Disclaimer: I own nothing but the oc character.
A young man sat in a spacious room staring off at nothing in particular, seemingly lost in thought. Despite how peace and serene everything looked. He knew that the world he lived in was a very cruel one.
Outworld was a very ruthless and unforgiving world where the strong reign supreme over the weak. The world has never known peace since the reign of the current emperor. Many evil deeds had been done under the rule of the emperor. Many lives lost in the name of conquest.
The emperor seemed obsessed with conquest. Nothing and nobody could stand in his way. All those who did were either dead or forced to become slaves. Many worlds have been conquered and fused together under his reign. While some respected him, others feared him. But there were some who hated him and wished to overthrow him.
He was a tyrant who ruled his people with an iron fist. Despite the fact that he had vast wealth and riches from conquering so many worlds and merging them with Outworld, his people still live in poverty.
While there were those in search of a greater life, a greater place, and higher purposes. Those whose ambitions and greed could not be sated. Those who had it all but still wished for more. he was not one of them.
He was already satisfied with his life. He didn't have it all but the little he had meant the world to him. He wanted nothing more.
Lost in thought he didn't notice a beautiful figure walking up behind him. The figure seemed to be mindful of her step as she made her way towards him.
"Are you leaving already?" A Melodic voice Sounded behind him, snapping him out of his thoughts.
Unconsciously, a charming smile found it way to the face of the man when he heard that melodic voice. He turned around to see a beautiful woman standing behind him. Her beauty was completely flawless and out of this world. Just the scent she gave off was enough to drive any man crazy.
Her beautiful smile bloomed on her beautiful face. Her naturally black hair with a red streak fell to her mid back. Her fair skin was unblemished and free of imperfection. Jade like eyes that seemed to charm all those who laid eyes on them. The scent she gave off was like roses, pleasant and alluring.
Despite her enchanting beauty, his eyes subconsciously wandered to the bump in her tunmy.
The woman smiled when she noticed this and reached out her hand to him which he took. She placed his hand on the small bump on her stomach, caressing it with his hand.
"Can you feel it?"
The man didn't reply at first but then he felt something kick against his hand startling him. With an overjoyed laugh he said. "Yes I can feel it. It's definitely going be a tough one when they come out?"
"Just like their father, koi" The woman laughed. Her laugh was so pulchritudinous, that it felt like it could melt the heart of the toughest man. Just listening to it was enough to calm any soul that heard it.
Her smile seemed to brighten up the whole room.
"But the child is definitely going to have your stubbornness, Kira" Koi smiled loving at his wife. The child is going to be the symbol of their love.
The two of them lived in a small village on the outskirt of Outworld, away from the war. He and Kira had known each other since they were kids, and have loved each other for a long time.
Everything they have ever known and loved was within the walls of this village. The both of them had always dreamt of seeing the outside world but never had the courage to do so. After all, the two of them were just ordinary people living ordinary lives. While the world outside was ruthless and merciless. They wouldn't last a few days out there.
However, In this wretched world, Kira was the greatest thing to ever happen to him. He cherish and love her with every fiber of his being. And he was certain that she felt the same way.
"What's with that look on your face?" Kira caressed her husband's cheek lovingly when she saw his expression suddenly turn sad.
"I just…" Koi looked at his wife unsure of what to say. After hesitating for a few seconds he looked her in the eyes and said with in a low voice. "Promise me that you will never leave my side"
He was scared for some reason. If something bad were to happen to her, he didn't know if he'd have the will to continue to live on.
Kira was surprised when she heard his words. However, after getting over her surprise, a small smile appeared on her face as she cupped his face in her hands. "Never, ever. I promise to remain by your side forever."
She could understand her husband's feelings perfectly well. She knew the way he thought and how fearful he was of losing a loved one. Since he never knew his parents. For an orphan there was nothing greater than family.
Koi smiled when he heard her words and gently embraced her in a hug. two couple were happily enjoying being in the other hand when they heard a know coming from the door.
"Hey kiddo, are you home?!"
A loud voice came from outside their door interrupting the two love birds.
Koi clicked his tongue when he heard the voice.
"You should get going" Kira grinned before lightly shoving him towards the door.
"Alright, alright" Koi sighed at his wife as if she was betraying him. With no other choice, he involuntarily opened the door to see a middle aged man standing at the doorway with a stern look on his face.
"Old man, you are here early"
"If I didn't come to get you, you'd never bother to come." The old man scoffed at him. Then he turned to look at Kira with a fatherly gaze, his attitude doing a complete 180. "Hey Kira, I hope this little runt isn't causing you any trouble?"
Koi shouted in protest while Kira laughed at the elder man who looked about to strangle her husband if she gave the command.
Koi had been raised by old man Giru since he was a kid. And since the old man was a very strict person he was always making sure that koi wasn't troubling anybody.
Moreover, ever since koi introduced her to him he has been overprotective of her, which made koi envious, though he'd never admit it.
But for some reason koi was completely afraid of the man, maybe because of he respected him and was afraid of making the old man angry.
Smiling, she looked at her husband who shook his head at her from behind the Giru. After all, Koi didn't know if his wife might use this opportunity to pull a mischievous prank on him. It wouldn't be the first time.
However, at this moment she felt a kick in her womb as if the child was begging it mother to spare it father.
Smiling, she said. "Not at all, he is actually very caring and obedient. You should have seen him"
"Is that so? Very well, we'll be going then" The old man grinned before dragging koi along with him out of the building while Kira waved then off.
After they left Kira also turned and walked deeper into the house to carry out whatever domestic chores needed to be done. Although her husband had asked her not to stress herself because of her pregnancy, she didn't feel comfortable idling around doing nothing.
"How is everything, kid? Is she eating well?" The old man bombarded him with different questions not long after they left the house.
"Everything is fine, jiji" Koi groaned. Sometime he wondered if the old man was the one who married Kira instead of him. His overprotectiveness was on another level.
Old man ken seems to notice this and realized that he had overstepped.
"Alright. Have thought of a name yet?"
"Not really " Koi sighed. His gaze staring at nothing in particular. There seemed to be a lot on his mind, something Giru noticed.
"What are you thinking about?"
Koi took in a deep breath and exhaled before turning to look at Giru with a serious expression. "I am afraid old man. I am afraid of this ongoing war that has been tearing apart our world. I'm just an ordinary farmer in a small village. What if something bad happen? I'm afraid I won't be able to protect Kira"
Just as Koi had said there was a war currently raging in Outworld with millions of people participating in it. Those who could no longer endure the emperor's tyranny finally rebelled causing the balance to break and plunge the whole Outworld into chaos.
He was afraid that they would be forced to participate in the war. As an ordinary person if he was sent to the battlefield, the only faith that awaited him was death. However, what scared him the most was the thought of something happening to his pregnant wife. He wasn't sure he'd be able to handle it.
"Well it practically has nothing to do with us, kid. Moreover, we live on the outskirt of Outworld. A place that the emperor has deemed not worth his time. Id' bet that he doesn't even know that there are people living here" Giru reassured.
Truthfully koi wasn't the only one with such worries. Almost all of the villagers were worried about their livelihood and their futures.
They were afraid of the emperor suddenly turning his sight on them. Or worst deeming them as a threat or a nuisance.
Like most of the denizen of this village, he has lived all of his life in this town. It was the only home he ever knew and he planned to die in it.
He had no big ambitions. But the greatest achievement and joy of his life was the day he found koi. And the years he spent raising him were the most happy moments of his life.
He had found Koi in a box beside the dead body of a young woman on this same farmland. The woman had scars all over her body, from small minor scars, to overly disturbing ones. She looked like someone who had gone through hell. And considering the situation their world was in, it wouldn't be a surprise if her village had been one of the villages attacked by the emperor's army during the siege.
However, even though she was dead, her arms were wrapped protectively around the box that housed a baby. The baby was wailing loudly, as if mourning the dead of his mother. His wails sounded all over the place.
If he had been even a few minutes late the baby would have either died from exposure to cold or became food for wild animals.
Because of the position he found the baby and his mother in, Giru decided to name the baby, koi, meaning love. Since he took him out of the loving embrace of his mother, who had sacrificed her life for the child she loved.
Therefore he swore that he would give koi the best life he could offer, in honor of his mother.
"Don't think useless thoughts. The emperor probably won't waste his time on minor characters like us" Giru laughed to lighten up the mood. But little did he know that their fate was soon to be doomed.
After managing to ease koi's worries, the two of them chatted casually until they finally reached the farmland.
In a large open farmland, dozens of farmers were harvesting crops. It was the harvest season in Outworld and they are doing it in preparation of the famine. Or more importantly the war.
"By the elder gods, why is it so hot today?" koi complained as he wiped the sweat of his brows. He understood that they were doing this so as to feed their families. But why do they have to do it under such an hot weather.
"Koi, quiet down" Giru whispered when he saw the other farmers attention on them.
Koi was about to say something but eventually decided to continue his work knowing that Giru would scold him badly if he complains too much.
Giru on the other hand knew how much koi hated manual labors but for once he was hoping he would do it without complaining.
"However, you are the only young man who doesn't mind doing this job despite the fact that you don't like it. You should be proud of the fact that you are so eager to not only help me but to feed your pregnant wife and the unborn child in her" Old man Giru praised with a smile as he pointed his sickle at koi. Though from others perspective, the action made it look more like a threat.
What koi didn't know was that the farmers respected him because he was the only young man on the farm.
Despite the fact that he usually complained about the work, he has never missed a single day since he became a farmer. However, what they didn't know was that Giru was the main reason why Koi could never miss a single day.
But one of his biggest qualities was that he always manages to draw people closer to him whether knowingly or unknowingly. Something that Kira had pointed out more times than she could count.
Koi blushed slightly when he heard the old man praising him before silently returning back to work.
After a Long day work on the farm, night had taken over and the farmers were packing to return home to their families when a man rushes into the farm with full speed like he was being chased by the emperor himself.
"Everyone… the village, our…our people.." The look on his face was as if he had witnessed the end of the world. He was so scared that the words refused to form properly.
"What is it?!" A farmer demanded startling the man. He was in no mood for pranks. His wife had promised to prepare a feast for him by the time he returned as today was his son's birthday.
The other farmers also expressed that anger causing the man to shrink back in fear. However, when he thought back to what he had saw, he steeled his resolve and shouted.
"The Village is under attack!"
Everyone fell silent as soon as they heard those words. Some even looked at the man as if he had lost his mind.
Was this some kind of a joke? The village is under attack? How is that possible? Some of the villagers were finding it hard to believe. After all, their village was so far from the next town that bandits couldn't even spare the expenses and time to raid them. Their village had even been spared from the tyranny of the emperor. So how could the village be under attack?
The man who had ran nonstop to deliver the news to them felt as if he was going to lose his mind when he saw them the look of contempt on their faces.
What's with that look on their faces? Did they think all of this was a joke?
Koi who briefly heard him shout from where he was, dropped the farm tools in his hands in horror. The village is under attack? What he feared the most had finally happened.
"Kira, Kira….. no, our baby, no!".
Not waiting to confirm whether the words spoken were true or not, koi sprinted back to the village like a speed demon.
"Koi!" Giru immediately ran after him. He didn't even spare the others any glance. Seeing the two of them running off without a second thought triggered a chain reaction and everyone hurriedly began running towards the village.
Whether the news was true or not doesn't matter. All they needed to do was to get to the village to confirm it themselves. After all, their families lived there.
The farmers ran like mad bulls towards the village. Seeing them finally moving into action the man who had come to deliver the news ran in the opposite direction shocking the farmers.
He had only come to deliver the news to the farmers since he was escaping in their direction. Whether he did it out of the goodwill of his heart or not doesn't matter. But with what he had seen, there was no way he was going back there.
Because the farmland wasn't close to the village it'd take them at least half an hour to get there.
Giru could barely keep up with koi as his old Body was weak and had lost it youthful energy. Just running hard out a huge strain on his muscles. He could only watched as Koi ran off like a mad man towards the village while silently praying that nothing had happened to the village
On getting to the village, he dropped all that he carried on the floor. Just before his eyes the village was in chaos, houses burning in a lake of fire, people running helter shelter. The worst part was that they were under attack by some strange looking creatures that had blade coming out of their forearms.
The scent of blood and smoke lingered heavily in the atmosphere.
What is this? Why is all of this happening? Koi couldn't believe his eyes at the sight before him. He felt a shiver down to his very soul. The village that he had known since he was baby was now blazing inferno. Unknown to koi, this was a scene that would hunt him for many nights to come.
The villagers that had manage to catch up to him were also flabbergasted. Their expressions that of horror and terror. Some of the weaker ones even directly emptied the content of their stomach
It was now that they understood why the man had been so scared that he directly ran away after delivering the news to them.
However, despite all this koi's legs never stopped moving, as he made his way towards his home while avoiding the attention of the monsters harvesting the lives of his people and wrecking havoc.
He saw many horrific sights. The bloody scene of people being eaten alive as they begged for mercy. Women and children were not spared either. Their heartbreaking cries for help broke koi's heart.
All around him was the stench of coal and burning flesh. The scent of burning flesh was nauseating.
The once dirt filled ground was now covered in blood. So much so that everywhere he stepped, there was blood.
He froze when he saw the dead body of a child with it head split in half. On the ground in front of the child was the dismantled and an half eaten, corpse of who he assumed to be the child's mother. The only thing left of her facial features are the long strands of hair covered din blood scattered on the ground. The rest of her face was gone, even her skull had been shatter to pieces along with brain matters.
Although he had seen a lot of dead bodies on the way. Just the cruelty of the way this two had been killed made him nauseous since he was familiar with the child.
The smiling face of the now dead child appeared in his mind like a ghost.
This…why is all of this happening?
With a shattered and disoriented mind, Koi finally got to his house. But the sight of the house in front of him was completely different from the way he left it. The house was wrecked and looked like it was barely holding on. He could even see blood stains on the floor and wall of the building.
Koi's heart skipped a beat at the sight. Despite the evidence saying otherwise he refused to believe that something had happened to Kira. Even then, he didn't have the will to walk into the room for fear of the unknown.
However, he was determined to find his wife, if even it meant finding her dead body. Steeling his resolve he rushed into the building, searching everywhere, hoping for the best while calling out her name.
"Kira! Kira! Kira!….. where are you?!"
Not matter how heard he tried he couldn't find a trace of her. All he could see was blood stains. Just when he was about to despair, he heard someone call out his name from outside the house.
'Kira?'
Koi rushed out immediately only stumble into the old man Giru who was about to enter the house.
The old man looked disheveled and out of breathe. His expression was that of someone who had just witnessed the horrors of this world.
Sweats and dirt covered his face. However, he was more worried about something else.
"Did you find her? where is she? Giru asked Koi with worry and anxiety.
He had seen a lot of dead bodies on the streets as he made his way to the house. Bodies of people he was familiar with. The ground of the street painted red with their bloods.
The loud excruciating screams of people dying couldn't be ignored, it was like they had suddenly descended into the chaos realm.
No matter how the people begged or pleaded for their lives, the heart of the monsters never wavered as their swords thirsted for blood
It was a ruthless massacre.
Koi walked to him with bloodshot eyes filled with tears
"I have to find her, I have to" Koi muttered as he tries to leave. But Giru immediately dragged him back.
"You have to stay calm, Koi. We'll find her"
He knew how worried koi was, hell, even he couldn't keep his calm. After all, this was his wife and unborn child they were talking. No sane man would be able to keep calm.
But with what he had seen out there, Koi would only be going out there to die.
On his way here he had to turn a blind eye to many peoples suffering. He remembered vividly the look of betrayal on their faces as he blatantly abandoned them to their faith.
He would never forget those looks for as long as he lived. That was if he somehow managed to survive this.
However before either of them had any chance to say anything more they heard a loud voice calling out to them in the distance.
"Koi, koi!… old man"
That will be all for chapter one. Please support me by follow, favorite and review.
I appreciate it all.
