Chapter 7
"La Push"
Jacobs POV
As much as I wanted to get out into the world to search for Renesmee and our child who now is at least five months old, my body needed an entire extra month to heal even with Elcrie and Harry's gifts combined. Jokingly they called me an apple peel with a heartbeat, though it was a light hearted joke, an attempt to lighten my mood, it terrified me to know just how close to death I truly was. To die without knowing what has happened to my wife, to our child, would be worse than any death I could imagine. I was more thankful for the help of Elcrie and Harry than either could ever comprehend and though I knew Elcrie and Leah were missing each other badly I couldn't bring myself to let them know I would be okay if they decided to leave because they gave me a sense of a security none of the Cullen's, not even Bella, could. Though a part of me knew Uley would beat me for insinuating they would leave before Renesmee and our baby was found anyways. As the days passed on I could hardly sleep without Harry forcing me to do so a habit of his I dodge at every chance though exhaustion served me no better than being well rested did. My dreams were filled with images of me being attacked, with Renesmee calling out my name before my mind faded to black. It was driving me mad and honestly at this point I'm terrified to sleep but even more terrified to continue to wake up in a life where Renesmee does not exist.
"Hey? Are you still with us Jake?" Bella whispered from behind me.
I hadn't heard her sneak up on me but I was too numb from the pain of my thoughts to jump at the sudden sound of her soft voice.
"I guess. Any news from… Anyone?" I asked hopelessly, knowing the answer before I asked.
"Well… About that." Bella began her eyes flickering into the woods hopelessly, she was sadder than usual and it worried me.
"What is it Bella?" I asked, trying to mask my own sadness though my voice cracked a bit.
"Nothing. Nothing from anyone. Carlisle and Edward feel that we've exhausted all of our resources. There's only one more place to go… Edward and Alice are on their way. Alice insisted they go alone though the Denali's are still within the region. We decided to keep them in the dark until we know the outcome." Bella said, referring to the Volturi of course.
A last ditch effort, one that we'd avoided at all cost knowing their price and that we had nothing of higher value to counter in exchange for their assistance. The Volturi had to know they were coming eventually as the news of Renesmee's kidnapping had traveled alongside the Cullen's and Denali's to every corner of the earth by now.
"Alice can't see what they say?"
"She sees potential but it's too split for her to feel comfortable having any of us around so she's sent everyone back here just in case."
"I don't think splitting up is a good idea right now."
"You're exactly right Jacob. It's not." Elcrie's voice said as he entered the woods behind my home, shocking both Bella and I.
"Elcrie, you're back already?" Bella said with a smile.
"You left?" No one told me that of course.
"Late last night. Only to visit Leah and Sue. Oh and I brought back a surprise for the two of you." Elcries lips curled into a smile as our faces turned to confusion for a moment.
The sound of twigs snapping behind Elcrie and a familiar scent that immediately brought me to tears and sent Bella and I squealing like children into the woods forced my wolf out as I ran to him, to Seth. My little brother, the heart of La Push. The heart of the world really. I hadn't seen him in far too long and I didn't realize until now just how badly I needed a friend like him around. Bella and I took Seth down as we held him and his panting self down. Clearly he had been trying to keep up with Elcries speed, something I've regretted doing many times as the old man is far too fast for this world.
"Hey, I missed you guys too but uh… You guys are killing me." Seth said telepathically.
"Shut up. We need this." I responded not letting up.
"Okay."
I let it go on a few moments longer, just until my eyes stopped crying but eventually the feeling of others watching us told me it was time to gather myself. Uley and Harry were surrounding us now, waiting their turn to attack Seth. The second Bella and I backed off, after a few more kisses on Seth's snout from Bella, they lunged at him taking the three of them down the hill as they greeted their beloved Uncle who dramatically screamed as he went straight into character for his niece and nephew. I shifted back and hugged Bella as we watched the three of them play, happy, truly happy for the first time in months.
"Thank you Elcrie. We needed this." I said as I walked over to hug him as well."
"You'll need a lot more than just him. Seth is only the beginning." Elcrie began.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Last night Uley brought me what was left of the clothing that was torn and washed up on the beach when they found you. Carlisle had saved some things in a failed attempt to run a DNA test. It hardly took me an entire whiff to recognize the scent." Elcrie said, his face turning cold.
"What? You know who took Renesmee? Then why the hell are we still standing here! Let's go! Where are they?" I blurted out, as my heart began to race.
"Jacob, breath." Elcrie said, reluctantly I obeyed as Bella came to my side invested in Elcries words, "I recognized it, but only in nature, not a specific. Werewolves. I haven't hunted them in over two and a half centuries, but I'd recognize that stench anywhere, no matter how buried it was."
Bella and I looked at each other confused before we looked back at Elcrie who was clearly quite serious.
"How? Werewolves have been hunted to near extinction. Those who have survived are scattered across the globe." Bella stated.
"Jacob remembers eight figures in his dreams. But I counted at least 20 or more different blood scents. This is a pack and a rather large one at that." Elcrie replied.
"That's not possible-" Bella continued, as bewildered by this information as I was.
"I don't need you to tell me what is and isn't possible Isabella. Jacob, you need to take Seth to La Push and gather as many wolves as are willing to fight. Bella I need you to send out word to your Vampire friends, a pack this big couldn't have gone without notice for long. Some one must know something."
"I'll go now. Thank you Elcrie." Bella said before taking off towards the compound.
I was surprised she didn't fight him further but I could tell Elcrie was getting irritated too.
However I couldn't help but say, "Elcrie are you sure-"
"You can waste time questioning me or you can ride with Seth to La Push and get your family on board." Elcrie replied clearly annoyed. "The bigger the pack, the stronger the Alpha. Seth is a good start, but you'll need more."
"Do you and the kids not want to come with us?" I asked, trying to pivot the conversation.
"Uley needs to go home to help care for Sue, Leah needs a break. Though she would never admit it. That and Harry is maxed out too from healing you. We'll be back before you get here though." Elcrie promised.
"Thank you Elcrie. Thank you."
Elcrie nodded and shifted as he called for his children and said his goodbyes to Seth. A journey to La Push with Seth who most definitely was pissed at me for not updating him about any of this was not going to be a walk in the park. Nor was asking my family once again to fight for Renesmee alongside those we have perceived since the beginning of our time as enemies. Though I believed Elcrie it was hard to wrap my head around the idea that a pack of nearly extinct creatures had committed this act. What reason would a Werewolf have to attack me and Renesmee? How did they know where we were? Why didn't Alice see the danger coming? Most importantly, what did they want with Renesmee? If they had wanted money they would have contacted us by now I'd imaging. Unless they wanted to ensure they hid her well enough so we would not be able to find her unless they wanted us too. I hoped Elcrie was right about a large group of Werewolves being hard to miss. In truth we hadn't considered for a moment Werewolves of all creatures could be involved.
From what I understand these "Children of The Moon" or what was left of them hide far away from Vampires intentionally as they had been hunted down to the hundreds, maybe much less by now, over the last four centuries as the Volturi has outlawed their existence. I wanted to do some research immediately, Carlisle archives most definitely had more information then I had, however, Elcrie had given me an order and instinctively I needed to follow it. Elcrie is the only man I trust to a fault. I don't quite know why, but his words held more weight than any others to everyone who found themselves near him. Perhaps it was this idea that the Cullen's liked to toy with, that Elcrie was an "Apex Predator" or Leah's theory that he was potentially a distant relative of mine. Regardless, he spoke and my body and mind listened without any real hesitation.
Seth met me once he finished his goodbyes and for a moment there was only silence. I looked down, ashamed of my distance from him since the incident. Ashamed for not being able to save her… Seth came to me, rubbing his snout across my face. Without words I knew he felt my pain, my fear.
"Are you ready Jack?"
"As I'll ever be…"
"We're gonna find her. I can feel it, it's gonna happen soon. Elcries sniffer brought us closer than ever. I know it."
"What makes you so sure?"
"I don't know. Call it Wolfie intuition I guess."
"Seth… Don't make me regret taking you with me."
"Well excuse me."
"How much do you know?"
"All of it now I think. Leah kept me home on edge the last few months. Said Uley needed me to help Mom while they helped you heal. The Ness part… That came along two days ago… But for at least the last two months I've known she was far away. I can't explain it, I just knew she was… Gone." A tear fell from his eye as his thoughts turned to the last they saw each other, at Charlie's funeral.
"Well like you said kid. We're gonna find her. Soon. And if Elcrie thinks we'll need to put up a fight then we better go knocking on some REAL big bad wolf's doors, huh?" I replied, trying to lighten the mood. Though I was sad too watching Seth cry, instantly made me want to protect him.
"Hell yeah! Werewolves ain't got nothing on us!" Seth replied his face lighting up as he spoke.
With that we took off on foot towards La Push, not bothering to say goodbye as Bella would understand we were sent away on a task by Elcrie and wouldn't want us to waste any time. I can't lie Elcrie had given me hope, maybe it was just having Seth around and his endless optimism floating around in my head but for the first time in five months, I genuinely felt like we had finally made a breakthrough. Though it was small, it was a start.
Alice's POV
As we traveled to Volterra my mind raced with possibilities. In 38 versions of the future the Volturi killed Edward for stepping out of line, in 47 they asked for us to join them in order to gain their assistance. Only in two did they send us away. Then there were a few in which they simply attempted to persuade us using Chelsea and Didyme, we never fell for them but they were growing prominent as we grew closer. They didn't know we were coming yet and the unannounced arrival in any future was unappreciated. However any formal meeting would give them the upper hand. At least if we just showed up, they'd be ever so slightly stunned and scattered as they tried their best to woo us into joining their Coven.
"Do they know we're coming yet?" Edward asked.
"Almost."
"Good. The sooner we get this over with the better."
"You need to lose that attitude."
"I'm not going to get myself killed." Edward replied as he rolled his eyes.
"We've had this conversation 27 times in my mind already. The numbers faded to 14, but there is still possibility-"
"Alice, seriously? I can read your mind! I know-" Edward began to shout, annoyed.
"I am just trying to help you survive long enough to see Renesmee again! Don't shout at me!"
"I know… I'm-"
"Sorry? Yeah, I know. But I'm sure you already knew that. Do not comment on my attitude. You started it." I snapped back.
We traveled the rest of the way in silence, a good sign. Edward was reading my mind as we drove, trying to keep himself alive as well. We arrived at Volterra in the dead of night and traveled through the town in disguise until we were spotted by the guard who led us to Aro, Caius and Marcus. The overwhelming scent of fresh blood flooded my mind and fogged my mind for a split second. Jane and Alec weren't here, that I saw in every possibility. If Aro touched me he'd know that I knew they wouldn't be here and I wasn't fully certain if he'd see that as a threat or not. I would do my best to avoid his hand at all cost. Though if Edward couldn't keep himself together, it wouldn't matter much. As we entered the room, where they sat upon their throne, Aro's face lit up as his eye meet mine, like a child on Christmas morning.
"What do we have here!? What a wonderful surprise!" Aro said as he stepped down though decided to keep his distance, a good sign.
"We apologize for coming unannounced, though the matter of our visit is quite urgent." I began.
"Is everything alright? Carlisle?" Aro asked, another good sign, Caius scoffed at the name as it left Aro's lips.
"Carlisle is fine. It's my daughter… Renesmee." Edward began, his eyes dropping to the floor as he spoke her name.
"AH! How is the wee girl?" Aro asked with a smile, though he already knew the answer.
"Renesmee has been kidnapped." Edward continued through grated teeth as he tried to remain calm.
The sound of gasp left the three Vampires mouths simultaneously, as if they had rehearsed it.
"I'm afraid we've heard the news. Though we assumed you would have found her by now." Aro said softly, his smile fading.
"No, unfortunately we've turned up no lead. Not a single one in five months…" Edward said, losing himself for a moment, "We came here to ask for your help Aro."
"Hm. Our help? What could we do that you have not already done?" Aro asked, though he again, already knew the answer.
"Yes, don't you Cullen's have powerful friends all around the world and such boy?" Ciaus said as he drank a glass of blood with a smirk on his face. "Why not ask fire hands or the lady with the zappy fingers for help?"
"Our friends have exhausted all of their resources as have we." Edward continued retaining his sheepish composure as he continued the angle of appealing to Aro.
"Oh, so now that everyone has failed you, you've come to us to bed for our resources? Do tell me, what is it that you will do for us if we do this for you?" Caius continued. "The Cullen's have done nothing for us but cause trouble. Now you come crying-"
"Brother, can you not see this boy is in pain? He has lost his only child." Aro said interrupting Caius's spiel.
This interaction alone brought Edwards chances of death down to 1 possibility, Aro was not interested in provoking a fight right now.
"A child that should not exist anymore than the stray you allowed Marcus to pick up." Caius grumbled through his lips.
Ciaus's words bounced around in my head for a moment, this wasn't a conversation I had planned for and I immediately dropped back into my thoughts as I searched for new possibilities while maintaining eye contact to not give myself away.
"Odessa is not a stray, she is my Daughter. The first Princess of Volterra." Marcus stated.
Edward couldn't help but shoot a look at me, one that blew my cover. A mistake he instantly regretted as Aro took interest and stepped closer.
"Yes, it is true. A while ago we found a half-ling of our own, Marcus decided to take up the role of parenting the child and she has turned out to be a fine addition to our family. Perhaps Renesmee could meet her some day, once she is found of course." Aro said sweetly.
"If she is still alive that is." Caius continued smugly, this was it, the last possibility for Edward to lose his life.
"Caius! That is enough!" Aro snapped, saving Edwards life as embarrassment flooded Caius features.
"That's wonderful Aro. I'm sure Renesmee would love that." I said realizing Aro intended to keep the conversation going on as long as possible as Chelsea entered the room.
"If you've taken up the mantle of fatherhood yourself then you can see why we've come now. It's not that we thought of you last, it's simply that we did not want to burden you with our trouble." Edward said to Marcus, who clearly was not as invested in this conversation as Edward was giving him credit for, though I did not know what was going on in his head the way Edward did.
Caius let out a maniacal laugh that made Aro roll his eyes. We were laying it on too thick, they saw right through us now. However to my surprise Marcus's eyes did soften to Edwards words.
"Perhaps when we do find Renesmee it would be best if you, Bella and her came to stay with us. Just so we can keep you all safe. Clearly Carlisle has failed you then again, I know he has only ever done his best by you all." Aro said softly.
"If we don't agree with this." Edward said through his teeth.
"I apologize but I am not going to spend my time nor my families hunting down a child who has already been searched for over vast areas of the world, just to return her to those who lost her in the first place."
"Renesmee is not a chil-" Edward began his voice becoming a low growl.
I could see the guards in the room begin to tense up and I decided it was time to go.
"Thank you Aro, we will consider your offer. We will connect with you by the end of the month if that's alright. We should run this by Isabella as she is Renesmee's mother. I hope you can understand?" I said with wide caring eyes, trying to make myself look as small and cute as possible.
"Of course, and Alice, I'd like you to stay as well as part of this offer. Losing a talent like you isn't worth the risk." Aro added, this I had seen coming.
"I understand." I replied with a false smile.
With that Aro had Chelsea see us out alongside two large guards. As we excited the home of Volturi I couldn't help but smack Edward up the back of the head for almost losing his cool. To my surprise he allowed me to do so as he stood like a statue looking out into the night sky.
"What now?" Edward whispered.
"Now we-" My mind cut off as images of Bella and the Denali sisters appeared in my head. They were here, in Italy. Of course they were, why would anyone listen to someone who can see the future?
I rolled my eyes in anger and Edward and I rushed to our car. They would meet us at our family vacation house in Lucca. I could make out what they were going to say which must mean Fredrick and Tanya are with them and he was clearly using that annoying shield of his on full capacity. The closer we got the further away me and my mind wanted to be, you'd think someone would be smart enough to tell him to tone it down before he draws the wrong kind of attention this close to Volterra. As we arrived only an hour after my vision Bella was waiting outside. I could help but yell out to Fred to shut it down, which he did immediately.
"Give him a break Alice, he's new at this. Plus Tanya's got him scareder than a Monkey hanging over a pit of Gators." Garrett said as he came out to greet us.
"Well he's blocking my vision and making me wanna throw up and leave the country." I snapped back.
"Why are you here?" Edward asked Bella.
The rift between them currently was as awkward for anyone as it ever was. Edward was upset she chose to stay with Jacob and Bella was upset that he wouldn't stick around long enough to see why.
"Elcrie got a lead." Bella began.
"What!?" Edward and I said simultaneously.
"Not a direct one, but he's certain it was a... A large pack of Werewolves who attacked Jacob and took Renesmee. He got the scent off of Jacobs torn up clothes and some other things of Ness's and Jacobs that Carlisle collected from Isle Esme." Bella continued, her eyes slightly victorious.
"Well that's not much…" Edward mumbled.
"Not much! Edward, it's everything! An angle at the least to play on Volturi." I said in retaliation to his dark reaction. "This is great Bella, there's nothing more Caius hates than-"
"Werewolves, I know." Bella said sluggishly as she crossed her arms and turned to reenter the home.
"Bella wait, please." Edward began, "I'm sorry."
"I know that too." Bella said before continuing on into the house.
"So tell me, is the idea to lose them both?" As the words entered my mind, I regretted directing them towards my brother, who immediately took off into the night. However I was as sick of his piss poor attitude as anyone else was.
Now to begin planning the perfect negotiation.
Jacobs POV
Our journey to La Push was filled with a lot more questions then I would have liked as Seth continued to try and strike up a conversation every time we had to stop which was only ever to use the bathroom or to rest for a couple of minutes to catch our breath. In total it only took two days to cross into our home territory though our legs were on fire from how long we ran without stopping. Not to mention we were burning through way more calories than we had consumed before we left. Our bodies needed to refuel. Thankfully I still owned my father's old home and it was stashed full of supplies for emergencies like this. As we reached my home, memories of Renesmee flooded my mind. Of the times we spent together working on vehicles, planning our wedding, and helping my father until his time came. Seth however had a one track mind as he released his wolf and headed for the key to the front door. Before I made it inside I could hear him struggling with a can opener.
"If you don't open, I'm gonna die, you stupid can!" Seth whined.
"Seth." I said as I opened the fridge and revealed that it was fully stocked with fresh meat.
Seth's eyes widened as he dropped the can and ran to the fridge, ripped open a package of meat and began eating a steak completely raw.
"How is this still good? How long has it been since you've been?" Seth said his mouth, covered in blood from the steak.
"Seth, don't talk with your mouth full." I said as I grabbed a bite and a beer myself. "You really thought Esme was gonna let us come home to an empty fridge?" I joked.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Esme knew we would be famished and too exhausted to hunt from our travels and Bella was almost definitely on her way to ensure Edward and Alive didn't jump the gun. Hopefully Alice saw Elcries new discovery before they agreed to anything. I checked my burner phone that was locked in a safe under the sink and there was only one message from Carlisle, confirming what I had already known and giving a small update to the situation in Volterra.
"Jacob,
Esme sent money to Sam and Emily Uley's grandson, Samual, to fill the fridge. She was afraid you'd be too tired to hunt. They know you're coming but we did not tell them why. Bella has made it to Volterra and they have given Alice and Edward till the end of the month to make their decision. Please tell Seth we all miss him dearly and please above all keep each other safe.
-All our love, Carlisle & Esme."
"Eat up Seth, they know where here, we need to make this quick. If they say no we need to be on our way back home by the end of the day." I said as I walked to the bedroom and put on fresh clothes and grabbed an outfit for Seth as well.
"They're not going to say no." Seth said, his mouth full of a second steak now.
"Seth, seriously chew then talk." I replied rolling my eyes as I grabbed a rag and ran it under water before throwing it to Seth who looked like he just hunted for the first time now as blood covered his chest. "They have every right to stay away from this fight, we have no idea what we're getting into."
"Still, they're not going to say no." Seth insisted.
"What makes you so sure?"
"Wolfie intuiti-"
"Seth no." I interrupted, not entertained at all by this new "gift" of his.
Seth had always only seen the good in everyone and everything. It is his Achilles heel as much as it is his superpower. Most of the time it was comforting to know pure goodness still existed in the world other times it was as annoying as it came. Partially because I wished I could still have his innocence and partially because I wished I could talk some sense into him, though I knew taking away his optimism would be a battle I would never win.
We ate half the meat in the fridge in just a couple hours and napped hard for longer than I intended. We had gotten to La Push just before Sunrise and it was now just past 12pm. It was time to get a move on it. I shook Seth first gently to try and wake him then by pushing him off the couch. When that still didn't work I ran water in a bucket and the sound alone woke him up in a hurry.
"Calm down! I'm awake! Gees…" Seth said, pulling his shirt on half asleep.
"Good, we slept too long. We need to leave now." I replied as I grabbed the keys to my truck.
Bear Jr, Sam's grandson, was now the head of the tribe and we would need to speak to him and the council about taking a single willing shape shifter with us back to Denali. A pit grew in my stomach as we got closer. We had only just left this life behind for what I thought was for good but now here I was again, asking them to fight my battles, only this time I had no idea what we were truly up against.
"We can handle anything." Seth's voice whispered into my head, interrupting my thoughts.
"Stay out of my head kid." I ordered.
"I am 66 years old." Seth reminded me.
Something I always forgot since he had remained the same for the last 46 years as he decided to travel the world in search of an imprintee instead of settling. Not to mention he still very much so acted like the same 13 year old kid who shape shifted all those years ago.
"Well, start acting it and I won't keep forgetting it." I replied.
"Make me." Seth replied.
I glared at him slowing the car for a moment, he lost it as he started to laugh hard. Seth Clearwater folks, forever 13. As we rounded the corner to Bear Jr's house I realized I hadn't really thought of what to say.
"Don't worry I got this." Seth said as he hopped out of the truck before I had even put it in park.
"Seth no!" I said as I rushed out of the car.
He was already inside of their house by the time I got out of the car, he didn't even knock. As I entered the house I realized it was flooded with relatives and descendants of mine and Sam's former wolf packs. My eyes widened as I met their faces one by one. They were curious and I immediately felt sick to my stomach knowing what I was about to have to tell them. Seth was standing in the center of the room, riddles with stage fright.
"Wow. I didn't expect to see so many of you." Seth said his face turning to red as he backed up behind me, "Looks like you're on Jake. Floors all yours."
I glared at him again. As I pulled my thoughts together. "If I may Bear?"
"Tell us what you're here for Jacob. We've been waiting since the Cullen's called Samuel and asked us to prepare for your arrival." Bear replied as he took a seat in front of me.
"Right, thank you Sam." I said quickly in his direction. "We ran all night long. We really appreciate you filling the fridge for us."
"Of course." Samuel replied with a smile.
"It's Renesmee… She's gone…" I let out slowly after a few awkward moments passed.
Tears began to flow as gasp took over the sea of family. I realized how I had worded it probably didn't give off the right message and I quickly found my voice to continue.
"Not dead, sorry. She was kidnapped. About five months ago now. Elcrie sent me here to gather a group of willing shape shifters, to help retrieve her."
"God, Jacob. I am so sorry. I imaging if the Cullen's can't find her it must be real bad." Bear carefully added.
"Werewolves, real werewolves. We've only just found out from Elcrie who found their scent on some things Carlisle collected I guess." Elcrie's name immediately peaked Bears interest as I continued, "But before any one agrees to anything, I need you to see this," I said as I began to undress, revealing the scars that covered my body from nearly head to toe.
Bear stood up, shocked but also angry perhaps? The crowd gasped as they looked over my body.
"They did that to you?" Bear said, his body shaking slightly.
"Yes." I said ashamed, "Then they took her… and in all honesty we still have no idea where she is but Elcrie insisted I need my pack to help me find her. I know we left this life behind years ago, I know you all have families and things you need to take care of-"
"That's enough Jacob. You lead the way. We will follow." Bear said as he placed an arm on my shoulder.
The crowd followed his lead and I couldn't help but break out into tears as they all took turns hugging me as we connected as a pack. 44 shape shifters in one room, united as one. Whatever we were running into blind or not, they were in for something these Werewolves certainly could not handle.
Slowly everyone broke off to say their goodbyes and pack small bags for our departure that night. I couldn't believe they had all agreed to go with so little information. Most had only ever shape shifted a few times in their lives and the next two weeks would unfortunately have to be a crash course in maintaining control.
"Don't worry about the newbies. They'll get it together in time. Traveling on four feet for two days straight is a good start. Did you tell the Cullen's how many of us are coming?" Bear said telepathically as he sat down next to me.
"No, a little good surprise is what we all need right now."
"Will Elcrie be there?"
"Yea, he said he'll be there when we return."
"Uley too?" Bear said trying to sound inconspicuous, though I knew all too well the angle he was working and it made me chuckle.
"Bear she is so out of your league it's not even funny."
"Oh come on."
Overall it took four days to journey back to Denali as the newbies had a lot more difficulty maintaining their wolves then we anticipated, though it was chaotic, I already felt better having them with me. Stronger even. I'd never headed a pack this large nor do I think any Alpha ever has before me. Seth was right. We are getting closer, I can feel it.
