Hey, so I'm going to try and knock out two chapters before Christmas. Then probably take a week or two off from any writing, start on the next Rising in January, then probably Bisca's Journey.
Secondly, I was going to try and keep the horrible stuff for chapter five or six, but…meh. It'll probably be chapter 4 for a messed up kind of thing. Lastly, if you have an idea, just PM me. No need to use your review just to give ideas when a message will work just fine.
Now onto the next chapter!
Chapter Three: Wreckfest
Lucy drank deeply, the chilled glass of water slaking her thirst during this hot day. With beads of sweat starting to collect toward her cleavage, she was thankful Mira had handed out pitchers to the guild.
"That was quite refreshing. Thank you, Mira" Erza commented politely, the knight setting down her own glass.
"A glass of water quenches thirst like nothing else. Thank you" Smiling with her own pleasantness, Hisui barely had to look before Kamika refilled the glass for the young queen.
"Gray…you can have some of my water…" Juvia stated, the blue haired mage leaning forward in an attempt to seduce, the woman showing off cleavage.
"Uh…the pitcher is fine?" Not liking the hungry look she gave him, the man turned away as Mira retook her seat next to Levy, the woman's maroon dress giving a light flutter.
"I wonder what type of timeline we'll see next?" Pantherlily asked, the exceed having flown to the table with the gray cube. Holding his chin, he tried to gain some understanding of the technology, but it was lost to him.
"Only one way to find out!" Hitting the green button, the lenses of the cube lit up while the familiar lines of blue glowed with activation.
"Remember Levy, if we see any of the women in the shower, Don't sever the connection" Bicslow added with a finger wave, only to receive a palm to the back of the head, courteous of Evergreen.
"Idiot"
"Alright, let's just watch and find out" Makarov reasoned as the guild turned to the wall now showing a new universe.
A sprawling track shaped like a figure eight was nestled in the middle of a large stadium, the seats filled with crowds of people who unleashed constant cheers.
Large, concrete barriers lined the course of concrete, the barricades showing significant wear and tear. Behind a checkered line, twenty four vehicles rumbled, their engines vibrating in anticipation. Some were blocky, others appeared to be far more streamlined as painted names such as Mud Diver, Sarge, and Car Carnage adorned the sides, hoods and roof in blazing letters. Multiple vehicles seemed to have lengthy, flat bars of steel along their flanks, while the front and rear bumpers were reinforced with other pieces of metal.
All the vehicles were missing windows and headlights, leaving the helmeted drivers prone to the elements while several bars could be seen inside behind wire mesh, providing support against the roof and sides.
Then of course, there was the sheer amount of colors. Black and red. Purple and green. Blue with burning white flames painted on the sides. It was a rainbow tapestry mixed with flecks of rust, slogans, and in the case of Fallout, a large bobble head attached to the roof. Bouncing lightly, the face was cracked while the pale blonde hair hid the mischievous grin of a boy.
"Ugh, they look like those horrible transports that city used. And they look weird" Natsu groaned, the man already disinterested.
"We barely had a chance to study them before that city was destroyed. Such a strange design compared to magic mobiles. And why are they all lined up? Some sort of vehicle race?" Lisanna asked, the woman looking around for further ideas.
"Maybe? It does look like a track of some kind. But why a figure eight?" Laxus pondered.
"Whatever. Just looking at all those stupid things make me feel sick" Natsu waved in dismissal, the fire mage crossing his arms in a light huff. "Can you change it, Mira?"
"Not yet. I'm curious to see these strange magic mobiles in action" Grinning at her friend, she knew quite well how he hated all transportation.
Centering on a black car with flames along the sides, War Machine rumbled as others around did the same.
Hanging above the twenty four assorted vehicles by nearly a dozen feet, a hanging box with three lights blinked, going from red to green after three seconds.
Moments after the hanging light turned green, the drivers of all the vehicles roared their engines while tires squealed in protest against the tarmac.
Immediately taking the first right curve of the figure eight, several cars started to brush up against each other, creating slews of sparks as paint flayed.
Mud Digger, a larger truck suddenly swerved into a smaller vehicle at the sharp right turn, wedging it against the wall as screaming metal and siding roared in hails of flying sparks. Bumpers hit rear ends, vehicles ground against each other while tires squealed and burned with acrid smoke.
Roaring through the cross intersection, War Machine slammed into Starbeast from the right hand side of the track, the bug-like car careening into the wall with a crunch of metal. Hit immediately from behind by Raptor, the maelstrom of carnage was only beginning.
"This…THIS IS MANLY! YEAH!" Pumping his fists at the rampant destruction, Elfman roared his approval.
"NOW THIS IS MORE LIKE IT! DESTROY ALL THOSE CARS!" Natsu joined in, his smile infectious.
"You just asked Mira to change it! Make up your mind!" Lucy shot back.
"Come on Luce. All transportation is evil, you know that. This is what we should do with all cars" Natsu replied, the young man completely convinced in his opinion.
"It seems rather wasteful to use vehicles in this fashion" Bisca added, only to look over at her husband displaying a huge grin.
"This is awesome…"
"Ugh"
War Machine was hit from behind, the heavy metal bar protecting the rear, but caused a slight loss of control. Barreling along the concrete barrier, the scream of sparks flew before the black muscle car pulled away and re-slammed into the larger Mud Digger, causing a fresh crump of metal and damage.
Taking another hard left into the next bend, War Machine shot through the intersection, barely missed by Killer Bee as the yellow car with racing stripes T-boned Zapper, the impact slewing both vehicles into a fresh hell of heavy impacts as more racing cars thundered into the zone.
Hardrail had spun out, the green station wagon then hit by two more racers. Ripping off the left paneling of Nailhead, the car slewed with squealing tires, leaving carnage behind as the race continued.
In the stands, the crowd cheered at the destruction, with each collision and crump of metal eliciting more cheers and yells.
Racing into fifteenth place, War Machine passed the checkered line, then retook the starting curve with numerous cars surrounding. Most already had visible damage by crumpled hoods, impacted doors, or missing impact bumpers as their engines roared.
Turning harshly at the tight curve, War Machine over compensated, the black vehicle driving along the left hand concrete wall as hails of fresh sparks flew. Hit from the other side by Tristar, the green painted car crumpled the passenger side inward before driving off.
War Machine followed straight into the intersection, the roaring engine a growl of mechanical strength.
Tristar was hit in a T-bone collision by Metal Knight, the velocity of full speed flinging the green Tristar on its side before two more vehicles slammed into the vehicle, indenting the roof as pieces of metal flew among howls of sparks and squealing tires.
War Machine hit Tristar in its distress, crumping the hood and ruining the grill before slewing off into twelfth place. Behind, the intersection had become a maelstrom of colliding cars, flinging Killer Bee into the air as the car was simple devastated by a two hit collision. Rolling as pieces of the undercarriage ripped free, the vehicle hit the concrete barrier, leaving it a mangled mess before it managed to slowly tip onto its four wheels.
Engine growling with puffing smoke with most of the roof caved in and the left side bowed in, Killer Bee spun its tires, re-entering the carnage as most of its front grill was gone.
"This is so cool" Gajeel added, the iron studded man appreciating the use of metal for destruction.
"I like it when the cars get smashed" Natsu chimed in with a grin.
"It's stupid! All they're doing is running into each other!? How is this enjoyable!?" Kamika shouted, the knight and guard stupefied how this race could draw a full stadium crowd.
"You just don't get it" Gray offered with a wave, dismissing the complaint. "OH MAN! That one just got totaled!" Pointing at the visual display, Gray's words rang true.
Tail Light's engine was on fire, the car beyond salvation as it rested on its roof near the cross intersection. Struck by Brickhouse, the second car careened into the wall, its own engine smoking black as it came to a halt.
War Machine growled, the demolition derby car braking at the next curve while wedged between two others. Bounced back and forth by the hostile drivers, more sparks flew as the group roared through the center of the figure eight track.
Bone Rattler was pushed into a wall, the station wagon of purple paint hitting at the wrong point. Flipping up and over in a cartwheel of loosened pieces that covered the tarmac, it came to rest on its side before two more trailing cars smashed into the purple car, turning it into a twisted, smoking wreck in the middle of the track.
War Machine continued to race, swerving around two more wrecks in the middle of the left hand curve as the tires burned. Taking another hit from Mud Digger, the driver almost lost control, but slammed back in a counter that scoured paint in fresh screams of metal.
Coming up behind Grand Duke, War Machine slammed into the gnarled bumper, spinning the red sedan out in a fresh howl of tires. Hitting the concrete barricade with the corner of the rear end, the body zone crumpled before the driver regained control, the engine growling to regain eighth place.
The crowd roared in fanatical cheer as Thunderbeast hit Dark Coffee head on, the impact flinging scraps across the roadway as the secondary vehicle came to a stop along the inner wall, its race ended in failure. Barely running, Thunderbeast made it to the next turn before being struck in the front left as the car started to cross the hellish intersection. Spun out across the gap, it was hit three more times as several other cars treated it like scrap, pushing the wreck to the side in a bid to gain position.
"This is crazy! Why would they use such technical marvels on some destruction race!? Those vehicles could change transportation for Earthland and these people just smash them up!" Evergreen shouted, the busty brunette not understanding why.
"Heh, its manly! No need to think about it after that…MANLY!"
"I'm sorry Elfman, but Evergreen is correct. This is very wasteful" Lisanna offered, but her brother ignored her words, his eyes taking in every moment of vehicular carnage.
Strawberry Killer screeched in a hard brake, swerving around the vehicular corpse of Banshee that had come to a stop in the middle of the intersection. Racing past with a missing hood and mangled front end, the bright red vehicle was hit and pushed into the protection wall, causing a fresh howl of sparks before pushing back against Hotshot.
DESTROY THAT CAR! STRAWBERRIES MUST BE CHERISHED!" Pumping her fists in a roar, Erza suddenly cheered for destruction.
"YEAH! MORE DESTTRUCTION!" Natsu cheered along with his teammate, the two watching as Strawberry Killer was hit in the deadly center of the track and sent into a horrid barrel roll.
"Don't misunderstand Natsu, I was merely cheering for the preservation of Strawberries" Not finding fault in the logic, the crimson knight agreed with herself as the carnage continued.
War Machine was slammed from behind by Sarge, the crunch of metal barely heard over the growls of engines and the screech of tires on tarmac. Thundering through the intersection, both vehicles were barely missed by Mud Digger and four more coming from the right.
Unfortunately for Banshee, that particular car had been caught in the wrong place at the wrong time as it was devasted by a right side T-bone impact. Crunching metal caved in the passenger side of Hotshot, pushing the mangled race car into the closest wall. A fresh sound of carnage rose from the three vehicle collision as the two pushers were hit from behind by the low slung Nexus.
Pieces of Ground Hog were thrown free, specifically, the paneling that protected the right side of the trunk as the mangled scraps of metal just lay on the track. Trying to dislodge from each other, the snarl of collisions finally disengaged after War Machine and Sarge raced past, the two not inclined to be caught up in the maelstrom.
Passing over the checkered line, War Machine took the first turn to the right in a long braking glide of burning rubber with Sarge in direct pursuit. Speeding toward the intersection once more, both racers evaded the cross traffic as Hornet was pushed into the smoking wreck of Strawberry Killer. Flipped upwards top over end as pieces of the undercarriage came free, the yellow and black striped car came to a rest on its roof in the middle of the small straightaway toward the checkered line. Smashed in the side by a belching, half dead Penny Puncher, the bug shaped vehicle ruined itself as the two became a meshed hell of ruined scrap and metal.
Sarge slammed into War Machine from the left side, the sparks howling as the two continued to battle each other. A panel came off of War Machine's body near the left front, exposing the wheel well and some of the workings of the engine. Tapping the brakes, the driver let Sarge roar past, allowing the green vehicle to fly into the intersection of the track…only to be double hit by Mud Digger and the mangled Ground Hog. Pushed into the left hand portion of the intersection, Sarge was barely alive as its attackers broke away, their fronts a hellish twist of ruin.
War Machine crossed the checkered line, the machine now in third place as it sped up to reach Fallout and Nail Head. Taking that familiar right hand turn of the figure eight, the black car with flames on the side pushed hard to catch the duo. Narrowly avoiding two scattered wrecks in the way, the trio weaved and roared through the center of the track, narrowly avoiding the other race cars that seemed content to destroy each other.
"This is so awesome! Right Lily?" Gajeel asked, only to receive a 'shush' from Laki.
Fallout swerved into Nailhead, the light blue box shaped car now missing the bouncing bobble head, along with slews of damage along the right hand length of the vehicle. Fresh crunches of metal rose from the two interlocked in battle, allowing War Machine to close the gap along the minor straight away of the center zone. Tires burning with a fresh squeal, War Machine managed to get on the inside of the turn, passing the two as Nail Head tried to cause a spin out. Hitting the wall, Nail Head came away with more damage as Fallout continued to be a nuisance.
Screaming through the last turn before the intersection and finish line, War Machine was now in the lead with wounds from vehicular battle apparent. Missing the front fender and grill, along with the ripped away paneling from the left side, the black painted car had been smashed at nearly every point as indents, scours of tearing and visual damage were apparent.
But the engine roared, visible now with the missing hood long gone during the fourth lap. Peeling through the intersection as Fallout and Nail Head lagged behind, War Machine crossed the finish line to sounds of cheers from the crowd.
Multiple flags began to wave from the work crews behind the barricades, the checkered pattern a flutter at multiple points.
Beginning to slow, War Machine finally came to a stop as the other cars began to finish the race, their mangled bodies showing carnage.
"Damn. Only nine survived to make it across the finish line" Max offered in observation.
"WHO CARES!? That means the rest were destroyed!" Grinning with a thumbs up, Natsu turned to Hisui. "Hey, think you could do that with all the cars in Fiore? Just smash them up?"
"I'm not doing that. In fact, I will open a new department for new technologies to be developed…once I return to the castle"
"But…but the cars are smashed! That's a good thing!" Wailing, the dragon slayer slumped against the table, his chin resting upon the wood in disappointment. "Such evil things…"
Getting a comforting pat from Happy, the cat offered nothing else as Cosmos and Kamika commented the queen on her foresight to develop something new.
"If I had to guess, that world must use those vehicles as entertainment. Maybe they're so abundant in use that they can afford to just have a…a…smashing race?" Gray said, his opinion making some sense.
"Still, it seems wasteful and by the looks of it, the event is over" Levy observed as she hit the button, ending the connection.
"Man! I want to watch one again! Or even better, drive in one and smash things up…LIKE A MAN!" Elfman bellowed, the younger brother still pumped up.
"You will do no such thing" Evergreen chastised, the woman ending the dream of Elfman in seconds.
"I'm just glad that horrible Strawberry Killer was stopped before committing any crimes"
Cana stared at Erza, the brunette in disbelief. "You do realize that was probably just a racing name, Erza? I doubt some of the others like War Machine, Hornet and Mud Digger actually did anything aside from racing"
Erza huffed, crossing her arms beneath her sizable bust. "Still, the threat was neutralized so I believe it was worth the time to watch"
Cana just shook her head, then drank some beer. After all, changing Erza's mind was pointless anyway…especially when it came to that damn dessert.
"Should we watch another right away?" Wendy inquired, the young woman secretly finding the race entertaining.
"As long as it's not something stupid like that again. So dumb" Lucy commented.
"You just don't understand the appeal of destruction!" Gildarts added with a broad projection of his voice, gaining the support of several men…which in turned made most of the women groan from the stupidity.
"Well, I guess we can just watch the next universe in a minute" Pondering, the woman made no effort to push the green button, letting the guild talk amongst themselves about the recent car carnage.
So this was just a short, little chapter. A demo derby like Wreckfest which I've played recently. Decided a figure eight track would be simplest.
Anyway, next chapter will be started this weekend and hopefully done by Christmas! After that, I'm probably going to take a week off from writing just to relax the mind grape.
So hope you all enjoy!
The Happy
