The sun was heavy in its heat. Insects were buzzing, animals were scurrying and roaming, and Rick got ready for a much needed nap. His body was poking out of the enormous cave he called home, tucked away deep into the forest and embedded into the side of a mountain. He soaked up as much of the sun's warmth as his azure scales would allow, his head resting on his folded forelegs and a contented growl left his throat. He opened one eye lazily and watched a small rabbit hop around beneath the foliage, actively creating a wide berth so as to not encroach on his territory.

Rick huffed a breath through his snout, loud and approving. The animals were smart to avoid him lest they be eaten or killed and he was pleased with that intimidating presence; it kept unwanted company away and the tranquility of his space remained—he preferred solitude. He felt a rock bound off his flank and he huffed again, at least that's how it should've been but an increasingly annoying thing had found him and as much as Rick tried to ignore them, they pestered on. First it was yelling, then it was throwing, and now it was an irritating combination of both.

"Hey! You big lizard!" The human yelled up at him, face contorted into a frown and arms full of rocks at the ready.

Rick paid them no mind and continued to try and let sleep take him and drown out the hindrance. But another rock was thrown that bounced off the side of his neck, and then another that missed him but he heard it as it sailed past his ear, as one more hit his flank again he'd already become fed up. He pushed his long and massive body to stand, almost towering over the trees and turned his heated gaze on the human who so boldly ignored his want for peace and quiet.

"WHAT!?" He roared loudly.

Birds that were perched high on the branches flew off, small cowered in the brushes, the insects went silent and other animals made themselves scarce at his anger. The human did not budge an inch much to Rick's aggravation and slight interest.

The human, in her long white fabric, placed her hands on her hips and held her ground. "My name is Michonne, the youngest princess of Alexandria and I've come seeking your help!"

Rick frowned. Alexandria, he knew of it—steeped in abundance and riches, the gods favored the land and it was a haven to the mythical creatures of the beyond. They were said to be one of the last who worshiped their kind and many of his species hunkered down within the territory, protecting and receiving offerings in return. But Rick didn't see the appeal—he disliked humans; they were loud, boisterous, entitled and power hungry. He's seen his fair share of human strife and he was always left wondering how such a species could survive this long with all the blood shed, sabotage and senseless pilfering.

Rick looked at the human more closely, noting how her once pristine white dress was dusted with dirt and mud, torn in places, and her tightly twisted hair was a mess of leaves and twigs. She'd traveled far, he did not live close to any cumbersome civilization.

"Please! I've traveled miles and miles to find you" the human pleaded.

Despite himself, Rick felt intrigued but not enough to ruin his afternoon with the woes and whims of such trouble. Surely there were more dragons near the city keen to communicate and interact, it was hard to wrap his head around why this human would rip their dress to shreds to come all the way out there.

"I'm certain there are many of my kind much more willing to adhere to you than me, why not speak to one of them?" He decided to ask.

"It's because they're so close to home" she said which only puzzled Rick more.

"You are a weird human…" he commented. Rick was curious now, "what do you want?" He hoped he wouldn't regret inquiring.

The human princess smiled brightly with relief. It told him that she hadn't been as confident as she seemed, probably afraid of being crushed underfoot or set ablaze if he'd been one of the more wild dragons.

"I want you to kidnap me," the princess blurted.

Rick was speechless. Which was a feat considering he rarely spoke to begin with but the bold mask of this human was surprising him at every turn.

"Why would I do that?" He really couldn't fathom what she was thinking.

The princess raised an eyebrow as though she hadn't expected that reaction and Rick wondered why that was. When he thought about it as he watched her look about for her own persuasive answer, he all but laughed humorlessly. She couldn't have possibly believed the tall tales passed about amongst their ill informed kind of ancient dragons screaming fire from their mouths and sitting on piles of skull and bones. Or the tales of them smoking at the mouth to harbour princesses in their caves? Surely being royalty of a land boasting relation with the mythical realm made her a little more educated. Though Rick never understood the humans' need to create myth and fakery, what exactly would he do with a princess? He relished his space, the sounds of nature, the warmth of the sun, the coolness of his cave—it was all he needed.

"I've read…about the ancient dragons and their eagerness to kidnap prominent figures," she said.

So she did believe those asinine stories. How disappointing, she'd lost his interest like rain running off of his back. "I don't like humans, leave" he growled, appalled at the mere notion he would harbor something so messy and annoying. Rick went back to his previous position, wholeheartedly set on ignoring the foolish princess.

"Please, I don't want to be married!" The princess called out.

Rick's ear twitched. Reluctantly he moved his head in her direction once more; she had come closer. Her eyes were bold, fierce and frightened—a wondrous shade of brown that was so deep and rich and had a twinkle that reminded him of gems. Rick was an avid collector of rare stones which was probably the only trait he shared with his species—a hunger for intriguing valuables.and he also chalked it up to the reason he was even entertaining this man because despite it all, this princess's eyes were beautiful.

"What would I get out of this exchange?" He grumbled. "If I were to kidnap you?"

He watched the human ponder his words. In truth, Rick didn't want anything from her, there was nothing this human could give that he would want.

"I could give you company?" The princess finally said.

Rick blanched before he let out a string of guttural rumbles that resembled laughter. "And why would I need your company?" He asked.

"On the way here, the whole forest was quiet and still and only a few animals roamed, it was completely different from the bustling woods near Alexandria. When I saw you lying here, you seemed a bit lonely…"she stated.

Rick glared at the human. "That's how I want it and yet you disturbed me so you can make a selfish command of me" he growled irritably, his anger pitching from seemingly nowhere.

The princess stepped back at his sudden hostility but Rick couldn't suppress it. He didn't like to be told what to do in his own territory, especially not from a human who traversed it as if she owned it. Now, this same human, was telling her how he felt!? He was not lonely, he preferred quiet solace.

"How about I kill you instead and get rid of you immediately!" Rick threatened. He leaned in menacingly to the human, whose beautiful eyes widened with fright. His breath blew her hair and clothes like a steady gust of wind was in the air.

"I don't owe you anything" Rick rumbled, "so don't ever enter my domain and speak on things you don't know, DO YOU HEAR ME HUMAN!?" The roar washed over the princess like a tsunami, the trees behind her bending with its force and the last remaining animals running away.

When all was settled he watched as the human's body shook and her head nodded frantically. He wasn't a young dragon that had no control over their powers nor was he some mindless being who ruled by emotion—something he'd seen in many of his kind, but Rick couldn't hold back the feelings this human's careless words brought in him.

"I'm sorry if I was out of line but I really need your help" she persisted and Rick could no longer ignore her.

"I've been betrothed in a marriage of convenience, as have been many sisters' fate before me but one I don't want for myself. I've rebelled, spoken my displeasure and yet my parents refuse to budge. So I ran in search of a way out. I asked the nearby dragons but they all directed me to you. They said you could help"

What the fuck? Rick was completely dumbfounded. Why him of all dragons? What were those imbeciles even talking about? He wasn't a refuge for something they didn't even want to deal with themselves. Rick vowed then that if he ever encountered any of those domestic lizards, he'd bury them in stone.

"Why not marry someone you've chosen then?"

"You mean someone I love?"

"If that's how it is"

The Princess sighed. "There isn't anyone that has capture my heart"

For a moment the two stared at one another before Rick spoke. "I want your eyes"

"W-what?" The princess was taken aback.

"If I kidnap you like you want then naturally I must get something in return. I want your eyes" he clarified.

"I can't give you my eyes," the princess said incredulously.

"Then keep walking. If I remember correctly, there is another dragon miles from here but whether they are wild and unforgiving or eager to be of help, I'm not so certain" Rick lied. He pushed to his feet, getting ready to disappear into his cave.

"Wait! Fine….i'll-i'll give them to you" the human said. "…my eyes"

Rick glanced back at the princess before he continued into the damp cave, acutely feeling the small footsteps of the human following him.
