Yukio glowered at Angel for calling Rin his. Rin was not Angel's anything. He stood defiantly between the blond exorcist and his brother. He felt positively livid and his anger was barely restrained, knowing that Rin was still lying unconscious in the bed behind him and he didn't want to him wake up to violence. If, by some small miracle he had no idea about demons, if he somehow couldn't see demons, he would want to keep it that way.
He didn't want to fathom that Rin had stood by his side, hiding behind a mask, playfully being flirty, and taking a woman's name to be called. There had to be some other reason he was there. He was the biological child of Satan, just like him. Who was to say that he wasn't dragged there and held by the demon king of earth? That Magdalene had found out and tragically lost their life in the process? Yeah, he would stick to that until Rin could confirm it.
"He is my brother," Yukio spoke lowly, a threat laced in his tone. Angel held steadfast, but an epiphany came to him. He recalled when he first met Rin, that he had said that his family told him that demons that they saw were not real. And he was related to the youngest licensed exorcist ever. How had he ever been missed? Why had he been denied what he could see? He couldn't help but release an uncomfortable laugh as the other exorcists stood back in confusion and worry.
"You're his brother? He never mentioned having one. Tell me though. Can your father see demons as you two can?"
"You're wrong," Yukio cried out, "Rin can't see demons!"
"Yukio, calm down," Shiro spoke in an eerily even tone. "Arthur, even if this is who you believe it is, the poor boy in unconscious, and should not be moved. He is recovering well here, but moving him could cause injury or aggravate one into a more dangerous position and put his life at risk. And you are not a doctor of any kind. Yukio is. I ask that you leave the room so he may heal unhindered."
The words were lacking any emotion, but the order was clear. Angel looked back at Rin's blocked form. He snickered.
"I will wait outside for him to wake. So that I may return the sword he uses to him," he spoke arrogantly. Yukio's jaw tightened at the comment, and a comforting wave spread slowly through him as Angel left for the hall and Shimei left the herbs for Rin.
The two fretted over Rin and were left for their thoughts to fester for who knew how long.
"This is going to be complicated," Shiro finally sighed.
"They can't truly believe Rin is Magdalene," Yukio stated, "Rin's never shown signs of being able to see demons. And Magdalene is an exorcist, not a trainee. There is no way he would be able to receive a Masho and become an exorcist in that short of time."
"I know. But Arthur believes that Rin is Magdalene. And without Magdalene's body, it is hard to disprove it."
"Rin can't lie! You know he's a bad liar," Yukio argued. "He couldn't have hid that he could see demons."
There was a crooning whimper from the bed. Both Yukio and Shiro went silent and turned towards the bed. Rin's blank face was scrunched in what looked like pain. Neither saw Metatron gently carding his fingers through his hair, soothing him against his pain as best as he could.
"Rin?" Yukio said in a softer decibel. There was another soft groan.
"Rin? Are you going to sleep the day away?" Shiro joked.
"Mmm. Nah' g'nna." Rin said with exhaustion thick in his voice. Much like he was going to fall asleep any second.
Yukio rushed to Rin and pulled him into a sitting position and into a tight hug. Rin hummed and leaned into his brother's embrace.
Metatron watched with melancholy as the small reprieve of thankfulness was enjoyed by the small family. He missed the intimacy that a mortal lifestyle could bring. He had to pull his eyes away when he heard the familiar wing flaps of approaching angels.
"Metatron, I'm back," Sandalphon spoke when he entered. Zadkiel appeared far less frantic but with a socially acceptable smile on his face.
"Will you give us some space Metatron? We do not want to attract unneeded attention with what we will be doing."
"But Rin just woke up," Metatron said with a slightly broken tone. Zadkiel pulled Metatron's hands into his own.
"Metatron, we will watch him and keep him safe, as you did with Yukio not a moment ago," he spoke in a comforting lilt. Metatron pouted.
"Fine. But alert me when you're done. He still needs help and healing."
"Of course," Zadkiel affirmed. Metatron left slowly, his eyes darting between the angels and Rin who was still in his brother's arms. Zadkiel's smile disappeared and his face grew blank. He lowered to the ground and put his hands on Yukio's shoulders, just under Rin's arms. His voice, usually pleasant and soft came like a torrent.
"Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world."
Zadkiel did his best to ignore the sting coming from the miasma slowing in Yukio's body, attempting to remove the darkest portion of the miasma from latching and scarring his heart.
"You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart."
Rin's hand lowered over Zadkiel's surprising the angel. His eyes left Yukio's form for a moment to look at Rin's hand. Rin tightened his hand as much as he could in encouragement. Rin's head lifted slightly to try and look Zadkiel in his eye. Zadkiel gave a small smile to the Clairvoyant boy. He moved the free hand over Rin's. He looked back to Yukio's form.
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me." he spoke with a booming voice.
"Rin, thank god you're okay," Yukio cried in a watery tone.
"M' Fine M'ley M'ng'ne," Rin slurred.
"It would take more than a nasty fall to take Rin out," Shiro boisterously declared.
"Sh've it Ol' Man," Rin responded a bit louder but still sounding as tired.
"Old Man? Ha. I miss the days you would call me Papa. Oh you were so cute back then."
"EEEHHHH?" Rin loudly groaned.
"You and Yukio both used to run up to me and hold my leg. You two were both adorable," he gushed, not focusing on anything other than his boys and their reunion.
"Dad!" the twins both complained.
"You were," he smiled at his two boys.
"Dad huh?"
Yukio tensed his grip holding Rin. Shiro tensed and turned seeing Angel had returned to check on the progress. His face was unsettling.
"Magdalene? Or are you alright with them calling you Rin?" Angel questioned. Rin wanted to glare at the man who made him an exorcist against his will, no doubt bringing a chaos he never wanted to have occur. And he was too exhausted to try and deal with the situation.
"'M tired," he said and let his body relax against Yukio's warmth to quickly fall asleep. A large yawn escaped him and sleep overcame him. Yukio just held onto Rin, similarly to how he would when he and Rin were very little and before he was training to be an exorcist.
"Would you let him rest?"
"Would you like to explain how your son doesn't know about demons? A blessed being being raised by the Paladin and never brought before the Vatican?"
"Rin could never see demons," he spoke with certainty. "He has never once mentioned or showed any sign of being able to see demons of any kind."
"Nonetheless, he will come to the Vatican to be looked over. After all, Caliburn recognizes him as a blessed individual."
"But he can't see demons," Yukio argued, still holding Rin close. A terse smile came to Angel's face.
"A blessed individual would be targeted by demons, no matter how well they are protected. If he's not Magdalene, well, he will need protection. Besides, the Vatican can verify if he is Magdalene."
"You'll be proven wrong," Yukio spat.
"Yukio, enough," Shiro cut him off before he could say anything else. "I'm sure you've contacted the Vatican already?" Shiro addressed Angel coldly.
"I have."
Sandalphon looked over to Zadkiel who had a look of discomfort. His eyes were locked on Yukio, his hands holding steady as he recited the verses once more aloud. Sandalphon felt a sense of uselessness, knowing that Yukio's darkness, was starting to grow.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I am an essential employee. And it is infuriating. I cannot tell you how many people refuse to wear masks under the whole "My RiGhTs!" nonsense. I understand medical, I know one who wears a lanyard explaining her panic attacks from her mouth and nose being covered and does her best to keep distance and not come in unless needed. I am so ready for this to be over.
On the other hand, it does have me retreat into my fanfiction mind more often so more chapters for a little bit I guess.
