Chapter 2
That morning, she and Luke were catching up over coffee in his kitchen. She had just got home, showered when Luke took Roxy for their morning run.
"So, you arrived this morning. Where were you?" Luke asked, leaning against the counter.
Michelle smirked, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "You wouldn't believe it. I met someone last night at a bar. We really hit it off. Let's just say the night got… very interesting."
"Interesting how?" Luke prodded, a knowing grin on his face.
"Let's just say I may be seeing her again hopefully," she teased, the memory of their shared laughter and chemistry flooding back.
Luke chuckled, "Sounds like someone had a good time. But are we talking about a romantic interest, or just a fleeting encounter?"
"Maybe a bit of both?" Michelle winked, her sarcasm dripping like honey. "I need to go, I am meeting Tara for coffee then viewing the last apartment on my list."
"I can come with?" says Luke. Michelle looks at him as she walks out the door shaking her heart No. He yells to her.; "Tara is my friend too, you know?"
The two women are sitting outside the café, enjoying their coffees.
"Okay, so picture this," Michelle began, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "I'm at this bar, and I spot this woman. She's stunning—like, 'turn heads as she walks in' stunning."
Tara leaned in, grinning. "Tell me more! What happened?"
"Long story short, one thing led to another, and before I knew it, we were… well, let's just say I woke up with a headache and a smile."
Tara laughed, nearly spilling her coffee. "So, this was a real 'what happens in Vegas' moment, huh?"
"Something like that but i left her my number to text me," Michelle said, raising an eyebrow playfully. "Hopefully or you could be my sidekick, solving case of a lost lover."
"Count me in!" Tara replied, grinning. "But first, let's focus on the real mission: finding you a place to live. You've got that last apartment to check out today, right?"
"Yeah, I've got high hopes for this one. I need a place that feels like home, especially now that I'm in D.C for good," Michelle said, standing up and gathering her things.
As they walk towards Michelle's car, Tara couldn't help but tease. "Just don't forget to ask about the neighbors. We don't want any more 'mystery women' popping up unexpectedly."
Michelle laughed, her confidence shining through. "I'll make sure to vet them thoroughly. If they're anything like Luke, I might need to keep the door locked."
When they arrived at the building, Tara looked up at the brick façade. "This has character," she said approvingly. They entered the lobby, and Michelle's excitement bubbled as they took the elevator to the fifth floor. Michelle wandered through the living room, envisioning her life in this space. "It really does," she said, a smile spreading across her face. "I could definitely see myself here."
"Don't over think," Tara said, she can tell that Michelle likes it. "Now, let's see if they'll accept your application."
It may be Sunday for some but back at the FBI building; Emily sat at her desk, the soft glow of her computer screen illuminating the cluttered workspace. She had been trying to concentrate on the case files scattered before her, but all she could think about was Michelle.
"Just text her," she muttered to herself, her fingers hovering over her phone. The temptation was unbearable. Finally, after what felt like an eternity of internal debate, she typed out a message: Hey, Want to come over for dinner?
The seconds dragged as she waited for a reply. Just as she considered overthinking it, her phone buzzed. Sounds great! What time?
Later that evening; When the doorbell rang, Emily's stomach did a little flip. She opened the door to find Michelle standing there, her trademark smirk plastered across her face. Dressed in a fitted blazer and jeans, she looked effortlessly chic, with her dark hair framing her sharp features.
"Hey there. Smells amazing in here," she said, a playful smile on her lips.
"Only the best for you," Emily replied, stepping aside to let her in. They moved to the dining table, and as they began to eat, the initial tension melted away, replaced by a comfortable rhythm.
"We never had a formal introduction," says Emily reaching for the wine glass. "I know you are new in town but what drawn you here?"
"I tend to piss off authority," Michelle chuckled placing her fork down, "A week ago if you asked me that question, I would have said cause of a dog or to be closer to my brother."
"Authority?"; Emily leans in on the table. She sees Michelle becoming lost in her thoughts. "It must be an important dog."
Michelle smiles and pulls out her phone, she shows Emily a picture.; "She is."
Emily leans closer smiling, slowly her smile fades and looks uncomfortable. Michelle notices and turn the phone to herself thinking the screen might have turn off, but the phone is fine. "Are you good?"
"the guy in the picture…"; says Emily taking a sip of her wine.
"Oh, that's my brother." Michelle says with a smile but Emily still looks faded. "Are you sure you are okay"
"Your name is Michelle Alvez?" replies Emily keeping eye contact with Michelle the whole time.
"Okay. How do you-. You're freaking me out," says Michelle standing up. "Can you tell me what's going on?"
Emily stands up and goes to the kitchen refilling her glass. "I think you need to go, am sorry."
"Excuse me?" Michelle walks to get closer like she didn't hear what she said. "Can you tell me what's going? You're acting really weird. How do you know my last name."
"I work with your brother, Luke Alvez," She says as she faces away. Emily spirals, mumbling. "I am your brother's boss. Oh my God!"
"Oh! Emily stop!"; yells Michelle as she grabs the glass out of her hand and shakes her to snap out of it. "Breathe!"
Emily inhales and exhales following her, then Michelle smirk. She pulls Emily in for a kiss and feels Emily's shoulders relaxes. Emily realizes what's going and quickly pushes her away. "Don't do that!"
"It worked, didn't?"; says Michelle.
"We can't do this I knew it was too good to be true."; says Emily walking towards the door and opening it. "I'm sorry."
Michelle walks towards the door, but leans in close to Emily. "I want you to say it. Tell me to leave and I'll walk out and never return. I don't regret anything."
Emily close the gap between them and couple of hours later they are tangled in Emily's sheets, cuddled up.
