Rebecca and Amir looked at their son who was lying in the hospital bed without saying anything, she asks -don't you want to sleep for a while honey?-
But he shakes his head, after what seems like an eternity he finally says -I'm scared to do it...- then he asks -and Boris?-
His mother answers -he stayed at home... with your grandparents-
Abe looked at them in amazement and they just shrugged their shoulders.
At the house with everyone sitting at the table, Boris mentions -and that's when I was told that Jews don't get tattoos, I was lucky, any other tattoo artist would have just charged me and that was it, lol-
Benjamin seemed slightly disturbed by the story, although Salim and Aida seemed very amused by it.
Then Boris mentions -and I was also a Muslim at one point in my life- then Salim and Aida's faces were the ones that went blank.
While Benjamin said amused -don't tell me... tell us more-
Dr. Park and a new blond doctor with blue eyes and a scruffy beard enter the room. She introduces him - he is Dr. Chase, head of the diagnostic area-
They quickly introduced themselves and the new doctor mentioned - if you don't mind, I think it's better if Abe tells us what he felt at that moment in his own words - noticing that they were tripping over their words when trying to explain the incident.
He approached the boy and asked - well Abe, please tell us what you feel about what happened - after a few moments of silence, Abe said - I heard them, Tommy, Jo, Otis and the other two who didn't say their names –
They let him continue as they rarely did and he said -the other time in the alley, it was like my body went into autopilot, like I disconnected from it, but now it was different, they WERE there, it was like being chained with my head fixed on a screen… a screen where you couldn't change the channel, or close your eyes…-
Amir and Rebecca were biting their mouths to not say anything, finally everyone left the room leaving Abe to rest, who flatly refused to be given any kind of sedative.
With everyone already in the hallway Rebecca mentions -they said the pills would make the hallucinations disappear, but only…-
Chase answers -Mrs. Odeh…- but she immediately replies offended -Solomon-
The doctor says regretfully -Mrs. Solomon, we understand, seriously, but you have to understand that this is a new symptom, and therefore you have to…-
But Rebecca offended says -she started speaking French…- totally frustrated.
Amir adds -and not like Ladybug fans do, it was a French guy with a strong accent like an… a villages old man-
Park then comments -look, the best thing you could do now was bring him, now we…- but Rebecca still worried says -he keeps getting worse and you don't tell us anything-
Amir says -besides, his tests said everything was normal-
When suddenly a voice behind them said -and they still are, which is ridiculous since it's obvious that this boy hasn't slept well for months- it was a man with a beard and several gray hairs who approached them with a cane.
The parents looked at each other and Amir asked skeptically -and you are?- an African-American man who approached said -I'm Eric Foreman, the dean of medicine, he's an advisor who we SOMETIMES call, but not this time... and that's why he was leaving-
The man with the cane says -yes, yes, I was leaving, but first answer me, is the child his?- directing the question to Rebecca, pointing at Amir.
Both of them angrily ask -excuse me?- to which Chase says angrily -House, get out-
But he, ignoring him, continues -it's just that I couldn't help but notice how white he is and although I enjoy just imagining the large number of hereditary diseases coming from his mix of genes... or maybe it's a matter of his "special little friend" from the Soviet zone, maybe we should bring him and see if...-
He didn't finish his speech because Rebecca slapped him hard enough to knock him to the floor.
Amir angrily says -if his tests say he's okay, then we'll take him home right now... and get another opinion-
And they both walked out of the hallway with a firm step, Chase went after them trying to convince them, House comments -these centennial parents can't stand simple questions- while he stood up.
Foreman looks at him very annoyed and he simply asks -What?... it's not like Armin's parents were going to get anything-
Which makes Park snort annoyed and leave as well.
Benjamin comments -what a great story Boris, you made the last 2 hours fly by…- to which Salim and Aida respond with a disdainful gesture.
The front door opens and Rebecca and Amir enter, followed by Abe, who whistles and says -phew, phew… come here handsome- clapping.
Rebecca asks him -What are you doing?- to which Abe replies -I'm calling the stray dog I brought in a few weeks ago-
She and Amir are looking at each other weirdly, when Boris comes into the hall saying -that's me- and leans over to have the shorter guy scratch his head.
Amir sighs and looks at his wife "at least he's in the mood for clowning" which she apparently picked up on.
Then the family gathered to eat, and Aida asked –Habibi, won't you put sauce on your falafel?- Abe answers –never mind-
She doubtfully says –but you always loved me…- Abe interrupts her and answers half-heartedly –it doesn't taste like anything to me- causing everything in the room to fall silent.
Finally, Benjamin comments –hey, son, your father told me that last night you thought you were Jo Lalande-
Rebecca comments frustrated -dad, it's not the time…- but Benjamin raises a hand to ask for the floor and continues -I don't blame you, I also wanted to be like him at your age-
That surprised everyone and suddenly Rebecca said -oh, of course… I had forgotten, did you ever tell Abe… that story?-
Benjamin comments -not that I remember, it must have been when he was very small and he kept it somewhere in his mind-
Amir asks - could you give us an introduction to the heroic story we are not familiar with? - they laugh.
And Benjamin begins - back in the dark times of the second world war, my mother Leah was a little girl who lived for YEARS, hidden in a barn in France, escaping from the German soldiers who roamed the area -
Amir asks - How old was she? - to which Benjamin shrugs his shoulders and sighs heavily answers - from 3 to 6 years old… Jo Lalande, was a young shepherd who lived at that time in peace in that village, he spent all that time bringing food to her and the other children in the barn, in the end they managed to escape to Spain and from there to Is… to Palestine –
Which earns him an indescribable look from Aida and Salim, Boris who had remained silent the whole story, asked -and what happened to the child hero?-
Benjamin sighs and answers -the soldiers were about to capture my mother and his adoptive father, Benjamin, but Jo caught their attention diverting them from there… and getting the soldiers to shoot him, he sacrificed himself for our family-
Abe began to cry and said -I'm sorry, that name, I couldn't control myself, but I shouldn't have…- Benjamin takes his shoulder and says -hey, don't worry, I'm glad that a part of you can identify with him-
Well, in the end I'm going to have to split this into two or even three more parts than I thought, I don't know how it happened, I just got inspired and couldn't stop writing.
Once I got Park in, it was impossible not to include the rest of the cast, which brings me to an interesting point, as much as House may be right, his parents would leave the hospital angry if he spoke to them like he usually does.
I loved the movie "Waiting for Anya" and I'm kind of toying with the idea that Abe is both a variant of him, and a possible reincarnation.
I recently heard a song that describes the Abris very well "Camilo, Evaluna Montaner - Indigo (Letra)" although it's not exactly the tone I would put on it.
