This version of Komand'r, a.k.a. Blackfire, mixes elements of her original version, especially her tragic backstory from Marv Wolfman's and George Pérez' run on the New Teen Titans comic book title, with her nicer traits from the New 52 version (mainly from the Red Hood and the Outlaws title), as well as adding new elements and introducing new characters.

The story also serves as an introduction of Starfire's origin and connection to the Titans, also showing the Alterverse version of the Omega Men, featuring Kom's and Kory's younger brother Ryand'r a.k.a. Blackfire, as part of the team.

The complicated connection between the Vega system (where the protagonist's homeworld Tamaran is located) and the Green Lantern Corps is borrowed from Geoff John's stories in his run on the Green Lantern title.
