Back at the Rose Mansion, the sun had fully set, casting a soft glow over the mansion's exterior as Ruby and Blake returned from their scavenger hunt, their steps quick with excitement. Ruby was practically bouncing with every step, clutching the bag that held their scavenger hunt items like a prized trophy. Blake, calm and collected as ever, trailed just behind her, a small smile playing at her lips.
"I told you, Blake, we've totally got this in the bag!" Ruby said, her voice filled with confidence as she reached for the door.
Blake chuckled softly. "I'm sure we do. But you might want to tone it down just a little before we walk in."
Ruby huffed. "What's the point of winning if you don't celebrate it properly?"
With a flourish, Ruby pushed open the door, only to find Yang and Weiss already seated in the living room, looking entirely too comfortable. Yang was lounging on the couch with her arms behind her head, a smug grin plastered on her face. Weiss sat primly beside her, arms crossed and an expression that bordered on exasperated amusement.
"Well, well, well," Yang drawled, her lilac eyes sparkling with mischief. "Look who finally decided to show up."
Ruby froze mid-step, her grin faltering for a brief second. "Wait. You guys beat us back?"
Yang shrugged casually. "What can I say? We're just that good."
Ruby narrowed her eyes, marching into the living room with Blake following behind. "No way! We worked so hard to get this stuff! I bet we've got better items than you."
Weiss sighed, glancing between the two sisters before pulling out her scroll. "Should we really be arguing over a scavenger hunt? This was supposed to be a fun team activity, not another competition."
Yang shot her a grin. "A fun competition."
Ruby, undeterred by Weiss's disapproval, plopped down on the floor and pulled out the items she and Blake had collected, laying them out on the coffee table with dramatic flair. "Alright, let's see what you've got! I bet our stuff's way better."
Yang leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees as she inspected Ruby and Blake's haul. "Alright, show us what you've got."
Ruby grinned, holding up the small glass figurine of Beacon Tower. "Behold! The best Vale souvenir! How can you top this? It's literally Vale in a tiny sculpture!"
Weiss raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "It's nice, but it's a bit... predictable, don't you think?"
Yang reached into her bag and pulled out a Vale flag, neatly folded and tied with a ribbon. "Boom. Vale flag. Functional and classy. Tell me that's not a perfect souvenir."
Ruby's eyes narrowed. "Pfft! Anyone can grab a flag! Ours is artistic!"
Blake, who had been quietly observing the back-and-forth, finally spoke. "We went for something unique."
Weiss, arms crossed, looked mildly intrigued. "What else did you find?"
Ruby beamed and pulled out the bright red scarf they'd bought earlier. "Look at this! It's red, it's warm, and it's stylish!"
Yang raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. "Okay, I'll give you that one. It's pretty cool."
Weiss, however, was less swayed. "It's a scarf. Not exactly groundbreaking."
Yang reached into her bag again and pulled out a small, hand-painted mug with the words Vale's Best scrawled across the front. "Check it out. This is exclusive to Vale's best bakery. We got this and the muffin. Top that, Ruby."
Ruby's eyes widened in disbelief. "A mug?! You can't bring a mug to a scavenger hunt! That's not fair!"
Yang laughed. "Sure I can. It's a Vale souvenir, and it's practical. Plus, we ate the muffin, so... double win."
Blake chuckled softly from her spot on the couch, watching the exchange with amusement. "Looks like they planned this out more than we thought."
Ruby pouted, clearly realizing they might not be as ahead as she thought. "Okay, fine. You guys have the mug, but we found the best muffin in Vale. No question about it."
Weiss shot her a look. "The same bakery we went to?"
Ruby blinked, her face falling. "Wait... You went to The Golden Crust?"
Yang grinned wide. "Yep. Best muffins in Vale."
Ruby threw her hands up in the air dramatically. "Ugh, seriously?! That was supposed to be our secret weapon!"
Blake, shaking her head in amusement, added, "We did find the blue feather, though."
Weiss's eyes flickered with mild surprise. "A blue feather? That's actually... not bad. Where did you find it?"
Ruby puffed out her chest proudly. "At this super exclusive tailor shop in the fabric district. You guys didn't think of that, did you?"
Yang rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "Hmm. Blue feather is definitely a win. I guess you did good, sis."
Ruby's face lit up, clearly pleased with the acknowledgment. "Ha! See? We're still in the game!"
Weiss let out a long sigh, rubbing her temples. "This scavenger hunt has turned into something way more competitive than I expected."
Yang shrugged. "What did you expect when you pit Ruby and me against each other?"
Blake leaned back, crossing her arms. "So, who's the winner then?"
Ruby and Yang both turned to Weiss, their eyes locked on her as if she held the final verdict. Weiss, caught in the middle, frowned deeply as she weighed the options.
"Well," Weiss began, her voice measured, "if we're comparing items purely on merit, I'd say the blue feather is the rarest find. But the mug is more... unique. So I suppose it's a tie."
"A tie?!" Ruby and Yang exclaimed in unison, both looking equally horrified.
Blake, stifling a laugh, gave Weiss a nod of approval. "Good call."
Yang grumbled but didn't seem too upset. "Fine, fine. A tie. But next time, we're settling this with something more definitive."
Ruby folded her arms, clearly still riding high on her scavenger hunt success. "You're on!"
Weiss rolled her eyes but couldn't help the small smile tugging at her lips. "Now that this is settled, can we finally enjoy the rest of the evening without another competition?"
Yang leaned back on the couch, her grin widening. "Oh, come on, Weiss. Where's the fun in that?"
Blake, amused by the whole ordeal, stood up and stretched. "Let's head into Vale and celebrate. The losing team still owes dinner, right?"
Ruby gasped. "Wait, if it's a tie, who's paying?!"
Weiss smirked, standing up and smoothing her skirt. "I suppose we can split the bill."
Yang winked at Ruby. "Guess you'll only be half broke, sis."
Ruby groaned but couldn't suppress her grin as they all headed for the door. Despite the competitive bickering, the scavenger hunt had been exactly what they needed—a break from everything else, a chance to have some fun as a team.
The cool night air greeted Team RWBY as they left the Rose Mansion and made their way into Vale, the bustling city glowing under the soft light of streetlamps and shop signs. The scavenger hunt was officially over, and although it ended in a tie, the light banter continued as they walked down the streets together.
"Weiss, you have to admit," Yang said, her hands resting casually behind her head as she walked, "that scarf Ruby and Blake found was pretty cool. You could totally rock it."
Weiss raised an eyebrow, looking skeptically at the scarf now wrapped around Ruby's neck. "It's… fine. But I prefer something a bit more elegant. Practical, but elegant."
Ruby grinned, pulling the scarf tighter around herself. "Well, it's mine now! And besides, I'm totally rocking this look."
Yang laughed. "Oh, totally. You're a trendsetter, Ruby."
Blake, who had been walking quietly beside the group, smirked. "Trendsetting by accident, as usual."
Ruby shot her a playful glare. "Hey! I'm just ahead of the curve. That's all."
Weiss, shaking her head, changed the subject. "Anyway, have we decided on where we're going for dinner? I refuse to eat anywhere... questionable."
Yang grinned. "Don't worry, Weiss. We'll take you somewhere fancy. I know just the place."
Ruby's face lit up. "Ooooh, is it that place with the giant burgers? I love that place!"
Weiss's expression immediately soured. "Burgers? Yang, I thought you said fancy!"
Yang laughed, her lilac eyes gleaming with mischief. "Hey, what's fancier than burgers with a side of fries?"
Weiss let out a dramatic sigh, already regretting letting Yang have any say in the dinner plans. "I'm beginning to question your definition of fancy."
Blake, ever the voice of reason, cut in. "Let's compromise. Something not too casual but not over-the-top either. That way, everyone's happy."
Yang pouted but relented. "Fine, fine. There's a place nearby that has fancy burgers and other stuff. Everyone wins."
Ruby perked up. "Fancy burgers? Count me in!"
With their destination settled, the team made their way toward one of Vale's more upscale but still casual restaurants, The Lantern's Flame. It was a cozy spot nestled on a quiet street corner, its soft golden lights glowing warmly against the darkening sky. The smell of fresh food wafted through the air, making Ruby's stomach growl audibly.
As they stepped inside, the warm atmosphere immediately put them at ease. The restaurant was filled with a soft hum of conversation, and the wooden interior gave it a rustic charm. The team found a booth near the back, away from the main hustle and bustle, where they could relax and enjoy their meal in peace.
Yang slid into the booth first, with Blake taking the seat beside her, while Ruby and Weiss took the opposite side. Ruby immediately grabbed the menu and scanned it with wide, excited eyes.
"Oh, man! Look at all the options!" Ruby practically drooled over the various burger descriptions. "There's one with triple cheese! And another with, like, five kinds of meat!"
Weiss rolled her eyes. "Do you always think with your stomach, Ruby?"
"Hey," Ruby said, looking up from the menu, "I can't help it. This place has amazing food!"
Blake, who had already settled on her order, glanced at Weiss. "You're not actually going to order a salad, are you?"
Weiss gave her a withering look. "I'm perfectly capable of ordering something more substantial than a salad, Blake. Just because you lot have questionable taste doesn't mean I do."
Yang grinned from ear to ear. "Oh, lighten up, Weiss. Try something fun for once. Like the burgers."
Ruby nodded enthusiastically. "Burgers are life!"
Blake raised an eyebrow, her usual calm expression slipping into mild amusement. "Burgers are life?"
Ruby puffed out her chest proudly. "Yes! Life. Fuel. The best food ever invented."
Weiss sighed again but smiled despite herself. "Fine, fine. One burger. But it better be worth it."
As they ordered their food, the conversation naturally shifted to lighter topics—funny moments during their scavenger hunt, old stories from their time at Beacon, and playful jabs at one another's quirks. It felt like a perfect moment, the kind they didn't always get in between missions and the chaos of their lives.
Yang, never one to miss an opportunity to tease, leaned forward and grinned at Blake. "So, Blake, how was it teaming up with Ruby for this whole scavenger hunt? Bet she kept you on your toes."
Blake, always composed, glanced at Ruby with a small smile. "She's... unpredictable. But in a good way."
Ruby beamed. "See? Told you I'm a great teammate!"
Yang chuckled. "Yeah, yeah. Just don't go getting too smug, sis. We almost had you."
Ruby crossed her arms, trying to keep a straight face. "You wish you almost had us. But no way! We had the best finds."
Weiss, ever the realist, interjected. "I'm not sure a tie constitutes 'winning,' Ruby."
Ruby gasped dramatically. "You wound me, Weiss!"
Blake shook her head, clearly entertained by the whole exchange. "At least we didn't lose. That's what matters."
The banter continued as their food arrived, with Ruby's eyes lighting up at the sight of her massive burger. She wasted no time diving in, practically humming with satisfaction after the first bite. Yang followed suit, though not quite as enthusiastically, while Weiss picked at her burger with a bit more hesitation.
After a few bites, though, even Weiss had to admit defeat. "Alright... this burger is actually pretty good."
Yang gave her a wink. "Told you! Fancy doesn't always mean better, Weiss."
Weiss rolled her eyes but smiled. "You're impossible."
As the team enjoyed their meal, the comfortable rhythm of their friendship took over, and the stresses of the outside world seemed to melt away. It was moments like this, where they could relax and just be themselves, that made the effort worthwhile. Ruby and Yang joked, Blake offered her usual dry commentary, and even Weiss joined in, allowing herself to relax for once.
By the time they finished eating, the restaurant had quieted down even more, and the city outside had grown still under the night sky. Ruby stretched her arms above her head, feeling completely satisfied.
"That was so good," Ruby said, patting her stomach. "I think I'm gonna explode."
Yang laughed. "If you're too full to walk, I can carry you back."
Ruby shook her head. "No way! I'm not that full... yet."
Weiss sighed, reaching for the bill. "At least it was worth the price. I suppose we should split this, as promised."
Blake leaned back in her seat, clearly relaxed. "I'd say it was worth it."
As they settled the bill and prepared to leave, Ruby glanced around at her teammates, feeling a sense of warmth and contentment. It wasn't often they got to just enjoy each other's company like this, without the weight of missions or responsibilities looming over them. It was moments like these that made everything worth it.
As they stepped out into the cool night, Ruby felt a spark of excitement for whatever adventure would come next—but for now, this was enough
The cool night breeze swept through the streets of Vale as Team RWBY strolled back toward the Rose Mansion. The sounds of the bustling city had quieted down, leaving behind a peaceful, almost serene atmosphere. Ruby walked at the front of the group, her hands clasped behind her head, humming softly to herself. Yang was right behind her, still chuckling at their earlier banter, while Blake and Weiss walked side by side, enjoying the calm after their scavenger hunt and dinner.
"That was so much fun!" Ruby exclaimed, spinning around to face the group, walking backward with her usual energetic grin. "I think today was one of the best 'vacation days' we've ever had!"
Yang nodded in agreement. "You're not wrong, sis. I mean, any day that ends in burgers and scavenger hunts is a good day."
Weiss, ever the practical one, gave a small sigh but couldn't help the smile tugging at her lips. "It was... tolerable."
Yang laughed. "Come on, Weiss! I saw you smiling during dinner. Admit it—you had fun."
Weiss glanced at her, lifting her chin slightly. "Perhaps I did. But don't get used to it."
Blake chuckled softly, her hands tucked into her pockets. "I think that's Weiss's way of saying she had a great time."
Ruby's eyes gleamed as she bounced on her heels. "See? Even Weiss can have fun on a scavenger hunt. I told you this 'vacation' loop would be amazing."
Blake shot her a look, reminding her with a subtle raise of her eyebrow that Yang and Weiss were still unaware of the "loop" situation. Ruby quickly realized her slip, laughing it off.
"Uh, I mean, this vacation day!" Ruby corrected herself, giving Blake an apologetic grin. "This vacation day was amazing."
Weiss raised an eyebrow but didn't press the issue, clearly chalking up Ruby's odd word choice to her usual quirks. "Yes, well, I suppose it was a... refreshing change of pace."
Yang grinned, leaning over and slinging an arm around Ruby's shoulders. "You know, Ruby, if you keep planning days like this, we might just make you the official team activity coordinator."
Ruby gasped dramatically, clutching her chest. "I accept this great responsibility with honor!"
Blake smirked. "Don't let it go to your head."
As they approached the entrance to the Rose Mansion, the group slowed down, enjoying the quiet of the evening for a few more moments before heading inside. The mansion, nestled in the peaceful outskirts of Vale, had quickly become a refuge from the chaos of their usual lives.
Ruby, still full of energy, practically skipped up the steps and flung the door open. "Welcome back to our humble abode! What shall we do next, ladies?"
Yang stretched her arms above her head as she stepped inside. "Well, I don't know about you, but I'm thinking it's time to just chill for a bit. Maybe grab some snacks and watch something?"
Weiss frowned slightly. "Didn't we just eat?"
Yang grinned, already making her way toward the kitchen. "You can never have too many snacks, Weiss."
Blake chuckled, following Yang. "I'll make tea."
Ruby plopped down on the couch, bouncing a little as she settled in. "Ooh, tea and snacks! That sounds perfect. What should we watch, though?"
Weiss, looking like she was trying to maintain some semblance of order, sat down beside Ruby and crossed her arms. "Nothing too ridiculous, please. I'd prefer something with substance."
Yang returned from the kitchen, already munching on a bag of chips she'd found. "Substance? Come on, Weiss, where's the fun in that? Let's watch something exciting! Like, an action movie."
Blake set the teapot on the table, her usual calm demeanor ever-present. "How about something with a little bit of both? Something fun, but not over-the-top."
Ruby's eyes lit up as she reached for the remote. "I know just the thing!"
She flipped through a few options before landing on a movie that seemed to meet everyone's expectations—a fun, adventure-filled film that was light enough to enjoy without being too serious. The perfect way to unwind after a busy day.
As the movie played, the atmosphere in the room became even more relaxed. Ruby was completely engrossed, her eyes wide as she followed every scene. Yang occasionally made comments, usually poking fun at the more ridiculous moments, while Weiss tried (and mostly failed) to hide her amusement at Yang's quips. Blake, ever observant, simply sipped her tea and watched the dynamic between her teammates unfold.
By the time the movie ended, the room was filled with laughter and the occasional groan at the cheesy parts, but the overall mood was one of contentment. The team had enjoyed the day to its fullest, and now, as they lounged around the living room, it felt like everything was in its right place.
"We should do this more often," Ruby said, her voice quieter now as she leaned back against the couch, her eyelids starting to droop.
Blake, sitting beside her with her legs crossed, nodded. "Agreed. It's nice to take a break."
Yang stretched again, yawning this time. "Yeah, even I can appreciate a chill day every now and then."
Weiss, already half-asleep, mumbled something about needing proper sleep schedules but didn't seem in any rush to leave the comfortable couch.
As the night wore on, the conversation gradually quieted, with the occasional murmur or chuckle breaking the comfortable silence. One by one, the team members found themselves drifting off, the peaceful atmosphere of the mansion lulling them into an easy sleep.
Ruby was the last to succumb to the drowsiness, her thoughts floating somewhere between the present and her awareness of the loops. As she glanced at her sleeping teammates—Blake leaning against the armrest, Yang sprawled out with her arms behind her head, and Weiss curled up with a pillow—she smiled softly.
"Maybe this vacation loop wasn't such a bad idea after all," Ruby whispered to herself, before closing her eyes and letting the peace of the moment wash over her.
