Shura's grin was unsettling for Rin. Her face screamed silently that whatever training she was going to put him through would be brutal. Rin lowered his hand to his blade. Well, the one the Vatican knew about. He waited to pull it though. It would be a risk to wait, should she just decide to strike as part of training. But pulling it too soon could also make her strike. Her eyes narrowed and she chuckled.
"Come on kid. A bit of advice from me," she rushed forward, her blade drawn and poised to strike. Rin pulled his blade out quickly and narrowly sidestepped her initial strike and blocked the second with his blade. His eyes were locked with hers while the shifting of feathers were heard in the background. He didn't blink at the familiar noise. Shura's grin grew more feral.
"Don't hesitate."
Rin used his rather inhuman strength to push Shura back and off his blade. He jumped back and adjusted his grip to better hold his sword as she attempted another strike, moving much like a serpant. Rin sidestepped and used his sword to bloke her sliding blade. Metal sreeching against one another as the blades met. Shura appeared greatly amused with the cat and mouse style they had started. Rin slid her blade off his, throwing her balance a touch and took a risk, headbutting her square in her forehead.
Her head jostled back for not even half a second when she thrust her blade towards his chest. Rin ducked, favoring his shorter height when going low. He went for her knees making her leap back.
"Not bad. Where'd yah learn tah fight?"
"Angel-"
"Ah!" Shura inturrupted rudely, her sword just cutting his cheek, "Angel may be a decent swordsman but he'd never stoop tah teachin' yah tah fight dirty."
"It's not dirty. It's effective."
Shura chuckled at the comment.
"Fer now."
Rin blinked and found himself on his back, her blade to his throat.
"If yer gonna fight dirty, then fight dirty."
Rin groaned and waited for her to remove her blade. Instead the cold blade dug a touch bit more into his neck. Rin's eyes narrowed but he remained still. Shura was a terrifying fighter, and the slightest move could be more damaging than the sluggish bleeding cut on his cheek. Even with her eyes leaving him to stare at who knew what, he didn't dare move. Humans weren't as predictable in their movements as demons and Shura had to be the biggest wild card he'd ever met.
"Almost like yew had divine intervention or somethin'."
"Well, if Angel's sword is any indication," Rin joked. People made jokes about the so called blessed status he had. But the sword was the difinitive answer.
"His sword said the same thing bout me once," she admitted, "Said I wouldn't have survived where I was without it. But I just thank," she leaned in close to his ear, "Raphael."
Rin felt a shift in the air with the whispered word spoken.
"Please tell me that was a lucky guess and that she isn't a Clairvoyant," Metatron spoke with a steady but cold tone. Accusatory even.
"Now is not the time Metatron," the equally icy voice of Raphael stated. Shura sat upright, her grin slightly less wicked than it was before.
"Come on Rin, get up. Lesson's not over yet."
Rin rolled his eyes and sat up.
"I'd be dissapointed if it was. I've barely learned anything to help me fight better."
"Don't worry. You will."
"So... Raphael?" Rin asked. In his time stuck at the vatican, he never heard of another exorcist speak of angels. Bible verses yes but not angels.
"Ah may have been raised among demons," she chuckled, "So angels, kinda a gimme."
"Okay...?"
"And yew?"
"What about me?"
"Yew believe in angels?"
"Never doubted them. Just, never hear others talk about them."
"Yew mean other exorcists."
"Yeah."
"Eh. Most are idiots anyway."
Rin raised a brow but readied his stance. Just in case. Which, in his case was well needed as Shura resumed her lesson mmuch like she started it earlier. Despite the clashing of blades and the pounding of his heart beat, he listened to the conversation between Metatron, and the odd archangel Raphael.
"I need an answer Raphael. Have you been hiding a Clairvoyant from us?"
"You should be watching your little boy. It is my job to watch Shura."
"Raphael, you are an archangel of the lord. If I must raise my words I will."
"The words of a human turned angel when I have fought from the beginning."
"Do you truly believe I or my brother would have been made angels had God not seen us fit?"
"God is kind. Benevolent. His word is absolute."
Rin could hear new blades being pulled out.
"Answer the question Raphael. Is she Clairvoyant?"
Rin felt dread creep through his stomach. Forget appearing sane and rational. He did not want two angels mad and apparently fighting. He had never seen one go all out, heaven forbid two.
"Metatron don't fight him!" he yelled out. Shura paused her strike and three sets of eyes fell to him. Shura's stance relaxed and a softer smile came to her face. Her eyes then locked onto the form of Raphael.
"Yew shoulda tol' me he could seeya Raphael. Always wanted to talk with someone else who could see angels."
Raphael looked cross at Shura's comment. Metatron was glowering as well but for an entirely different reason.
"You knew and said nothing."
"Shura's case was different."
"That she was raised in Gehenna? We all knew that."
"You think it was easy for her to speak with me?!" Raphael hissed. "She was a literal hellion being exposed not only to humanity but angels as well. She kept trying to stab me when I was assigned to her."
"Still do sometimes," Shura chuckled, admitting as much to Rin. She threw an arm around Rin jovially, her sword disappearing into the tattoo on her chest.
"Rin wasn't a basket of roses either!"
"Hey!"
"No offense Rin."
"And yet I'm still offended."
"This somethin' tah do with his "lineage"?"
"You told her?!"
"I told her I could say nothing."
"So she doesn't know I'm Shiro's kid?" Rin said absent mindedly. Shura's eyes bugged.
"Wait. What?!"
"I said that out loud didn't I?"
"Yew sure did," Shura said with a smile as her grip on him tightened.
"You can't tell anyone!"
"Oh please. No one knows yer Shiro's kid or Four-eye's brother."
"Wait, you know them?"
"Sure do! Shiro trained me and I helped Yukio from time tah time."
"Huh."
"Mmhm. And from how yer actin', I'm guessin Shiro an' Yukio don't know yer here."
"Kinda. I should still be at school but Angel kidnapped me. Been stuck here ever since."
"That explains Shiro's short mood lately..."
"He knows?"
"I'm pretty sure."
"Ugh! When I get out of here, I am going to have to make something up. What do you think I should tell them? I was kidnapped by a human trafficking ring or held hostage by some foriegners looking to ransom off thinking I was someone worth far more money than I actually am because I happened to vaguely resemble someone there who was worth a lot of money and they didn't believe me?"
"First one," Shura quickly answered. "More likely."
"I don't know if I should be flattered or offended."
"Raphael, do your job as a guardian angel and guide Shura to not corrupt Rin."
"Guide him not to listen to her."
"I do. That's why he knows how to cover his tracks from less than rational people."
"Aw, our angels are fighting like an old married couple."
"Wha-ew! Not Raphael!"
"Shura angels don't do sensual love."
"That's nasty," Metatron complained, "God remove the thought from my memories please I beg of you!"
Shura and Rin having a fight scene. I know I need the practice and what is a longer running Blue Exorcist series without a little fighting I guess? Comical. Usually a comedy.
Also, I am ninety percent certain I'm just going to stop writing Shura's accent. I can get her words but any time I try to edit, it just erases what I have and I have to retype it over and over again.
