"Alright Simon. Time for bed."

Flinching during mid pause of his game, there's nothing more Simon Sharp hated than those three dreaded words.

It wasn't because it interrupts his gaming; as he usually plays single player games at this time of night.

It wasn't because he hated going to bed; as he usually has great dreams, when he finally does gets to sleep.

It wasn't even because of brushing his teeth or any other hygiene; as he does like to be clean.

No. If it's one thing he hated, it's the very thing that most people are afraid of. The dark.

It's true. While he would never admit it to anyone, especially to his friends as he felt like that he was up to that age where kids would get over this fear. Simon just can't help, but be absolutely terrified of the dark, mostly because of who knows on what could be hiding in it. Silently watching you, waiting for you to lower down your guard enough to pounce out.

Why he gets so terrified. That he hides underneath the covers to shield himself from whatever could be hiding in it.

He absolutely hates this fear of his because he knows that it's silly as his room is just the same as it was in the light. He even tries to face it at least multiple times, but with no successful results.

He was just destine to be afraid of the dark. No matter what he does.

Sighing to himself; as he just has to get this over with again. Simon shuts off his gaming console and made his way on over to the bathroom to brush his teeth, while passing by his sister's room in the process, where inside; the faint melody of a guitar is being played.

It sounded nice like always and there's no doubt that his sister is playing a song for her girlfriend. He already knows that Luna is going to love it; as his sister makes very good music. Now if only her music can calm his nerves of the dark. He is absolutely sure that her calm music would help him get to sleep faster.

But with his room quite far from hers, he couldn't listen to her music, and he couldn't say anything due to his fear on how embarrassing it would be.

He knows that Sam wouldn't really mind on playing sleep music for him, but he felt that only little kids ask their big sisters to be with them in the dark and he was no little kid.

Sighing to himself. He enters the awaiting bathroom.

"Well. What did you think?" Playing the last few notes of her song, Sam is really anticipating on what Luna has thought of it.

"It's totally rocking Sam!" Raising her hands up in goat formation, she bobs them up and down to show her on how rocking it was.

"Aw! Thanks Lune's. The band is going to love it." Playing out a few cords, she then stops when the sound of the toilet flushing vibrated through the walls of her room. "Sounds like Simon is getting ready for bed."

"Everything alright?" Luna only asks this as she quickly took notice of the slight frown on Sam's face.

"Oh it's nothing. I'm just thinking about my brother's fear of the dark." Simon may have tried to hide it from her, but Sam knew it all to well. Call it a big sister instinct.

"I know that feeling." Being the third oldest of her family. Luna has witnessed several of her younger sibs being afraid of the dark. Heck, she was once afraid of the dark as she has spent quite a few nights with Lori or slept with her Mick Swagger night light on.

"How many of your siblings were afraid of the dark?"

"About five of them. Except for Lucy. She loved being in the dark." She wouldn't sleep with a night light, she wanted it completely pitch black. So dark; that you couldn't see anything in front of you.

"But I wouldn't worry about it Sam. Your bro will eventually get over this fear."

"I do hope so." She didn't like seeing him get all tensed up, whenever his bedtime is announced.

Having done all of his bathroom business. Simon stood in his bedroom with a big gulp for it's time to initiate Protocol Seven.

Resting his finger on the light switch, he gets himself ready by letting in a huge amount of air and hunched himself down like a football player. Finally turning off the lights, he races as fast as he can to the safety of his bed.

Diving underneath the covers. He crawls himself to the top of the bed, where he then slowly peeks his head out for a visual scan of the area.

Through the darkness, he sees shapes and dark shadows throughout his room. Breathing in slowly to calm down his fears, he reminds himself that the dark shapes and shadows were just his stuff that only looks different. Thanks to his imagination.

Looking around more. He sees a skinny shadow moving through the moonlight, swaying back and forth as a low tapping rang through the room. But that's alright; it's just the branch of a tree swaying in the wind.

Alright; so far, so good. Now if he can make a few more observations, it's going to be alright and who knows. Maybe he'll finally get over this fear tonight. Hopefully.

Doing another long scan of his room. He sees nothing out of the ordinary to cause him much alarm, allowing him to calm his mind, raise the covers up to his chin as he slowly turned to lay on his side for a much more comfy position.

With him all comfortable. He goes to sleep.

"CREAK!"

Awaken from his slumber by the creepy sound. Simon is quick to turn towards it as he needed to see on what had made it?

Scanning around the room once more. It had become much more harder to see with the moonlight now gone. Leaving him unable to see anything that may have fallen onto the floor. It's just a good thing that he has his phone on the bedside table.

Switching to flashlight mode, he does a wide sweep of the floor first, but doesn't find anything amiss. Checking his closet next, it's still closed up right along with his bedroom door.

"Keep it together Simon. It was probably just mom, dad, or Sam using the bathroom." The bathroom door was always creaky, so he's happily sticking to that explanation, even if it sounded like the creaking had came from inside his room.

Turning off the flashlight. He just places his phone back down on the table, when that same creaking sound went off again, fallowed by what sounded like fast crawling.

With much more quickness this time. Simon turns back on the light and scans around his room once again with quick strokes, but stopped on the slightly open closet door. Wait. Wasn't that closed?

He then catches movement in the corner of his eyes. Quickly flashing the light to the end of his bed; he sees nothing, but intensely waits with his body visibility shaking.

He knows that he had seen something, he doesn't know what? But it was definitely something.

The crawling then suddenly starts up again, where this time; it sounded like that it went on up to the other side of the room.

He still doesn't see anything though, making him even more afraid for what was it? All he could think of is a large bug, like the spiders from Minecraft. He swears that if he hears hissing, he is so out of here and is sleeping on the couch.

Regardless; he waits for the crawling sound to play out again as this time. He is going to find out on what exactly it is.

But after awhile; nothing happens. It's as quiet as a library in here, which makes this even more scary for where is it?

The answer had came with it coming from above him. Glancing up slowly, Simon is met with a half man, half cockroach creature on the ceiling.

Lunging at him with its human arms stretched out, black eyes looking at him with straight forward antennas, and clacking mandibles. It let's out a loud screech that is only drowned out by Simon's louder screams.

Filling up the canister. Bob; a ant like monster, watched in satisfaction as his coworker Tim, came out of the assigned room with a smile.

"Phew! That was tricky. Kid's been sweeping the room with his flashlight." Stretching out his multiple legs, he is ready for the next round. "Bring in another door Bob."

"On it. By the way. Your doing great today Tim. You might beat Sullivan as the top scarer." Pushing in some buttons on the control panel. The door leaves and is swiftly replaced by another door.

"One can only dream." Getting himself ready. Tim enters the child's room as soon as the red light turned on.

A monster's work is never done.
