Chapter 6

Rey sat in the quiet meditation chamber of the Jedi Temple, her mind focused on the Force bond she shared with Ben. The air was thick with tension as she closed her eyes, reaching out across the vast distance that separated them. She had sensed his pain before, but this time, she was determined to connect more deeply, to offer him solace and understanding.

As Rey concentrated, she felt the familiar pull of Ben's presence. Slowly, his image began to materialize in her mind's eye. He appeared as if through a fog, his face etched with weariness but softened by relief upon sensing her. "Ben," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.

"Rey," he replied, his voice carrying the weight of his long-suffered anguish. "I've missed you."

"I've missed you too," Rey said, fighting back tears. "I'm here. I'm trying to understand what's wrong and how I can help."

Soon, the connection revealed to Rey both Ben and his surroundings. Ben remained on the glass platform, but this time, Rey saw Master Luke approaching him. Ben, visibly startled, leapt up in surprise at Luke's sudden appearance.

"Ben," Rey cried out as their Force connection faded. Sitting on the platform, she felt numb and exhausted from her tears. All she could do was sit there, struggling to come to terms with what was happening.

Soon, Rey was drawn away from her thoughts by two figures approaching her. She made an effort to steady herself despite the turmoil within.

Finding Rose and BB-8 standing. Rose's expression was a blend of relief and hesitation, while BB-8 chirped softly beside her.

"Rose! BB-8!" Rey greeted warmly, though she could feel the strain of the conversation with Ben still lingering.

"Hi, Rey," Rose said, stepping into the room. "I was in the area and thought I'd drop by."

Finn, who had been working on training exercises with Sky, joined them, his demeanor shifting as he saw Rose. There was a moment of awkward silence as Finn and Rose exchanged glances.

Rose's eyes softened as she looked at Finn, who finally took a deep breath and addressed Rey. "There's something I need to tell you, Rey."

Rey looked at Finn, sensing the gravity in his tone. "What is it?"

Finn's gaze met Rose's before he continued. "Rose and I... we're engaged. We've been planning this for a while, but with everything that's been going on, I didn't know how or when to tell you."

Rey's eyes widened in surprise, her emotions a mix of shock and happiness. "Engaged? Finn, that's... that's wonderful news!"

Rose stepped forward, her smile growing as she spoke. "We wanted to share it with you in person. I know it's a lot to process, but we wanted you to know."

Rey took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions. "I'm happy for both of you. Congratulations."

BB-8 beeped enthusiastically, adding to the warmth of the moment.

Later, as the evening sun cast a warm glow over the temple, Rey and Finn walked outside, leaving Rose and BB-8 to settle in.

"You know," Rey said, breaking the silence, "it's good to see you happy, Finn. We need that right now."

Finn nodded, his expression serious but appreciative. "Thank you, Rey. And thank you for understanding. I know it's been a lot."

Although Rey was genuinely happy for Finn and Rose, her own heartache deepened. All she longed for was a life with Ben. She excused herself and retreated to her quarters, a spacious stone building with a curved roof. The layout included an entrance, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a small hallway leading to Rey's bedroom. She headed to her room, eager to escape the overwhelming emotions surrounding her.

Rey drew the curtains shut and locked her bedroom door. She undressed and slipped into bed, searching for some semblance of peace. Despite her intense desire to cry, no tears came. Instead, she lay on her side, speaking out loud, hoping that the Force or Ben might hear her heartfelt pleas.

"Ben," Rey whispered urgently, "please, I need to know how to help you."

She thought of her new students, and Sky in particular reminded her of Ben. Tall and slightly broader, with strong facial features and piercing blue eyes, Sky's appearance evoked memories of what Rey had lost. It wasn't attraction but admiration; he represented a life she had hoped for, one she could no longer fully embrace without Ben.

As she wept over Finn's engagement to Rose, Rey longed for the kind of happiness she once envisioned with Ben. Rey eventually drifted off to sleep her dream drifted to a serene planet with lush green hills and a lake, where she saw Ben standing beneath a grand tree. The sight of him brought a flicker of hope.

Ben turned around with a warm, inviting smile. He was dressed in dark gray Jedi robes with subtle blue accents, looking exactly as she had always dreamed. Rey, in an elegant off-white gown with floral embroidery and a delicate veil, approached him. The moment felt like a dream, where she could finally be with him.

She reached out and took his hand, overwhelmed by emotion. As she kissed him passionately, she whispered, "I would have loved to marry you... to have a child together." Her voice trembled with sadness, revealing how much she longed for the life they could have shared.

Rey wept as Ben held her, and when she awoke, she was startled to see that it was already 10:00 PM—she had slept for four hours. She had no desire to eat or speak with Rose and Finn. All she wanted was to feel closer to Ben and to understand how she could help him.

As the dawn's first light filtered through the thick stone walls of the Jedi Temple, Rey lay in her quarters, wrestling with a profound sense of loss and frustration. The dreams of Ben had left her heart heavy, her mind clouded. Despite her best efforts to reconnect with him through the Force, she had been met with only fleeting glimpses of his distress.

Meanwhile, within the mysterious realm of the World Between Worlds, Ben Solo remained trapped on the ethereal glass platform, his spirit frayed and weary. The energy that pulsed around him was both mesmerizing and suffocating. As he struggled against the overwhelming waves of his past mistakes, a familiar presence emerged—Luke Skywalker.

Luke appeared beside Ben, his presence both comforting and commanding. "Ben," he said softly, placing a hand on Ben's shoulder. "You need to keep fighting. You have a purpose, a chance to restore balance."

Ben, lost in the void, looked up at Luke with a mixture of confusion and desperation. "How can I fight when all I feel is this overwhelming pain? How can I help Rey when I can't even help myself?"

Luke's gaze was firm yet compassionate. "You must want to keep fighting, Ben. You need to find it within yourself the strength to overcome this torment. Your journey isn't over yet. You have to return to Rey; she needs you to help her restore balance."

Ben's eyes, filled with anguish, searched Luke's face for clarity. "But how? I only remember Rey and the desire to bring her back. I'm not sure about anything else."

Luke nodded, understanding Ben's confusion. "That's good—you remember Rey. It means you still have hope, and that hope can guide you. You must use that hope to aid in the rebuilding of the Jedi Order. Your presence is crucial."

The surroundings shifted, and Luke's voice grew more resolute. "The darkness you sense, the disturbance in the Force—it's more severe than you know. The Force itself is aware of the imbalance and recognizes that your return is necessary."

Ben, struggling against the weight of his past, found a flicker of resolve. "I understand. I will fight to return to Rey, to help her."

Luke smiled faintly, a mixture of relief and encouragement in his eyes. "Remember, Ben, the path to redemption isn't easy, but it is yours to walk. Embrace the fight within you and return to the light."

As Luke's figure began to fade, the energy around Ben intensified, pulling him toward the edge of the platform. With newfound determination, Ben prepared himself for the journey ahead, knowing that his fight was not just for his own redemption but for the future of the Jedi and the galaxy itself.

Back at the temple, Rey's sense of despair was palpable. The darkness she felt was an ominous sign, hinting at a growing threat. Unbeknownst to her, this darkness was more insidious than she had anticipated, and the Force had whispered of Ben's importance in the coming struggle. As Rey prepared for another day of training and searching for answers, the weight of the unseen danger loomed, making her task all the more crucial.

The stage was set for Ben's return and Rey's quest to confront the darkness that threatened the galaxy.
