Vince continued to run as he made his way outside of the science lab into the volcanic land that was Bowser's soon to be empire. Bowser resided in a volcanic land with lava all over the place. In the distance of where Vince stood, Bowser's castle could be seen in view.
Eventually, Vince finally stopped running and fell to his knees. His brain could not process what had happened or why he was feeling the way he was. All he wanted was for this feeling to go away.
"Vince!"
Startled by the voice, he looked up. In front of him was another Koopa Troopa, one that Vince knew well from his voice to the red shell he had on his back.
"Elijah?" Vince questioned. Elijah walked closer to him.
"What happened here?" Elijah asked. "One minute, everything's okay here and the next minute there's the shockwave of an explosion."
"There was a malfunction when they were testing," Vince answered, picking himself off the ground. "And I was the one being tested."
Vince reached his hand out to Elijah and suddenly shot lightning out of his hand. Elijah ducked to avoid the blast, practically lying on the ground. Eventually, the lightning stopped and Elijah was able to stand up again.
"Oh my god, I didn't mean to do that!" Vince yelled, practically freaking out.
"It's alright," Elijah replied. "What the hell even was that?"
"I don't know!" Vince replied. "I don't know where this came from. All I know is that I was being tested and then all of a sudden it starts short-circuiting and then somehow that led to lightning shooting out of my hands that I have little control over."
"Vince," a voice yells out to him. "We're not done with you yet."
Vince turned to look behind his shoulder to find Bowser standing at a distance.
"Sorry, sir." Vince replied as he started to walk away from Elijah. Once Vince made it to Bowser, he started heading back to the lab. Vince followed.
"Vince," Bowser began. "I have never seen anything like that before. What you did there was extraordinary."
"What? The lightning?" Vince asked.
"Yeah, that." Bowser answered him. "If molded correctly, we could make you a valuable asset to our super soldiers. Until then, we need to do some evaluating."
"This is...this is incredible!" Scheinstein said, behind another computer.
Bowser, Scheinstein, and the other Shy Guy scientists were now in the lab's research chamber, using several computers to scan the body of Vince, who was again restrained to a chair and this time surrounded by Shy Guys with spears.
"These are the highest electrical readings I've ever seen!"
"What do you think caused that?" Bowser asked.
"Considering the fact that the Brain Scanner was hooked to a satelite," Scheinstein began. "I can only assume that lightning had struck the satelite and short circuited the scanner."
He began to move his hand, or at least the nub that was his hand, down on his screen.
"Thus, the lightning had traveled through the electrical wiring of the Scanner and had then enfused that electricity into the Test Subject's body through his head."
"Interesting, Scheinstein," Bowser replied, a wicked grin forming on his face. "Very interesting indeed."
Bowser began to walk to a microphone. He picked it up and then held it up.
"Alright, let him go," Bowser spoke into the microphone. "We're done with him."
Immediately, the Shy Guys surrounding Vince began to unlock his restraints. Vince slowly moved off the chair, and the second his feet hit the ground he immediately ran out of the Research Chamber. As Bowser watched Vince leave, his evil grin once more appeared.
"Scheinstein, how powerful do you think he may be?" Bowser asked.
"From what I've seen, he could possibly wipe out entire cities," Scheinstein replied. "Test Subject #13 could be a superweapon beyond anything we've ever seen before."
"He's perfect!" Bowser exclaimed.
By the time Vince finally made it back home, it was somehow even darker than when he had previously been out. Vince lived in a small, but cozy shell shaped building alongside Elijah, his younger brother. There were several buildings like this, and they all had the same format: two small beds and a table.
Vince opened the door to the building to find Elijah sitting on his bed, a book in hand.
"Hey," Elijah said. "You okay there, Vince?"
"I guess," Vince replied, closing the door behind him. "Honestly, I'm just very exhausted."
"Alright, get some rest then," said Elijah. "You had a long day."
Vince climbed into his bed and turned onto his side. Elijah closed his book and then turned off the only light illuminating the house: a mere lamp. But despite the fact that all the lights were off, his mind was still racing, preventing Vince from falling asleep. Thoughts of Bowser and his uncertain future raced through his mind that night.
