"Why would you do this?" I shouted at Masen once we were alone in his car. "Why? Why would you propose to me out of the blue?"
"Why are you so angry?" He asked calmly.
"Shouldn't I be?" I asked with disbelief.
"Bella..." He sighed, "I just feel we're wasting our time. As you also admitted, we're not going to find anyone else."
I had no idea what was wrong with him.
Why was he doing this?
"I never said I'm not going to find anyone!" I said, "You asked if I was already seeing someone, and I said no."
"Yeah.. But nobody could understand us better than both of us." He said.
"Yes, we understand each other as friends should, but there should be more than that when it comes to spending life together," I said.
"But we can work on our differences," he said, "I'm willing to do everything that's required."
I sighed.
He wasn't getting it, was he?
"Because that's not going to be enough," I snapped, "I've feelings for someone else..."
I honestly had no idea how and since when my feelings for Edward became so intense. I didn't know the answer to that. The one thing that I knew was, it hurt!
"So why didn't you tell me when I asked you the other day if you had anyone else in your life?" He asked.
"Because... Because he doesn't have any feelings for me." I said.
Yes, it fucking hurt to admit it out loud!
"And I thought it might be better to have this discussion in person! I didn't want to hurt your feelings on the phone." I said.
"Oh!" He said and took some time to process it.
"Does it really matter if that person doesn't even have feelings for you?" He asked, "Should we even let that come between us? It honestly doesn't matter to me. I'm willing to wait for you as long as you want me to."
"Masen..." I sighed, "I can't do this! Please... I'm sorry!"
He sighed.
"Okay... I'll do it at Grandpa's birthday party tomorrow," he said, "It's the same set of guests. I'll make sure I correct my mistakes."
I sighed, "That should be okay, I guess."
I was still in disbelief about the mess he had created!
What was he thinking?
"Sorry, I shouldn't have rushed," he said, "If I had waited, we might have made this work."
"No, not even then... I'm sorry I should have clarified this earlier. You're my best friend, Masen," I sighed, "But you're not someone I think I see as my life partner. I'm really sorry! But believe me, this is for the best! I could never be a good life partner to you. Believe me, you deserve someone much better!"
"What if I say I'm willing to wait?" He smiled.
"No," I said, "Not even then."
He sighed and then nodded his head.
"Thank you!" I said as I removed the ring and gave it back to him.
