The crowd outside the tower gasped in disbelief. "Isn't she just a baby?" one person exclaimed. "OMG, it's just a child!" Another person cried out, their voice filled with awe and astonishment.
Everyone outside the tower started taking pictures and sharing the good news on social media. The birth of the world's 12th S-Ranker. It had been 10 years since the last S-Ranker.
Inside the evaluation room, the announcement was met with a cacophony of noise. The running sound of feet, the clatter of metal, and the shouts of people filled the air. The door swung open, and the gangster guy, with his Muay Thai bodyguards, ran out first, their faces a mixture of fear and anger.
A wave of security staff rushed in, their faces grim. They made way for the president and the two Eun men, Seokjin and Seokwon, who entered the room.
Nicole, feeling the weight of her curiosity, the overwhelming manner in which her actions had unfolded, felt sweat start to appear on her brow. Seokjin saw her, his eyes widening with concern. He walked faster, held her close, and bent down on his knees. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.
Nicole, feeling that she had done something wrong, her heart sinking with guilt, shook her head and whispered, "I'm okay..."
Seokjin, his expression softening, hugged her tightly.
Seokwon and Dohyun, witnessing the exchange, exchanged glances, a mixture of amusement and understanding in their eyes. "It seems he's already made up his mind," Seokwon said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "I guess leaving the child to an orphanage was never an option for him."
"Won't it be an issue since she can't speak Korean?" Dohyun asked, his voice laced with concern.
They watched as Seokjin, still holding Nicole close, continued to scold her with a gentle voice, his tone filled with a fatherly concern. Nicole, her eyes fixed on Seokjin's face, her brow furrowed with seriousness, seemed to be listening intently. The sweat on her brow, the warmth in her eyes, and the seriousness of her expression warmed the hearts of everyone who witnessed the exchange.
Seokwon replied to Dohyun, "I think we can leave that to Seokjin." He watched the scene before him, his gaze lingering on Seokjin's gentle touch, the way he held Nicole close. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride for his son, seeing how much he had grown, how much he had become someone important to that little girl.
Seokjin, carrying Nicole in his arms, walked towards them. "I apologize for my sudden behavior, going ahead," he said, his voice laced with a hint of embarrassment.
The president, Dohyun, waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it, Seokjin. It's understandable." He paused for a moment, his gaze fixed on Nicole. "Are you planning to adopt her?"
Nicole, unable to understand their conversation, yawned, covering her mouth with her hand. She rested her head on Seokjin's shoulder, her eyes fluttering closed.
Dohyun, noticing her lack of understanding, asked, "What is the young lady's name?"
Seokjin paused, a flicker of realization crossing his face. "I... I never asked her," he confessed, a touch of shame in his voice.
Seokwon chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed through the room. Dohyun, unable to contain his amusement, joined in the laughter.
Seokjin turned to Nicole, his expression serious. "What is your name?" he asked gently.
Nicole thought for a moment, her brow furrowed in concentration. "Should I tell them my real name, or... hmm... would you give me a new name?" she asked, her voice a soft whisper. She smiled, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Seokwon, listening intently, couldn't help but smile. He had never seen his son so vulnerable, so endearing.
Dohyun, not fluent in English, turned to his assistant, who had just entered the room. "Did you find anything?" he asked.
The assistant nodded. "Yes, President. I found a match on the missing persons list." She handed Dohyun a file, which he then passed to Seokwon.
Seokjin, trying to think of a name for Nicole, was struggling. He was so focused on finding the perfect name that he didn't notice Nicole giggling at his seriousness.
Seokjin confessed, "I can't think of one right now." He felt a wave of frustration wash over him. He wanted to give her a name that reflected her strength, her spirit, her beauty. But nothing came to mind.
Seokwon, sensing his son's struggle, tapped his shoulder with the document he had just read. Seokjin instinctively took it and began to read.
Seokwon and the president decided to leave Seokjin and the little girl alone, continuing their agenda in the conference room.
Seokjin read Nicole's profile, his expression growing somber. "Two years, huh?" he thought, his voice a mere whisper. "She was originally from Malaysia... no wonder she can't understand Korean."
Nicole, tilting her head, wondered about Seokjin's sad expression. She felt a pang of concern for him.
Seokjin returned the documents to the assistant, who was waiting by the entrance. He then picked up Nicole and walked out of the room.
Nicole, feeling concerned, stared at Seokjin, trying to catch his glance. He took a deep breath, caressed her cheek, and kissed her first on one cheek, then on her forehead. Nicole couldn't help but blush.
"From now on," Seokjin said, his voice soft and gentle, "your name is Eun Seokrin. Rin for short."
Nicole was shocked. A new identity. A new life. She realized that her life as Rin had begun.
