A/N: Hi! So I know it's November and I made a fic with Santa in the title, don't hate me! I just got this idea and had to start it early haha. This fic is the result of a lot of things, a love letter to Superman and Lois and the Kent family feels the show has delivered, a fun little preseries headcanon that spiraled into a final season AU idea, a lot of character and theories discussion with a friend on this site with every new episode, and just needing fun family vibes, my attempt at kinda adding that to this sendoff season and write what you wanna read to the max. Also a note, I did play with timeline so events happen closer to the holiday season. This fic is also a present to that friend, you get an xmas prezzie in November! This is also my first crack at really really writing Jonathan outside of RPs, so I hope I don't mess it up, and I hope you enjoy this first chapter!
Chapter One
Jonathan had never really had much to say about Christmas. He wasn't obsessed. He didn't hate it. He didn't start playing carols in October or anything, but he didn't hold it against those that did. It was nice. Even when they lived in Metropolis before he knew about his dad being the world's superhero, even before Jordan's powers…and X-K Before Lex Luthor. Before Smallville. There were no horror stories, no embarrassing questions from drunk relatives. His family was pretty normal when the holidays came around even with his brother's struggles, and his parents always did everything to make it fun for him and Jordan. His dad was always around then, even when he hadn't been the rest of the year. And that's what Jon always remembered the best.
So the prospect of him not being around had been paralyzing. Thanksgiving had come and gone without dad. They had all watched that thing kill Superman, Jordan had seen their father's heart crushed in front of him under a boot, Jon had gotten powers, his grandfather had been killed, but then… dad had come back. Their grandfather had given them all the best gift he could. Clark Kent was back.
But there was still a strong sense of trouble in the air with Luthor lurking. And it permeated everywhere. Especially with his father seemingly not fully himself. When he had been training with dad at the fortress, and he saw his dad fall, he knew he had to do something.
And he had been. As he flew towards Smallville after another save, this one in the Greek Islands, he couldn't escape it, something his grandmother had said years ago when she had visited Metropolis and gone with the boys to this corny pop up fest. If you wanna see a real Santa's village, you should spend winter break in Smallville. He hadn't understood it then. Meaning they decorated? Everyone did. But as he looked down, he did.
They had gotten snow, a small dusting, but snow nonetheless, and every storefront had lights. And the streets were still. From this high, it looked like a postcard, or the inside of a snow globe. And it almost made Jon not want to land…almost. It was 5 in the morning. He had to. It had only taken him an hour, but his parents would most definitely still have things to say. He flew to the farm watching the neighborhood opening up their shops as he passed and landed at the barn in record time.
He went back to the house and saw his brother as he went to the fridge. "Hey, what's up?" He opened it and looked for something to drink, grabbing a soda and the milk.
"Where did you go this time?" Jordan asked, moving his headphones down to his neck, not sounding the least bit interested.
"Greek Islands. But there was a bus crash in New York before that, black ice."
"Ah, nice I guess, all nighter." Jordan scrolled his phone briefly watching the news clips, all of his brother doing various things. He then put it down "Are you sure this is a good idea man?"
"What are you talking about?" Jonathan went to the cabinet and searched for the cereal.
"The…Superboy stuff." Jordan gestured in his twin's direction. "Did you even sleep at all?"
"Well, maybe if I had some help," Jon said
pouring out a bowl . "Have you even done anything since…?" He trailed off at seeing his brother's face.
"I can't!" Jordan snapped.
"That's stupid," Jonathan replied. "Of course you can. You know Dad actually can't right?"
Jordan shook his head but before he could say anything more his head snapped up.
"You're back," Their mom entered looking in Jonathan's direction.
Jonathan nodded as he sat down and began shoveling spoonfuls of cereal.
"That's what, six this week?" Lois asked.
"Seven actually." Jonathan replied.
"Right," Lois sat down in between the boys. "You know you can slow down? It's Tuesday."
Jonathan shrugged.
"I was thinking, what if we had dad take us to get a tree?" Lois asked. "After school? It might be fun."
"We already have a tree," Jordan pointed out.
"Yeah, but what about a real tree? We can give it a try." Lois said.
Jordan sighed and nodded looking at Jonathan.
"Alright," Jonathan agreed.
