Brian O'Conner adjusted his grip on the steering wheel and glanced in the rearview mirror, checking on Bunny, his loyal Cane Corso, who sat patiently in the backseat. Nine months of pregnancy weighed on him heavily now, and each bump in the road felt like a jolt through his entire body. To top it off, his Skyline—a car that was usually a dream to drive—had been giving him trouble for weeks. He'd tried to fix it himself, but lately, just getting in and out of the car was a task on its own.
With a sigh, he pulled into the small auto shop owned by the Toretto family. He trusted them to take care of his car, even if it meant swallowing his pride and asking for help.
He reached for his cane on the passenger seat, bracing himself for the struggle to get out of the car. After a deep breath, he opened the back door, letting Bunny hop out. She stood close, her black leather harness and rigid counter-balance handle steady beside him, ready to help.
Almost as if on cue, two figures appeared in the shop's doorway—Dom Toretto and Vince. Dom took in the sight of Brian and Bunny, one eyebrow raised.
"Hey there," Dom greeted. "Can we help you with something?"
Brian managed a small smile, shifting uncomfortably. "Yeah, I, uh…I need someone to take a look at my car. It's acting up. Again."
Vince glanced over his shoulder and yelled into the shop, "Letty! Leon! Jesse! Get out here!"
Dom nodded, motioning for Brian to come inside. "We got time. Come on in."
Brian let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "Thanks. I'm Brian, by the way."
Letty, the only woman in the group, approached, her gaze flickering between Brian and Bunny. She offered a welcoming smile and gestured to a chair. "You can sit down if you want. Looks like you could use it."
Brian chuckled softly, easing himself into the seat with a groan. "Thanks. Yeah…this little one's making sure I don't forget he's there." He patted his belly, flashing a tired grin as Bunny settled at his feet, watching everyone around them.
Vince took a seat across from Brian, leaning back and crossing his arms. "Alright, so what's going on with your car?"
Brian leaned back, rubbing a hand over his belly. "It's a '99 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R. Normally, she runs like a dream. But lately, she's been…finicky. Starts fine some days, then others, I can barely get her to crank. Idling rough, too, and I think there might be a misfire in one of the cylinders."
Jesse's face lit up with interest as he joined them. "Misfire, huh? You think it's a spark plug issue?"
Brian nodded, relieved to be understood. "That's what I thought at first. But I've checked the plugs, even tried swapping them out. Still acts up. Might be a fuel injector problem too. I just…I haven't been able to get under the hood like I used to." He gave a self-conscious shrug, patting his stomach.
Dom let out a low chuckle. "Yeah, I'd say you got your hands full."
Brian grinned, rolling his eyes. "Tell me about it. Normally, I'd handle it myself, but right now…" He shook his head, sighing. "This little guy's calling the shots."
Vince chuckled, shaking his head. "Don't worry, man. We get it. You've got enough going on."
Dom rested a hand on Brian's shoulder. "We'll get her back to purring like she should. You just take it easy. And," he glanced down at Bunny, "looks like you've got some backup."
Brian's eyes softened as he looked at Bunny. "Yeah. She's my rock."
As they shared a few more friendly words, Letty and Jesse made their way outside, already discussing possible fixes. Brian felt a wave of relief wash over him, hearing the familiar clink of tools and hushed voices as they got to work on his Skyline. He settled back into the chair, letting his eyes close for just a moment, grateful that he didn't have to do this alone today.
