Chapter 35

Sacred Simplicity of You at my Side

Somnolent lilac eyes opened to find the sun high in the sky. It was no wonder, with the stress and excitement of the past couple of days, oversleeping seems perfectly understandable. Still, after the accomplishments that morning, the hunter found himself well recovered and rather relaxed. With only good things to look forward to, Zero readied himself and joined everyone else in the Moon Dorm cafeteria.

Strangely enough, the air of the dorm was abuzz with excitement. Zero entered the room to find Yuki, Ichiru, the Chairman and the children huddled around a large table. His peripheral vision caught sight of the high-ranking nobles engaged in a serious discussion. Some could even be seen talking with urgency on their phones.

At his entrance, almost all eyes turned to him. Their movements afforded him a good view of the tabletop covered with bridal magazines thrown open here and there.

Where the hell did they get all that?

Catching a blinding aura, the silverette turned and found his mate smilingly sipping tea in a corner. His engagement ring glittered clearly in the late morning shine. Clearly, the ill fit wasn't enough to stop the pureblood from quietly boasting about it.

The hunter briefly considered if he was hungry enough to endure the overwhelming aura of cloying sweetness in the air. However, there was this sinister feeling in the air that no one but him felt that he would need all the energy he could get. He had the foreboding that he would soon find himself in a situation where he'd be running nonstop for hours. Why was that?

He knew he was right when he met glaring determination glinting sharply from the eyes of his soon-to-be secretary, his brother, his adopted-family and even his children. "W-what? What do you want?"

"Congratulations on your engagement, otou-chan!"

"Congratulations, son! I knew you could do it!"

"Congratulations, Zero! I'm so excited for the cake testing!"

"Congratulations, nii-san! I swear that we'll help you with the wedding preparation. We won't fail this time!"

"Congratulations on your engagement, Zero-sama!"

"Otou-chan, we're going to hold the wedding at the Kuran Castle, right?"

"Oh my, otou-chan! While I'm devastated that I was bereft of the chance to capture your excellent proposal, I'm most delighted to be able to attend the wedding!"

"Congratulations, Zero-sama! Kaname-sama had already prepared the budget. I shall help you prepare the best wedding possible!"

"Zero-sama, which auspicious date would you like to choose for the wedding?"

"I can't believe you had asked the question yourself, Zero-sama! My most heartfelt felicitation!"

"Congratulations on your engagement, Zero-sama! We had already contacted the Kuran Castle to ask help for the wedding preparation."

"Would you rather have a western style wedding or a Japanese style one?"

"Zero-sama, this is urgent! We'll also need to prepare for an engagement party!"

"Otou-chan, let's go for this suit design! It would look marvelous on you!"

The poor silverette blanched at the constant stream of well-wishes and the sudden barrage of all the tasks he suddenly needed to accomplish. He thought that everything would be fine after he had popped the question. Considering the pandemonium, whichever god presiding over marriages was surely laughing at his naivety.

Instinctively, long legs prepared for a sprint that would take him away from the rabid crowd but his movement was suddenly arrested by the bastard who had accurately predicted his intention.

"There now, my love. I believe we are pressed for time as it is. Surely, you're not thinking of escaping from some simple preparations?" The Vampire King smiled gently; voice soft.

'Fuck, Kaname.' "Let go." The hunter growled under his breathe. He needed to get away from here if he still wanted to live.

"Why are you trying to run away? Aren't you the one who proposed to him?" Yuki censured while holding out an open wedding cake magazine in front of her future brother-in-law.

"Shut up!" It was embarrassing to be reminded of that at every fucking turn! "When I asked him to marry me, I didn't exactly think of a big ceremony!" Then turning to his fiancé, he hissed. "Can't we just go to a judge and get two witnesses?"

"As much as I would like to indulge your every wish, my love, I'm afraid my position has forced my hand." Kaname personally wouldn't mind doing as Zero suggested. Rather, he found it appealing considering that it could be done swiftly. If they so wished, in just a few hours, he would be able to call the hunter his husband.

However, as the Vampire King, his people would expect an elaborate and grand celebration. And while he was normally averse to stifling and tiresome events, he would not say no to formally announcing to the world that Zero was his. So, despite the tediousness of the preparation for they must invite everyone of importance in the Vampire Society, Kaname was secretly looking forward to it.

"My love, rest assured that most of the things would be prepared by the staff and aides. You only need to choose from the selections they'll present. I would do my utmost to help you." Came the sincere encouragement.

"Don't worry, otou-chan! I will help you! You can depend on my excellent taste!" Trumpeted a very proud Kuran Akira.

"Please, Akira, my dear brother, if it were up to you the wedding would turn out like a child's birthday party in the 90's." Kuran Anne intervened, ignoring the cherub's indignant huff. "Just leave it to me, otou-chan. I shall assist you in my utmost!"

"Ahem, onee-chan's taste is excellent but ostentatious. My taste mirrors otou-chan's so it's better if I help out instead." Quietly offered one Kuran Kohaku, fiercely avoiding his older sister's piercing gaze.

With a sigh, Zero couldn't help but feel trapped. How could he even try to escape when faced by those glittering gazes, his brother's, Yuki's and the Chairman's not included. Not to mention, he could feel the extreme inclination in the eternal bond with that exasperating vampire. "Fine, but don't blame me if it turned out reminiscent of Dia de los Muertos."

"Then I'm sure that it'd be a most exhilarating wedding."

When Kiryū Zero woke up that day, he didn't have an inkling that he'd be spending the last day of his vacation bombarded by questions about his wishes for a wedding. While he honestly didn't think of when the wedding would be held, he was certain that it'd be a rather long engagement. He had underestimated the Vampire King's tenacity and was then pressed for decisions only a few hours after getting engaged.

He resolutely turned down the suggestion for an engagement party in a bid to lessen the things they needed to do but it seemed like the tasks were still endless.

What the hell? It took him more than a whole day just to pop the question but these bastards didn't even take a few hours to make some arrangements and procure some samples. He knew it was the power of money and connections but the simple sixteen-year-old in him still felt stupefied by how fast things just progressed.

Still, thanks to the pureblood, he need not go here and there to do things. Instead, he was firmly situated inside the common room with attendants who had surprisingly come from the castle with dozens of vendors in tow. The hunter had to hand it to them. When it comes to getting things done, they truly meant serious business.

Then again, when the highest authority in the Vampire Society ordered to get things done by the end of the month, what else could they do but bust their asses to accomplish as much as possible? Damn that man.

It took no time at all for the common room to turn into an expensive jungle of wedding samples that would make any bride green with envy. Soon enough, the rather large chamber got covered by hundreds of wedding related materials closely examined by the nobles, the consort's future lady-in-waiting secretary, his brother, his midget future sister-in-law, his children, and the king's aide. Sharp, critical eyes scrutinized each vendor's hasty presentation and fault-finding hands prodded and inspected the fabrics and samples.

The king himself was present though the work he was doing had nothing to do with the preparation. Still, the pureblood offered his advice whenever he could though the final decision still rested on the silver consort.

It was a small mercy that the silverette managed to kick the Chairman out and that his annoying senpai was still out for several missions. He shuddered at the thought of that jerk Kaito's reaction. Zero stifled a sigh and soldiered on.

However, after a few hours of peaceful chaos, the hunter's temper surged at the endless volley of wedding questions. Amidst all the fawning smiles from managers of stores he didn't even know were owned by vampires and a hundred more felicitations by all those who entered the room, Zero's short fuse got even shorter.

What more do they want for the theme color? Of course, it's white.

Seriously, what was the difference between those table napkins? They look the same!

Why even choose a napkin fold? They'd end up soiled on the guests' lap anyway!

Those portfolios of the wedding photographers looked like carbon copies of each other!

Why should he carry a sprig of myrtle? He won't have a wedding bouquet!

Must he also arrange their seats? Why couldn't it be first come, first serve?

Did this bastard really asked if he was going to wear a dress or a suit? And no, no garters as well!

What was the difference between these fabrics and those designs?

Why the hell must he have something old, new, borrowed and blue? He's not a freaking bride!

Was there even a use of choosing a wedding orchestra? They all sounded alike!

Stop with the suggestions of a June wedding. If there are any complaints, go talk to your king.

Who the hell made this very particular program? The time to stand, sit down, hold hands, sing and even the speeches were timed!

Why couldn't some flowers be mixed with others?

And he could certainly bake better than that!

He was so close to bashing the brains of the distinguished wedding planner their castle staff took with them. This scammer! Were all these really important? Also, the selections had minimal to nonexistent differences!

Of course, things were made better by his children's and mate's excellent opinions and eye for detail. As much as he wanted to pick one of the options carelessly and simply agree to all other things, he couldn't at the remembrance of his mate's anticipation.

However, after hours and hours of being shown samples upon samples, hard amethysts couldn't help twitching in exasperation at being presented different curtains, tablecloths and chair covers that looked identical to each other.

Surprised reddish-lavender orbs of the Royal Princess turned from their strict inspection of the cloths when she felt her dearest father rose from his seat. "Otou-chan?"

"Hm, nii-san?" Ichiru questioned while tasting some dessert samples.

Without words, the silverette went for the door, opened it then took off in dash so fast, nobody in the room had managed to react.

"Eh, Zero!?" Yuki had cried out in belated surprise, letting go of the fabric samples for the maid of honor's gown and supporter's suit. Damn that man! They thought all were fine since he was sitting there quietly and was being cooperative. They were lulled into a false sense of security!

Yuki and Ichiru instantaneously rallied some nobles' and the little royal's help for an abrupt man-hunt. Before much time was wasted, dozens of the vampires in the dorm were out of the door, crying for their silver consort.

The bewildered merchants could only look on when a most surprising chuckle from the Vampire King resounded.

Hmm… His mate managed to participate for more than six hours straight. He had truly exceeded his expectation. Zero's willing participation in the planning had already made Kaname over the moon. He knew that the effort was mostly for him. Still, he could not help but tease the adorable fugitive through their bond.

'Is Kiryū Zero truly running away from mere wedding preparations, my love?'

'Bastard, that Kiryū Zero didn't think he would need to choose even the fucking curtains of a damn banquet hall!'

'Surely, it's nothing compared to your might.'

'If it's not that difficult then why don't you do it? You're sitting on your ass the whole fucking day anyway!'

'You wound me, my love. I'm truly working hard in order to be able to spend a comfortable eternity with you.'

'You'll be spending the rest of forever on the couch! Damn it, Kaname! Make them stop!'

'The Royal Consort handles all the events of the Royal Family, my love. Even if I step in now, you'll find yourself in fairly the same situation soon enough. This makes for wonderful practice, Zero.'

'Fuck! You're useless, Kaname!'

The hunter cursed the incompetent bastard through their bond but instead of being alleviated of his anger, he felt his ire climb higher when he felt copious amount of elation and amusement flood their everlasting link. They said that fortune and blessing walked hand-in-hand but why did it have to apply to this bastard too?! Why was the most soothing balm to his existence also the most excruciating headache in his life?

Kaname often did things that made Zero want to crush something. But even with all the irritation and annoyance, even if there were days when he could just tear his whole head but still not quell his frustration or his hand would twitch with the need to heavily land on the brunette, he would never try to change his mate.

The realization made the hunter huff in resignation.

Even that romantic side which would make him so embarrass he could melt or that prodigal way he spent money like water. Even the way he talked like an old man or that domineering side that always made him miss his gun. The way he would suffocate the hunter with his affections or displeasure. Nor would he wish to expel the beast that lounged behind that sanguine gaze or the danger that sat at the tip of his fangs.

He wouldn't change one niggling detail.

He would never say it even in the pain of death but he would rather live with all these aggravating traits than with someone so flawless. All because he fell in love with that man and his many different sides, the good and the bad.

Zero wanted to spend his eternity with that man and all his demons.

After remembering Kaname's teasing though, a large vein in the pale neck throbbed and irritation overwrote his sentiments momentarily.

His affections didn't stop him from jumping over a bush as he ran through the forest.

After closing the closet door inside an unused room in the Moon Dorm, the runaway finally let himself relax a little like a child who had arrived in his secret base. Truly, the darkest place was under the lamp.

Thanks to his little rascal's bloodstone, he managed to sneak back to the dorm and hide away in one of the rooms. Zero could still hear multiple vampires' energetic cry for his name and prayed that the students already in the Sun Dorm wouldn't hear them.

A gentle hand softly patted the energetic kicks of the angel that must have been startled awake by his sudden sprint. He had tried his hardest not to burden himself and surely, it was the perk of being mated to the most powerful vampire that even half his usual speed was enough to outrun the intimidating mob. Granted, he was almost caught three times but his battle experiences helped him escape again.

An inaudible sigh of relief escaped soft lips. Internally, he promised to come back after an hour or five.

Just give him a freaking break, damn it!

Zero had almost fallen asleep when footsteps were suddenly heard nearby. With eyes closed, he continuously chanted 'I'm not here' internally. But who was he kidding? Given his shitty luck, of course, the door to his hiding place soon opened to give way to an eerily smiling Ichijou Takuma.

With nothing to lose, the silverette immediately gestured for the vampire to be quiet. Surprisingly, Ichijou nodded once and smiled wider before turning away from him. Zero was just about to let out an enormous sigh of relief when the noble shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Zero-sama is here!"

The silverette gaped at the noble, too shocked to even be angry at the unforeseen betrayal. Not that he really expected nor demanded loyalty from a vampire but he thought that such an action was completely beneath the lively and overall cheerful blonde. "There was a time when I thought you were my savior, Ichijou-senpai…"

"Oh my, that's very naïve of you, Zero-sama."

Numbly, the speechless hunter went out of his hiding spot, one part urging him to make a run for it before the howling beasts in the face of the whole Moon Dorm and newly arrived castle servants catch a sniff of him like hellhounds of ruin. However, before he could take a step further, he heard an earnest voice behind him.

"I've grown up with Kaname-sama, you know. I've spent almost every day being his right-hand man and friend. Not once did I ever hear him utter anything selfish. It may be that he was so privileged that he didn't need to ask but even the things a young and orphaned child would want, like love and attention, he never asked. He lived like the dignified prince and pureblood that he is and was in turn burdened by responsibilities at such a young age. And yet, that same man finally found something he'll give anything to have. In all those years, Zero-sama, the one and only willful wish he has ever had was to have you. Please take care of him." Takuma smiled; emerald eyes dark with sincerity.

Well, damn.

The silverette couldn't summon his rage after such a speech even at the sight of a hurrying Ichiru and Yuki with a battalion of nobles and an army of castle servants out for his blood behind them. He only sighed when two strong pairs of arms hooked around his own arms before his twin and Yuki both dragged him while exclaiming complaints and frustration at his continuous escape.

He couldn't help but be irked though when exhausted amethysts saw the noble wave a friendly and lively hand at him, smiling more broadly than before.

Before he turned the corner however, he saw the blonde bow formally in accordance to their etiquette as a sign of respect to the Royal Consort.

Zero scoffed. I'll let you off only this once, Ichijou-senpai.

Unbelievable.

Internally, it was all the beauty in a white suit could think about. Zero had seriously thought that his mate was being foolishly ambitious for wanting to host a wedding with only about of month of preparation. He had prepared for things to go awry one way or another but the power of money, connections and authority should truly never be underestimated.

Lo and behold, there stood Kiryū Zero in all pristine glory of a groom on his wedding day just as the Vampire King had commanded.

Huh.

Everything happened so fast that the hunter was still amazed that he didn't suffer from permanent mental damage. Perhaps, it was also thanks to the Chairman who had allowed his frequent absences and everyone who had tirelessly assisted him. Well, given their excitement and eagerness to accomplish things perfectly, he mused that it should be no wonder that they all found themselves in the Kuran Castle once again, enjoying a three-day break from the Academy.

It was more surprising that the ever-so-busy new heads of the Hunter Association could attend. Granted, he could see traces of exhaustion and weight-loss from their faces though still alight with cheer at the present event.

The previously frightened nobles who only a few weeks ago couldn't wait to leave the castle premises were once again back in their glittering attires. Whether by the force of royal authority or curiosity at the suddenness of the wedding, he didn't know nor did he really care.

Feeling strange, lavender orbs stared unseeingly at the opulence of the room he was escorted to wait in with a few maids on standby in case he needed something. Still, despite the hectic morning and dizzying last-minute preparations, he didn't find himself tired or hungry, simply dazed. Was this really happening?

He felt stressed and exhausted since the day before but now, he could only feel like he was out of his mind, still rather doubtful of everything that was happening. It seemed only yesterday when he was worried about what his mate was doing behind his back then half-insane with concern about his kidnapped daughter. Now, he was sitting there waiting quietly for the program he had spent sleepless mornings arranging after painful failures at proposing.

Lavender orbs blinked stupidly at nothing.

Huh.

The hand he placed in his midriff in an attempt to steady himself flinched at the sound of doors opening.

"Oya, what's this? Experiencing wedding blues already, Zero-sama?"

The aggravating voice came from a hateful new arrival who was followed by his brother and sister. After being bullied into a beautification he didn't ask that morning, the silverette certainly did not appreciate seeing Kaito's smirk. Fingers itched with the desire to puncture the jerk with Rose's thorns. Only the unceasing jubilation and excitement permeating through the bond prevented the consort from spilling blood on that day.

Ignoring his senpai, Zero turned to his brother and Yuki who admiringly exclaimed at the sight of him. At least it seemed that the massages, oils, perfume and other products they put on him weren't totally useless, the hunter mused.

"Zero! You look so handsome!" Squealed an enthusiastic Yuki who was looking resplendent in her long, chiffon maid of honor dress that was perfectly matched by her boyfriend's, her brother's supporter, suit.

"Woah, you look really good, nii-san." Ichiru, who looked dapper in his dark blue suit, beamed with genuine pride at the stately look of his twin. Of course, he didn't mention how Zero looked rather graceful in his white suit because there'd be hell to pay otherwise. It was a good thing they managed to convince him into wearing white since he didn't initially want to. Even his obstinate brother who had no eye for fashion could clearly see that he looked better in white than black.

"Yes, yes, you look lovely, your majesty." Kaito couldn't help but add since he was obviously ignored by his heartless kohai.

Would it truly be terrible of him to wish that his twin would accidentally kill this moron during practical training? "Why does this jerk hate me so much?" Zero thoughtlessly mumbled.

"Nah, Zero, I don't hate you but if you were choking and I had water, I'd drink it."

Seriously, what heinous sin did he commit in his previous life to be acquainted with this asshole in this life?

Sensing his brother's rapidly thinning patience, the perceptive younger Kiryū hurriedly elbowed the unhelpful senpai out of the way before the Royal Consort became a murderer. Heaven knows that should anything happen to delay the much-awaited wedding, the Vampire King would be a murderer. They came there to entertain the bri- err, the other groom! Damn it. He should have asked one of his nieces or nephews instead! "How are things so far, nii-san?"

Sensing the danger, the pureblood princess further pushed the vampire hunter away and joined in a convincingly would-be cheerful voice, "You won't believe how perfect everything was, Zero! The venue looks like a scene from a fairytale!" Onii-sama, I hope you know that I'm trying really hard and increase my allowance!

"I'm fine, Ichiru. That's good to hear, Yuki." Was that his voice? Why did it sound so strange to his ears? Neither commented so perhaps, he was overthinking things. What was happening to him?

Well, he knew even through his continuous denial. After all, other than his name, nothing else would change with this wedding. They were already bonded and were even sharing the same room, sleeping in the same bed and sitting across each other during meals since months ago. They'd been almost inseparable since they got mated so why? Why was he still feeling so freaking flustered at the thought of walking down that aisle?

Numbly, he could hear Ichiru and Yuki talking about the last-minute preparation they did, the state of the castle, the reactions of the important guests and reactions of the guests they couldn't care less about, the busy Night Class nobles who were helping them welcome the guests, the way they had to fight off the royal princes, princess and the Chairman for the chance to visit him in the waiting room and all the other shenanigans that happened without Zero knowing. Yet, nothing registered to the silverette. He wouldn't be surprised if someone had commented seeing his soul floating out of his body for that was exactly what he was feeling.

Truly out of this world.

He only came back to his senses the moment Souen Ruka came to proclaim, "It's time, Zero-sama."

Zero could see a line of people awaiting their turn outside the chapel. Soft lavender gaze fell on his smiling children who were designated as pageboys and flower bearers. He could see Kohaku, their ring bearer, looking magnificent while carrying the wedding rings. Lilac eyes could even spy the rather nervous expression on Yuki's face before she entered which almost made him smile. Distantly, he could hear the sound of instruments and see the sun slowly setting but nothing truly made an impression.

Then, it was his turn.

He had remained calm during the trip from the waiting room to the chapel in the expansive courtyard. Yet, serenity instantly vanished the moment he stepped into the large chapel and laid eyes on his mate at the end of the aisle, dressed in an elegant three-piece wedding suit which honestly didn't look all that different from the other suits he had seen Kaname wear. In fact, he'd seen him wear it during the final fitting and even when the wedding photograph was taken days ago. So, why did it still take his breath away?

Like a moron, all he could do was stare at those familiar burgundy pools like someone hypnotized, fighting off the sudden stinging of his eyes. The warmth of the singing bond kept him company all through the short walk down the aisle and soon, a pale hand tightly grasped the outstretched one of the unfairly stunning man.

Zero would have been pissed at the look of utter serenity on that stupidly handsome face if not for the truth clearly betrayed by their eternal connection. If he had any unknown worries, all dissipated when he felt the almost unnoticeable tremor through the hand squeezing his.

Ha.

He almost laughed at how ridiculous both of them were. Instead, an exquisite smile that stunned their family, friends, guests, the officiant and even his mate appeared.

'No longer nervous, my love?'

'Well, one of us has to be calm or we're screwed.'

A soft, almost inaudible chuckle escaped the pureblood but no denial came through their private link. It seemed like no matter what, weddings would just always be this nerve-wrecking.

And the union with the person he loves, even more so.

The officiant droned, songs sung, special rituals performed, marriage license signed, vows told, and rings exchanged. Soon, unusually affected lavender orbs were gazing once more at uncharacteristically emotional russet orbs before soft lips touched his.

Thankfully, Zero did manage to keep his tears at bay.

Under the bright chandeliers of the Kuran Castle's banquet hall, vampires that were firmly loyal to the Vampire King and even some hunters who were close to the Royal Consort could be seen enjoying the lively atmosphere, sumptuous food, refreshing drinks and entertaining music.

Some tables were abandoned in favor of some spirited conversation while many others constantly occupied the dance floor. Even the pureblood princess could be seen joyously waltzing around with the king's aide together with the other distinguished figures who were currently part of Cross Academy's Night Class.

For some, it was the perfect opportunity to make connections and who could be the most ideal target other than the Royal Consort's only brother? The Aido family who was known to be the closest to the younger Kiryū was already swamped by all those who wish to make friends with them. Very soon enough, they'd surely find themselves getting rained on by marriage or business proposals by those more determined individuals.

One Aido Nagamichi could be seen gaily conversing with other aristocrats. Anyone could probably detect his glee from a mile away and all those who'd learn of the news he received from his only son that evening would probably understand why.

Unfortunately, no one could get closer to the Vampire King's brother-in-law due to the disposition of his current companion. No matter how brave, no one would soon test the temper of the famous young vampire hunter. Rumors of the nature of his turning ran rampant and all wondered about his abilities. Still, their curiosity was not as important as their life and so they were reduced to waiting until the hunter left their objective.

"Stop drinking. You're going to regret that in the morning." Ichiru chided, jealous at not being allowed to drink alcohol.

"'s fine. I'll sleep until noon. Problem solved." Kaito responded carelessly after finishing another flute of champagne.

'This classless moron is drinking champagne like beer.' The young silverette judged silently while finishing his nonalcoholic drink. He idly wondered if he could sneakily get a glass later. However, the likelihood he'd succeed…

"Ichiru."

Speak of the devil.

"H-Hana." The silverette guiltily turned to his lover and mate. He didn't know much about vampire mating and so was totally caught off-guard by the bond mated couples share. Embarrassingly, Hana could now perceive all of his thoughts. Sure enough, he was handed another glass of nonalcoholic drink.

'You'll get a hangover.'

'Just one glass. I'll be fine.'

'You said that during the wine and champagne tasting.'

At the reminder of his low alcohol tolerance, Ichiru couldn't help but feel petulant. He thought he'd have another vampire perk and be immune to alcohol but he was proven wrong.

'You still don't even remember how we got mated.'

Scarlet glow covered every inch of Ichiru's pale skin at the reminder.

Right.

He also remembered how he swore never to drink again after getting hit by his lover's full-blown sulking at his inability to remember that night. 'I won't drink.'

The silently watching and rather clueless ash-brown haired vampire hunter smirked at his kohai's reactions and offered, "If you can't laugh at yourself, I can help you out."

He had thankfully already forgotten being completely bewildered by their newly mated couple's scent.

God.

That week was the most awkward one he'd ever had.

He didn't want to remember how many times he tried to dodge his older brother and how many times he had to protect his new mate from all the censures and teasing that Hana didn't deserve.

"Shut up. I'm going to see nii-san." Ichiru immediately escaped to the private balcony currently housing the newlywedded couple. However, no matter how flustered, he didn't forget to take his mate with him which awarded him a smile from the striking blonde.

Annoyingly, the ever-so-tactless vampire hunter had to tag along.

They found that Yuki and the Chairman had already joined the Royal Consort and was in the process of annoying him based on Zero's expression.

"Why are you thinking about that now? We already had one during this school year. The one for next school year shouldn't happen in a couple of months!"

"Zero-kun, our junior high school division only had one school trip but our high school division always had two! We cancelled the autumn trip because it would be dangerous for you!" Sniffed the Chairman.

Wasn't it because of Rido? He stared stonily at his guardian. Why must he deal with this on this day? "Just go anywhere."

"No! The first one is after your delivery so it should be somewhere safe for my granddaughter!" Insisted the blonde while gripping his white handkerchief tightly. He seemed moments away from biting it like an aggrieved young mistress.

"Stop being unreasonable. Anne must at least be three months old before she can travel." Zero stressed with finality while accepting a drink from his newly arrived husband.

Kaname sharply looked at his friend who immediately relented.

"Ugh. Fine. But how about the autumn trip?" Kaien would of course never endanger his granddaughter.

Why are you even asking me? "Just go to Kyoto again."

We're already going to Kyoto on a family trip! "We went there last school year, Zero! It's a really important topic! School trips are special to high school students!" Yuki whined. Weren't these events the perfect opportunity to harness romance?! She was no longer a single dog so she must enjoy this!

"We must help my little lambs have the opportunity to confess their feelings and meet new people to develop romance!" The Chairman asserted strongly.

Why didn't you just build a matchmaking agency instead? The silver hunter couldn't even be bothered to comment on their rather misguided reason for holding school trips. He was sure that his guardian was just trying to annoy him on purpose.

Fortunately, Kiryū Ichiru was there to rescue his brother. He was starting to become even more reliable. That, or he was trying to earn brownie points so his brother won't pick on Hanabusa anymore. After all, he couldn't count on his brother-in-law for he would do anything the older Kiryū wished. He'd even torment his loyal vassals if it was what his mate wished for.

"That's easy, Chairman! Let's go to Paris! It's also nice at night so the Night Class should be fine with it." Well, given how rich they are, they probably go there whenever they want to go shopping, but oh well.

"The idea has merit, Ichirun! It has perfect places to profess your undying love!"

"Y-yeah." Ichiru faltered at that long-lost, unwanted nickname. He prayed to all deities who'd hear that Kaito and Hana would never pick it up.

"Good job, Ichirun." Kaito insincerely praised.

Fucker.

The younger silverette couldn't help but curse his senpai aloud which turned into petty bickering. Hana, Yuki and the Chairman tried to alleviate the situation though all the success they had was intensify the squabble. Zero was relieved that his children were taking care of the guests on their stead and were not there to witness this embarrassment. It would just give adults a bad name.

"While we're on the subject," Kaname turned to his husband, ignoring the chaotic group. "I have never heard the reason why you love me."

Zero stared at him, eyes wide, and was frozen for many minutes. He didn't want to answer and would never have had it not for that smile on that stupid face silently telling him he would wait even for forever just to hear the answer. "How would I know?" The hunter frowned, looking away. "I just know that loving you saved me."

His confession was only met with silence. The silverette nervously contemplated if he had said anything wrong as Kaname didn't tease him like he thought he would. Ever slowly, he turned to face his pureblood and gape as he beheld his almighty husband turning the other way with a hand covering his lips. When he noticed the flush that was covering Kaname's cheeks to his ear, Zero unconsciously blushed as well.

He cursed. "That's what you get for being stupid." He hissed, not knowing what to do with himself. Stupid bastard. Now, he was embarrassed too. Damn it. Zero was still shouting profanities inside his head when his arm was suddenly pulled by his pureblood and he was crushed in an embrace.

They only stopped when several coughs resounded to gain their attention. Zero starred wide-eyed at the blushing and leering faces of Yuki, Ichiru, the Chairman, a newly-arrived Ichijou and the disgruntled but also blushing faces of Aido and Kaito and the cheerful smiles of their children that just walked in. Why did they have show up now? He pushed Kaname away but his hands were only arrested by a highly entertained pureblood.

"Shall we give them a memorable token for our wedding?" Kaname quietly asked through his smile. His voice hinted mischievousness.

"I swear Kaname, if-," He started in a vehement tone but was cut off by his husband's soft lips.

"Fuck, I'm not drunk enough for this." Kaito grumbled, moving away from the hazardous newlyweds.

"Kaito-san, drinking alcohol won't solve your problems." Anne worriedly beseeched.

"Well, drinking tea also wouldn't." Since the first moment he had tasted alcohol, Kaito had become a believer of a certain principle: If alcohol didn't solve his problems, then it meant that he still hadn't drank enough.

The Royal Princess could only hold her cheek in concern, unable to refute, her brothers marveling and snickering somewhere near her. They were surely picking up bad rationale that would give their parents a headache in the future.

"Really, nii-sama…" Yuki sighed. Blushing face turned away from the sickeningly sweet display.

"Oh well, with this I think nii-san will be willing to take a month off my cleaning duty." Ichiru whistled. He clicked the camera he fished out from his suit jacket at the two wrestling lovers while frowning at the Chairman's inhumanly fast way of taking photographs.

"That's brilliant!" Yuki exclaimed, looking around for any cameras she could borrow. Why didn't she think of that? Well, it was a good thing she still had the sister-in-law card she could use to slave Zero away.

While the pureblood princess knew it was only wishful thinking, it was still enough to make her smile throughout the night.

Having seen the couple giving everyone present a terrible toothache, lavender orbs left the bright screen of his digital camera to ask his lover, "Why did you choose me?"

Surprised sapphire orbs met genuinely questioning amethysts. "Wrong. I didn't choose you." Hanabusa smiled as he corrected Ichiru. "We met." He smiled at his lover's blush. "I think even if we had met under different circumstances, I'd still fall in love with you like I do now."

There was a strong gust of wind somewhere that took his breath away. The silverette's mind was filled with words that quite unable to escape his lips because of the emotions choking him, impeding his ability to speak. "Yeah." 'Me too.'

It was a good thing that even after all the things the previous president did, the younger ones were not disillusioned about the absolute goodness and justice of the Hunters and the ultimate evil of the vampires. They learned that races do not determine one's nature. Not all hunters were righteous and not all vampires were malicious. It was for this reason that no one opposed the newly-turned vampire from training the new recruits.

However, good and evil aside, the poor, naïve aspiring hunters soon learned that no matter the specie, Takamiya Kaito would always be an unchanging asshole.

One Kiryū Ichiru berated himself for not speaking up and contesting the new president's decision. How could he have forgotten that lunatic almost got him and his twin killed when he was trying to babysit them? Which sane person would bring two 7 years-old to a mission? He was the type of person who would think that beating a dog hard enough would enable it to learn tricks! Why did he ever think he could ever handle Kaito? Talk about famous last words.

Of course, now, he found himself and eleven other trainees surrounded by thirty or more level Es without even a week of training. Seriously?! This was done by tenured hunters in groups! That insane bastard!

"Don't worry, kids. I don't discriminate. Starting today, the world become a wonderful place where everyone is equal."

The look on the bastard's face made something inside them churn in ominous foreboding.

"That place wouldn't be hell, by any chance, would it?" Ichiru seriously questioned.

"Look at this rude bastard. I'm just looking out for you."

Despite the young man's words, the guilt that the silverette should be feeling at his lack of faith towards an old friend didn't come. Ichiru could still, after all, remember the last time the asshole named Takamiya 'looked after him'. He swore he almost died.

"Why? Did you think that I would pick this mission if I didn't think you could all survive this?"

"Bastard, you didn't even teach us anything useful!"

"Fuck, this is the third session! Third! We're not yet ready!"

The brunette clicked his tongue in disappointment. "Do you think you'll learn how to be hunters in a classroom?" He then turned to the silverette who had known him the longest in the group. "Do you trust me?"

"Of course not." Ichiru resolutely answered.

The new trainer would have been pissed off if he was not so impressed. "You've gotten smarter." Kaito begrudgingly praised while nodding. "But really, when have I ever been wrong?"

"Uh, I remember almost getting-…" Ichiru tried to answer honestly.

"Shut up. That was one time. One time. Just follow plan A."

"What if plan A doesn't work?" One nervous trainee asked, hands shaking a little.

"Don't worry, princess, there are still 25 more letters in the alphabet. Let's go!"

Fuck.

"We're going to die, aren't we?" All, except the lunatic trainer, thought as one.

"Takamiya! You said we're going to be training! You fucking liar!" Wasn't this just suicide?

"Shut 'yer traps, you ingrates! I'm telling you, you'll get enough exercise from pushing your luck! Now, go!"

'Hana, if I die, wait at least three years before finding someone new.'

'I'll come over there right away.'

Ichiru immediately tried to dissuade his mate but he could tell that the blonde had already made up his mind to come where he was. While feeling guilty, he was also glad that he'd have a getaway just in case he couldn't control his temper and really hacked their incompetent trainer to pieces.

As if developing internal central communication, all the young hunter trainees thought about the likelihood that they'd be able to get away stabbing that motherfucker in the back. "I want to kill him." They all hissed in unison.

"You won't be able to if you continue to move like pansies." Hollered the brunette from the front. "Get your asses moving faster!"

They wanted to retort and throw some punches even though they knew it would be next to impossible to best that talented hunter who gained superhuman reflexes after being turned. They had no choice but to settle with channeling their frustration and anger in slaying the mob of enemies they met soon after.

They watched their enemies turn to dust while imagining that it was the head of the asshole who put them in that situation. Said demon was up on the roof shouting instructions and taunting them all into action.

"Oi, you lame-asses, I told you to keep your posture! Hold on to your weapon tighter! You think you can kill them with just your fists? Look at your opponents! Focus, you idiots! Read their next move! Steady your breathing. Are you already tired with just this much? Trust your instincts. Aren't you hunters?!"

Miraculously, all the trainees found themselves still alive by the end of the unbelievable 'hands-on' training from the bastard named Takamiya, half-insane but all limbs still intact.

"A little disappointing, but not bad for noobs." Kaito commented nonchalantly after landing soundlessly in the middle of the drained heap on the ground.

Ichiru was beyond exhausted but his middle finger still twitched with the desire to give a standing ovation. What was this fucker even saying?

'Hana, I'm alive but I want to kill someone now.'

'Shall I help you?'

Before he could communicate his wholehearted agreement, his phone rang. Answering immediately, wondering if it was his mate who'd be planning Kaito's murder with him but to his confusion, it was his adopted-sister who was calling him.

"Hello, Yuki. What's wrong?" After listening for a while, Ichiru jumped on his feet in bewilderment and shouted, "Nii-san was what?!"

Why didn't he take notice of it?

But really, he should have seen it coming. Especially when his lovely eldest started humming tunes to herself while checking her video cameras, its batteries and memory cards as if for a grand preparation. Or when his beloved children wouldn't even flinch and would simply comfort him when he got contractions so bad he thought he would give birth already which would send the Chairman, Ichiru and Yuki to a panic frenzy. Clearly, they knew better.

They really should have insisted of knowing their birthdates. While their preparations were still perfect without it and that the pain he'd be feeling would still be the same even with the knowledge of it, it would still have been better to be aware. He wondered if his children had just played a prank on him.

The silver hunter's day was going as well as it could for someone who'd give birth at any moment when a lancing pain that made all previous contractions seemed like papercuts in comparison cut off all notions of a peaceful afternoon. It felt like someone was squeezing his innards and slowly but surely breaking his bones. The ache in his back and lower abdomen were almost unbearable. The shout of pain he had wanted to let out got trapped in his throat at the inexplicable pain that suddenly attacked him.

It was most fortunate that the bond that often irritated him could be put into better use and in no time at all, the Vampire King himself had violently opened the door to their bedchamber. Zero couldn't really remember anything while he was busy trying not to pass out from the pain but when the torment finally passed, he already found himself inside the room they had prepared for the birth. The doctors, nurses and midwife already there on standby were already surrounding him and were busy preparing.

"Onii-sama!" Yuki, together with the rest of the Night Class and the children, immediately followed the potent aura of the Vampire King. Based on the fierce scent of danger surrounding her brother, they could already tell that the time of birth had truly come.

"Kaname, I think we should go outside, in the waiting room." Takuma coaxed gently while forcefully trying to dislodge his friend's hand from his mate. The staff wouldn't be able to work efficiently with the Vampire King's aura hovering them like a death scythe.

With Akatsuki's and Shiki's help, they finally managed to drag their president out of the door. Takuma was grateful that his friend hadn't truly lost his composure. If Kaname had been more agitated, they'd probably be thrown out of the window. Of course, this meant that the death scythe was now hovering above their own heads.

After the little royals encouraged and kissed their silver parent, all unnecessary personnels were grounded to the waiting room. The pureblood princes could be seen making several phone calls and soon enough, the Chairman had come barreling into the waiting room.

"Is my granddaughter finally here?"

"Don't be silly, Chairman. She won't be here until hours later. I already read about it; it should take about half a day. Though it might be shorter since Zero's case is a little different." Yuki sagely informed, knowledgeable for once.

There was a sudden chill that filled the room. This was certainly a gloomy piece of news. Did that mean they must endure the feeling of being in the death row for a few more hours?!

One Akatsuki Kain wished he had accompanied his besotted cousin instead. Eating dog food was less painful than this!

About an hour later, said cousin also arrived with the younger silverette but by that time, all the nobles were already ashen-faced, ready to melt on the floor. Even Shiki Senri was uncharacteristically awake but then again, no one could possibly sleep soundly when a boat was sinking or a plane was crashing.

"Chichiue, please calm down." Kohaku entreated once more, for his uncles' and aunts' sakes. The dark aura rescinded if only for a bit and so the Kuran heir finally turned to the other Night Class and mercifully dismissed them. After all, there was really nothing else for them to do there.

All the other nobles except for Aido and Ichijou went out. The grateful nobles let out relieved sighs once they were out of the room. Thanks to the barrier present in the delivery and waiting rooms, the aura of displeasure of their monarch wouldn't come to hunt them in their beds. They could only hope that they won't be rudely awaken later. Considering how the eldest Royal Princess was enjoying the moment, they didn't need to worry too much.

With the room relatively more peaceful than hours before, four pairs of lilac, three pairs of auburn, and a pair of emerald, blue and hazel orbs followed the pacing pureblood. Amusement clearly etched deep in their eyes but no one dared say anything lest they experience the full brunt of the Vampire King's distress though some were really just too entertained to make him stop.

They were surrounded by a tense and suffocating atmosphere which managed to keep the other nobles away. Though they knew of the good news since the child that they were waiting to be born was currently sitting with them, a camera recorder at hand to record the waiting scene of her own birth with her grandfather mirroring her actions, they couldn't be quite at ease because of the agitation and anxiousness that seeped from the pureblood. Yuki and Ichiru only sighed at the sight of the restless king but before they could voice their plea for his calm, he already spoke his question.

Again.

"What time will it be finished? Why aren't they finished yet? Why are there no words from inside?" He asked continuously. Burgundy orbs glared at the big oak double-doors of the room that housed his lover currently in labor. He could feel that Zero was in pain. He was hard pressed to keep himself inside this room and not invade the other lest he interfere with the birth.

The impatience, distress and tension at the edge of his voice and the concern flashing in his burgundy eyes were evident despite the stoic expression he was still trying to maintain. It made the occupants worry (for him rather than Zero for he looked ready to barge inside the other room) and smile (at the sweet and rare antics of the pureblood).

Yuki sighed, unable to take it anymore. "Nii-sama, please calm down. It's still just the labor, the birth itself wouldn't even happen yet. They might just be doing preparations. You've been asking that question several times now and they haven't even started yet."

"That's right, Kaname-kun. It will take them awhile so why don't you join us and have some tea?" Kaien gaily offered, unknowingly courting death with his high pitched and excited tone.

He threw one last anxious glare at the innocent doors and was about to sit down when a most pained and distress yell from his hunter resounded from the other room. The pureblood was immediately on his feet and was followed by his children who intercepted him in his unconscious approach to enter the birthing room. Unbeknownst to him, his mask just completely slipped and shattered. He couldn't contain himself when he heard another pained groaned from the other side of the hateful doors.

"Chichiue, please calm down." Kohaku pleaded, while holding his hand. His father's aura whipped inside the room and rubbed distress among the other occupants.

"Otou-chan will be fine… This uhm, this is normal. I assure you." The older princess calmly tried to convince him. After having experienced the same thing during the two other glorious births of her baby brothers and sister, she knew better than to panic. She was assured enough to feel entertained at the knowledge that their beloved father had been the same in all their births. Dear me, it seems chichiue never developed a strong heart against childbirths though I distinctly remembered him being rather calm when it came to Yuki-bachan's and Ichiji's… it must because it's otou-chan. She mused.

"That's right." Akira started though he wavered at the sound of another muffled grunt full of pain from their parent. "Err, he'll survive this." He stopped at that, not knowing what other words of comfort to offer when the room was full of the hurt shouts and groans from their beloved silver haired father.

The children gathered around Kaname. The brunette twins held both his hands while the young silverettes hugged his thighs. The eldest brunette was happily situated at the direct front, for better angle of course, and placed her free hand on his stomach as help to keep him in the waiting room.

They looked at the amusing sight of their father. The eldest unable to resist the temptation of pointing the recorder at him wearing a horrified and anxious expression. With strained wine-colored orbs still intent at the infernal door, confounded, like it just spouted insults he had never heard before in the course of his entire existence.

Hours stretched painfully slow for the pureblood. The usually warm bond was overflowing with agony that was alarming his instinct. He knew his mate was in pain but there was nothing he could do. Still, he was sensible enough to know that barging into the other room would do more harm than good and though he was already half-insane with worry, he'd never do anything that could potentially harm his daughter. Not to mention, his mate would probably be out for his life should he do anything foolish now.

After what seemed to be a terrible eternity, a most welcomed cry was heard from the other room. Through their bond, Kaname knew that their daughter was finally born. There were exclamations of joy everywhere but all the pureblood could do was impatiently wait for someone to allow him to be with his mate.

As if hearing his silent but tenacious command, a nurse opened the door to allow him entry. Losing no time at all, Kaname immediately entered the room just in time for his lovely consort to receive the small bundle of happiness from a smiling midwife, a nurse who had wiped his sweat and helped him position himself more comfortably by his side.

Suddenly, the brunette was arrested by the beautiful image and the truth it presented. Overwhelming feelings of affections and gratitude filled him. He didn't know if it was from him or his mate but he let it reign nonetheless. There was a sudden urge to cry but he held it in. It may all be for naught though for even without anyone's remark, he knew that this was the most disturbed and disorganized he has ever been.

"Don't just stand there stupidly, come here." Zero admonished softly, trying not to agitate the newborn who had just stopped crying.

Their firstborn still looked reddish and rather wrinkly but he'd fight anyone who'd describe her as anything less than lovely. She was so beautiful that emotions stung his eyes. The pleasant but still faint smell of Lily of the Valley permeated her soft skin. He couldn't understand how such an angelic being could come from him.

"She's absolutely beautiful, my love." Kaname smiled as he half-embraced his husband so he could help him support their beloved firstborn.

The couple would have been contented to spend the rest of the day simply staring at the little treasure but they knew that some creatures, namely the invincible Cross Kaien, wouldn't be satisfied being kept away from his granddaughter.

Lavender orbs caught several pairs of burgundy and dark amethysts of his other treasures who were still tactfully observing them from behind the large doors. His smile indicated a silent consent and soon enough, they were surrounded by the lively crowd of their wondrous family.

"Kyaaa~! My granddaughter!" Kaien, who couldn't wait to introduce himself to the little darling, squealed in joy. "You can call me 'grandpa'!"

"Idiot is alright for that monkey."

"Wah! Don't teach my granddaughter bad words!"

"Baby, I'm uncle Ichiru."

"Baby Anne! I'm your aunt Yuki!"

"No." Zero said quietly. Looking at the small pink face, bundled with the softest fabric for she was that precious, he couldn't think of her as an 'Anne'. No, his treasure wouldn't be called as such. It was somehow not enough and unbefitting of her who was too beautiful and too loved. "That's not her name."

"Kazue."

Confused pairs of eyes went from the silver hunter to the Vampire King who was looking at the grown child standing beside her father's bed. Said child sported a look of amazement and wonderment.

Kaname put a hand on the mahogany head of his eldest, a rare dazzlingly broad smile on his lips. Lights danced in his russet eyes. "Your name is Kazue, isn't it?"

Amidst the confused inquiries and fuss the other adults in the room made, the child just looked up at her parents, her bow shaped lips parted in surprise. Small hands clutched a fistful of her skirts in a decidedly childish fashion. After a while, she finally managed to form the words, "H-how?"

"More like, why would you want to change your own name?" Zero asked, a silver eyebrow arched slightly.

The question jolted the princess and agitatedly started, "T-that! O-otou-ch-,"

"Nah. Don't answer that. I already have a feeling and it will only piss me off." The hunter grunted, freeing a hand so he could pinch his eldest daughter's nose and move it from side to side. He had no trouble coming to the conclusion that all this trouble was because of a certain infuriating senpai of his. Said senpai was in the middle of numerous missions and wherever he may be, he wished that he trips and break his nose even just once.

"I'b shorree, ochoou-cha, chichieeee…" Kazue apologized while holding on to her otou-chan's hand that was still pinching her nose.

The pureblood king chuckled and the other children beamed while watching. Even though still confused at the conversation and the sudden name change, the other adults in the room merely exchanged looks and smile. Maybe someday, Zero or Kaname would tell them.

"Well, Kazue is a beautiful name." The headmaster offered, nodding. The faithful device in his hand still recording.

"Yeah! Cute!" Yuki squealed.

"Kazue-chan, eh? With kanji for 'one' and 'favor'?" Ichiru asked, one pale finger placed on his chin in a wondering manner.

"No." Zero answered, finally letting go of his daughter's nose before it falls clean off her face. "It's 'Kazu' for harmony," He looked at all his children then his husband before continuing, "and 'e' for blessing."

Loving burgundy orbs met the astonishing sight of his hunter with his lavender eyes crinkling slightly, an open display of the elation he was feeling. The other adult members of their grown family didn't even remark at the rare demonstration of delight from the normally gruff hunter. All of them merely mirrored the smile that could be seen on the new parents' faces.

So many things happened to them. The remembrance of how things were before and after the children stumbled upon them made their smiles wider. All the struggles they endured and the feelings they were forced to realize, everything that came to pass brought them exactly to that particular moment. All started because of this very dramatic child who wanted to escape punishment.

Yes.

Indeed.
