Half an hour later, everyone had gathered at the southern gate.
"Come on, get to your positions, they can be here any minute!" said Zeek as some of the people climbed the wall while others grabbed close ranged weapons from a bunch of crates nearby.
"Clark!" yelled the scientist from the day before while running toward him with something in hand.
"What are you doing here, all non-combatants are supposed to be on lock down in the labs," said Clark.
"I had to bring you this, it's not a cure and still needs to be tested but this can help us to stop the walkers and end this if things start getting out of hand," said the scientist while handing over a case he had been holding.
"How so?" asked Clark.
"It kills them, I tested it last night on two of the test subjects and the second they were exposed they both dropped, turning into normal corpses," said the scientist.
"Arlight, but I'm only going to use it as a last resort since we don't know what will happen to humans with it," said Clark while taking the case.
"I understand," said the scientist before heading back to the safe zone.
"What was that all about?" asked Zeek while walking over.
"A potential new weapon," said Clark as he looked down at the case that was in his hand before.
"Suzie's approaching the gate!" said one of the people from above as they turned around while holding binoculars.
"Open it but be ready to close at any minute!" called Clark to the gate operators.
"Close it!" yelled Suzie after coming to a skidding stop inside the walls, sending some dust into the air along with some rocks.
"How far out are they?" asked Zeek.
"Not far, these things are bigger freaks than normal, I've never seen anything like them before," said Suzie.
"Mutants," said Clark and Zeek as they looked at each other for a minute before heading up the wall in order to get a better view of the horde.
"Dear God," said a girl as the horde came running over the hills in the distance.
"Can we actually beat this?" thought Clark as the realization of how many and how fast they were set in.
