Bruce Brown was lucky to be alive.

Bruce couldn't swim.

Unfortunately, in his first year at Hogwarts, he had fallen into the Black Lake after accidentally falling out of one the boats that took the first years across the Black Lake to Hogwarts Castle.

He quickly went underwater and was unable swim,

Very fortuitously, a girl who had been in the same boat had seen him fall. However, there wasn't time for her to go fetch a teacher. The situation was urgent, and the girl had no idea whether he could swim or not.

Not knowing whether she could swim herself, this girl chose to risk her life and lay herself on the line to try to rescue him and save his life.

Fortunately, the girl in question knew how to swim and got to Bruce in time to save his life.

Although both were sorted into Gryffindor, serious friendship between this girl and Bruce because their personalities and interests were just too different for them to maintain a friendship that didn't bore them both. Bruce was into sports, candy, and magic that required the use of a wand. The girl who had saved was interested in divination, magical creatures, (especially unicorns," and gossip. She was also fond of rabbits and hated foxes.

The girl who had saved his life on his very night at Hogwarts was named Lavender Binky.

Having survived his fall into the Black Lake and now being a Chaser for the BallyCstle Bats, Bruce was very content with his lot in adult life. He played his favorite position in his favorite sport for a living, and he was about to embark on the journey of fatherhood for the first time.

His daughter was due in five days, and he had yet to choose a name for her.

Bruce's attitude towards the process of selecting a name for his daughter had always been that he didn't want to do it too soon and regret his choice,

Now, with less than a week to go until his daughter was due to come into the world, Bruce was quietly sitting on a lavender colored lawn chair on his patio out back.

Bruce knew the moment had come to select a name for his daughter. He sat reflecting on his own life and how he had come to this point.

As he remembered his first night at Hogwarts, the lavender color of his lawn chair caught his attention, and he was struck with a sudden inspiration that he knew in his heart of hearts was the right thing to do.

Bruce felt a sudden warmth on all of his insides as he came to his conclusion.

"I'm going to name my daughter Lavender. She shall be called Lavender Brown," decided Bruce with his insides glowing hotter than the interior of the sun, "After all, it was a girl named Lavender who saved my life. Lavender was an eleven year girl who willingly laid herself on the line to save a stranger. That stranger was eleven year old me. What better way to pay tribute to her than to name my daughter after her?"

Bruce sat in his chair feeling more calm, content, and warm by the nanosecond.

After a while Bruce stood up and looked at his lavender colored lawn chair meaningfully.

The color of the chair represented Bruce's past and upcoming future.

"Lavender Binky saved my life when I was eleven," Bruce thought, "Now, my own daughter is going to Lavender Brown."
