It was early morning at Beacon Academy, the sun barely cresting over the hills as students began their routines. The courtyard was alive with the sound of chatter, footsteps, and the occasional clash of practice weapons. Among the sea of students, Weiss Schnee walked briskly, her expression a mixture of irritation and concern.
Yang Xiao Long, on the other hand, was dragging her feet, her shoulders slumped in a mix of boredom and frustration. Her lilac eyes scanned the courtyard, taking in all the activity, but her thoughts were far away—on a certain pair of teammates who were currently nowhere to be found.
"Do you think they're actually okay out there?" Yang finally spoke, her voice a little more serious than usual.
Weiss huffed, her blue eyes narrowing as she adjusted the collar of her uniform. "I'm sure they're perfectly fine. Ruby has a talent for getting into trouble and somehow coming out unscathed." She paused, glancing at Yang. "But I swear, if they're off on some ridiculous adventure while we're stuck here, I'm going to strangle them both."
Yang chuckled, but there wasn't as much humor behind it as usual. "You know Ruby. She's probably dragging Blake into some weird shenanigans. I just hope they're not getting themselves into anything too dangerous."
"Knowing them? They probably are," Weiss said flatly. She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Honestly, it's like they think being suspended is a vacation."
Nearby, Jaune Arc and Pyrrha Nikos were walking toward the training grounds, their conversation briefly pausing as they overheard Yang and Weiss talking about their missing teammates.
Jaune glanced at Pyrrha, his face a mix of curiosity and worry. "Do you think Ruby and Blake are alright?" he asked, his voice a bit hesitant.
Pyrrha smiled gently, her emerald eyes warm. "I'm sure they're fine. Ruby and Blake are both capable Huntresses. Besides, they have each other to rely on."
"Yeah, I guess..." Jaune rubbed the back of his head, his brow furrowed. "Still, it's weird not having them around. It's like... something's missing, you know?"
As if on cue, Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren joined them, the former bouncing with her usual exuberance. "What's this I hear? Missing teammates?!" Nora exclaimed, her bright smile infectious. "Did they run off to find treasure again?"
Ren, ever the calm presence, shrugged. "Knowing Ruby, she probably did. And knowing Blake, she's just going along with it."
Yang nodded, turning her attention to the two newcomers. "Yeah, and it's making me nervous. They shouldn't be out there alone."
Nora frowned, her playful demeanor faltering for a moment. "Do you think they're okay? I mean, what if they're battling an army of evil spaghetti monsters or something?"
Yang couldn't help but laugh. "Only Ruby would find a way to turn a normal day into a fight against pasta."
"Ew, gross!" Nora laughed, playfully gagging at the thought. "But what if they're really in trouble? I say we should send a search party!"
"Not a bad idea," Jaune said, looking determined. "We should definitely keep an eye out for them. But I don't think sending a search party is the best approach."
"Yeah, it's probably best to let them handle whatever they're doing," Ren agreed, his voice calm and steady. "We can't really control them from here."
Weiss crossed her arms, a serious look on her face. "But we should be prepared. If they don't come back soon, we might need to—"
Before she could finish, Professor Glynda Goodwitch appeared, her presence commanding immediate attention. She tapped her riding crop against her palm, her gaze sweeping over the gathered students.
"Alright, everyone, settle down," Glynda called out. "Today's lesson will focus on advanced combat maneuvers and teamwork—something some of you clearly need more practice in." Her eyes flicked briefly to Yang and Weiss, and both girls could feel the silent reprimand.
Yang whispered to Weiss, "She's still mad about the whole 'window escape' thing, isn't she?"
Weiss groaned softly. "I'd say that's an understatement."
Glynda's gaze lingered on the two for a moment longer before she continued. "We'll be starting with paired exercises. Miss Schnee, Mister Arc—you'll be in one pair. Miss Xiao Long, Miss Nikos—you'll be in another. And Mr. Ren and Miss Valkyrie will pair up as well."
Nora's eyes lit up. "Yay! I get to be with Ren! This is going to be so much fun!"
Ren gave a small smile, clearly used to Nora's enthusiastic antics. "Just try to stay focused, okay?"
As the exercises began, the focus was meant to be on strategy and coordination, but for Yang and Weiss, it was hard to keep their minds from wandering back to their missing teammates. Yang, in particular, found herself glancing toward the windows, her thoughts drifting to wherever Ruby and Blake were.
Glynda called out instructions as the students moved to their positions, but Yang was only half-listening. The thought of Ruby and Blake wandering around out there—probably getting into trouble—was nagging at her.
"Hey, Yang," Jaune said, breaking her thoughts. "You okay? You seem a little... distracted."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Yang replied, forcing a smile. "Just thinking about Ruby."
"Don't worry, she'll be back in no time," Pyrrha reassured her. "And when she comes back, she'll have a crazy story to tell."
"Yeah, one that probably involves them being chased by spaghetti monsters," Yang quipped, earning a laugh from the group.
They continued their training, but the air felt different—tinged with an underlying tension as they all quietly worried about their missing teammates. Each student threw themselves into their sparring, hoping to keep their minds off the unease.
Cut to Ozpin's Office:
In his tower, Headmaster Ozpin was observing the courtyard through the large windows, his gaze distant and contemplative. Beside him, Professor Glynda Goodwitch had just finished giving her report on the morning's training session.
"Still no word from Miss Rose or Miss Belladonna?" Ozpin asked, his voice calm but tinged with curiosity.
Glynda sighed, shaking her head. "None. They seem to have taken the idea of a suspension as an opportunity for a field trip. Though, given their personalities, it's not entirely surprising."
Ozpin took a sip from his ever-present mug, his eyes still on the distant students. "They are... unique, to say the least. But I do worry. There's something different about them this time—an air of experience that feels... out of place."
Glynda frowned. "You think they're hiding something?"
Ozpin nodded slowly. "Perhaps. Or maybe they've simply grown more than we anticipated. Either way, I believe it would be prudent to keep an eye on them—when they decide to return, of course."
Glynda didn't look entirely convinced, but she nodded nonetheless. "Very well. But if they get themselves into trouble, I won't hesitate to bring them back myself."
Ozpin smiled faintly, taking another sip of his coffee. "I wouldn't expect anything less, Glynda."
Back in the Training Grounds:
Yang and Pyrrha were sparring, their movements fluid and precise. Despite her usual carefree attitude, Yang couldn't help but feel a pang of concern as she exchanged blows with Pyrrha. Ruby was her little sister, after all. And while she trusted Ruby's skills, the thought of her being out there without them made her uneasy.
Pyrrha seemed to notice Yang's distracted state and lowered her weapon slightly. "Yang, are you alright?"
Yang blinked, snapping back to reality. "Huh? Oh, yeah. Just... thinking about Ruby and Blake."
Pyrrha offered a kind smile. "They'll be fine. Ruby is strong, and Blake is resourceful. I'm sure they're handling things just fine."
Yang nodded, though her expression remained troubled. "Yeah, I know. It's just... I don't know. Something feels different this time."
Pyrrha's eyes softened. "Maybe it's because we're all growing. Things are changing, and sometimes it's hard to keep up."
Yang smiled at that, though it was a bit sad. "Yeah. You're probably right. Still, I can't help but worry."
Pyrrha nodded in understanding, and the two resumed their sparring, though the mood remained contemplative.
As the training session continued, the atmosphere was tense but charged with a sense of camaraderie. Jaune and Pyrrha practiced their paired combat skills, with Jaune attempting to maintain his composure under Pyrrha's watchful eye.
"Remember, Jaune, don't overextend," Pyrrha instructed, deftly sidestepping a clumsy swing from Jaune's sword. "Stay focused. You have to anticipate your opponent's moves."
"Right, right. Anticipate," Jaune muttered, his brow furrowing as he tried to keep his balance. He swung again, and this time he managed to land a blow—albeit a very weak one. "Did you see that? I actually hit you!"
Pyrrha chuckled, a bright smile lighting up her face. "Good job! Now let's see if you can do it again."
As they sparred, Yang couldn't help but watch from the sidelines, her earlier worries flaring back to the surface. She felt a twinge of guilt—after all, she was supposed to be keeping an eye on her teammates, but here she was, stuck in training while Ruby and Blake were off who-knows-where.
Weiss, ever the perfectionist, was giving her own set of instructions to her partner, Ren. "Alright, Ren, let's work on our synchronization. We need to be in perfect harmony during our combat moves."
Nora was bouncing on her heels nearby, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Can we do a team combo? I've got a new move I've been working on! It involves hammers and... uh, more hammers!"
Yang turned to her, unable to suppress a grin. "How does that work? You just throw more hammers at people?"
"Exactly!" Nora beamed, her enthusiasm infectious. "I call it the 'Hammer Time Blitz!' It's foolproof!"
"Or it'll just lead to more chaos," Ren said, shaking his head with an amused smile. "But that does sound fun."
Weiss shot them both an exasperated look. "We're not here to fool around. We need to take this seriously—especially if Ruby and Blake are off gallivanting in the woods without any of us."
"Yeah, but it's Ruby," Yang replied, leaning against the wall and crossing her arms. "You know she'll turn whatever she's doing into a wild adventure. I just wish I knew what they were up to."
At that moment, Glynda approached the group, her expression as stern as ever. "I hope you all understand the importance of staying focused during training. Miss Rose and Miss Belladonna may be absent, but that does not excuse slacking off."
"Of course, Professor," Jaune said, his voice a little shaky under Glynda's scrutinizing gaze.
"Good," Glynda replied, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Now, let's refocus on teamwork. I want to see synergy, precision, and control. You all need to be prepared for anything."
"Anything like Ruby's flying shenanigans?" Yang joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Glynda raised an eyebrow. "Flying shenanigans?"
"Long story," Weiss interjected, crossing her arms. "Let's just say Ruby has a way of getting into trouble. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up in the middle of some ridiculous escapade right now."
Glynda sighed, though there was a hint of a smile on her lips. "I trust they will come back when they're ready. Until then, you all need to focus on your training."
"Yeah, but what if they don't come back?" Yang pressed, her expression turning serious again. "What if they get into real trouble?"
"We can't worry about that now," Pyrrha said softly, stepping over to Yang. "They're strong, and they can handle themselves. Just like we can handle this training."
Yang nodded but still looked unconvinced. "I guess. I just can't shake the feeling that something's off."
Nora hopped up, placing a comforting hand on Yang's shoulder. "Hey, we've got each other's backs, right? If anything goes wrong, we'll find a way to help them!"
Ren nodded in agreement. "Exactly. We're a team. We can handle anything that comes our way."
Just then, a loud crash echoed from the training grounds, pulling everyone's attention. They all turned to see Jaune stumbling backward as Pyrrha attempted to deliver a decisive blow—only to have Jaune accidentally trip and land awkwardly, sending his sword flying across the area.
"Jaune!" Pyrrha exclaimed, rushing over to check on him. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, totally fine!" Jaune groaned, sitting up and rubbing the back of his head. "Just... getting used to the whole 'coordination' thing."
Yang couldn't help but laugh at the sight. "This is exactly why we should've kept Ruby around—she'd be the one making a fool of herself instead!"
Glynda cleared her throat, eyeing the scattered weapons. "Focus, everyone. Back to training."
As they resumed their exercises, Yang's thoughts still lingered on Ruby and Blake. She glanced over at Weiss, who seemed equally distracted. "We should send them a message or something," Yang suggested.
Weiss shook her head. "They're not exactly in a position to receive messages if they're off gallivanting in the wild."
"Maybe they'll find a way to reach us when they're ready," Ren said thoughtfully. "It's Ruby and Blake. They always manage to find their way back."
The group continued their training, but Yang felt a sense of determination rising within her. Whatever Ruby and Blake were up to, she knew they would find a way to come back—preferably before she had to endure another one of Jaune's clumsy training sessions.
Cut to Ozpin's Office:
Back in Ozpin's office, the Headmaster continued observing the courtyard, his expression thoughtful. "We need to be prepared for the possibility of something unexpected occurring while Ruby and Blake are away."
Glynda nodded, her expression serious. "If they encounter any real danger, we must be ready to respond. The longer they remain out of our sight, the more concerned I become."
Ozpin set his mug down, turning his attention to the window. "Then we should keep a close watch on the students. Their safety is our priority."
The training session progressed, but the atmosphere remained charged with a mix of anxiety and determination. Yang and Pyrrha continued their sparring, their movements more precise as they pushed each other to improve. Meanwhile, Jaune practiced with Ren, who was patiently guiding him through a series of coordinated strikes.
"Remember, Jaune, it's all about timing," Ren said calmly, demonstrating a fluid series of movements with his weapon. "You need to anticipate your partner's actions."
"Yeah, I know. Anticipate," Jaune repeated, trying to mirror Ren's grace but failing miserably as he stumbled again.
Nora, standing nearby, couldn't contain her laughter. "You're like a baby deer trying to walk for the first time!"
Jaune groaned, throwing his hands up in defeat. "Thanks for the vote of confidence, Nora."
"Anytime!" she chirped, her cheerfulness unfazed by his frustration. "Just keep trying! You'll get it eventually!"
As the training continued, Weiss was growing increasingly restless. She glanced over at Yang, who was still staring out the window, deep in thought. "You know, if you're that worried about Ruby, maybe we should head out and look for them," she suggested.
Yang turned to her, surprised. "You think so? I mean, we can't just leave without permission, can we?"
"Glynda's been preoccupied with the training session," Weiss pointed out. "And besides, we have to make sure they're safe. If they really are off fighting spaghetti monsters, we can't just sit here."
Yang considered it for a moment, her brow furrowing. "But what if we get in trouble for leaving? They might find their way back before we get caught."
"Or they might not," Weiss countered, her voice firm. "We can't just ignore this."
Nora overheard their conversation and bounced over, her energy infectious. "I'm in! Let's go find them! Think of all the fun we could have—maybe we'll even discover a hidden treasure map or something!"
"Or we'll find them sitting in a field, eating pancakes," Ren remarked dryly, shaking his head with a slight smile.
"Pancakes?" Jaune perked up, momentarily distracted from his training. "What about pancakes?"
"Nothing," Yang said quickly, trying to keep the mood light. "Just the usual Ruby antics."
As they debated, Glynda called for their attention again, her voice cutting through the chatter. "If you're all quite finished discussing your plans, I would like to see more focus on the training exercises."
"Right, back to it!" Yang said, forcing herself to focus as she joined Pyrrha for another round. Despite the seriousness of the training, her mind kept drifting back to Ruby and Blake.
After a few more minutes, Glynda clapped her hands to regain everyone's attention. "Let's take a quick break. I want you all to discuss your strategies among yourselves."
As the students gathered in small groups, Yang seized the opportunity. "Weiss, let's go find Ruby and Blake," she whispered urgently.
Weiss looked around, spotting the other teams chatting. "We could. But we need to be discreet."
"Of course! Stealth mode activated!" Yang declared with a mischievous grin, crouching low as if to sneak away.
"Yeah, because that's not going to attract attention," Weiss muttered, rolling her eyes but unable to hide a smile.
Meanwhile, Jaune and Pyrrha were deep in conversation. "I don't want to be a distraction," Jaune said earnestly. "You've already got your training to worry about."
"Jaune, you're not a distraction. You just need to be more aware," Pyrrha replied, her voice soothing. "We're a team, remember? We support each other."
Nora bounded over, her eyes bright. "Are we playing the support game? Because I think Jaune is doing great! He just needs more practice!"
"More practice, huh?" Jaune replied, looking slightly embarrassed. "Thanks, I guess?"
"Don't worry, I'm here for you!" Nora declared, giving him a reassuring thumbs-up. "We can all work on this together!"
"Alright, but no more falling over, okay?" Jaune said, determination lighting up his face.
As they continued to train, Yang and Weiss quietly made their way toward the exit of the training grounds. They slipped out the door, sharing a quick look to ensure they hadn't been noticed.
Once outside, Yang turned to Weiss, her expression serious. "So, where do we start?"
Weiss pondered for a moment. "Let's check the areas they mentioned last time. Ruby said something about exploring the cliffs. If they're doing something reckless, that's probably where they'd go."
"Sounds good to me!" Yang agreed, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. "Let's go!"
Back in Ozpin's Office:
In his office, Ozpin continued to observe the courtyard, his brow furrowing slightly. "Keep an eye on them, Glynda," he said, nodding toward the training grounds. "We can't afford to overlook any unusual behavior, especially from Miss Rose and Miss Belladonna."
Glynda nodded, her gaze sharp. "I'll make sure to monitor their training. If they return, we'll need to be ready for whatever they bring back with them."
"Agreed. We may not know what they're up to, but it's clear that their journey is far from over."
As they both turned their attention back to the students, a sense of anticipation filled the air. Whatever adventures Ruby and Blake were getting into, Yang and Weiss were determined to uncover the truth behind their mysterious absence.
