"That feels abrupt, even for me. Wouldn't why wonder why I did that?"
For the first time that day, Macbeth smiled. Cobra looked away to keep himself from shuddering. That smile could inspire nightmares even in him.
"They were a little perplexed by that. But that question solved itself once we entered the guild."
"What? How?"
"Well…when Jellal inquired on Lucy's whereabouts when the day went on, he was told she was on a job and would be out the rest of the week."
"What does that have to do with…" Cobra paused, then turned back to glower at Macbeth as the implications set in. "No."
Macbeth shrugged. "I didn't suggest anything, just so we're clear. The others simply heard that and then stopped thinking about it." He flashed another haughty smile. "It's always nice when most of the work is already done for you."
"Don't you dare spread this around to anyone else," Cobra growled. He could only faintly hope Lucy had no idea about the whole thing. Macbeth didn't say another word, but his smile did drop in intensity to that of only mere contentment as they continued ahead.
That's absurd, I don't only talk to her. I talk to Kinana all the time. Sure, she's busy with work so I don't want to bother her, but why is Lucy any different? Why is she the deciding factor? I need to talk to more people in that stupid guild so this doesn't happen again. Maybe that drunk, or that spirit freak, or… Cobra became so lost in thought that he scarcely heard Macbeth's tiny chuckles.
