Seeing Heroes in Action
The children left the village and were about to return to the palace until they heard a rumbling sound nearby. Mystery decided to fly in and check it out with Jirachi beside her. When she got there, she saw a giant red scorpion. The scorpion noticed her and sprayed a poisonous liquid from the stinger on the tip of its tail. Mystery managed to evade it, but gasped as she saw the rocks nearby dissolve from the acid. She knew right away that she was going to need help from her friends.
She flew back and told everyone what was happening. "It's a giant scorpion," she informed them. "I tried to go in for a closer look, but it attacked me."
"It has sharp claws and it shoots acid from its stinger," Jirachi added.
"So it's dangerous," said Joseph. "We have to stop it before it reaches any villages and harms anyone." He smiles at Lion-O. "Well, Lion-O, it looks like you're finally going to get to see us in action."
The Thunderian prince was excited. He had been looking forward to this. Snarf, on the other hand, wasn't sure. "I think it would be best if Lion-O and I watched from a safe distance."
"I agree with you, Snarf," said Mahad. "We'll also watch your backs and make sure the monster doesn't attack you."
"We've got no time to lose," said Mystery.
Together, they all cried, "Children of Millennia, ho!" and raised their fists in the air.
They all made it to the ravine and saw the scorpion trying to climb out. "Our best chance is to attack it from far away so we don't get caught in its claws," said Mahad.
Seto agreed. "We can also put protective enchantments on ourselves to repel the acid in case it sprays us."
"I can have Trapinch dig holes in the ground so the scorpion will lose its footing and get stuck," Joseph suggested.
The older brunette nodded. "If we're going to do it, let's do it."
The blonde nodded back and removed the band securing his partner's mouth. "You know what to do, Trapinch." The giant red ant snaps his teeth in response and starts burrowing into the ground.
"I will distract the scorpion as I fly around," said Mystery. "Kisara, Freya, can you cover me?"
"Count on it," said the older cousin. "Kirara!" The nekomata changes her size and becomes a big cat. The two cousins climb on her back and they start flying above the scorpion.
Mystery makes the first move by using a flame spell called Fire Boquet, bombarding the scorpion with giant wisps. Jirachi helps by using Swift, unleashing a shower of gold stars.
Kisara held her dragon staff in her hand. "I guess it's time for us to see what our weapons can do," she said to her cousin.
Freya agreed and got her sling ready. "You have the first move, Cousin."
Kisara holds her staff and concentrates. Please, she prays, help us to protect our friends. She points her staff towards the scorpion and releases white lights in the forms of dragons. The dragons attack the scorpion and knock it off balance. The scorpion sprays acid from its stinger once again, trying to attack the cousins, but Kisara holds up her staff and creates a barrier of light, shielding them and purifying the acid.
It was Freya's turn. She takes a fireball from her pouch at her waist and tosses it with her sling. It grows larger as it zings towards the scorpion, then bounces off after burning the giant insect and makes its way back to Freya. She catches it and secures it back inside her pouch.
Watching from above, Joseph sees that the scorpion is having a hard time moving around. "It looks like it's stuck. I'm going to take a shot." He draws his bow and takes an arrow from his quiver. Taking aim, he releases the arrow and manages to strike its body. The arrow then gives off an electric surge, stunning the giant insect and paralyzing it.
Joseph was surprised. "My bow and arrows have lightning powers," he gasped.
"You should be glad for that," said Seto. "The power of your arrow has rendered the scorpion paralyzed. Now we can fight it head-on."
"It can still spray acid from its stinger," Mahad pointed out. "That means we'll have to disarm it somehow."
Atem had an idea. "Perhaps I can use my sword to sever the stinger from its tail."
Mahad was against it. "Cutting off the stinger like that will also release its blood and poison. At a close range like that, you could risk getting it in your system as you breathe it in."
"He's right," Seto agreed. "We'll use our magic to disarm it. You and Mana can help by getting everyone else's attention and telling them to pull back."
Atem looked at her. "Let's do it, Mana."
She nods and raises her magic wand in the air and releases a pink light, turning into sparks. The girls see the signal and hurry back to their friends. As Kirara flies back, the scorpion manages to strike her with its tail, scratching her while also injecting its poison into her. Weakened, Kirara falls down and Kisara and Freya tumble off her back.
"Kisara, Freya," Mystery cries. The scorpion sprays its acid once more, but Jirachi uses Psychic to stop the acid and redirect it to the rocks.
"They need help down there," Lion-O cried.
"You go and help them, Seto," said Mahad. "I will stay here with the others."
"But, Mahad–," Lion-O protested.
"I promised your father I would keep you safe," the young mage interrupted. "Protecting you is my responsibility. I can't let anyone else here get hurt either." And his amulet starts glowing.
"Mahad, your amulet," Snarf said.
"Never mind that now," he snapped.
Seto saw it too and it gave him an idea. "Wait, Mahad, I have an idea. I'll use my magic to disarm the scorpion. You can help the girls while still keeping everyone else safe."
"But how?" the young mage asked.
Seto reminded him of the time the power of his amulet saved him when they all battled another monster a few weeks ago. A snake demon had Mahad in its grasp, but the young mage was able to escape when his amulet resonated with his element and its magic teleported him out of the snake's grip. It gave Seto the idea that with the power of his amulet combined with his own magic, Mahad could create a protective enchantment that would protect him and the others from the scorpion's acid.
Mahad listened to Seto's idea and understood. It was worth a try. He even saw Seto's own amulet glowing. He nodded, agreeing to go with the plan. Atem still wanted to help. Mahad was about to protest once more, but Seto agreed to let him help. He decided that the prince should be the one to disarm the scorpion and he would use his own magic to assist him.
With that being settled, everyone began to scale down into the ravine. Mahad began casting his magic, hoping it would shield everyone. Seto used his own magic to lift Atem up to the scorpion's tail. The prince swung his sword and severed the stinger. However, no blood or acid was released. It turned out that as Atem's sword cut right through, it released some sort of ice magic, freezing the wound from the cut. A few seconds later, the scorpion finally stopped moving. Its last energy had been spent. At the same time, Trapinch came up from the ground and scurried back to Joseph.
Now that the battle was over, Atem and the others could tend to the girls, starting with Kisara and Freya. Lion-O approached the cousins. "Kisara, Freya, are you girls all right?"
"You girls took a nasty fall after Kirara was attacked by that scorpion," said Snarf.
"Oh, I'm all right," Kisara insisted as Seto was helping her up. "That happens sometimes, so I'm used to it."
Freya was used to it too. "Poor Kirara," she said, seeing the nekomata on the ground and back to her original size as a small cat.
Mystery placed her hand over Kirara's wound and began using a healing spell called Remedy, cleansing the poison from the cat's body and healing the wound.
"She'll be all right now," Mahad promised. "My skills in healing spells and applying medicine are fair, but Mystery's own healing magic is second to none."
"Of course it is," said Seto. "After all, she has the magic of the Millennium Star."
Jirachi coughed, indicating that he breathed in some of the poison as he was using his powers to stop the acid. Mystery began using Remedy on him as well. "You were so brave, Jirachi," she told him.
"You were all brave," said Lion-O. "The way you executed your strategies, how you all worked together to beat that monster, the way your own monsters helped out, your magic and your weapons, it was all so amazing. I've never seen anything like it."
Snarf agreed. "I admit you all had me worried, but I'm just as astounded. You kids are the genuine article; the real deal."
"But even I'm surprised," Atem admitted. "We never knew what kinds of powers our weapons had until now." He looks down at his sword. "My sword is apparently filled with ice magic. It froze the scorpion's tail even as I severed its stinger."
"And you saw that my bow and arrows had lightning magic," Joseph added.
Freya was surprised with her own weapon as well. "And when I touched the fireball from my pouch, it didn't even hurt me. After it bombarded the scorpion, it bounced back to me."
Kisara looked at her staff. "My dragon staff appears to have light magic. It's quite fitting, given I do represent the element of light. Well, now that we know what our weapons can do, there's no doubt they'll surely come in handy here in Egypt as well as back in Thundera."
"I can't wait to tell everyone what happened when I get home," said Lion-O.
"You mean, now?" Mystery asked.
"Don't you want to stay for a few more days?" Jirachi asked.
"It's nice of you to offer, Jirachi," Snarf was saying, "but I think we've had all the excitement we can take."
"I know it's only been a short time, but I've already seen and learned so much about your world and I want to share everything I've learned with everyone back home."
Mystery giggled, understanding what he meant. "I see what you mean. However, it's starting to get late. We need to get back to the palace before we get in bigger trouble."
Atem agreed. "Lion-O, Snarf, why don't you spend another night in the palace? We can take you back to Thundera tomorrow morning."
"We might as well," Snarf said to Lion-O.
The Thunderian prince agreed. "We would like that. But after an exciting day like today, I don't think I'll be able to sleep." And they all laughed.
