And now we go to a world where humans and ghosts co-exist… sort of.
I feel like this could've been an episode of the show had Season 3 not been axed… or at least something similar.
This takes some time before the last two episodes of the series.
Enjoy!
In the city of Brighton, the people were going about their day. It was a sunny day for them all. And the town indeed needed it given how it was usually a drowsy town.
"Morning Patty!" Mrs. Roop called from her and her wife's car.
"Top of the morning to you too!" Patty called back.
"Hey, nice haircut, Mrs. Stein-Torres!" Bobby called to said owner of her bookstore.
"Why thanks! It's a new style!" Leah said back.
Sora walked along the town amongst the people as he faced the readers.
"The town of Brighton, usually known as the opposite of its name. Usually a dull and gray town. And that's usually thanks to the work of ghosts, trying to make the town full of misery to please the Ghost Council and their chairman. At least until the McGee family came about. And the oldest daughter in the family, Molly, has often tried to help make the town a brighter place, alongside her friends and family, including a grumpy ghost named Scratch. Only a select few associated with the McGee family know that ghosts really exist. But one day, another was about to learn the truth as well."
The McGee family home had company over in the form of Libby, Ollie, and June. They, along with Molly, Scratch, and Daryl were getting ready for a movie marathon.
"Now this is what marathons are all about!" Molly said happily, bringing Libby and Scratch into a tight hug.
"Hey, watch it!" Scratch yelled.
"Good friends, good food, and 8 hours of non-stop entertainment!" Molly said happily.
"I'm just happy to be included." Libby smiled.
Daryl and the Chens walked in with snacks.
"Alright, we got popcorn, chips, and pretzels." June announced.
"And I called in some favors and got all the stuff we need for pretzel seasoning," said Daryl. "Salt, cinnamon, mustard, authentic kinds the rich people have."
"Rich people pretzel seasoning is not a thing." Molly scoffed.
"You say that, but you'd be surprised the kind of things rich people have compared to normal stuff." said Daryl.
"Alright, so when do we get this marathon on the road?!" Scratch demanded. "I could die again… but this time from starvation!"
"We just gotta wait for Andrea to arrive." Molly replied. "She's just getting a ride now."
"Sorry you gotta go invisible for the marathon." Ollie apologized to Scratch.
"Relax kid, I've had to go invisible whenever there's a good movie worth my while and I snag snacks from others for my own satisfaction." Scratch said dismissively.
"So how long until the Davenport girl gets here?" asked June.
"Hopefully not too much longer." Molly said, looking at her wristwatch.
City Hall:
The Davenports arrived at City Hall where Mayor Brunson was waiting.
"Welcome Davenport family! I hope you are ready for your meeting." Brunson politely greeted.
"The pleasure is all ours, Mr. Mayor." said Maxwell Davenport.
"I hope we can discuss a wonderful business agreement so we can get our store back up to speed again." said Dorothea Davenport.
"Especially those that keep us trending." Maxwell added with a knowing grin.
"Uh, yes! Whatever you say..." Brunson managed to say.
Andrea came up to her parents. "Mom? Daddy? Can I please go to the McGee's now?" she asked. "I know where you'll be and you'll know where I'll be."
"Yes, yes, you can go now Button." Maxwell replied as he and his wife followed the mayor to his office.
"We'll let you know when we're done here." said Dorothea.
"Great! See you later!" Andrea beamed as she walked away,
She took out her phone and began to text.
"On my way now Molly! See you soon! #Strolling, #Movie, #Popcorn!" she said while texting.
Down the street, a portal from the ghost world opened up and Geoff and Jeff floated out.
"Ah just take in the wonderful scenery that is Brighton, am I right, Jeff?" Geoff asked.
"It sure is a sight to behold." Jeff said in agreement. "It's gotten more livelier since the McGee's showed up."
"Oh yeah! My good friend Scratch is really lucky to have them in his afterlife!" Geoff commented.
Suddenly, Andrea rounded the corner on the sidewalk.
"Hey Fundreas! I'm on my way to my best friend Molly McGee's house for an eight hour movie marathon!" she said to her followers. "So this totally beats my usual six hour one I usually do during sleepovers - including ones with you, Alina my love! (giggles) But this should be fun-"
But then the next thing Andrea knew, she went through the ghost portal… and came out a pink wraith ghost floating in the air. Her soulless husk fell over.
"Whoa! Sudden head rush!" she exclaimed before looking back at her phone. "So I don't know what just happened-"
Andrea cut herself off when she saw herself on her phone and screamed.
"GAH! WHAT HAPPENED TO ME?!" she shrieked in terror. "I LOOK HIDEOUS!"
Andrea screamed and flew around in panic.
Geoff and Jeff had seen this and were shocked.
"Uh Geoff… did you forget to close the portal to the ghost world?" asked Jeff.
"Oh whoops! I knew I was forgetting something!" Geoff chuckled.
Andrea was still flying around scared. "HELP! I'M A GHOST!" she yelled.
Without thinking, she somehow managed to open a portal to the ghost world and went through it before it closed behind her.
Andrea's body got up with a glum expression on her face. "Uh… I don't care…" she said dully.
Geoff and Jeff paled and looked at each other.
"We gotta find Scratch and his friends." they said in unison.
McGee House:
The kids and ghost were still waiting for Andrea.
"What's taking her so long?!" Scratch groaned. "At this rate I'll eat all the concessions we have for this marathon!"
"Patience Scratch, maybe she got distracted promoting herself online." suggested Ollie.
"Wouldn't be the first time." Daryl snarked.
In the kitchen, Pete was cooking and Sharon was doing the dishes when Geoff and Jeff phased through the window.
"HEY MCGEE FAMILY!" Geoff shouted.
The parents yelped in alarm.
"OH GOOD GOLLY MISS DOLLY!" Pete yelled as he crashed into the fridge, getting coated in Almond Milk.
Sharon clutched her fast-beating heart. "Geoff, what did we say about bursting in here?!" she exclaimed.
Jeff flew up beside his love. "Apologies, Mrs. McGee. We just have a bit of a situation." he said. "Geoff, come on."
The two ghosts flew into the living room.
"Hey it's Geoff and Jeff!" said Daryl.
"Oh great! More company." Scratch grunted. "What do you two want?"
"We have a situation!" said Geoff. "You know that rich girl you all know? Ann-drea?"
"Uh, actually, it's pronounced Aun-drea." Libby corrected.
"Oh yeah!" Geoff nodded. "She's a wraith now!"
The kids and Scratch spat out their drinks in alarm.
"A WRAITH!?" Molly and Libby cried in unison.
"You mean she walked through a portal to the ghost world?!" Scratch exclaimed.
"Yeah and now she's in the ghost world probably scared out of her mind!" said Jeff.
"Oh boy, this is bad!" said Ollie, worried.
"Wait, if Andrea's a wraith, where's her body?" asked June.
At that moment, the front door opened and there stood Andrea's soulless body.
"I don't care." she said as she fell over.
"Found it!" Daryl called.
Libby dragged soulless Andrea over to the couch and laid her down.
"Guys, we have to find her!" Molly said in concern. "If she's in the ghost world, she could get lost and be in danger!"
"Not to mention she will now know ghosts really exist!" added Libby. "And not special effects like she thought during our movie and Halloween!"
"And worst of all… Jinx!" added Scratch. "She's still in it for Molly and me, maybe even all of us!"
"And if she doesn't kill us, Andrea's parents probably will when they find out." Daryl added.
"Daryl!" everyone shouted in annoyance.
"IF. IF they find out." Daryl quickly corrected.
"Ghost Friends, we have a mission to do!" Molly declared, putting her hand out. "Hands in!"
One by one, Scratch, Daryl, Libby, Ollie, and June put their hands in before raising them.
"Let's go!" they said in unison.
Scratch opened up a portal and sent it over the five kids, turning them into wraiths as their bodies fell to the ground. They looked at themselves, impressed.
"Been a while since I've been a wraith!" said Molly.
"Same here!" said Daryl.
"This is gonna get some getting used to…" said Ollie.
"I dunno, it is pretty cool flying." said June, floating around a bit.
"I am both fascinated and terrified at the same time!" said Libby.
"Mom, Dad, we're gonna go save Andrea from the ghost world!" said Molly. "Keep an eye on our bodies for us, okay!"
Sharon and Pete looked over at the six soulless bodies. "I don't care." they all mumbled.
"Uh… we'll do our best." Sharon awkwardly replied.
"And I thought the rats living behind Weird Larry's store were creepy." muttered Pete.
"Just be careful!" said Sharon.
"Don't worry Mr. and Mrs. McGee, we'll keep your kids safe!" promised Geoff.
"You got the Chairman's honor!" added Scratch.
Sharon and Pete looked uneasy as Jeff floated up to them. "I'll keep an eye on them all." he promised.
"Well that satisfies my worry." said Pete.
Scratch opened up a portal to the ghost world and he, Geoff, Jeff, and the kids flew through before it closed behind them.
Ghost World:
Meanwhile, Andrea had found herself in the ghost world. She looked around at her surroundings in shock, confusion, and fright.
"Wh-Where am I…? What is this place?!" she asked.
She then spotted ghosts flying around her.
"Did you see who's just joined our world?" a male ghost asked, showing the obituary section to a female one.
"Oh I knew her back when I was alive!" the female one said, pointing at a picture.
"Coming through! Out of date items are half off!" a fancy female ghost called as she shoved past two more.
"Hey, watch it!"/"Watch where you're flyin'!" they said at the same time in annoyance.
"What are these things?!" Andrea gasped, floating backwards before running into someone.
It was Blair. "Hey, watch it!" she snapped. "I'm holding copies of rental movies from the shut down store here!"
"Sorry! Where am I?!" Andrea cried.
"The afterlife, silly! Well, the ghost world, actually." Blair laughed. "Ooh, did you die young too? You look pretty young to be a ghost."
Andrea felt her throat run dry. "Die? Ghost? AFTERLIFE?!" Andrea gasped as she began to fly around in a panic. "Why am I here?!" she yelled.
She accidentally bumped into Howlin' Harriet. She turned around and screeched loudly as she morphed into her spookier appearance.
Andrea screamed as she flew off in fright.
Harriet morphed back to normal. "Sorry! Force of habit!" she called.
Andrea flew around the ghost world in terror. "Ghost world, ghost world, why am I here?! Am I dead?! WHAT IS GOING ON?!" she yelled.
Andrea flew over Sonia Davis as she was skating on a hockey rink, nearly making her fall over.
"Hey! I am trying to skate here!" she yelled, shaking her fist.
"Sorry!" Andrea yelled as she phased into a ghost hospital.
The doctor that treated Scratch was looking over a patient. "So the cure you need to scare again is to know what it's like to be scared." she told him.
Andrea suddenly phased through the room screaming, startling both the doctor and patient, the latter screaming his head off… like a little girl.
"See, there you go!" the doctor grinned.
Andrea then flew down and ran into a ghost bear, the same one Sally Tugbottom befriended. Said founder of Brighton was on top of him chatting with Pango.
Andrea looked up and saw the ghost bear growling at her.
"GHOST BEAR!" Andrea screamed at the top of her lungs.
She then flew off in a fright.
"Hey, what did we say about scaring others around here?!" Sally scolded her bear friend.
The bear subsided, ashamed.
"Did that ghost look too young to you?" Sally asked Pango.
"Hard to tell, I was wincing from her screaming that can put a banshee to shame." said Pango, uncovering her ears.
All over the ghost world, Andrea was freaking out. Her fright was increasing so much that every time she encountered a ghost, they looked more spooky from her perspective. Blank eyes, squiggly mouths, and moaning and groaning as she past them.
"THIS PLACE IS FREAKING ME OUT!" she cried. "SOMEONE PLEASE GET ME OUTTA HERE!"
Unbeknownst to her, someone had been watching her.
Jinx had been using some out-of-date fortune telling items in her lair. One of them was a crystal ball. And she was using it to spy on her.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" she mused. "It looks like that rich girl from the human world is here. Hmm… but why is she here in the first place? I bet Scratch had something to do with it."
She levitated a dart into a crudely drawn picture of Scratch, joining 12 more darts, making it unlucky 13 for Scratch, but lucky for her.
"Perhaps I can use this to my advantage…" Jinx said with a wicked smirk. "An advantage to finally become chairman… the chairman the the ghost world needs… and frankly, truly deserves after the previous one was unfairly destroyed…"
Downtown, Scratch, Geoff, and Jeff led Molly, Daryl, Libby, Ollie, and June down the street.
"Been a while since I've been here." said Molly.
"So this is where you all hang out after death?" asked June.
"Pretty much." Geoff replied. "But you get used to it! You get to meet people that you've only seen on TV or dusty old books!"
"Yeah! There's the mayor's ancestors!" said Molly.
Said four ghosts floated by and waved to Molly. "Greetings, Former Mayor Molly McGee!" the quartet of Brunson ancestors said in unison.
"Oh my goodness, Sally Tugbottom!" Libby gasped as said ghost came by with her bear.
"Brighton's founder?!" Ollie said in awe.
"Aw, nice to know I have fans." Sally smiled.
"Hey Sally! Scratch the Ghost, Chairman. Have you seen a ghost girl around here with long hair, possibly terrified and confused out of her mind?" Scratch asked.
"Funny you should say that. I saw her an hour ago." Sally replied, pointing south. "She went that way."
The bear roared in agreement.
"Thanks a lot!" Jeff said as they all continued on their way.
"Look at all the ghosts!" said Daryl.
"There's Abraham Lincoln!" said June, said former president playing piano in a dance club.
"And there's Amelia Earhart!" said Ollie, said ghost flying a plane.
"Is that a ghost dog?!" Daryl asked in surprise, seeing said ghost chase its tail in the air.
"Yep! So many ghosts you may be familiar and unfamiliar with!" said Geoff.
"This is something I can get used to as a wraith ghost!" said Daryl as he flew around overhead. He then saw a group of ghosts and got a devious idea.
Daryl discreetly flew up behind the group of ghosts.
"Did you see what was out of style in the living world but in style here in the clothing department?" one said.
"Oh I did!" said another. "I never thought-"
"BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Daryl suddenly yelled, morphing into a terrifying ghost with a menacing face.
The ghost yelled and screamed as they flew around in all directions.
Daryl burst out laughing as he floated back down towards his sister and their friends.
"Oh man, that was fun!" Daryl giggled.
"Daryl! Focus!" Molly scolded.
"Yeah!" Scratch said before whispering to the younger McGee wraith, "Although that was a good scare."
The two snickered.
"Come on, let's cover more ground across the land!" said Libby.
"We'll meet up by the club in 90 minutes." June added.
"Ready, BREAK!" the ghosts and wrists said in unison as they scattered across the ghost world.
Meanwhile, Andrea was flying around, still terrified.
"Okay, okay, try and keep calm Andrea… you like ghosts… at least the cute and cuddly ones, not these scary, grotesque ones…" she muttered. "Oh god how did I end up here!? I didn't die!… Did I?"
Andrea then flew up and looked around at her surroundings.
"Ugh! I don't even know where I am!" she groaned. "I don't have my phone, I'm lost in the afterlife somehow…!"
She then saw her reflection in a glass window.
"Ooh, but I am pulling off the ghost look!" she mused, looking herself over. "I make this ghostly color work!"
"You sure are!"
Andrea yelped as she looked behind her and saw Jinx fly up to her, a sly smile on her face.
"Oh, so sorry to startle you my dear, but you aren't supposed to be here." Jinx said with faux concern. "You're a long way from home… aren't you?"
"Uh, y-yes I am…" Andrea said nervously. "Uh, who are you?"
Jinx giggled with a slight sinister tone. "Oh how rude of me! The name's Jinx, the true leader of this world, even if fellow ghosts and ghouls can't see that." she said.
"You're in charge?" Andrea asked. "Wait, do you think… you can get me home?" she asked with a hopeful tone.
Jinx rubbed her fingers casually. "Oh honey, I can." she said.
Andrea gasped hopefully.
"But I won't. At least… not yet."
Andrea frowned. "What do you mean by that?" she asked.
"What I mean dear… is that you're not going home." Jinx replied as she inched closer to the wraith. "At least not until I'm through with you…"
Andrea was now scared. "What do you want with me?" she asked.
Jinx smirked sinisterly. "What I want… is leverage." she replied. "And you're going to help me get it!"
Andrea began to back away. "I-I am not giving you anything!" she yelled, trying to sound serious.
"I thought you might say that…" Jinx said mysteriously. "SOBGOBLINS!"
Suddenly, a bunch of Sobgoblins came floating out from behind Jinx and then restrained Andrea.
"H-Hey!" she cried. "What are you doing?!"
"You, my little rich friend, are just the key I need to become the true chairman of the ghost world…" Jinx said with a wicked grin.
Meanwhile, the group of friends were searching high and low for Andrea across the ghost world.
"Andrea?!" Molly called as she searched a ghost spa, ghosts with cucumbers on their eyes looking at her.
"Andrea, you here?!" Daryl called as he burst out of a potted plant in a waiting room, getting looks from the workers and those waiting.
"Andrea, we're here to rescue you!" said Ollie, popping his head through a window of a ghost salon. He was suddenly yanked from the window and put in a hair-styling chair. "Oh man, my do!" he groaned.
"Miss Davenport, we've come to your aid!" said June as she phased through a library.
"SHHHH!" the ghosts reading and/or working shushed.
"Many apologies." June sheepishly apologized.
"Andrea?! Can you hear me?!" Libby called as she phased through a ghost hospital. "I am here to save you from this terrifying and fascinating place!"
"Hey, it's helping us feel better!" a ghost patient said, annoyed.
"Oh, I was not referring to this place, in fact this hospital is quite the attraction-" Libby tried to apologize before a ghost nurse pushed her out.
"If you don't have an appointment, don't wander in here!" she said as she shoved Libby out the door.
"Hey rich Davenport girl, you here?!" Geoff called as he and Jeff searched an old opera house.
"What makes you think she's here?" Jeff asked his love.
"Rich people attend the opera, don't they?" Geoff replied.
They looked around the audience trying to find Andrea, but to no avail.
"I guess she's not here." Geoff said sadly.
At that moment, a female ghost wearing a viking helmet and holding an axe hit a high note so loud it launched Geoff and Jeff through the ceiling and back out into the ghost world.
Scratch burst into a dancing club. "Andrea! Andrea, are you in here?!"
He floated amongst the ghosts dancing and having a good time. "Andrea, where you? You here? Come on out! You dancing-?"
He bumped into another ghost.
"Hey watch it-HEY GUYS!" Scratch was about to say in annoyance which quickly shifted to a nervous one when he saw that the ghost he bumped into was Grimbella, who was with the rest of the Ghost Council.
"Ah, Chairman Scratch, what a surprise to see you." Sir Alister said with a flat expression.
"Trying to 'kill it up on the dancefloor' again?" queried Grimbella.
"Uh, no, I-uh, was just, uh… looking around!" Scratch said with a nervous grin.
"From your tone and expression, you sound as though you did something wrong." Bartholomew drawled.
"Whaaaaat?! No, no way!" Scratch quickly said dismissively. "I for sure didn't do anything wrong! I'm certainly not looking for a human girl who became a wraith by mistake!"
The Ghost Council each raised eyebrows.
"That is an extremely specific thing you're not doing." said Lucretia.
"Much like your regular paperwork." Bartholomew added. "Which we hope to see very soon."
Scratch deadpanned at them. "You know, your four really take out the excitement in being the most powerful ghost of the afterlife." he muttered.
"As we do." Sir Alister smirked.
The group of friends met up by Boo! Buster.
"There's no sign of her anywhere!" groaned Molly. "I asked President Lincoln if he saw her, and he said no. Man, he cannot tell a lie…"
"None of the kings or queens saw her either." Libby sighed.
"I ended up finding a ghost pound for dogs." said Daryl. "When I asked if they saw Andrea, they chased me all the way to the K-Chart store barking like mad."
"Oh what's the point!?" groaned Scratch. "Andrea's lost, her parents are gonna flip when they find out she disappeared, I can't even be a good chairman and bring someone who's not supposed to be here back home to safety!"
Suddenly, the TVs inside the store flickered behind them. And Jinx's face appeared.
"Well well well, looks like someone's doing a lousy job of being chairman!" she sing-songed.
"Jinx!" Molly, Scratch, Geoff, and Jeff gasped.
"The bad luck-giving ghost?!" Libby asked in shock.
"Oh so you told them about me! How lovely!" Jinx said with faux-happiness.
"What do you want, Jinx?!" demanded Molly.
"I'd watch that uncharacteristic temper, Miss McGee." Jinx warned. "Unless you don't wanna see your friend again."
Jinx moved to the side to reveal a terrified Andrea restrained by several sobgoblins.
The group gasped in horror.
"Andrea!" Molly, Libby, Daryl, Ollie, and June cried.
"Jinx, release her right now!" Scratch demanded. "She doesn't belong here!"
"Sorry Scratch, you may be the chairman of the afterlife, but you're not the chairman of me!" Jinx retorted. "Besides, you said it yourself, Little Rich Ghost doesn't belong here. But I'm a wagering ghoul…"
"What do you want, Jinx?" Scratch scowled.
"Oh ho ho, you know what I want." Jinx said with a wicked smirk. "To be the proper, real chairman! Meet me by the alleyway near the building Pango teaches class at. Think about it if you ever wanna see your friend again…"
And then the TV's cut off.
"Andrea's a hostage!" Libby said in horror.
"This just got worse times 100!" exclaimed Ollie.
"What do we do?!" asked Geoff.
Molly was determined. "We have to rescue her! Jinx is not gonna get away with this!" she said.
"Yeah, Andrea doesn't deserve to suffer after all she's been through!" Daryl said in agreement.
"We're her only hope." nodded Jeff.
"Alright, a rescue situation! I don't like danger like that, but I am not gonna let that bad luck cursing, narcissistic, grudge-holding sociopath of a poltergeist hold Andrea hostage, and worst of all, pin this on me to make me look like a bad chairman!" Scratch declared.
Everyone gave him a look.
"What? Yeah, saving the former rich snob is important, but hey, reputation's all I got around these parts, y'know?" Scratch defended.
"If we're gonna rescue Andrea, we need a plan." said June.
"Anyone got a plan in mind?" Jeff asked around.
"I got one in mind." Libby said.
"Alright, lay it on us, bestie!" Molly beamed.
The ghosts and wraiths gathered around to hear what the tall wraith had to say.
Meanwhile, Jinx was waiting around for Scratch to arrive while the sobgoblins still held Andrea hostage.
"Why are you doing this to me!? I didn't do anything to you!" Andrea wailed.
"Well, for one thing, you ending up here was your own fault since you weren't watching where you were going." Jinx muttered. "But for another, you're the key I need to become the ruler of this afterlife!"
"Andrea Davenport is no one's 'key' to anything!" Andrea scowled.
"Well too bad, so sad, you are now." Jinx smirked. "Once Scratch comes here with those other meddling fools, he'll have no choice but to hand me the position. And when I become Chairman… I will unleash misery all over Brighton!"
"You won't get away with this!" Andrea snapped, trying to break free, but the sobgoblins held her back.
"Oh my poor little prisoner… I already have." Jinx said with a wicked grin. "It's only a matter of time before-"
"JINX!"
Without even flinching, Jinx turned around and saw Scratch, donning his chairman cloak.
"So you decided to actually show up." Jinx mused. "I'll admit, a part of me was thinking you'd chicken out and run away… but in the end, I'm glad you're here…"
"Random ghost in the tactless coat, help me!" Andrea cried.
"Hush, brat!" Jinx hissed.
"Jinx, you will release Miss Davenport from your sobgoblin clutch or you will face the wrath of the Chairman of the Ghost World!" Scratch ordered.
Jinx cackled in amusement. "You're no chairman, Scratch." she said. "I'm not afraid of you. You know what I am capable of."
"Uh, right! But I'm not scared of you either!" Scratch said, still trying to sound bold.
What Jinx didn't notice was that Molly, Libby, Daryl, Ollie, June, Geoff, and Jeff fly through the buildings the alley was in between.
"Oh, but you should be… because I have the higher advantage." Jinx said, referring to the sobgoblins. "And if you remember how my powers go, you'd think twice about trying to fight me." Jinx said.
Several ghostly hands appeared from the buildings and snatched several of the sobgoblins that weren't restraining Andrea, said minions of Jinx not noticing as they were too busy making sure she didn't escape. But the rich wraith did.
"What the what…?" she said in surprise.
"Well, yes, that is a good point. I would be a fool to underestimate you, Jinx." Scratch said.
Jinx grinned. "That's right! Now make this easier for the both of us, and hand over the clock of the chairman." she said, holding her hands out.
Scratch removed the cloak and Jinx was about to grab it when he snatched it away.
"But counterpoint!" Scratch said. "I do know what you're capable of… but you don't know what I'm truly capable of… and that's having good friends by my side!"
"Like they can do anything against me!" Jinx scoffed.
"Oh I beg to differ." Scratch smirked.
"The jig is up, Jinx!"
Jinx yelped when a bunch of tied-up sobgoblins landed in front of her.
The wraiths and ghosts emerged between her and Andrea. It had been Molly who spoke.
"Now hand over Andrea from her unfair capture!" Molly ordered.
"Molly?!" Andrea gasped in shock.
"Heeeeeeeeeeeey, Andrea." Molly said nervously.
"Nice to see you safe, Andrea!... sort of…" Libby greeted nervously.
"What's going on, why are you ghosts?!" asked Andrea.
"Technically, a bunch of us are wraiths… aside from Scratch, Geoff, and Jeff." replied June.
"Yeah, we died regularly!" said Geoff.
"It's over, Jinx!" Scratch said. "You only have two sobgoblins left!"
"Now let our friend go!" said Libby.
"We can do this the easy way, or the hard way!" said Daryl.
Jinx was silent, for a moment. "Well, I must admit, I wasn't planning on a sneak attack being on my radar." she reluctantly admitted.
"It was Libby's smart idea." Geoff chimed in.
"Aw shucks…" Libby said modestly.
"But in all honesty…" Jinx suddenly smirked as she snapped her fingers.
At that moment, a bunch more sobgoblins appeared from all directions, one untying the captive ones.
"I'm always prepared, Scratch." Jinx boasted.
"Whoa boy, that's a lot of sobgoblins!" June gasped.
"Not more of them!" cried Andrea.
"Don't worry, Andrea! We can take them!" said Scratch.
"ATTACK!" Jinx shouted.
The sobgoblins charged at the Ghost Friends, who likewise charged back.
Molly punched one sobgoblin in the face and then backhanded another in the eye. Daryl socked another in the jaw before he grabbed a roof shingle and smacked it into another. Scratch stretched one out like taffy and tossed it. Geoff and Jeff slammed themselves into three, squishing them. Libby ducked from some flying above her and when flying up to dodge more, she accidentally punched two in the face. Ollie tried to punch another sobgoblin, but kept missing as two snatched him up, only for June to yanked them back by their backs and slam them into the wall.
"Keep it up, I think we got them!" said Scratch, shoving two sobgoblins into a window, shattering the glass.
"Oh you don't!" Jinx smirked as she snapped her fingers.
At that moment, pieces of the buildings began to strike the ghosts and wraiths… and only them.
"Agh! What's happening!?" exclaimed Libby.
"Jinx is using bad luck!" Molly yelled as a roof tile smacked her into the ground.
A window exploded against Geoff, pinning him to the wall.
"Ah! I've been glassed!" he cried.
"Geoff!" Jeff cried as he went to free his love.
"Hey, leave them alone!" Andrea cried as Jinx sent a dumpster rolling into Ollie and June. She tried to free herself, but the sobgoblins held her back.
"Pipe down, Human!" Jinx hissed.
"Come on everyone, start scaring like a ghost!" Scratch yelled as he fended off more sobgoblins.
Daryl howled loudly with a morphed face, frightening the sobgoblins.
June and Ollie stood back to back and booed loudly at eight sobgoblins with morphed faces, making them scamper away.
After freeing Geoff, Jeff flew at two sobgoblins and howled with a morphed face, scaring more sobgoblins. Geoff then flew above him and booed louder, scaring them into fleeing.
Scratch managed to morph himself in the cloak to look more menacing as he booed at more sobgoblins. They screamed as they scrambled to get away.
Molly wanted to boo loudly, but too many sobgoblins attacked her at once, forcing her to punch and throw them out of her way.
"GAH! STOP YOUR AMBUSHING!" Molly screamed in annoyance.
A burst of light suddenly shot out from her, knocking the sobgoblins away. Molly smirked and looked at three more who were terrified of her joy.
"Boo." she said simply.
The sobgoblins screamed and flew off.
Suddenly, a piece of rope yanked Molly away. She found herself tied up with her friends by Jinx, using the same rope they used.
"Hey, let us go!" cried June.
"Using our own rope against us, how woefully ironic!" Libby lamented.
"You may have gotten the drop on my sobgooblins, but you won't be able to beat me!" Jinx smirked. "I will have that chairman robe, even if I have to pry it out of your hands by force!"
"You can't kill us, Jinx!" scowled Jeff.
"Yeah, we're already dead!" added Scratch.
Jinx laughed. "I just need you all unconscious enough so I can pry the cloak off of you." she said. "And when I do, we'll all be going back to misery, both in the regular and afterlife!"
Jinx shot hexes of bad luck at the buildings and they began to crumble. She laughed as the ghosts and wraiths struggled to get free. But even for ghosts, the rope was too tight to phase through thanks to Jinx's bad luck abilities.
Andrea saw her friends and their friends in trouble, much to her horror. But then, something appeared inside her. Something was motivating the rich wraith.
It was courage. Courage, from seeing her friends, and even the friends of her friends, in danger from his psycho phantomess.
Andrea's eyes narrowed, her teeth gritted and her rage began to spike.
"Hey! Ghosty! Yeah, I'm talking to you!" Andrea yelled at Jinx.
Jinx stopped making the buildings crumble and collapse and looked at Andrea.
"I thought I told you to stay quiet, Hostage!" Jinx growled.
Andrea snarled. "No one hurts the friends of ANDREA DAVENPORT!" she yelled.
Using all her strength, Andrea slammed her sobgoblin hostage guards into each other, making them dizzy as they fell to the ground. With a shriek, Andrea jumped at Jinx and wrestled her to the ground.
"What the-ow! Hey! Get off of-OW!" Jinx yelled as Andrea punched her, pulled her by the hair, and stretched out her long nose.
"Andrea?!" Molly, Libby, and Scratch said in shock.
"Dang, she's going to town on Jinx!" Daryl said, impressed.
"It's one thing to make a hostage out of Andrea Davenport, but it's another to hurt the friends I found myself caring about THROUGH THE YEAR!" Andrea roared, her face suddenly morphing into a vicious, spooky ghost face and she booed loudly.
Jinx cried out in alarm as she fell to the ground. Andrea yanked her up by the scruff and flew her through the air, ignoring Jinx's protests. Andrea then threw Jinx with all her might into the dumpster and the lid slammed shut.
"Andrea, that was amazing!" said Molly, amazed.
"We didn't know you had it in ya, kid!" said Scratch, impressed.
"Neither did I, to be honest." Andrea admitted, calmer now.
"How did you pull that off?!" asked Ollie.
"It would seem as though that after Andrea became friends with the likes of Molly, Libby, and by some extension, their families, she has shown to have cared about them, especially after she helped to save the McGee family home." said June.
"And after she saw that all of us banded together to save her, including three ghosts she's never met before, and then seeing us in danger of a crazy poltergeist, courage built up within her, strong enough to overcome her fright of the afterlife, break free, and come to our rescue." added Libby.
"That junk makes sense to me." said Daryl.
"And she got the ghost thing down pretty good on her first day!" commented Geoff.
"Thanks!" Andrea smiled. "Now that that creepy, pink ghost is out of the way… CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON RIGHT NOW?!" Andrea demanded, her loud voice nearly blowing everyone back.
"Uh… well, first of all, ghosts exist." Molly said, fixing her hair. "And second-"
Suddenly, Jinx burst out of the dumpster, coated in garbage and a horrible stench.
"I WILL NOT BE BESTED BY WANNABE GHOSTS!" Jinx roared in fury as she charged at the whole group.
Everyone yelped and were about to fight back when…
"JINX! STOP THIS AT ONCE!"
The Ghost Council emerged through the ground between Jinx and the group, making the former stop her descent. It had been Sir Alister who spoke.
"Oh! Ghost Council!" Jinx said, her anger replaced by fear as she smiled nervously. "Uh, this-this isn't what it looks like!"
"Oh, but we're afraid it is." said Bartholomew. "We had our suspicions thanks to our previous encounter with Scratch. And they were confirmed when terrified sobgoblins whizzed by talking about being bested by both ghosts and wraiths."
"And how your plan about taking a wandering wraith hostage to give you an advantage to be chairman backfired." added Grimbella, eyeing Jinx.
"All we had to do was follow the sound of chaos." said Grimbella. "Care to explain?"
"Uh, well, I, uh…" Jinx stammered.
"It's one thing to try and usurp any chairman of the Ghost World, but another to take innocent ghosts hostage and use them like that." scowled Lucretia. "Especially if it's a wraith trapped here."
"If you're not gonna listen to Scratch, the chairman who at least has some standards, then we will decide your punishment." said Grimbella.
"But he doesn't deserve-!" Jinx began when Sir Alister comically clamped her lips shut.
"That's enough out of you." he said. "You'll be stuck doing all our paperwork for the next fortnight. If that's alright with Chairman Scratch."
"Sure, fine, as long as you four keep a very close eye on her." Scratch replied. "I'm not up to dealing with anymore of Jinx's shenanigans after today."
"Of course. It has been decided." said Bathrolomew, opening up a portal. "Be off with you Jinx!"
"I'll get you for this!" Jinx yelled as the council shoved her through the portal and it closed.
"Phew, glad that mess is over!" Scratch said in relief.
"Not so fast." said Sir Alister as the council faced Scratch, making his face fall. "Care to explain why a wraith, known to you as Andrea Davenport, is here in the first place, prompting this rescue mission?"
Scratch stammered. "Uh, well, you see… I-I honestly can't say-"
"It was my fault!" Geoff cut in. "I left the portal open!
"Our fault, sweetie." Jeff gently corrected. "Scratch had nothing to do with this, for once. We had just arrived in the land of the living to meet up at the McGee house when Andrea walked through it."
"And I wasn't watching where I was going." Andrea sheepishly admitted.
"We had to rescue her, especially after Jinx kidnapped her!" added Molly.
"I see…" said Lucretia. "We're thinking of pretending this mess never happened in order to save us all a headache."
"Yeah yeah yeah! That's one of the best ideas I've ever heard!" Scratch grinned.
"Until we meet again after you get all these wraiths safely back home." said Sir Alister.
And the council floated away.
"So… now can someone tell me what's going on here?" asked Andrea.
The group traded glances.
Later they were floating over Brighton, invisible as they all told Andrea everything.
Needless to say, Andrea was stunned.
"Wow… I had a feeling ghosts truly were real, but this is still pretty shocking… and Molly, Daryl, you and your family have your own ghost in your home?"
"Scratch is a part of our family." smiled Molly, side-hugging Scratch.
"Yeah, the McGee's grew on me." Scratch said. "I used to haunt a house and now I haunt a home."
"The Chens and I found out over time." said Libby. "I was the first to know."
"And we got used to it." said Ollie.
"And I'm the closest ghost to them, benign Scratch's BFF." Geoff added, also side-hugging Scratch… tighter.
"Yeah, thanks buddy!" Scratch strained as Jeff freed him.
"Does anyone else know about Scratch?" Andrea asked. "Or full-on ghosts in general? I know the Chens are ghost catchers."
"Not many." said Daryl. "There's Grandma Nin, Uncle David, cousin Emmie, Candace Green, Gertude, Helgado and their baby since they're the spooky-loving kind of family who also own a doll possessed by the ghost Lord Doom…"
"We could never tell anyone because then I'd be in big trouble with the Council, the previous, overly strict chairman, and be banished to the Flow of Failed Phantoms!" cried Scratch.
"Lots of ghosts feel like they can't live among the living until Scratch and Molly came along and changed things." said Jeff. "Of course, ghosts like Jinx think otherwise…"
"When we did become friends Andrea, I did wanna tell you." said Molly, feeling bad. "But I wasn't sure how…"
"And this certainly wasn't the way we wanted to tell you." said Libby.
Andrea smiled. "Well I'm glad you did! And I get why. But I must say, being a ghost is kinda cool!"
"Wraith." corrected June.
"Yeah yeah yeah, but still! It's cool being able to fly, go through stuff, and morphing myself to look so spooky was kinda fun!" Andrea said.
"Come with us Andrea, let's fly across the skies!" Scratch grinned.
The group of nine flew across Brighton together, feeling the breeze in the air blow across their faces.
They looked down on the people of Brighton going about their day.
"Mangos half off at the supermarket, what a deal!" Mrs. Roop grinned.
"Get a new three-story house for cheap!" shouted Candace, waving a flier.
"Try out my famous root beer!" Ruben called from his house.
"Now also in diet and zero sugar flavors!" said Ester, holding up two new flavors.
"Hey, it's your folks!" said Andrea.
"Glad they're not ghost catching today." murmured Ollie.
They then flew through the retirement home.
"I got three of your pawns, Bobby!" Patty smirked, playing chess with her boyfriend.
"You always knew how to beat me in this game since the 60's." Bobby smiled.
The ghost flew past Nin who was reading on a relaxation chair.
"Hi, Grandma Nin!" Molly, Daryl, and Scratch said in unison.
"S̄wạs̄dī, my grandbabies and friends!" Nin waved with a smile.
They then flew past City Hall where Mayor Brunson and Andrea's parents were walking outside.
"Thank you for your time, Mr. Mayor." said Maxwell. "Hopefully this will get our company up and running again!"
"We'll just have to see what the future holds." Mayor Brunson replied.
"Now if you'll excuse us, we have a tetherball game to livestream while our daughter's at the McGee's." said Dorothea.
"Hey, it's my folks!" Andrea gasped.
"Relax, they can't see us." said Scratch.
"Which leaves us able to do this." Daryl grinned.
He flew down and levitated a log over for Mayor Brunson to slip on, making him fall into the grass.
"Gah!" he yelped as the Davenports helped him up. "I don't remember a log there…"
Daryl, Scratch, Geoff, and June snickered as the ghosts flew on.
As they flew on, they saw Andrea's crush Alina Webster walking down the sidewalk on her phone. Andrea squealed.
"It's Alina!" she cried, flying down.
"Andrea, come back!" cried Libby.
"Don't do anything reckless!" said Jeff.
"Gotta say viewers, the day is pretty sunny compared to the usual downtrodden atmosphere." Alina said. "Though nothing is more sunny than my GF, Andrea Davenport."
Andrea flew down next to her love. "Oh, she's perfect…" she swooned.
"Huh, feels like she's with me all of a sudden." commented Alina.
Andrea practically melted as Molly and Libby flew down and dragged her away.
The ghosts eventually arrived back at the McGee house, going visible again.
"So you promise to keep this quiet from everyone else? Including your parents?" asked Molly.
"Yeah, you know how a lot of people are scared of the unknown." said Scratch. "It stinks more than that durian stuff Nin brings."
"Cross my heart for my friends, both old and new, alive and ghost!" Andrea promised.
"By the way, I think this belongs to you." said Jeff, handing Andrea her phone.
Andrea squealed as she took it back. "THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU JEFF!" she said as she hugged the ghost.
They all phased back inside, startling Pete and Sharon.
"AH! GHOSTS!" Pete yelped.
"Pete, it's only the kids!" Sharon said as she calmed down.
"Huh? Oh, right!" Pete panted. "And you found Andrea!"
"Yep! Add that to another person who truly knows about ghosts and that we have one living in our house!" Molly beamed.
"By the way, how are our bodies?" asked Ollie.
"Still creepy…" Sharon said as she meekly gestured to the soulless bodies on the ground.
"We don't care at all…" Molly, Daryl, Libby, Ollie, June, and Andrea's bodies said in dull unison.
The wraiths flew down into their respective bodies, restoring them to full color.
"Ah, feels good to be back to normal." Andrea smiled, taking a selfie.
"Now that that's done, WHO'S READY FOR A MARATHON?!" Molly asked excitedly.
That night, Molly, Scratch, Daryl, Libby, Andrea, Ollie, June, Geoff, and Jeff sat around watching scary movies with popcorn, drinks, and other snacks Sharon and Pete served.
Andrea looked around her surroundings and smiled. This may have gotten crazier all of a sudden, but she didn't mind it. She was just glad to have good friends by her side, both alive and ghost.
Sora walked past the McGee home, briefly glancing at it and smiling at the sounds of new friendships happening before turning to the fourth wall.
"The unknown is always scary. But it never has to be. When you have good friends from the known and unknown by your side to help you through it. That's what the Ghost Friends did to help save Andrea from Jinx. And Andrea got newfound courage that helped save her friends, both old and new, from Jinx's usurp. It's the kind of friends like Molly McGee that makes even the scariest escapades turn into fun ones. And even scary in a good way, like a haunted house, or corn maze at a Halloween festival, or a horror movie marathon in your house in the dead of night. Ghosts can be scary, but that doesn't mean they have to be."
