A Few Days After RWBY and Co Left For Paldea

A Warp Star landed on the ground near the stairs of the Hakurei Shrine. Enid hopped off of it together with the Foxtrot Twins and Logue.

BGM: Drunk As I Like (Touhou 10.5: Scarlet Weather Rhapsody)

"You had a patient that was transferred all the way here?" Magnolia asked.

"Yes. That is because the medicine my patient needed was something that Ms. Tsumiki did not have, so she referred to Ms. Yagokoro in Gensokyo."

"Oh nice."

"Wait, aren't there, like… man eating Youkai here?" Nick asked.

"Honestly, I've heard that the Youkai get along very well with the Faunus that live here. You two should be fine… however, I would keep an eye on Logue, just in case."

"Alright." Magnolia nodded.

"Now, you three be good, okay? More than likely I will not be super long at Eientei. Why don't you three go hang around the Misty Lake? I would suggest the Hakurei Shrine but I don't want to impose on Reimu."

"Okay. See ya later, mom!" Magnolia nodded again as the three took off while Enid walked off.

"You've been here before?" Logue asked.

"After the New World and mom hearing what happened, she wanted to check out Dreamland and Gensokyo and took us with her." Nick explained. "To our surprise, Gensokyo is one of her favorite places to visit due to how calming it is compared to our world."

"Hmmm, I suppose that makes sense."

"The Misty Lake is a pretty lake to look at. Come on!" Magnolia walked off with Nick and Logue following her.

Meanwhile…

"Wah…!" Ford yelped as he walked through a portal while Patchouli and Koakuma stepped through with no issue. "This is the Netherworld?"

"Indeed." Patchouli nodded.

Ford picked himself up, looking around in awe. "Incredible. I didn't think this place would be so… beautiful."

Patchouli chuckled. "It is."

Ford looked around, seeing the many ghosts and spirits float around without a care in the world as they drifted across white flowers as purple flames lit up the path. The trio walked through a massive garden as Ford looked on at a massive cherry blossom tree. His eyes were fixated on it as he couldn't help but pulled out the journal and wanting to sketch it out.

"I keep forgetting how beautiful it is." Koakuma said.

"It's simply breathtaking." Patchouli nodded.

"This is an unusual sight." A voice said as the trio looked over to see Youmu approaching. "Normally we're visited by either Reimu, Marisa or even Yukari… but not any of you." She then turned to Ford. "Oh, you must be that guy's brother, right?"

"Yes. And, you're the girl who's afraid of ghosts."

Youmu blushed. "N-no… Not really… who told you that?"

A few days ago…

"Behold! The sleeping tree!" Stan exclaimed from within the Mystery Zone. "Is it an actual tree or is it actually haunted?"

"Oh please, it's just a dead tree with moss on it." Youmu said as she got a closer look at it. "It's not haunt-"

"TREEVAAANAAAAAANT!" The "sleeping tree" cried.

"KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Youmu shrieked as she was pale as a ghost while the other audience members clapped and took pictures of the Trevanent.

Back in the present…

"Where did he get the Trevenant?" The two SDM ladies wondered.

"Trevanent is a Ghost/Grass type Pokemon, and I've also heard that you are not particularly fond of Boos and Peepas."

"Mmmph…" Youmu groaned.

Ford patted Youmu on the shoulder. "Relax. We all have our fears. There's nothing to be ashamed of with being scared of ghosts."

"But I'm half Phantom, I shouldn't be afraid of 'em… and yet… ugh, it's horribly ironic." She mumbled as Myon came out and nuzzled against her.

"Half Phantom?" Ford wondered. "I see, so are you half human and half phantom?"

"Indeed." Youmu nodded as she petted Myon. "This is my phantom half." She said as Myon transformed into another Youmu.

"Incredible!" Ford said as Myon turned back to her whispy self. "Definitely a cute little ghost companion." He smiled, gently patting Myon on the head that caused her to blush… while there was also ectoplasm on his hand.

"Ah… I should've warned you about that."

"No no, it's fine." Ford said. "Is Yuyuko around? I've heard a few stories about her."

"Oh, Lady Yuyuko? I'll show you the way." Youmu said as she walked off with the three accompanying her. "By the way, your journals are really fascinating."

"Thank you."

Back with the twins and Logue…

"So pretty!" Logue's eyes sparkled as she looked at the various fairies flying around with some Faunus swimming around and enjoying themselves.

"Yeah, it's very pretty!" Magnolia said as she sat down and dipped her toes into the water together with Nick and Logue.

"Hey you!"

"Cirno, noooo!"

"Hmm?" Magnolia's fox ears twitched as she saw Cirno and a dismayed Daiyousei flying toward them with another Youkai, the latter two trying to pull her away from doing something dumb.

BGM: Beloved Tomboyish Girl (Touhou 12.3: Unthinkable Natural Law)

"You think you outsiders can mosey on into my lake?! I saw that Warp Star flying here and let me tell you-"

A Lionfish Faunus swam by.

"Blah blah blah blah blah blah-"

"Don't mind her, she's just doing this for theatrics. She's not worth much." He said as he swam by.

"-And another thing-"

"Uh, could you repeat that? All I heard was "blah blah blah"." Magnolia said.

A cross vein appeared on Cirno's forehead. "A wise ass, eh?! We'll see how funny you are after this! PERFECT FREEEEEZE!"

The three were caught in a blizzard.

"Oh hey, definitely beats the summer heat." Nick said.

"Man, you're foggin' up my glasses." Magnolia frowned.

"Ahhhh, definitely reminds me of Atlas." Logue hummed.

"I see you are wishing to fight us?" Magnolia said, wiping her glasses.

"You are correct!" Cirno smirked, pointing at Magnolia. "You, in particular, interest me! So put up your dukes!"

"Okay. Your funeral." She pulled out her Splatizashi Wiper, and with her Semblance activated, it started burning before catching on fire.

"Ohoho~! Fire?" Cirno smirked as she conjured up an ice sword. "I like those odds~!"

"Oooh, I can't watch…!" Daiyousei whimpered as she covered her eyes. "Rumia, just tell me when it's over…"

"Sure thing!" Rumia nodded.

"HAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Cirno lunged toward Magnolia and swiped at her, but the latter parried and immediately countered with a fiery slash. "Graaaah!" She cried as she fell into the lake in defeat.

"It's over." Rumia said.

"Oh, it is? Oh thank heavens!" Daiyousei sighed in relief as they flew over to them while Cirno climbed out of the water, shaking it off. "She didn't hurt you too bad, I hope?"

"Aside from fogging up my glasses, I'm okay." Magnolia reassured.

"Oh thank goodness." Daiyousei nodded. "I'm Daiyousei, though my friends call me Dai…"

"I'm Rumia, I don't really live at the Misty Lake, but I do sometimes hang out with these guys!" Rumia said.

"And I'm… Cirno…" Cirno shook it off as she approached them. "The strongest fairy in Gensokyo!"

"Strongest?" Magnolia raised an eyebrow. "I didn't see it."

"Ha! That's because you countered me! If it wasn't for your sheer tenacity and-"

Tuuuuug!

"Ow ow ow ow ow! Watch the ear! Watch the ear!" Cirno yelped.

"That was for fogging up my glasses."

"But do you have to pull so tight?!"

"I'm barely tuggin', "almighty strong one"."

"Pssst. She does that with me all the time too." Nick whispered as Magnolia let go of her.

"Owww…" Cirno frowned. "So, what're your names?"

"Magnolia Foxtrot, and this is my twin bro, Nick."

"Yo."

"I'm Logue Lang, nice to meet ya~!"

Back with Ford and Co…

BGM: Swing a Fish To Drive Away Flies (Touhou 10.5: Scarlet Weather Rhapsody)

"My my, that's quite the tale~" Yuyuko smiled, munching on some food.

"Yes, it… is…" Ford said, a little flabbergasted on how much Yuyuko was eating. He heard she was a big eater, but not in the style of Kirby.

"Taken aback by Lady Yuyuko's eating habits? I don't blame you. She's… a bottomless pit." Youmu said.

"I can see that." Ford nodded. "So, Miss Saigyouji, what is the story behind the massive Cherry Blossom Tree?"

"Oh, that? It's quite simple. You see… it was during the wintertime where I decided to bring spring into the Netherworld to make the cherry blossom tree shine brightly. Of course, by doing so, winter tarried a bit longer in Gensokyo and Reimu was being lazy due to her not liking being cold. Her best friend had to step in and do it for her."

"I still feel the sting from that Master Spark to the face…" Youmu groaned.

"I give Marisa some trouble and that's when Reimu finally showed up, though I've heard a rumor that it was Sakuya who gave her the push. And well, the rest is history, I get defeated, spring properly shows up in Gensokyo, life is pretty good."

"And you're not torn up about it?"

"Of course not. Reimu made me show the error of my ways~ While I am a bit sad, it's nothing to worry about." Yuyuko giggled. "By the way, I've read your books. I never expected them to be page turners~"

"Gripping, were they?"

"Indeed. And based on what you've written on your fourth journal entry, I see you've already detailed young Flandre. If you so desire to sketch out Youmu, you have my blessing."

"Just don't make me look weird…" Youmu requested as Yuyuko handed back the journal as Ford began to sketch Youmu, who brought out her swords to flash a pose with Myon behind her.

"We don't get many visitors here in the Netherworld." Yuyuko said. "Mostly it's my best friend, Yukari… sometimes Komachi if she feels so lazy… oh, and at one point, that cute Himiko girl showed up."

"Who is this Himiko exactly?" Ford asked.

"Oh, well, she's a human girl from Remnant who is studying magic as her semblance. Marisa took her in as an apprentice and everyone in Gensokyo has taken a shine to her, letting her use their abilities as a base before she goes and does her own style of magic."

"She's studied well under me." Patchouli smiled.

"Fascinating!" Ford nodded.

"Indeed." Yuyuko smiled.

"Speaking of Himiko, I've had a chat with her recently when I bumped into her in the human village the other day. She said that she feels different with her magic and claims that she aims to become a Youkai Magician." Youmu explained.

"Well, that's not out of the realm of possibility. Young Alice Margatroid was once human before she turned into one" Yuyuko said. "If she becomes a Youkai Magician just like her, then that is her desire."

"Hmm…" Patchouli folded her arms. "She would become a lot stronger. I fully support this."

"Of course, by doing so, it would require doing research that takes away their need for food." Yuyuko said. "...I personally do not want that if I felt the need to pursue that route."

"Lady Yuyuko, with all due respect, even if you did go that route and you took away your need for food… knowing you, you'd still be a garbage gut." Youmu said. "Not to mention that the Youkai Magicians halt their aging process once they learn how to. By all accounts, you're a ghost. You already got that "aging process" halted."

"Indeed… but you're definitely right about that food thing. It'd be an old habit that'd be hard to break~" Yuyuko giggled.

Youmu sighed. "What am I gonna do with you?"

Ford chuckled, finishing his sketch of Youmu while also adding in a few extra things. "How's this?" He asked, showing her the sketch.

"Hey, not bad." Youmu said, putting her arms down to relax. "Category: Phantom… neat."

"Oh, I request that you do a sketch of me!" Yuyuko said as she lay on her side and put her hand over her head while resting her elbow on the ground. "Sketch me like this~"

"Gah! Lady Yuyuko, you are NOT a french maid!" Youmu exclaimed in dismay.

"I think she could pull it off." Koakuma said.

"Hmm, perhaps." Patchouli agreed.

Yuyuko giggled. "I'm kidding. The pose isn't that comfortable anyway… though perhaps if I did it on some cushiony furniture…"

"Lady Yuyuko…" Youmu groaned.

"Kidding~!" Yuyuko giggled again as she stood up and smiled. "Just sketch me however you'd like."

"Will do." Ford nodded as he sketched her out, while nearby, Yukari watched in amusement.

"Oh, what am I gonna do with you, you adorkable doofus?" Yukari chuckled.

Back with Magnolia and the gang…

"Ooooh nooo…" Magnolia groaned as Cirno and Nick were getting along rather well, both of them laughing. "It's bad enough that my own brother can be a moron sometimes but now Cirno is… is… there's two of them now!" She said, slumping with anime tears running down her cheeks.

"Really! You fought off a monster in Remnant, eh?" Nick asked.

"Yeah, that big ol' Grimm thought he could eat a kid, so I used myself as bait to lure them away! It worked as well as you'd expect. The kid ran off and I had teeth marks all over me." Cirno nodded. "But I froze him solid! Of course, that Mikan lady patched me up when I kept telling her I was fine."

"That's nothing. Just the other day, I challenged Damian to a hot pepper eating contest and-"

"Oooohhhhhh…" Magnolia rubbed her temples. "They're already best friends…" She moaned while Logue was happily chatting it up with Daiyousei and Rumia. She didn't fault Logue for getting along with a fairy and a Youkai…

But Nick and Cirno? That was a different story.

Bro, I love you, but you don't need an opposite gender version of you!

"Pffft! Hahahaha! Oh, that's awesome! There was one time I saw a Fire Flower and I was one with fire! Unfortunately, I didn't know how to properly control the fire and accidentally set a forest on fire. I left the scene before anyone knew what happened!"

"That was you?! I thought it was a bad lightning storm!"

"Naaah, it was all me." Cirno laughed. "Best part was, it was blamed on those Venus Fire Trap plants or whatever they're called!"

"That's something I'd probably do by accident too!"

"Yeah, you're definitely accident prone." Cirno teased.

"Says the arsonist herself." Nick playfully jabbed back.

Shut up… shut up… Shut. Up. Magnolia thought, covering both sets of ears as the two morons were laughing and throwing jabs at each other. Just tune 'em out, Maggie… Tune. Them. OUT! SOMEONE PLEASE GET ME OUT OF HERE!

She felt some soft gentle pats on the back, courtesy of Logue and Daiyousei. "There there…" Logue said softly.

"Dai, how do you put up with Cirno's idiocy?"

"Well, she's my best friend. Her… tendencies drive me a bit crazy and I do scold her, but I know she means well."

"I'm the same way with my bro." Magnolia said and then sighed. "I'm just… not ready to deal with two Nicks…"

"I could eat one of them if you want me to." Rumia said.

"Rumia!" Daiyousei scolded.

"Kidding! I'm just kidding…" Rumia waved it off.

"Phew…" Logue sighed in relief.

"Morons… I'm surrounded by two morons…" Magnolia whimpered.

Later, with Ford…

"Hey Ford? I think it's about time we head back to the mansion." Patchouli informed.

"Hmm?" Ford looked at his watch. "Holy smokes, is it that time already? It was great chatting with you, Ms. Saigyouji, but I must take my leave."

"Very well. I enjoyed this conversation." Yuyuko smiled. "I look forward to another visit if you feel so inclined."

"It'll be a pleasure." Ford said, waving them goodbye as he walked off with Patchouli and Koakuma. "That Yuyuko…"

"Bit of a glutton, isn't she?" Patchouli chuckled.

"That's an understatement right there."

Later, at the SDM…

BGM: Have a Nice Talk (Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story plus Bowser Jr's Journey)

"My, I was expecting to have some tea outside." Ford said as they were in a grand, sunlit parlor in the mansion. The room was decorated with ornate furniture, delicate china, and an assortment of pastries and tea.

"Usually that would be the case, but I thought we'd have a more private chat inside." Remilia said.

"Not to mention it's… quite larger on the inside compared to the outside."

"Oh, that is because Sakuya is known to manipulate space just like she does with time." Remilia said.

"Wouldn't that cause… alarm for a few Pokemon?"

"Oh please, let Dialga whine. He'll get over it." Remilia chuckled. "For a god of time, he's quite the crybaby when it comes to time shenanigans. Now, admittedly, time is not to be messed with, but he, of all Pokemon, needs to take a chill pill. He should learn from Palkia. Sure, space can be messed with, and, let's be real, the Star Rift incident with Fecto was alarming, but unlike Dialga, Palkia is more level headed."

"I suppose that is true."

"Do you have any time lords in your world?" Remilia asked.

"Well, there was Time Baby… sure, he was a big baby, but he was surprisingly mature. I say "was" since Bill Cipher destroyed him."

"Oh, that's too bad… but if a big baby is more mature than a time god such as Dialga, someone needs to go and re-evaluate their life."

"However, Time Baby will revive… in about a thousand years since his molecules will have to reconstitute."

"Oh, such a long time…" Remilia hummed. "But, I've lived for five hundred years. I'm sure being fifteen hundred wouldn't be a bad thing for me~ Of course, you'd be dead… but eh, humans have such fragile lives."

Ford sweatdropped. "I'm… choosing not to be offended by that."

Remilia chuckled. "So, if you're curious about the mansion itself… well, the name "Scarlet Devil Mansion" comes from me being known as the Scarlet Devil before I came to Gensokyo."

"Really? "Before" you came to Gensokyo?"

"Oh yes, I was quite the lady outside of Gensokyo. You ever heard of Transylvania? It's a really great place. People thought I was Dracula's wife… but in reality, we were just good friends. He was the most powerful vampire of them all and I would occasionally help out just to deter the folks from wanting to end him."

"So you have a Dracula in your world."

"Indeed. I wonder how he's doing these days… it's unfortunate he didn't come with us with that weird merger, but it can't be helped. That said, there is another Dracula that fascinates me, and he has trouble with the Belmonts. Hmhmhm~ I might have helped him drive Simon away, though Richter and his magic was a different story… but, regardless… that version of Dracula is a bit of a sad one, given his tale of missing his loved one… but, I do not blame him for wanting to destroy humanity."

"What is his reasoning?"

"Well, there was a girl named Lisa that saw Dracula in a different light. Most people saw him as a monster but she saw him differently. Her skills in magic fascinated him and they both fell in love… but then people saw her as a witch and burned her at the stake, which in turn, caused him to snap."

"Hmm… a tragic beast."

"Indeed. Dracula often mourns his love… which is why it is so absurd that this gothic nobody who is on a massive power high decided to insert herself into his life and is trying to replace Lisa, calling herself the "new wife", even though he wants nothing to do with her."

"So why hasn't he killed her yet?"

"He has. Him and Death have tried to kill her yet she manages to survive anything that is thrown at her. At some point though, I fear Dracula may snap…"

Remilia chuckled darkly. "Although, him roughing up that fake vampire would be quite entertaining…"

"So she became a vampire herself?"

"When I asked him…"

Pause BGM

Flashback!

"So why did you sink your fangs into her neck anyway?" Remilia asked.

"Hmmm…" Dracula sipped some of his wine. "I had thought she was looking for a way out… she did seem much too eager and I had thought she just wanted me to end her mortality since she somehow managed to steer clear of Death. I obliged… I sunk my fangs into her and watched her be born anew as a vampire."

"So what did you do after that?"

"I figured I would send her on her way, let her enjoy her life as a vampire and build her own castle where she'd be an immortal figure… what I did not expect was that she would insert herself as "my new bride". At first, I thought she was joking… but I realized mere seconds after that she wasn't."

"And she is trying to replace Lisa?"

"No one could ever replace her."

"Hmm… if only that fake vampire could be put into her place." Remilia hummed.

"I will admit that her abusing that Schnee was mildly amusing… but now even I have pity on that man. Unfortunately no one is allowed to touch him, even if Death wants to mercy kill him to put him out of his misery."

Remilia closed her eyes. "Take comfort, Dracula… I feel as if the wheel of fate is about to make its turn on this fake vampire."

End flashback!

Resume BGM

"I genuinely feel that fate is about to show its hand on Celeste. May whatever god she prays to shows her mercy, because I doubt anyone in the castle will."

Ford grimaced. Yeesh…

"Anyway, where was I? Oh right, the history of the mansion. The thing is, the mansion appeared in Gensokyo around… oh, the late twentieth century."

"Really?"

"Yes." Remilia nodded. "Now then, what do you know about the human-Youkai relations in Gensokyo?"

"Well, I do know that it's a delicate balance between the two."

"Indeed. The humans in the Human Village are safe from the man eating Youkai that would love to make them their meal. That said, some Youkai like to disguise themselves and mingle with the common folk as they so desire. Aya, Mamizou, Miyoi, just to name a few… though the latter runs a bar at night. The sake is quite good but… eh, not as great as the wine we have here."

"I see…"

"The Faunus from Remnant are quite an interesting species. Gensokyo's a bit more crowded because of them, but at the same time, this is more of a peaceful sanctuary for them to hide out from the Grimm."

"If the Grimm were to ever disappear along with Salem… would they still hang around here?" Ford wondered.

"I thought of that myself, and to be frank, I'm pretty sure they would prefer to live here even if Salem disappears one day… something about being one with nature and being part animal would help that. Amazingly, the Youkai that love to eat humans seem to ignore the Faunus… it's quite interesting."

"So, what kind of incidents have happened here in Gensokyo?"

"Ah, the incidents that Reimu and Marisa tend to take care of, though sometimes Sakuya, Youmu and even Sanae join in every once in a while. There was the Scarlet Mist incident, which was what I caused so I could enjoy a walk around Gensokyo without having to deal with the sun… it doesn't kill me, but it severely weakens me. However, due to Patchouli getting better from that wild quack you call a doctor, she unleashed a spell that would shield us from the sun's weakening powers. Hence why my sister was able to keep up with that Kotoko girl."

"Fascinating, but just yesterday, Sakuya was holding an umbrella above your head."

"Hmm… to be fair, it's an old habit to break, admittedly." Sakuya said.

"Those pesky rays tend to get in my eyes… it's not exactly fun, I will admit."

"Truly." Ford nodded in agreement.

"The next incident was the Spring Snow incident. I'm sure you are familiar with it since you had just spoke with Youmu and Yuyuko earlier."

"Yes."

"The next one was more of a minor thing, and Aya decided to name this one the "Night Parade of One Hundred Oni Every Four Days"."

Ford sweatdropped. "That's… a very long title."

"Indeed. But no one knew what to call it. You see, there was a very strange mist that caused a never ending bountiful feast at the Hakurei Shrine. Every time it happened, a mist appeared. By the time they got to the bottom of it, it was just Suika spreading herself into the mist and gathered the hearts of humans and Youkai to cause them to have a feast every few days."

"That doesn't sound so bad…"

"Not entirely, but Reimu grew weary of it… though, I can't blame her. Preparing a feast every so often would get tiring. The next incident happened in the Harvest Moon festival, where the Youkai sensed something wrong with the moon. It had been replaced by a fake one… and staring at it would make anyone go insane. Hmhmhmhm~ Sakuya seemed to fare rather well regardless of the outcome."

"Oh?" Ford looked at Sakuya who simply smiled.

"The incident involved a nurse known as Eirin simply sealing the earth from the moon to prevent the Lunarians from taking away her mistress, the moon princess known as Kaguya Houraisan. She created a fake moon without anyone noticing."

"Hmm, sounds like something that could possibly happen in Gravity Falls…" Ford mumbled.

"Based on your journal entries, that could be possible." Remilia said. "If you want my honest opinion about that, well, I thought it was admirable but perhaps doing something that didn't cause the Youkai to grow uneasy would have been a better scenario."

"I wonder if there was an alternate method…"

"Who could say?" Remilia shrugged. "Now then, that was just a small snippet of the incidents that happened in Gensokyo. If you'd like to hear more later, I'd be happy to list them off for you."

"So, there's something that intrigues me about you." Ford said. "I had heard that your ability is to manipulate fate. Could you explain what that is like?"

"Ah, fate manipulation. We all have our own destiny and roles to fulfill, especially when one's time is up. Perhaps someone's fate is to marry the lovely man or woman they've laid eyes on and live a happy life. Perhaps someone's fate is to be turned into a pincushion. Perhaps… someone's fate is to rewrite and reshape the world to their will, only to still lose in the end. Fate is such a precarious thing, don't you think?"

"I suppose so."

"Take for example a certain thorn in everyone's side. I've heard a great deal about Chiaki Nanami's Twilight counterpart. However, her life is about to be snuffed out by her own fate. Her paranoia will be her undoing. I've tested her out when she was just a simple simulation that everyone was having trouble with."

"Mistress, you deliberately threw that fight just so that Twilight simulation would get a rise out of me." Sakuya said.

"Or was it fate that made her your eternal pincushion before that Keyblade boy laid into her?" Remilia took a sip. "Between my fate and that Enoshima girl's observations, I'd say we'd make quite the pair~"

Sakuya softly sighed while shaking her head.

"Regardless, the hourglass in Twilight's fate is running out… and there's nothing she can do to flip it. Her fate is already sealed. Hmhmhm, one could say that my influence on the simulation might have done something to the real one, but… perhaps it also didn't. Isn't fate such a fun topic~?"

"Depends on your definition of "fun"." Ford sweatdropped.

"Indeed."

"So… tell me more about these incidents."

"Well, there was the time when non-spring flowers and fairies were running amok in Gensokyo when it was spring time. That was an interesting one, to say the least. In fact-"

Meanwhile, with Enid Foxtrot…

BGM: Dr. Toadley (Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story plus Bowser Jr's Journey)

"Hmm…" Enid smiled. "I'm glad you are doing rather well." She said to her patient. "Now get some rest. It is a new day tomorrow." She said before she walked out the door.

"Your patient is doing rather well." A voice said as Enid turned to see Eirin approaching with Reisen.

"I'm thankful that Ms. Tsumiki referred to you." Enid said.

"Indeed. Sometimes I visit Toad Town's hospital and both her and I share stories of our patients. Sometimes we give each other medical advice, or, in my case, hand her some medicine that was only made in Gensokyo."

"There's only so much that I can do." Enid chuckled and extended her hand. "Dr. Enid Foxtrot, M.D. A pleasure to finally meet you, Ms Yagokoro."

"Likewise, Ms. Foxtrot." Eirin smiled as Enid turned to Reisen.

"And… are you perhaps a Youkai or a Faunus?"

"Oh, I'm just a Lunarian. Though we do have some rabbit faunus wander around the Bamboo Forest, so I can see why you'd think I'm a Faunus."

Enid chuckled. "I see."

"Did you come here alone?" Eirin asked.

"No, I came with my kids and their friend. As far as I know, they're playing in the Misty Lake."

"Oh dear, I hope Cirno isn't giving them any trouble at all." Reisen said.

"Oh, I'm sure they're fine." Eirin said.

Meanwhile…

Magnolia sighed. "Is this my punishment for teasing Nick that one time…?" She asked as Nick and Cirno were both playing pranks on Magnolia, much to her dismay. Luckily they were harmless, but it was enough to annoy her.

"I think putting flowers on your head is cute!" Logue smiled.

"Still filled with dirt and worms?" Magnolia deadpanned, reaching into her head and pulling a worm out of her hair. "Ugh, I thought I was done with that!"

"Nobody's perfect?" Rumia shrugged.

"At least Cirno's keeping her antics at bay…" Daiyousei said. "For the most part."

"Aaaand another frozen frog for you!" Cirno handed Magnolia another frozen frog before taking off. "Hey Nick! You want to see something awesome?"

Magnolia used her semblance to thaw the frog easily.

"Brothers almighty, and I thought Nick, Albedo and Damian were a handful…"

Way later, with Ford…

"Aaaand that's all the incidents so far, including the Dark Brainwashing Heart incident, Universal Reset and the Star Rift incident."

I still think the Dark Brainwashing Heart Incident could use a better name as far as the Mage Sisters and Hyness are concerned… Ford thought as he looked at the time. "Holy smokes, is it that time already? Thank you for your time, Ms Remilia, but I must be heading back to the Shrine."

"Oh, so it is getting late. Have fun getting back to the shrine, Ford. I'll see you again real soon~" She giggled as Ford walked off. "He sure is something, isn't he?"

"Indeed." Sakuya nodded.

Later…

Ford sat down, feeling the cool breeze of the shrine as he started writing in his journal.

(Note: Now is the time for another long journal entry. If you wish to skip, just scroll down.)

Gensokyo - Day Four

Entry Date: June 8th

Before I begin my entries on Youmu Konpaku and Yuyuko Saigyouji, I would like to add on just a few more things regarding the Scarlet Devil Mansion, since Remilia Scarlet had invited me to some tea. Allow me to add on to what I had written earlier.

The Scarlet Devil Mansion

The Scarlet Devil Mansion is a sprawling, gothic edifice that stands as one of the most enigmatic and dangerous locations in Gensokyo. Located near Misty Lake, the mansion is perpetually shrouded in mist, creating an eerie, almost otherworldly atmosphere. Home to several powerful and mysterious beings, the mansion itself is imbued with magic, making it more than just a residence—it is a fortress that defies conventional understandings of space and time.

The Mansion Itself

Architecture and Atmosphere

The Scarlet Devil Mansion is an imposing structure, exuding an air of ancient power and wealth. Its distinctly European architecture, with tall spires, elaborate stonework, and vast, darkened halls, evokes the gothic castles of the 15th century, yet it exists within the surreal and secluded world of Gensokyo. The interior is richly decorated, filled with antique furniture, ornate tapestries, and an apparently infinite number of rooms. Despite its grandeur, the mansion exudes a cold, foreboding atmosphere, amplified by the pervasive mist that surrounds it.

Spatial Anomalies

The mansion's layout is disorienting, as I have heard that Sakuya Izayoi manipulates space and tends to make it bigger than it is on the outside. From what I could gather with my tea time with Remilia, corridors seemed to shift, rooms that appear to move or vanish, and doors that lead to unexpected places. This suggests that the mansion is either sentient or heavily enchanted, designed to confuse and deter intruders. Navigating the mansion requires a strong sense of direction and a considerable amount of caution, as it is easy to become lost within its twisting halls.

Either that or Sakuya is just screwing with me.

Magical Properties

The mansion is saturated with magical energy, influencing its structure and the behavior of those within it. Time itself appears to flow differently inside the mansion, with certain areas feeling as though they exist on a different temporal plane. This could reflect the powers of its inhabitants, particularly Remilia Scarlet, who is rumored to have some control over fate.

The Misty Lake surrounding the mansion perpetually shrouds the structure in thick fog, further complicating any attempts at cartography or direct observation. This fog seems to possess supernatural properties, likely serving as a defensive measure to deter unwanted visitors.

Afternoon Tea with Remilia Scarlet

Just last night, I received an unexpected invitation from Remilia Scarlet to join her for afternoon tea. Given her formidable reputation as the mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, the prospect of a more personal interaction intrigued me. Remilia's invitation, though surprising, appeared genuine, prompting curiosity about her true intentions. While I approached the situation with caution, the experience proved to be enlightening in ways I had not anticipated.

The Invitation

The invitation was delivered by Sakuya Izayoi, the mansion's head maid, with her characteristic precision and formality. My interactions with Remilia had previously been formal, centered around exchanges of information, making a social invitation the last thing I expected. Remilia's reputation as a powerful and somewhat aloof figure made the gesture all the more surprising.

Despite initial reservations, I chose to accept the invitation. My curiosity outweighed any concerns, seeing this as an opportunity to gain deeper insight into Remilia's character and perhaps learn more about the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Additionally, the chance to observe her in a more relaxed, social setting was too valuable to pass up.

The Tea Time

Setting

The tea was held in a grand, sunlit parlor within the Scarlet Devil Mansion. The room was tastefully decorated with ornate furniture, delicate china, and an assortment of pastries and tea, reflecting an appreciation for finer things. Despite the mansion's typically eerie atmosphere, the parlor was warm and inviting, a stark contrast to the dark, misty exterior.

Remilia's Sociability

Remilia was surprisingly sociable, displaying a charm and wit that one might not expect from a centuries-old vampire. She led the conversation with ease, covering a wide range of topics—from the history of the mansion to the changing seasons in Gensokyo. Her demeanor was relaxed, even playful at times, making the interaction far more pleasant than anticipated.

Personal Notes:

-I found myself disarmed by Remilia's sociability. Despite her fearsome reputation and the power she wields, she possesses a charisma that makes her company enjoyable.

-It's clear how she maintains control over the mansion and its inhabitants—not just through power, but through a subtle, almost magnetic charm.

The Conversation

Topics Discussed

The conversation covered a broad array of topics, including:

-The history and architecture of the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

-The nuances of human-youkai relations in Gensokyo.

-Various incidents in Gensokyo, with Remilia providing her own unique perspective on each.

-Her thoughts on fate and destiny, where she made intriguing, albeit cryptic, remarks about her ability to influence such forces.

Remilia's Insights

Remilia offered insights into Gensokyo that I had not previously considered. Her long life has provided her with a perspective that is both broad and deep. She spoke of the cyclical nature of power dynamics within Gensokyo and the importance of maintaining a balance—not just between humans and youkai, but among the many forces that shape this world.

Personal Notes:

-While Remilia's insights were fascinating, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was also probing me for information.

-She asked pointed questions about my research and my views on Gensokyo, always with a smile but with a sharpness that suggested she was gathering her own data.

-This was as much a social interaction as it was an opportunity for her to learn more about me and my intentions.

The afternoon tea with Remilia Scarlet was a unique experience, revealing a side of her not often seen. While she is undoubtedly powerful and potentially dangerous, she is also a skilled conversationalist with a deep understanding of Gensokyo and its complexities. Her sociability, though unexpected, is likely one of the tools she uses to maintain her influence over the mansion and its residents.

Personal Notes:

Despite the unusual nature of the invitation, the interaction was quite pleasant. Remilia is a more layered individual than I initially thought, and her ability to blend charm with subtle manipulation is impressive.

I must remain cautious in my dealings with her, but I cannot deny that I find her company intriguing. She is both a formidable ally and a potential adversary, depending on how our relationship evolves.

Recommendation:

-Maintain a cordial relationship with Remilia Scarlet.

-While it is crucial to be aware of her ability to manipulate situations to her advantage, engaging with her on a social level could provide valuable insights into her character and the workings of the Scarlet Devil Mansion.

-However, always remember that beneath her charm lies a calculating mind—one that is constantly seeking to understand and control the forces around her.

-I wish I could entail more about the Scarlet Devil Mansion, but I did not gain consent from her. I will have to ask her one of these times.

Now, I wish to include some insights regarding two individuals in the Scarlet Devil Mansion, as I had learned from my research.

Patchouli Knowledge & Koakuma – Unexpected Research Allies

In my ongoing efforts to understand the complexities of Gensokyo, I have found an unexpected and invaluable ally in Patchouli Knowledge, the reclusive scholar of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Her extensive knowledge of magic, combined with the assistance of her diligent familiar, Koakuma, has proven to be an essential resource in my research. Despite her reserved nature, Patchouli has shown a remarkable willingness to collaborate, and Koakuma's enthusiasm has added a surprising dynamic to our work together.

Patchouli Knowledge – The Arcane Scholar

Intellectual Kinship

Patchouli's reputation as a scholar and magician precedes her, and upon meeting her, I quickly realized that her knowledge far exceeds what I had anticipated. Our initial interactions were simply one of surprise since she and Koakuma had studied my journals and become quite fascinated by them. Once she realized I was studying Gensokyo with genuine interest in magical theory and the pursuit of knowledge, she was right on board.

Research Collaboration

Our work together has focused on the study of Gensokyo's unique magical ecosystem, with Patchouli providing insights that only someone with centuries of study could offer. She is particularly knowledgeable about elemental magic, magical artifacts, and the deeper mysteries of Gensokyo's creation and maintenance. What I appreciate most is her precise, methodical approach to research—a quality that resonates with my own scientific methods.

Personal Notes:

-Patchouli had once frail health due to anemia and other issues, but she had undergone surgery and has become much more powerful. Her health has also improved. Perhaps it is best not to get on her bad side… I wonder if she could be more powerful than the head mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion? Only time may tell.

-Her mind remains sharp, and her determination to uncover the secrets of magic is unwavering. I have come to admire her dedication, and I find our intellectual exchanges both stimulating and productive.

Koakuma – The Diligent Assistant

First Impressions

Koakuma, Patchouli's demonic familiar, initially struck me as little more than a background figure—quiet, dutiful, and always present during our sessions in the library. However, as I spent more time working alongside Patchouli, I began to notice Koakuma's considerable contributions to our research.

Role in Research

Koakuma is not just a passive assistant; she is deeply involved in the day-to-day operations of Patchouli's studies. Her organizational skills are impeccable, and she often anticipates the needs of both Patchouli and myself before we even voice them. She has a surprising breadth of knowledge, especially in areas related to lesser-known magical creatures and esoteric texts. On more than one occasion, Koakuma has retrieved a rare tome or provided an obscure piece of information that proved crucial to our work.

Personal Notes:

Koakuma's presence is both calming and invigorating. Her enthusiasm for learning and her dedication to Patchouli's work are infectious, and she has become an essential part of our research team.

While she may lack the raw power of her mistress, Koakuma's intellect and eagerness to assist make her a valuable ally in our quest for knowledge.

Our Collaborative Efforts

The Library of the Scarlet Devil Mansion

Despite me not gaining permission from Remilia, she had granted me access to only the library by Patchouli's suggestion. The library has become our base of operations, a veritable treasure trove of arcane knowledge that is both vast and meticulously organized. With Patchouli's guidance and Koakuma's assistance, I have been able to access texts and resources that would be unimaginable elsewhere. Together, we have delved into the study of Gensokyo's magical energies, analyzed ancient spells, and even begun to explore the origins of this mysterious world.

A Meeting of Minds

What began as a tentative partnership has grown into a true collaboration. Patchouli and I complement each other well—her deep magical expertise balances my scientific curiosity and analytical methods. Our discussions often extend late into the night, with Koakuma dutifully keeping us supplied with the necessary materials (and sometimes refreshments). The synergy between us has led to breakthroughs in understanding Gensokyo's magical phenomena that I could never have achieved on my own.

Personal Notes:

-I did not expect to find such kindred spirits in Gensokyo, least of all within the enigmatic Scarlet Devil Mansion.

-Yet, Patchouli's intellect and Koakuma's enthusiasm have made this one of the most rewarding collaborations of my career.

-All in all, I have come to respect them both deeply, not just as colleagues, but as friends.

My partnership with Patchouli Knowledge and Koakuma has been a surprising and invaluable development in my exploration of Gensokyo. Together, we have uncovered secrets and advanced our understanding of this magical world in ways that would have been impossible alone. Despite the challenges posed by the mansion's other inhabitants and the volatile nature of Gensokyo itself, our work continues to thrive. I look forward to further collaboration, and I am grateful to have found such dedicated and brilliant companions in my quest for knowledge.

Recommendations:

-Maintain and nurture this collaboration. Patchouli and Koakuma's insights are indispensable, and their willingness to share their knowledge makes them essential allies.

-Continue to engage with them respectfully, recognizing the unique contributions each brings to our shared goals.

Patchouli Knowledge & Koakuma – Unexpected Research Allies (Part II)

My continued collaboration with Patchouli Knowledge and her familiar, Koakuma, has deepened both our professional relationship and our mutual respect. While much of our work together has taken place within the Scarlet Devil Mansion's vast library, recent interactions have extended beyond those walls, offering new contexts for our research and further solidifying our partnership. These interactions have not only advanced our collective knowledge but also provided a richer understanding of the personalities and dynamics that make Patchouli and Koakuma such invaluable allies.

Within the Scarlet Devil Mansion

Continued Research in the Library

The Scarlet Devil Mansion's library remains the primary hub for our collaborative efforts. Here, Patchouli and I have delved deeper into a range of topics, including elemental magic, ancient artifacts, and the intersection of magical theory and practical application. Koakuma continues to play a crucial role, efficiently managing the flow of research materials and providing her own insights when appropriate.

Despite Patchouli's improved health, she still often takes breaks to not overtax herself. I suppose some habits are hard to break, as she admits. These breaks have often turned into informal brainstorming sessions, where we've explored ideas that we later refined into formal research projects.

Personal Notes:

-Patchouli's commitment to her work is unwavering, but I've noticed she has become more open to adjusting our pace when necessary. This has led to a more balanced and productive working relationship.

-Koakuma's support has been invaluable in maintaining this balance, ensuring that Patchouli's well-being is never compromised for the sake of progress.

Koakuma's Growing Role

Koakuma has gradually taken on more responsibilities, not just in managing the library but also in contributing to our research. She has shown a particular aptitude for tracking down obscure references and connecting seemingly unrelated concepts, which has led to several key breakthroughs in our studies. Her growing confidence and proactive approach have made her an indispensable part of our team.

In addition to her research support, Koakuma has started to share more about her own experiences and observations, particularly regarding the magical ecosystem of Gensokyo. These insights, while often delivered with her characteristic modesty, have proven to be quite valuable, offering perspectives that neither Patchouli nor I had considered.

Personal Notes:

-Koakuma's growth as a researcher has been a pleasure to witness. Her transition from a quiet assistant to an active participant in our work has enriched our research and added a new dynamic to our interactions.

-Her insights are thoughtful and often illuminate aspects of our studies that might otherwise be overlooked. I'm proud to see her stepping into a more prominent role within our collaboration.

Outside the Mansion

Explorations Beyond the Library

Recently, Patchouli, Koakuma, and I have ventured outside the mansion for field research. These excursions have included visits to sites of magical significance within Gensokyo, such as the Forest of Magic, the Misty Lake, and the Human Village. These trips have allowed us to gather firsthand data and test some of the theories we've developed in the library.

Patchouli has shown a surprising enthusiasm for these field studies. The experience of seeing magical phenomena in their natural settings has invigorated our research. Koakuma's role during these trips has been crucial—she not only assists with the physical aspects of our explorations but also keeps a careful eye on Patchouli's well-being, ensuring she doesn't overexert herself just in case of a relapse.

Personal Notes:

-Taking our research out of the confines of the library has been a refreshing change. It has provided new data and context for our work, and I believe it has also had a positive impact on Patchouli.

-She seems to draw energy from being in the field, and the experience has added a new dimension to our studies. Koakuma's care and attentiveness during these trips have ensured that we can explore safely and effectively.

Social Interactions Beyond Research

Beyond our research activities, we've also spent time together in more casual settings, such as the Human Village, or during quieter moments at the mansion. These interactions have helped build a stronger rapport between us, turning our professional relationship into a genuine friendship. Discussions over tea in the village or quiet walks around the mansion grounds have revealed more about Patchouli's and Koakuma's personalities—Patchouli's dry wit and Koakuma's gentle humor, for instance, have become more apparent during these moments.

I've also had the opportunity to introduce Patchouli and Koakuma to some of the more scientific methods I've brought from the outside world, such as observational techniques and experimental design. While Patchouli was initially skeptical, she has come to appreciate the structured approach, and Koakuma has taken to these methods with her usual enthusiasm.

Personal Notes:

-Our time outside the confines of research has strengthened our bond in ways I hadn't anticipated. I've come to see Patchouli and Koakuma not just as research partners, but as friends.

-These more relaxed interactions have provided a deeper understanding of who they are beyond their roles in the library, and I find that our work benefits from this closer connection.

-It's a reminder that even in a world as mysterious as Gensokyo, the personal relationships we build are just as important as the knowledge we uncover.

My partnership with Patchouli and Koakuma has evolved into one of the most rewarding aspects of my time in Gensokyo. Whether within the walls of the Scarlet Devil Mansion or out in the field, our collaboration has continued to yield significant results, both in terms of research and personal growth. Patchouli's vast knowledge and Koakuma's growing confidence have created a dynamic and effective team, one that I am proud to be a part of.

The expansion of our work beyond the mansion has added new layers to our research while also deepening our personal connections. These experiences have reinforced the importance of flexibility in our approach—whether adjusting to Patchouli's health needs or adapting to the challenges of fieldwork. The result is a balanced and productive partnership that continues to push the boundaries of what we can achieve together.

Recommendations:

-Continue to nurture the relationship with Patchouli and Koakuma, both within the context of research and in more casual, social settings.

-Encourage further fieldwork to complement our library-based studies, and remain attentive to the well-being of all members of the team. The bond we've developed is not only enhancing our work but also enriching our experience of Gensokyo as a whole.

Personal Notes:

-The depth of our collaboration has surpassed my expectations, turning what began as a professional alliance into a true friendship.

-I've come to value Patchouli's sharp intellect and Koakuma's supportive nature in equal measure, and I look forward to seeing where our continued efforts will lead us.

-Whether in the quiet of the library or the vibrant world beyond it, I am grateful for the journey we are on together.

The Human Villages of Gensokyo

The human villages of Gensokyo are unique enclaves where the majority of the human population resides, serving as vital centers of life, culture, and commerce within an otherwise supernatural-dominated world. Despite being surrounded by powerful youkai and other supernatural entities, the human villagers have managed to carve out a relatively stable existence, relying on a combination of tradition, spiritual practices, and mutual support.

The Main Human Village

Location and Layout

The primary human village, often referred to simply as "the Human Village," is the largest and most established settlement in Gensokyo. Located near the center of Gensokyo, the village is naturally protected by surrounding forests and mountains, which provide a buffer against the more dangerous youkai that inhabit the wilderness. The village layout is traditional, with narrow streets lined by wooden houses and small shops. At the center of the village is a bustling marketplace where villagers trade goods, food, and occasionally, magical items. The Hakurei Shrine is nearby, and its presence is a comforting symbol of protection for the villagers.

Population and Society

The village is home to a diverse population, including farmers, artisans, merchants, and spiritual practitioners. The villagers are generally self-sufficient, growing their own food and producing the goods they need. Despite the ever-present threat of youkai, the village has a strong sense of community, with the people displaying resilience and resourcefulness. The social structure is somewhat hierarchical, with elders and spiritual leaders holding positions of respect and authority. The village also has a network of guardians and hunters tasked with protecting the community from youkai attacks, often possessing combat skills or spiritual training.

Interaction with Youkai

The relationship between humans and youkai in the village is complex. While villagers are generally cautious of youkai, certain youkai regularly interact with the human population through trade, alliances, or personal relationships. However, there is always an underlying tension, as the villagers remain acutely aware of the potential dangers posed by these beings.

Personal Notes:

The Human Village is a testament to the adaptability and resilience of the human spirit. Despite living in a world dominated by supernatural forces, the villagers have created a thriving community that balances tradition with the realities of their environment.

Their cautious yet pragmatic approach to dealing with youkai is both admirable and necessary for their survival.

Smaller Settlements

Outlying Villages and Hamlets

In addition to the main Human Village, there are several smaller settlements scattered throughout Gensokyo. These outlying villages and hamlets are often more isolated and less secure, with fewer resources and a greater reliance on self-defense. The inhabitants of these smaller communities tend to be even more cautious and self-reliant, as they are more vulnerable to youkai attacks. These smaller settlements are typically centered around specific resources, such as fertile land for farming, access to rivers, or proximity to magical ley lines. Each village has its own unique culture and customs, shaped by the environment and the specific challenges they face.

Social Dynamics

The social dynamics in these smaller settlements differ slightly from those in the main village. The communities are tighter-knit, with a greater emphasis on mutual support and collective decision-making. Spiritual practices are often more localized, with village-specific rituals and traditions that reflect the unique characteristics of the area.

Interaction with Outsiders

While the main Human Village is relatively open to outsiders, these smaller settlements are more insular. Outsiders, including youkai and travelers from the outside world, are often met with suspicion or outright hostility. This is especially true in villages that have suffered recent attacks or have a history of conflict with youkai.

Personal Notes:

-The outlying villages offer a fascinating glimpse into the diversity of human life in Gensokyo.

-Each settlement is a microcosm of adaptation, with its own unique challenges and solutions.

-While they may lack the resources and protection of the main village, the people here exhibit an even greater degree of resilience and ingenuity.

Culture and Traditions

Spiritual Practices

Spirituality plays a central role in the lives of Gensokyo's human villagers. Shinto and Buddhist practices are common, with many villagers regularly visiting local shrines and temples. The Hakurei Shrine, in particular, holds a significant place in the hearts of the villagers, as it is seen as the primary defense against youkai and other supernatural threats. In addition to formal religious practices, the villagers engage in various folk rituals and superstitions designed to ward off evil spirits and ensure good fortune. Talismans, ofuda (paper charms), and protective amulets are commonly used, and it is not uncommon to see homes and businesses adorned with protective symbols.

Festivals and Celebrations

The villagers celebrate several festivals throughout the year, many of which are tied to the changing seasons and agricultural cycles. These festivals often include rituals to honor the gods and spirits, as well as communal activities such as feasting, music, and dance. The festivals serve as a crucial means of reinforcing community bonds and maintaining the villagers' connection to the spiritual world. One of the most significant festivals is the annual Reitaisai, held at the Hakurei Shrine, which draws participants from across Gensokyo. This festival is both a spiritual event and a social gathering, where villagers and youkai alike come together in a rare display of unity.

Personal Notes:

-The culture of Gensokyo's human villages is a rich tapestry of tradition and adaptation.

-The villagers' spiritual practices and festivals reflect their deep connection to the land and their understanding of the delicate balance between the human and supernatural worlds.

-These cultural practices not only provide comfort and protection but also serve to strengthen the community as a whole.

The human villages of Gensokyo are remarkable examples of how humanity can thrive even in the most challenging environments. The villagers have developed a way of life that balances tradition with practicality, allowing them to coexist with the supernatural forces that surround them. Their ability to maintain a sense of normalcy and community in such a world is both impressive and inspiring.

The human villages offer numerous research opportunities, particularly in the areas of cultural anthropology, spiritual practices, and the sociology of isolated communities. Understanding how these villages have adapted to their unique circumstances could provide valuable insights into the broader dynamics of Gensokyo and the relationship between humans and youkai.

Personal Notes:

My time in the human villages has deepened my appreciation for the resilience and ingenuity of the human spirit.

The villagers' ability to maintain a stable and thriving community in the face of constant supernatural threats is a testament to their strength and determination.

I look forward to continuing my studies in these communities and learning more about the unique ways they navigate life in Gensokyo.

Recommendations:

-Continue to engage with the human villages in Gensokyo, focusing on building trust and understanding their cultural practices. Documenting their unique adaptations to life in a supernatural world will provide valuable context for understanding the broader dynamics of Gensokyo.

-However, remain respectful of their traditions and cautious in interactions with more insular communities.

Now then, as I had gotten sidetracked with the Human Villages, allow me to talk about Youmu and Yuyuko.

Yuyuko Saigyouji & Youmu Konpaku – The Netherworld of Gensokyo

Yuyuko Saigyouji and Youmu Konpaku are the central figures of Hakugyokurou, a grand estate located in the Netherworld. Yuyuko, a ghost princess, and Youmu, her half-human, half-phantom servant, form a unique and powerful duo. Hakugyokurou is a place of great spiritual significance, where the boundaries between life and death are fluid, and the rules of the living world do not always apply. My interactions with Yuyuko and Youmu have provided valuable insights into the nature of the afterlife in Gensokyo, as well as the delicate balance they maintain between the worlds of the living and the dead.

Yuyuko Saigyouji – The Ghost Princess

Background and Abilities

Yuyuko Saigyouji is the ruler of Hakugyokurou and a being of considerable power and influence. As a ghost, she exists in a state between life and death, fully aware of both worlds but bound to neither. Yuyuko possesses the ability to invoke death, controlling the souls of the departed and even causing death with a mere thought. However, she wields this power with a light touch, more interested in the beauty and transience of life than in causing harm.

Personality

Yuyuko is an enigmatic figure, exuding an air of gentle melancholy mixed with a whimsical, almost childlike curiosity. She is fond of food, particularly sweet treats, and often seems more interested in the pleasures of the moment than in the heavy responsibilities that come with her role. Despite her playful demeanor, there is a profound wisdom in her words, often expressed in riddles or poetic musings about life and death.

My Interactions with Yuyuko

My interactions with Yuyuko have been both enlightening and disorienting. She seems to delight in keeping conversations light and whimsical, often steering them toward topics like food, flowers, or the nature of existence. However, beneath this playful surface, Yuyuko possesses a deep understanding of the world and its cycles. Her ability to perceive the flow of life and death gives her a unique perspective, one that she shares sparingly but with great impact.

Personal Notes:

-Yuyuko's presence is both soothing and unsettling. Her ability to evoke death is a constant reminder of her power, yet she uses it with such grace and restraint that it is easy to forget the danger she represents.

-Engaging with her requires a delicate balance—acknowledging her power while appreciating her gentle spirit.

Youmu Konpaku – The Half-Phantom Swordswoman

Background and Abilities

Youmu Konpaku is Yuyuko's loyal servant and bodyguard, a half-human, half-phantom warrior who serves as the caretaker of Hakugyokurou's expansive gardens and grounds. Youmu is a skilled swordswoman, wielding two blades: the longer Roukanken and the shorter Hakurouken. Her abilities are a blend of physical prowess and spiritual control, allowing her to cut through both physical and spiritual entities with precision and power.

Personality

Youmu is earnest, disciplined, and somewhat serious—qualities that contrast sharply with Yuyuko's playful nature. She is deeply committed to her duties and takes great pride in her role as Yuyuko's protector. Despite her youth and relative inexperience compared to other powerful beings in Gensokyo, Youmu's determination and sense of duty make her a formidable figure. She is also somewhat socially awkward, particularly when interacting with those outside Hakugyokurou, which adds an endearing aspect to her otherwise stern demeanor.

My Interactions with Youmu

My interactions with Youmu have been marked by her sense of duty and formality. She approached me with caution, clearly intent on ensuring that I posed no threat to Yuyuko or Hakugyokurou. However, as our conversations progressed, she became more open, particularly when discussing topics related to swordsmanship, gardening, and her responsibilities. Youmu's dedication to her role is admirable, and her straightforward nature makes her easier to engage with on serious topics than her mistress.

Personal Notes:

-Youmu's combination of seriousness and slight awkwardness is endearing. She is clearly uncomfortable with any situation that deviates from her strict sense of duty, yet she strives to be polite and accommodating.

-I respect her dedication and find her to be a valuable source of information about the spiritual aspects of Gensokyo, particularly in relation to the Netherworld.

-Ironically enough, she is actually terrified of ghosts despite being a Phantom herself. Even something as docile as a Trevenant can spook her. I find this characteristic hilariously charming. A ghost girl afraid of ghosts. Who would've thought? However, we all have our fears, so she has my sympathies… hilarious as it might be.

Hakugyokurou – The Netherworld

The Estate

Hakugyokurou is a sprawling, ethereal estate located in the Netherworld, a realm that serves as a waystation for the souls of the dead. The estate is surrounded by cherry blossom trees that bloom perpetually, creating a hauntingly beautiful landscape that blurs the line between life and death. The mansion itself is grand and somewhat otherworldly, with architecture that reflects both Japanese tradition and the ethereal nature of its surroundings.

Spiritual Significance

Hakugyokurou is more than just a residence; it is a place of deep spiritual significance where the boundaries between life and death are thin. The cherry blossoms that surround the estate are believed to represent the fleeting nature of life, and they serve as a reminder of the transient beauty that Yuyuko so cherishes. The estate functions as a place where souls can find peace before moving on to their final destination, and Yuyuko's role as the ruler of this realm gives her considerable influence over the process.

Personal Notes:

-Hakugyokurou is a place that embodies the concept of impermanence. Everything here, from the architecture to the gardens, seems to exist in a state of delicate balance—neither fully alive nor fully dead.

-My time here has given me a deeper appreciation for the spiritual underpinnings of Gensokyo and the important role that Yuyuko and Youmu play in maintaining this balance.

Yuyuko Saigyouji and Youmu Konpaku represent the duality of life and death, each embodying different aspects of this fundamental cycle. Yuyuko's gentle acceptance of death and Youmu's fierce dedication to protecting life create a harmonious balance that defines Hakugyokurou. My interactions with them have deepened my understanding of Gensokyo's spiritual landscape and the intricate ways in which life and death are interconnected in this world.

Recommendations:

-Continue to engage with Yuyuko and Youmu, as their perspectives offer invaluable insights into the nature of life, death, and the afterlife in Gensokyo.

-However, remain respectful of their roles and the delicate balance they maintain within Hakugyokurou. Yuyuko's playful nature should not be underestimated, nor should Youmu's serious demeanor be taken as a lack of warmth. Both are essential to understanding the spiritual dynamics of Gensokyo.

Personal Notes:

-Yuyuko and Youmu are a study in contrasts—light and dark, life and death, whimsy and discipline. Together, they create a unique and fascinating dynamic that is both enlightening and humbling.

-I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from them and look forward to furthering my understanding of the spiritual mysteries they oversee.

Tomorrow, I will explore the Youkai Mountain. I hear that one of my fellow eggheads, Nitori, live there. Perhaps I should pay her a visit."

(You may resume reading here if you had skipped through the journal entry.)

Ford stretched and then looked up at the sky, letting out a soft sigh.

"Tea?" Reimu offered, sitting down with him.

"Thanks." Ford smiled as he took a cup as they both looked up at the sky together.

Meanwhile, at the Scarlet Devil Mansion's roof…

"I'm surprised that he hadn't asked me if he could research the Scarlet Devil Mansion." Remilia said. "I would've said yes… that was the whole purpose of that tea party."

"Well, you did intrigue him with the incidents…" Sakuya said.

"Mmm, I suppose that's fair." She nodded and looked up at the sky. "I wonder how Flan's doing… she's probably having a lot of fun in Paldea."

"AIYEEEEEEE!"

"Hmm?" Remilia shifted her eyes as Aya was thrown to the ground with knives all over her back. "Ah, I see you picked up a stray, Sakuya."

"I'm not Marisa, ya dingus!" Aya said as she stood up, pulling the knives out of her back. "Ow… ooof…"

"You mind explaining why you decided to make your presence known?" Sakuya asked.

"Yeah, I was gonna let Remilia know that a monster made its way into Gensokyo."

"Another one? Eh, let Reimu and Marisa take care of it. If it's another Rathalos or Legiana, then it won't be an issue."

"Actually… this one might interest you." Aya said, showing her camera to Remilia.

"Hmm? Whoa… whoooooa. That's a beauty! What is it called?"

"It's in a quarry cove just near the Fairy Lake. From what I could gather… that monster is known as a Malzeno. I've asked around in Remnant and some folks say it's an Elder Dragon."

"Is that so?" Remilia mused. "A Malzeno… interesting! Very interesting…"

"What are you planning to do?"

"Well, if Ford isn't too busy tomorrow, we can have him come with us to see the Malzeno for himself." She said.

"M'Lady, I just peeked into his journal. He's going to visit the Youkai Mountain tomorrow."

"Oh, is that right? Well, keep an eye on him and extend an invitation to him once he's finished researching the mountain. I want him to observe."

"Understood." Sakuya nodded.

"Hold on. Time out." Aya said. "Observe what exactly?"

Remilia smirked. "I believe the Malzeno would make an excellent pet for the Scarlet Devil Mansion, wouldn't you say~?"

Sony. Sony... SONY. What the actual HELL are you smoking? Seven hundred bucks for a PS5 Pro, and an additional eighty bucks for the Disk Drive that is sold separately, basically making it an eight hundred dollar console? Are you for REAL?!

Ibuki: It's worse in yen... *groans*

Deadpool: They're smoking all the crack and I don't want to be a part of it!

Indeed... also, a shout out to DarkRebellion for part two of this Gaiden idea!
