Chapter 15
The Proposal
Bella
After a long to and fro, Edward had finally gone hunting again.
It was about time.
His eyes were already black, and sometimes I didn't like his look at all.
I was not afraid of him, but safe was safe, even more so because in three days the 'Red Sea' was approaching, and then the captain could not set sail.
During this time it was especially hard for him.
Meanwhile, I made myself comfortable on the couch and watched '27 Dresses'.
It's funny that there were women who would give anything for a marriage proposal. I was different. Edward and I had a deal: We won't try sex until I become his wife. It was with a heavy heart that I agreed to it at that time, but I wanted an unforgettable romantic proposal, and after long agony, my angel had also given it to me.
Flashback - The marriage proposal
One Friday after school, Edward surprised me with two plane tickets to Paris, a short vacation over the weekend.
Oh boy, I thought, so this weekend was it. I will get a marriage proposal from my angel.
I had to dress up for the evening, and Edward had given me a wonderful blue evening gown for the occasion.
I was really nervous and didn't know why at all, after all I could guess how tonight would end. I would wear his mother's ring on my finger.
A limousine picked us up from the hotel and took us to a beautiful romantic restaurant. All tables were covered with a red tablecloth and a candle was on it. We were surrounded by lots of couples in love.
Edward took over the selection of the meal. Of course for two people, to keep up appearances. He ordered an excellent red wine to go with it. We looked into each other's eyes the whole time in love, and I was getting more and more nervous. After the main course, we waited for dessert, and Edward took my hand in his. Then he said that he loved me more than anything and he didn't want to live without me anymore. My breath stopped.
I really thought that now the proposal would come ...
But nothing had come except our dessert. Somehow disappointed, I ate the delicious 'What-I-know-what-that-was', but honestly had to say it was very tasty.
After dinner we went for a walk in the moonlight. It was fully romantic. We walked hand in hand. Nothing happened there either.
Thinking about that evening now, I had to really smile.
This evening would really have been perfect for a proposal. It was an unforgettably beautiful and especially romantic evening. We did a lot more excursions and some shopping, so Alice was happy with us. A beautiful weekend in love in Paris, but I was still not engaged.
After almost a week, I no longer thought about the marriage proposal.
Why should you? I didn't want to get married. I was of the opinion that we could be together without a marriage certificate for the time being.
But my angel was of a different opinion.
Thus I remembered again: At some point, the proposal would come after all. Only when? And why did he torture me like this?
It was Friday after school again. Edward surprised me with two plane tickets, this time to New York.
Again I nervously pondered: Would this be 'the weekend'.
But after Alice's reaction, I knew: No.
She didn't seem nervous, so she wasn't hiding anything from me either.
But if Edward hadn't planned it properly yet, then she didn't have a vision of it either.
I was starting to be a nervous wreck.
That's when I didn't really want a proposal, because I still thought it would work without a wedding, and yet I was shellacking myself for whenever he finally proposed. Kind of sick, I thought.
I had resolved to enjoy this weekend and the togetherness with Edward. With the many vampires in the house, you were never alone, and especially never undisturbed.
Alice had a special knack for always interrupting at the wrong or most inopportune moment.
My resolution: Once I was a vampire, revenge would follow!
Again, we went out for a very romantic dinner, and I had gotten an incredibly beautiful light blue knee-length dress to go with it.
Alice had left out the matching lingerie. She had meant that I would wear the dress again and then I could seduce Edward with everything.
Since when did Alice allow an item of clothing to be worn twice? She had probably given up arguing against it with me.
After the harmonious meal, again with a declaration of love for eternity but no proposal, we went for a walk. We stopped in front of a helicopter.
That couldn't be serious, that I was getting into this … thing.
But my angel managed everything. He took me by the hand and said that nothing would happen to me, and I would not regret it.
Okay, I thought. Now the time had come - the proposal!
The helicopter excursion was a scenic flight over New York and aside from the fact that I was sick to my stomach, this flight was beautiful.
The rest of the weekend followed a few more trips, and these days were also the absolute hammer.
Would have been perfect again for a romantic proposal. But no, I still didn't have a ring on my finger.
Edward was enjoying my nervousness by now, and I was beginning to regret not simply accepting the ring then.
But I wanted it that way, and my angel apparently loved to torture me.
But the whole thing had one advantage. I had two wonderful weekends with my dream man in Paris and New York.
Just still not this ring.
Slowly but surely, I forgot all about it and went back to everyday life.
Edward, and especially Alice, were back to normal.
So I knew this weekend was a wedding free weekend.
This one I wanted to spend once again at home in my room and cook for Charlie in the evening.
That night Edward was supposed to come back to me, before that he was going to go hunting with Emmett.
Late that afternoon, Alice called me upset and told me we had to substitute for Carlisle and Esmé at some event from the hospital. Carlisle had completely forgotten, and the two of them were hunting with Emmett and Edward.
Of course, I did not think that there might be more behind it. Since Charlie had stood me up, and I did not want to spend the evening alone, I agreed.
Arriving at Alice, I was once again put into a new beautiful long light blue dress.
For whatever reason, I was allowed to wear flat comfortable shoes. I was very grateful to Alice for that, but I didn't understand why she allowed me to do that.
That was so unlike her.
My hair and makeup, of course, she took over.
One thing about Alice: she knew how to make a woman pretty. I couldn't believe that the woman in the mirror was me.
What happened next, I can't say, because it suddenly went black before my eyes.
At some point I woke up and Alice was smiling at me.
I could not believe that she had knocked me out. Why and wherefore?
Before I could ask, she just said, "You'll have to walk the rest of the way on your own, and I hope you have fun. "
Then she was already gone.
Still a bit dazed, I noticed that I was standing in the forest just before the clearing.
Slowly I made my way toward the clearing, toward the light that shimmered there.
What I saw then took my breath away.
My heart started racing when I saw Edward in a black suit with a tie to match my dress, in the middle of the clearing. This was completely decorated with candles and torches, and quite a few rose petals lay on the lawn.
I slowly walked towards my angel and was really grateful to Alice for the flat shoes.
Now I also knew why this exception!
When I stood in front of Edward, the first thing he said was, "WOW, you look stunning."
I couldn't say anything at all.
I was speechless. I was floating in seventh heaven.
Then my angel knelt down in front of me and took my left hand in his.
"Bella, you know I'm the luckiest vampire alive. You made me what I am now. I am very grateful to you for that. I can't imagine my existence without you, and I don't want to. I love you more than my life. I still can't believe that you love me just as much and even give me your eternity. So that our love is sealed forever, I ask you here and now. Will you marry me and become my wife for eternity?"
Before I could even say yes, Edward had already put his mother's ring on my ring finger.
Still speechless, I pulled him up to me and kissed him passionately. As hoped, he returned the kiss and granted me entry with my tongue.
This moment was indescribable.
All too quickly, he broke away from me, looked me in the eye, and with a wry smile asked, "Is that a yes?"
I loved that smile and that vampire.
Of course I said yes, and we continued kissing very passionately.
