Konohagakure, Training Ground 7 – Dawn
The sun was just beginning to rise over Konohagakure, casting warm hues across the sky and illuminating the familiar Training Ground 7. Naruto stood in the middle of the clearing, his arms crossed as he gazed out at the village he loved. Today marked a significant moment for his new team. While their first meeting and the bell test had shown him their individual potential, he knew this day would be different. Today, they'd embark on their very first mission together.
He couldn't help but chuckle softly to himself, remembering his own experiences as a genin. His first missions with Kakashi-sensei had been a mixed bag of boredom, frustration, and occasional excitement. He wondered how his own genin team would fare.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of flapping wings. Ruyoshi landed in the clearing, his large wings folding behind him as his feet touched the ground. The boy wore an eager smile as he straightened up, brushing a few stray strands of messy dark hair out of his face.
"Morning, Sensei!" Ruyoshi called out, adjusting the kunai holster on his leg.
Naruto grinned. "Morning, Ruyoshi! Early again, huh?"
Ruyoshi nodded enthusiastically. "I like to get some practice flying in the morning. It helps me clear my mind before training."
Naruto chuckled, impressed with the boy's commitment. Ruyoshi's wings were unique, even among the wide array of ninjas in Konoha, and Naruto was eager to see how the boy would use them in combat. So far, Ruyoshi had shown potential, but he was still a bit hesitant when it came to using his wings in tandem with his other abilities.
Before Naruto could say more, Hanabi Hyuga appeared, walking calmly into the clearing. Her demeanor was, as always, composed and serious, with an air of confidence that never seemed to waver. She glanced at Naruto and Ruyoshi, her pale lavender eyes assessing them before nodding curtly.
"Sensei, Ruyoshi," she greeted, her voice measured.
Naruto returned the nod. "Morning, Hanabi. Ready for your first mission?"
Hanabi simply crossed her arms, her expression unreadable. "Of course."
Naruto could sense the pressure that weighed on her shoulders. Being the younger sister of Hinata Hyuga, and a member of one of Konoha's most prestigious clans, Hanabi had a lot to live up to. Her intense dedication to surpassing her sister and proving her worth was clear. She didn't talk much, but her determination spoke volumes.
Moments later, the final member of their team, Shinichi Shihi, arrived. As usual, she moved quietly, her sharp eyes scanning the training ground before giving a small nod to Naruto. Shinichi was the most mysterious of the group—reserved, observant, and serious about her craft as a genjutsu user. While the others often spoke or reacted quickly, Shinichi preferred to watch and calculate her next move carefully.
"Morning," Shinichi said quietly, taking her place next to Hanabi.
"Alright, looks like everyone's here," Naruto said, clapping his hands together. "Today is going to be a bit different. It's your first mission day!"
Ruyoshi's eyes lit up with excitement. "Finally! What kind of mission is it, Sensei? Are we going to take down some rogue ninjas or maybe infiltrate a hidden village?"
Hanabi gave him a sidelong glance, clearly unimpressed by his enthusiasm. "Calm down, Ruyoshi. We're a brand-new team. Our first mission isn't going to be anything like that."
Naruto laughed, shaking his head. "Hanabi's right. We're not hunting down rogue ninjas just yet. Your first mission will be a D-rank one."
Ruyoshi's shoulders slumped slightly, but he quickly perked up again. "Well, I guess we have to start somewhere, right?"
"That's the spirit," Naruto said, flashing him a grin. "But don't underestimate D-rank missions. They may seem simple, but there's always something to learn. Let's head to the Hokage Tower to collect our mission."
With that, Naruto gestured for his team to follow him as they made their way through the village. The streets were already bustling with early-morning activity, shop owners setting up their stands, and villagers going about their daily routines. For the genin, it was a familiar sight, but there was a different energy in the air today. Today, they weren't just academy students or genin waiting for training—they were shinobi, ready to take on their first official mission.
As they walked, Naruto kept an eye on his team. Ruyoshi's excitement was palpable, though the boy did his best to mask it. He'd occasionally glance up at the sky, clearly itching to take flight again. Hanabi, on the other hand, walked with a calm, deliberate pace, her eyes scanning their surroundings as if always on guard. Shinichi remained as silent as ever, her face betraying no emotion, but Naruto could tell she was listening intently to everything going on around her.
They soon arrived at the Hokage Tower, the towering structure that stood at the heart of Konoha. Naruto led them inside, where they made their way up the stairs to the mission assignment office. The walls were lined with various scrolls and papers, each one representing a different task waiting to be assigned to a team of shinobi. A few other teams of genin were already present, awaiting their missions as well.
At the front desk sat Shikamaru Nara, who had been appointed as the village's mission assignment manager after the war. He looked as bored as ever, leaning back in his chair with a lazy expression on his face as he glanced over the mission requests in front of him. When Naruto and his team approached, Shikamaru barely lifted his head, though a small smirk appeared on his face.
"Well, if it isn't Naruto and his new genin team," Shikamaru drawled, his tone teasing. "Here to pick up your first D-rank mission?"
"Yeah, that's right," Naruto replied with a grin. "Got anything good for us?"
Shikamaru lazily flipped through the stack of mission scrolls on his desk, muttering to himself as he sifted through them. "Let's see… cleaning gutters, weeding gardens, walking dogs… Ah, here we go. How about this one? Escorting Tora."
Naruto winced at the name. Tora… He had almost forgotten about that cat. Almost. Memories of chasing that pesky feline all over the village flashed through his mind. He groaned inwardly, wondering why that cat was still a problem after all these years.
"Uh… any other options?" Naruto asked cautiously, not wanting his team's first mission to be spent running after a troublemaking cat.
Shikamaru smirked, clearly enjoying Naruto's discomfort. "Relax, I'm kidding. How about this one instead? It's a simple delivery mission. You're to deliver a package to a merchant in a nearby village. It's about a day's walk there and back. Easy enough for your first mission."
Naruto sighed in relief, taking the scroll from Shikamaru. "We'll take it."
Shikamaru waved them off lazily. "Good luck, Naruto. Try not to lose the package."
Naruto gave him a mock salute before turning back to his team. "Alright, guys. We've got ourselves a delivery mission. We'll be heading to a village just outside of Konoha to deliver a package. Should be a piece of cake."
Ruyoshi tilted his head, clearly curious. "A delivery mission? That sounds a bit… simple."
"It may seem simple, but there's always something to learn," Naruto reminded him. "And don't forget, we're still a new team. This will give us a chance to practice working together."
Hanabi nodded in agreement. "It'll be good to see how we function in a real-world situation, even if it's a simple task."
Shinichi remained silent, but Naruto could see the glint of determination in her eyes. Even for a mission as straightforward as this one, she was taking it seriously.
"Alright, let's get moving," Naruto said, leading them out of the tower and toward the village gates. As they walked, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. This was the beginning of something important—his team's first real step as shinobi of Konoha.
The road out of Konoha was well-traveled, lined with tall trees that provided a welcome shade as Naruto and his team made their way toward the nearby village. The package they were delivering was small, wrapped in simple brown paper and tucked securely in Naruto's backpack. It wasn't anything valuable or dangerous, just some supplies for a merchant who had requested help from the village.
As they walked, Naruto decided it was a good time to get a better sense of how his team worked together. After all, even the simplest missions could reveal important insights about teamwork and individual strengths.
"So," Naruto said, breaking the silence, "let's talk about strategy. If something unexpected happens on this mission, how do you guys think we should handle it?"
Ruyoshi was the first to speak, his excitement evident. "Well, I could fly ahead and scout the area. With my wings, I can cover more ground faster and give us a heads-up if there's any danger."
"That's a good idea," Naruto acknowledged. "But what if flying puts you in a vulnerable position? You won't have much cover up in the air."
Ruyoshi hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "You're right. I'd have to be careful not to get caught off guard. Maybe I could use my wings more for mobility during a fight, like quick strikes or dodging attacks."
"Exactly," Naruto said, pleased with Ruyoshi's thought process. "Your wings give you a big advantage, but you need to be smart about how you use them."
Next, he turned to Hanabi. "What about you, Hanabi? How would you approach a situation where we're ambushed or something goes wrong?"
Hanabi's expression was as serious as ever. "I would use my Byakugan to assess the situation. My eyes can see through walls, detect chakra, and give us a tactical advantage. I'd focus on identifying the enemy's positions and weaknesses so we can form a plan based on that."
Naruto nodded, impressed. "Good thinking. The Byakugan is a powerful tool, and having someone on the team who can gather that kind of intel is invaluable."
Finally, Naruto glanced at Shinichi, who had been listening quietly the whole time. "What about you, Shinichi?"
Shinichi paused for a moment, her eyes thoughtful. "I would use my genjutsu to disrupt the enemy's plans. If we were ambushed, I could trap them in an illusion, giving us time to either escape or counterattack."
"Nice," Naruto said, smiling. "Genjutsu can be a game-changer in the right hands. You'll need to work on perfecting it, but I can see it being a big part of our strategy."
As they continued walking, Naruto felt a growing sense of pride in his team. Each of them had unique strengths, and while they still had a lot to learn, they were already showing the potential to become a well-rounded unit.
After a few hours of walking, they arrived at the small village where their delivery was to be made. The village was nestled at the base of a hill, its streets lined with modest houses and shops. It was peaceful, with villagers going about their daily routines. Naruto led his team to the merchant's shop, a small building near the village center.
The merchant, a middle-aged man with a friendly smile, greeted them warmly. "Ah, you must be the shinobi from Konoha! Thank you for delivering the package."
Naruto handed over the package, and the merchant inspected it briefly before nodding in satisfaction. "Everything looks in order. I really appreciate your help."
"No problem," Naruto said, smiling. "Just part of the job."
With the package delivered, the mission was complete. It had been a simple task, but Naruto could see that his team had taken it seriously, and that was what mattered most. As they left the village and began their journey back to Konoha, Naruto decided it was time for some more hands-on training.
"Alright, we've got some time before we head back to the village," Naruto said as they reached a clearing in the forest. "Let's do a little training."
Ruyoshi's eyes lit up. "Training? What kind of training, Sensei?"
"I want to see how you guys work together in a combat scenario," Naruto explained. "I'm going to play the role of your enemy. Your goal is to take me down as a team. Use everything you've learned so far—your wings, your Byakugan, your genjutsu. Work together and come up with a plan."
Hanabi and Shinichi exchanged glances, and Ruyoshi grinned eagerly. Naruto could see the determination in their eyes. This was their chance to prove themselves, and they weren't going to waste it.
Naruto took a few steps back, creating some distance between himself and his team. "Alright, come at me!"
Without hesitation, Ruyoshi shot into the air, his wings beating rapidly as he flew high above the clearing. Hanabi activated her Byakugan, her eyes glowing as she scanned the area, and Shinichi began to form hand signs, preparing her genjutsu.
Naruto watched them carefully, impressed by how quickly they were moving into action. Ruyoshi swooped down, aiming a kick at Naruto's head, but Naruto easily dodged, slipping to the side with a grin.
"You're going to have to be faster than that, Ruyoshi!" Naruto called out.
Ruyoshi banked sharply, using his wings to maneuver back into the air. As he did, Hanabi rushed in, her hands glowing with chakra as she aimed a series of precise strikes at Naruto's vital points. Naruto blocked the first few strikes but had to retreat when Hanabi's speed increased.
She's fast, Naruto thought, grinning. Just like Hinata.
Shinichi, meanwhile, had completed her hand signs. She cast her genjutsu, and for a brief moment, the world around Naruto flickered. He could feel the illusion trying to take hold, but he easily dispelled it with a burst of chakra.
"Nice try, Shinichi," Naruto said, his grin widening. "But you're going to have to make your genjutsu stronger if you want to catch me."
Shinichi narrowed her eyes, already preparing her next move. Ruyoshi dove in again from above, while Hanabi pressed her attack from the ground. Naruto was forced to stay on the defensive as the three genin worked together, each of them using their unique abilities to keep him on his toes.
After several minutes of intense sparring, Naruto finally called a halt to the training. He was impressed with how well his team had worked together, especially considering it was their first time doing so in a combat scenario.
"Good job, guys," Naruto said, catching his breath. "You've got a long way to go, but you're already showing a lot of promise."
Ruyoshi landed, his wings folding behind him as he grinned proudly. "That was awesome, Sensei! We almost had you!"
Hanabi wiped the sweat from her brow, her expression as serious as ever. "We still need to improve our coordination. There were a few moments where we weren't working in sync."
Shinichi remained quiet, but Naruto could see the wheels turning in her head as she analyzed what had just happened. She was a thinker, always looking for ways to improve.
"Hanabi's right," Naruto said. "You did well, but there's always room for improvement. We'll keep working on it, but for now, let's head back to the village. You've earned a break."
As they made their way back to Konoha, Naruto couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. His team still had a lot to learn, but they were on the right track. With time, they would grow stronger, and Naruto was excited to see how far they could go.
This was just the beginning of their journey as a team, and Naruto was determined to guide them every step of the way.
