. The girl practically flew out of her chair as she stormed out of the arcade, the boy was more slow as he continued to glare straight at the man who was extending a hand to shake, but the boy marched straight past the man as he walked away.

The man looked semi disappointed with his opponent's reaction as he scanned the crowd around him his eyes locked on to Rory and Aoki. He made a smile and a laugh like how everyone's favorite uncle/godfather/guardian/etc. would great a child with a giant lollypop, an envelope with 10,000 pokedollars and a magic trick all ready to go after 15 seconds of meeting them.

"Why hello you two! How are you doing!?" The man said as he gestured towards the two kids. "Would you like to challenge me?"

Aoki made a small laugh to herself as she tried to walk away clearly intimidated by the man, but Rory found his legs moving on their own as he walked up to the man "alright…" Rory said trying to make himself more confident.

"Excellent!" The man bellowed as Rory sat in the seat next to him that was in front of the screen showing to select a Pokemon. Rory saw in the corner of his eye Aoki walking up to sit next to him her face was unreadable but Rory saw the faint twitch of a smile. Rory looked up on the screen he had 45 seconds to pick a Pokemon and he flicked through all of the pokemon he could see, as if on auto-pilot he selected a charizard. Rory didn't know why he selected it, while it's true that it is a cool Pokémon, it wasn't in the top 10, but Rory found himself select it with the strange looking controller and he stared at the screen

He made a glimpse at Aokis screen to his left and she had selected a Dragonite and to his right he made a glimpse at the young man who had just selected a Kantonian Salamance (Dragon/Steel).

"Why don't you select the map?" The man said as he gestured at the stage select screen. Rory flicked through the stages seeing regions from Kalos that had a track that went through the streets of Lumios to the barren lands of Orre to the faraway lands of Unova, but something made him select his home region of Kanto.

The screens showed off an oversimplified display of Saffron city as it showed the three flying Pokémon hovering in the clouds as a pidgey waved a checkered flag.

The mehanical voice boomed "3…2…1…GO!"

Rory's hands practically fused with the controller as his eyes were focused on his Pokémon and the track. The race track was very bizarre requiring the racers to fly through hoops and try to avoid certain obstacles that range from flocks of Wingulls to storm clouds. No more than 15 seconds has passed since the race began when he saw the Salamance shot straight past his Charizard as if fired by a cannon. Rory heard the man make a small laugh and all of a sudden he felt his eyes turn red. He wasn't going to let this man win.

Now Rory's hands were threatening to crush the controller in his hand and he tried to maneuver his Pokémon in a way so that he would catch up with the dragon that was moving at the speed of light.

Time was acting strange, one moment he didn't even start the first lap and before Rory knew it he was in the final lap and the dragon was in sight but yet so far ahead.

All of a sudden he flew into a power up box that almost instantly gave him a massive boost, and at the corner of his eye he saw the man seemed to have made a mistake he was slowing down at a certain point, Rory felt a twitch of a small smile as his charizard that resembled a ball of fire flew faster he was catching up with the dragon…

Then all of a sudden the screen was spattered with something it was as if someone had decided to fire a paint ball at his screen. A koffing trap.

Then there was a an ugly sounding sound. The screen cleared up showing that the Charizard had flew straight into Mount Silver.

Rory's brain didn't even have time process it all when the screen blazed to life showing that the man had won, and he had came in 2nd place while Aoki had won 3rd.

Rory turned around to see the man smiling at him offering a hand. "Not bad flying kid, I think you would make for a good flyer one day." He said like how a older brother would say to their younger sibling "Ensign Surge." The man said "I am a master of electric types, but I am fond of flying types as well"

Rory also extend his hand and he felt the bones in his hand turn to dust as they shook.

"That was some flying skills Rory!" Aoki cried as they walked away "I mean you were so close to winning!"

"Was I?" Rory said still a bit dazed

"You were!" Aoki said in a voice that was a mixture between a proud mother and enthusiastic friend. "You were so close to winning!"

"I just fell for Surge's trap" Rory mumbled

"Don't worry about it!" Aoki said softly "Anyway there is always a second chance"

"I know" Rory said with a small flicker of a smile "let's go shall we?"

The two stepped out of the neon lit arcade as they blinked rapidly as if they were trying to force their eyes to pop out.

"So what else would you…" Aoki said but she was interrupted by an ear piercing scream that drowned the air.

The two practically jumped out of their skin as they ran towards the sound of the scream. It was coming from the path that led to route 1.

Rory and Aoki didn't realise that they were running towards the sounds of the screams untill they ran into a large patch of grass where they saw a boy, who was only a year or two older than them running around in circles. The boy was wearing glasses that was using glass made for skyscrapers, was wearing nothing but pure white and had hair that looked as if it was combed using a side rule.

The boy was running around in circles as a small group of Pokémon chased him around in circles.

"Help me!!!" He screamed at the top of his lungs as he looked at the two. "In the breifcase there are two Pokéballs!!! Use them!!"

Rory and Aoki both looked at one another then down at the ground as they saw an open briefcase that had tons of papers splilled out and 3 pokeballs. Aoki and Rory both grabbed a Pokéball and they ran up to the boy to begin their first Pokémon fight.
