As Rory and Aoki made their way down the winding path toward Cerulean City, the conversation between them was light and full of excitement about their next adventure.
"Can you believe we actually got the badge from Gravel?" Rory said, still buzzing with excitement. "I wasn't sure we'd make it through that last part."
"Blaze really pulled through, though," Aoki added with a grin, recalling her Tepig. "I'm so proud of him. And you did great with Silver."
Before Rory could respond, the distant sound of screeching tires and an engine roaring echoed through the quiet late afternoon air. Both of them stopped in their tracks, turning toward the noise. The sound grew louder, and then came a loud metallic crash, like something heavy smashing into the side of a vehicle.
"Do you hear that?" Aoki asked, her brow furrowed.
"Yeah," Rory replied, squinting down the road. "That doesn't sound good."
Before they could react further, a sleek motorcycle came speeding toward them, its headlights cutting through the late afternoon gloom, a large sidecar was attached to it. The rider expertly brought the bike to a halt in front of them, skidding slightly before coming to a smooth stop. The rider wore a large black suit with a giant 'J' on the back, she removed her helmet, revealing long dark hair and a focused expression beneath.
"You two—are you trainers?" she asked, her voice calm but urgent.
Rory and Aoki exchanged a quick glance. "Yeah, we are," Rory replied, his curiosity piqued. "Who are you?"
"I'm Selene," the woman said, flashing a badge on her jacket that bore the symbol of Team Jet. "I'm an executive with Team Jet. I think I heard about you two from Giovanni. You are Rory and Aoki am I correct?"
"Yes, we are." Aoki said nodding, as she raised an eyebrow, intrigued but cautious. "What's going on? Why are you here?"
Selene let out a short breath, her frustration barely masked by her calm exterior. "Team Dark—those hooligans—hijacked a fish transport truck. They're taking it for a joyride, but that thing's too dangerous for them to handle. If they keep going the way they are, they're going to crash, and it's going to cause a lot of damage."
Rory's eyes widened as he tilted his head. "They hijacked a fish truck? Why would they do that?"
"Who knows with them," Selene said, rolling her eyes. "Maybe they're trying to steal its contents, maybe one of their executives like fish, or maybe they're just causing chaos for fun. Either way, we need to stop them before someone gets hurt."
Aoki nodded, her eyes narrowing with determination. "We'll help. What's the plan?"
Selene gave them a quick, appraising look before nodding approvingly. "Good. I could use the extra hands. I'm going to take my bike and get ahead of them, try to cut them off. You two—" she pointed to the sidecar attached to her motorcycle "—can help fight off the grunts. They're not going to go down without a fight."
Rory glanced at the sidecar, his heart pounding in excitement. "We fight while you drive?"
Selene smirked. "Exactly. They won't see it coming. If we work together, we can stop the truck before they crash it."
Aoki grinned, already reaching for Blaze's Pokéball. "Sounds like a plan to me."
"Same here," Rory agreed, feeling the adrenaline kick in. "Let's do this."
Selene quickly strapped her helmet back on, motioning for them to climb into the sidecar. "Hold on tight. We're going in fast."
As they settled into the sidecar, that wasn't comfortable yet wasn't unbearable as the sound of the roaring truck engine grew louder, followed by more screeching tires. Selene revved her bike and sped off down the road, the wind whipping through their hair as they raced toward the danger.
"Get ready!" Selene shouted over the roar of the engine. "Once we're in position, it's up to you two to handle the grunts and stop that truck!"
Rory and Aoki exchanged determined glances, both of them gripping their Pokéballs tightly. The stakes were high, but they were ready to face whatever challenge Team Dark threw their way.
The two didn't have to wait for long as the stolen truck came into view, careening recklessly down the mountain road, Rory's heart pounded in his chest. He could see the Team Dark grunts hanging out of the windows, laughing and jeering as they drove wildly. The back of the truck swung dangerously as it nearly tipped over on every sharp turn. Crates of fish were strewn across the highway, their contents spilling out as the truck barreled through sharp turns, nearly tipping over with every bend.
"This is crazy!" Rory shouted over the roar of the engine, gripping the side of the car for support. "They're going to crash that thing at this rate!"
"Not if we stop them first!" Aoki replied, her eyes narrowing as she spotted the Team Dark grunts hanging out of the truck's windows, jeering and waving.
Selene's voice cut through the noise, calm and focused. "Hold on tight. We're catching up!"
She gunned the engine, the bike roaring louder as it sped up, closing the distance between them and the swerving truck. Rory and Aoki exchanged glances, their adrenaline pumping as they prepared to battle while speeding down the mountain.
"Here they come!" Aoki yelled, pointing to a pair of Team Dark grunts leaning out of the truck's windows, Pokéballs in hand.
One of the grunts tossed a Pokéball into the air, releasing a Kantonian Patrat, its dark fur glistening in the light. The second grunt released a Houndour, its eyes glowing a menacing red as it barked at the approaching motorcycle.
"We've got company!" Rory said, grabbing his own Pokéball. "Silver, let's go!" His Froakie appeared in a flash of light, landing on the edge of the sidecar with perfect balance.
Aoki wasted no time, releasing Blaze. "Blaze, you're up!"
As Selene expertly maneuvered the bike to avoid crates of fish spilling from the back of the truck, the battle erupted on the moving vehicles. The grunts, still leaning out of the truck's windows, pointed toward the motorcycle.
"Patrat, use Dark Pulse!" one of the grunts commanded.
The Kantonian Patrat's eyes gleamed as it launched a wave of dark energy toward the motorcycle, the pulse twisting and warping the air around it.
"Silver, dodge and use Water Pulse back!" Rory ordered.
Silver nimbly leaped to the side, the sidecar shaking slightly as the dark pulse narrowly missed. Silver retaliated with a well-aimed Water Pulse, sending a sphere of water spiraling toward the truck. The Water Pulse struck Patrat directly, knocking it back into the truck's open window.
"Nice one!" Rory shouted, feeling the thrill of the fast-paced battle.
"Hold steady, I'm getting us closer!" Selene yelled, her eyes focused on the road ahead. She swerved the bike to avoid debris and angled them toward the truck's passenger side.
The second grunt barked an order at his Houndour. "Houndour, use Ember!"
Houndour snarled, spitting small fireballs toward Blaze and Silver, but Aoki was quick to react. "Blaze, use Flame Charge!"
Blaze's body ignited with flames, and the small Tepig charged forward, the flames surrounding it easily dispersing Houndour's Ember. Blaze collided with Houndour, sending it tumbling backward into the truck's open bed, yelping in surprise.
The motorcycle caught up to the truck, and Selene pulled alongside it. "Now's your chance!" she called to Rory and Aoki. "Get them off that truck!"
Aoki leaned over the side of the car and called out to Blaze. "Rock Smash, Blaze! Hit the truck's wheels!"
Blaze snorted in determination, and with surprising agility, it leaped from the sidecar to the road, charging toward the truck's rear wheels. Its hooves glowed with power as it slammed into one of the tires, sending a shockwave through the truck.
The truck jerked violently to the side, the driver struggling to regain control. "You little punks!" one of the grunts shouted, furious.
"That's enough!" Selene growled. She released her own Pokémon, a sleek and powerful Honchkrow. The dark bird cawed loudly, its wings spreading wide as it flew toward the truck's roof. "Honchkrow, Night Slash on the truck's roof!"
Honchkrow's wings glowed with dark energy as it sliced through the air, tearing a gash into the top of the truck, causing the roof to buckle. The grunts inside cursed and scrambled for control as the truck continued to swerve.
"Silver, use Quick Attack!" Rory shouted.
Silver launched itself from the sidecar, moving faster than the eye could track. It slammed into the truck's passenger side door, causing it to buckle and jam. The grunt in the passenger seat struggled to open it, but Silver had locked it in place.
"We've almost got them!" Aoki shouted triumphantly as Blaze returned to the side of the bike, looking proud of its damage to the truck.
The truck, wobbling from the damage to its wheels, began to slow down as the grunts lost control. Selene saw her opportunity and gunned the bike one last time, pulling ahead of the truck and cutting it off.
"End of the line, boys!" she called out, bringing the bike to a halt in front of the truck. The grunts slammed on the brakes, the truck screeching to a halt just inches from the back of Selene's bike.
Rory and Aoki leapt from the sidecar, their Pokémon at their side. "It's over!" Rory called out, his eyes blazing with determination.
The Team Dark grunts, seeing that they were outmatched and outmaneuvered, scowled in frustration. "This isn't over!" one of them growled as they began to retreat from the truck, disappearing into the nearby forest.
As the grunts fled, Selene sighed and relaxed her grip on the handlebars. "Well, that was exciting," she said with a wry smile, turning to Rory and Aoki. "You two did great out there. Looks like Team Dark underestimated you."
Aoki smiled, feeling the adrenaline still pumping through her veins. "It was a wild ride, but we did it!"
Rory, still catching his breath, grinned at Selene. "Thanks for the help, Selene. Couldn't have done it without you."
Selene shrugged, her expression softening. "Team Jet's here to protect Kanto. We've all got to do our part."
The truck, now motionless and with the driver's side door hanging open, was filled with crates of fish, most of them still intact despite the wild ride. Rory and Aoki shared a look, feeling a sense of accomplishment as the battle ended.
"Come on," Selene said, starting the bike again. "Let's get this truck back to where it belongs. And then, you two have a gym to challenge, right?"
Rory and Aoki nodded, feeling invigorated by their success. As they climbed back into the sidecar, the sky above them seemed a little brighter, the path to Cerulean City clearer after another victory against Team Dark.
