Chapter 20: Perfect Partners
Everyone in the city was happy to know that they no longer had to worry about fires being set all over Gotham now that Firefly and his arsonists were locked up. Batman and Robin had returned to the manor that night and didn't really say much to each other before they turned in for the night. The next day was no different as Bruce had to go to work and Dick was left at the house. The next time the two actually properly spoke to each other was later that night when a news report came on regarding the Pioneer's Bridge incident from the previous night. Bruce, Dick, and Alfred all remained quiet as Harvey was giving a public speech at city hall on the news. "I want to assure the citizens of Gotham that they no longer have to be afraid of fires being set all over the city. The serial arsonist known as Firefly has been apprehended and incarcerated in Arkham Asylum and the rest of his men have been sent to Blackgate. "Mr. Dent can you confirm that Batman and his new partner Robin are responsible for defeating Firefly as well as saving your life on the bridge?".", Vicki Vale asked. "Yes, I can confirm that is what happened. And I can safely say that those two have provided a great service by stopping that maniac and I'm sure will continue to do great things for this city. But I can't give all the credit to them. The newly appointed Commissioner Gordon and his men did a fine job with handling the situation as well. I'd like to let him share a few words too.", Harvey said as he handed the mic to Gordon. "Mr. Gordon. How does it feel to be the new commissioner following Commissioner Loeb's death?", Vicki asked. "I mainly feel like I can help do more good for Gotham than ever before. Loeb was a good leader and will be dearly missed, but I know he would want me to do better than he ever could and will do exactly that. And I would like to once again assure all of you that I really do believe that as long as Batman and his new friend are out there, Gotham will continue to feel more safe than it has in a long time. Along with me, my men, and District Attorney Dent, there will be some serious change in this city which it has not seen in years. That's really all I have to say. Goodnight.", Gordon said as he and Dent left even though the news were pressing for more questions. "I think he's right. With you looking out for everyone, Gotham will feel like a safe place.", Dick said. "Me?", Bruce asked. "Yeah. I plan to keep my word, Bruce. Robin won't leave his nest again. As much as I would still like to help you, I know you won't allow it and I don't want to go against your wishes. Gotham will be lucky to still have just you looking out for it.", Dick said with a sad tone as he really didn't want to stop being a hero as it really gave him a purpose like he never felt before. Even more of a purpose than being a circus performer ever did for him. "Actually, Dick. I've been thinking that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if you did stick around to help me out as Robin.", Bruce admitted. Dick looked surprised and happy upon hearing this "What, really?!", he said. "If it wasn't for you not listening to me and sticking around, the last bomb wouldn't have had been disarmed in time and the bridge would have been destroyed, and then possible the whole city would have been torched and reduced to ash. You really did a good thing and I'm honestly really proud of you. Maybe I was wrong about you not doing this with me. I think with maybe a little mentoring, we can really make a dynamic duo like Gordon said.", Bruce said. "So, you're saying you'll let me continue to be your partner?", Dick asked. "Yes, for now at least. But if you work with me, I want you to give me everything you got, and then I want you to give me more. That's what I was taught when I was training in Asia and I haven't stopped doing just that.", Bruce said. "Sounds good to me. Put er there, partner!", Dick said as he held out his hand for Bruce to shake. Bruce shook it forever cementing an iconic partnership. "I can tell this will be a good thing for the both of you, as well as the whole of Gotham.", Alfred said. He then looked out through the window and saw the Bat Signal in the sky. "Looks like they already need you again.", Alfred said as he directed their attention to the window. "Well, let's go, Robin!", Bruce said with a smile. "Right behind you, Batman!", Dick said as he smiled back and followed Bruce down to the Batcave so they can suit up and continue their war on crime in Gotham.
The End
I hope you readers liked how I introduced Robin into this series and liked the story in general. I'll try to get to the next story in this series as soon as possible since I do have other stories I want to get to. Thanks again for reading and until next time.
