Harry hissed and tugged at the collar of his shirt that the man had told him to wear. Next to him was his nemesis Granger who was also uneasy in her uniform. Daycare M that M had said? More like a boarding school. Both of them were told to wear the uniforms that Harry swore were worn by nineteenth century kids have been wearing. Around them were several other children who were standing at attention as the one who called Himself H walked up and down the rows. Harry was in the second row of children, forth column of six. Granger was third column and was busy cursing under her breath about him.
H's footfalls made a steady beat on the floor. But unlike a clean crisp footfalls Harry had heard of the TV, the left and right steps were off. Click clack. Click clank. Click clack. Click clank.
'Why is his shoes making two different sounds?' Harry wondered as the man's shadow passed over him. The girl to his other side sneezed and the man's eyes flashed to the side of his face then back forwards in a span of a second. Harry shivered at his fast look. It was cold, void of emotion and tightly controlled. 'What sort of daycare is this?'
H's voiced boomed. "Welcome to Daycare new recruits. Or what it is known around her as the Developing Agent Youth Camp And Retried Elites. E. Each of you have been selected to act as agents through tests or discovery of your talents that have set you apart from the rest of the youth. DO NOT THINK YOU ARE SPEICAL! AS OF THIS MOMENT YOU ARE NOT CHILDREN YOU ARE MAGGOTS! DUNG THAT I FOUND UNDER MY BOOT THIS MORNING!"
H turned and looked at the assembled children. "You twenty four will discover hidden talents, skills and more under the watch of myself and the rest of the staff here. Today all of you will learn the bare basics. And welcome to Daycare. Fall out and get to know one another."
As the man marched out murmurs of conversations broke out as the children fell out of formation. Harry was quick to move away from Granger and make his way to a gathering of several boys his age and older. A boy with wild brown hair noticed his approach and several of the boys flanked Harry at a glance from him.
"What you want?" The leader, Harry assumed, as the older boy crossed his arms as he leaned back on the wall. Harry noted it was similar to how his adopted father leaned, relaxed but ready for anything to happen.
"Just wanted to-"
"No." The boy snapped his fingers. "Your about to say something about wanted to be friends, get to know me and the rest of the squad so let me beat you to it. The name is John. Wallace John. Number one on the exam and personally hand picked by my adopted aunt."
He then leveled a glare at Harry as he stood straight up. Clasping his hands behind his back John walked around Harry like he was a subject of study. Harry felt the back of his hair stand straight as the other boy pasted behind him before coming to his side. Placing his arm across Harry's shoulder, John gave him a smirk.
"I think that you may be of some... small use to me. Play your cards right and who knows. Right Samuel?"
Samuel, or who Harry thought as Samuel, nodded his head. "Skills and reliability are more important than money here newbie. We're not here to make friends but to learn."
"Well said." Harry flinched as John patted his cheek. "So why don't you go play with the rest of the lower class recruits until we can find the way for you to... earn your place here."
His piece said, John went back to his spot by the wall as the other boys blocked Harry from walking towards him. Seeing that this conversation was over Harry walked away towards a boy and girl who were waving him over. To his annoyance, Granger as there too. Was she to plague his existence his entire life? Harry hoped not, she seemed like a trouble maker. His father would probly tell him to make peace with her and try to make friends but he could not see that happening. She was such a girl.
'Where is dad anyway?'
James Bond ducked and flipped over the table as he and agent Granger loosened their weapons from their holsters. After spending what felt like ages under the wrath of M, in reality of only ten minutes, she had sent them to check out a system red flag by a police station. their mission? Follow and talk to the woman who had seen a broad daylight abduction of two adults. Ironically enough they were the family members of his adopted sun and who lived across the way of the safe house. M was concerned they were targeted do to their proximity to the safe house by someone who wanted to get back at the agency.
Gun fire rattled over his head before Bond returned fire along with the rest of London's finest cops and Granger. The woman was screaming and was clearly bleeding from the head. She was screaming about she could not afford another something again and ho this was all the fault of some headmaster Dormouse. Or a dumb door. Bond hoped that her confusing speech was related to that head injury.
"Like that time at the LA docks huh?" Granger said as he fired a round before having to duck to avid the return fire.
Bond grabbed some more ammo from a fallen cop. He would not need it anymore. "Last year?"
The conversation ended as the gunmen dispersed into vehicles and scattered, firing warning shots to slow down anyone following them. Bond and Granger scrabbled to their feet after them even as sirens filled the air as reinforcements for the police as well as ambulances. Taking keys from a fallen cop Granger tossed the keys to Bond.
"You drive."
...
Pulling against the yielded no results but Ruby still tried to at least get some satisfaction of the attempt of escape. The damned muggles had her wand. HER NEW WAND! Captured by muggles was a new low for the witch, then again she was sure she was reaching new lows by the hour of the day. She idly wondered if she should have stayed at Hogwarts or the small hamlet. Around her she could hear the sounds of machinery but could no see anything thanks to the blindfold, not that it mattered with her pounding headache.
"Sit her up."
Rough hands pulled the witch to her feet and placed her on a chair, or what she assumed was a chair. The blindfold was removed soon after as well as the bindings around her wrists. Blinking her eyes to adjust to the change of light she noticed that unlike a dirty hole she was in a well lit room with several men and women standing in guard positions around her and... the man in front of her.
The lightening was hitting him just right that she could tell he was indeed a man, but what his face looked like she had no idea. A cat meowed and jumped up onto his lap and he began to pet it even as his other hand taped his fingers on the arm of his chair. Ruby wondered if the man cared about getting cat fur on his suit given it looked expensive for a muggle, but she kept her option to herself. The blood trailing out of the room on the marble floor being cleaned by two maids were warning enough that this man was dangerous.
"Ruby Grey." A slow culled voice cut through the air like a knife. Ruby stiffened. It was like talking to a pure-blood, that controlling tone that hid the real intent behind it. "I would like to say that I am sorry for the way you were treated. No lady such as yourself should be treated in the way you were."
"Thank you? But why am I here?"
The man hummed as he leaned to one side of the chair to relax more. "Are you aware of a man b the name of James Bond?"
Ruby blinked. "Who?"
"I see." The man snapped his fingers and pointed. A man behind Ruby handed her a file. Upon opening it Ruby noted the man in the photograph. "This man."
"I have never seen him before." She answered honestly as she flipped through the pages. "But I see he gets around and I-"
Her voice died as she looked at a more recent photo of the man. Or at least, the boy who's forehead was exposed by what she assumed was wind when the photo was taken. The lightening bolt. Only one child she new of had that scar. Harry bloodily Potter.
The man took note her her reaction. "Ah, so you do know something."
"He lives." Ruby whispered as she gingerly touched the photo. To think Albus had no idea that the boy was in her sights. It was as if the universe was rewarding her for all her troubles. "Where and when was this taken?"
"In do time miss Grey." The man cracked a smile on his face. "But it seems that you are interested in the ward of my enemy. Perhaps we can help one another."
Ruby's eyes glittered. "Do tell."
