Chapter 1: Devil in a Mask (3/5)

Fox Boy:

Things just got more difficult for Fox Boy. He found a safe place to spend the night, or as safe as it could be. He took refuge in a factory or, he thinks it's called a factory. But there was a problem, there were several infected on the inside. So he quickly got rid of them using his sword. Once everything was clear, he sat down to play some music on his melodica. But before he could start, he heard the same door that he used to enter. A considerably loud door, as it made quite the noise when opened.

Now he was just sitting down, playing the Melodica as the people that entered observed him from the shadows. Why haven't they shot me yet? Fox Boy asked himself. They might want to interrogate me, if that's the case, I can't get caught.

In front of him was a small electric lantern that he actually found inside of that house he was staying with Boris. That barely illuminates his surroundings, but it was the only thing available in the house that he was staying in.

He kept on playing his melodica, while looking around his surroundings. As although it looked like he had his eyes covered, he could see through the mask.

Here's for you, Nicola and Bart.

Rest forever here in my heart.

Your last and final moment was mine.

That agony is unforgettable.

Fox Boy hated that song, despite it being something he came up with by altering another song's lyrics. After observing around for a bit, he sees a door on the second floor that probably leads to a room or something. He decides to put his melodica back on his backpack and move.

Ellie:

Ellie was currently crouched behind Joel, observing the masked guy that they assume that it's the one called Fox Boy. The two observed as he played a song on an instrument that looked like a mixture of a harmonica and a keyboard that Ellie actually liked how it sounded. Suddenly, he stops playing his instrument and puts it back on his backpack. He then grabbed a sword from the ground. The sword was a one-handed straight blade, which he probably used to cut down the Clickers that she and Joel saw, which was no easy task. Fox Boy then grabbed an electric lantern from the ground and started to walk.

"Stay quiet?" Joel told her as he started to walk slowly in the same direction as him. With her following behind him.

I hope Dina is okay, we don't know if Tommy and her found shelter in time. Ellie thought in worry as she couldn't stop thinking about it. But she decided to focus on what she and Joel were doing right now, which was trying to get this weird guy with a mask and try to get some answers from him.

Both Joel and Ellie walked while crouching trying to not make any noise while following the one with the mask as he walked around the factory. This place gives me the creeps. It was her main opinion on that factory, mostly due to the situation that they were in. That guy looks like something straight out of those serial killer movies that Jesse likes so much. Ellie thought as she followed behind Joel

As they notice Fox Boy turning left, where Ellie suspected that the stairs that lead upstairs were. Joel and Ellie followed as quietly as possible. Both hid behind a wall and observed as he walked. He had a very awkward and robotic walk.

Joel went on first as Fox Boy takes the first step to climb up the stairs.

What's upstairs? Ellie wondered as they heard his steps closely.

They waited hearing his loud steps closely as he climbed the stairs. They were also paying attention to the light from the lantern that he was carrying. Which suddenly disappeared. "Wait, where did it go?" Ellie whispered to Joel.

"Stay on your guard." Joel whispered back. Then he pulls out his handgun and he starts to approach the stairs.

Ellie did the same, following behind Joel in order to cover him. The guy has a sword and a gun, we really need to be careful.

Both walk slowly as they reach the stairs, climbing it as slowly as they can, but as they get closer, Ellie feels increasingly uneasy. Where the hell did he go? She couldn't help but wonder as they saw absolutely no sign of the light. As Joel is two steps to reach the top, Ellie looks up and holds her gun tightly. But as soon as Joel reaches the top, something happens.

A hand came out of nowhere from Joel left and hit him on the nose with the bottom of his face. Then Fox Boy came out of the and delivered a very hard shove at Joel, which made him stumble back and fall down the stairs. Ellie unfortunately ended up stumbling back as well, due to Joel falling over her. Once the two completely rolled to the bottom of the stairs. Both struggle to get up, as Ellie is feeling some horrible pain in her left arm. "AAAAHHHHHH! SHIT!"

Joel quickly reached for his gun in order to point at Fox Boy. But when he does, he notices that he isn't there anymore. Ellie looked at Joel, who was struggling to stand up. "Are you okay?" Joel asked her in worry.

"AAAAHHHHH! My fucking arm!" She yelled in response. The moment that she took a good look at her arm, she could tell that it was broken. "FUCK!"

Joel quickly came over to check on it, probably ignoring his own injury as he was grunting in pain as he did. "Shit, don't move it." He told her.

Fox Boy:

It was the girl from early, with a man that has the same voice as the one I heard on the radio. But no sign of the other girl, so they already know I'm here. Fox Boy thought as he hid in the shadow and prepared himself for an attack. He didn't have much ammo on his gun, so he had to improvise as he would be at a disadvantage in case of a shootout. He can hear the girl screaming in pain, probably because she broke something in the fall. Making his way to an office that was on the second floor, Fox Boy decided to hide himself in the dark.

Something that turned out to be a good idea, as he could hear footsteps coming in his direction. Suddenly, that same man that he pushed down the stairs, came running with a gun at hand. He probably noticed that I don't have enough ammo for a shootout. Fox Boy pulled his own handgun out to check how many bullets he had. Five bullets. That was the quantity left and he couldn't waste it, so he decided to put his gun back in the holster and prepare himself to engage at close range. The man walking slowly and minding his surroundings, Fox Boy could tell that he was experienced and that he would have to be careful. He probably left the girl on the stairs, going down was not really an option now as she's probably guarding it.

The office that Fox Boy was hiding in was pretty empty with a few desks on it that had some things on top and some boxes next to the walls, which doesn't give him many options for cover. Darkness was his only ally at the moment, so he himself on the wall besides the door and waited

The man wasted no time in entering the office with his pistol at hand, carefully opening it to search for him. He had a flashlight that was illuminating the other side of the room. He stood on the other side of the door for a bit, until he finally took a step inside. To the man's misfortune, the moment he entered the room completely Fox Boy reached inside of his coat's pocket and grabbed a bit of blinding powder that he had there for emergencies. With Fox Boy charging towards him and tossing the blinding powder into his eyes. "AH!" With the man justifiably grunting as a mixture of ash, dust and sand enters his eyesight. While temporarily blinded, he attempted to shoot at Fox Boy, however, he grabbed his wrist with his left hand pushed away from him, with the gun going off and the bullet hitting the wall instead.

Fox Boy then delivered both a downward elbow strike and an upward knee strike at the same time on his forearm. Causing him to drop his pistol, and Fox Boy kicked away as soon as it hit the floor. Before he grabbed the man's arm and performed a knee drop shoulder throw. "AH!" With the man screaming in pain as soon as he fell on the hard wooden floor. Once he was down, Fox Boy grabbed the man, forced him to sit up and placed him in a rear naked choke in order to finish him off without wasting ammunition. "AAAHH!" The man grabbed his arm and attempted to make him let go of the hold, but Fox Boy's grip was just too tight around his neck.

As the man was about to lose consciousness due to the blood choke. Two loud gunshots were heard by him and he felt the impact of the bullet on his back. Forcing him to let go of the hold and fall forward, where he saw that the girl with auburn hair just shot him in the with a handgun. Unfortunately for her, she didn't realize that his duffel coat was actually bulletproof. Realizing way too late that it didn't actually do anything to him, because Fox Boy drew his Walther P38 and was about to shoot her with it.

However, the man grabbed Fox Boy's hand, causing him to miss the shot. Before he actually managed to pin Fox Boy into the floor. I'm too weak, I haven't eaten anything since yesterday. Fox Boy thought in deep frustration due to how easily he was overpowered by the man.

"Don't fucking move!" The girl ordered him as he pointed the gun at his face.

Fox Boy doesn't know why he is still alive right now. "Okay" He decided to comply as the man grabbed his gun and pointed at him as well.

"You're the one I talked to on the radio, weren't you?" He asked Fox Boy again.

"Yes." Fox Boy replied again.

"I'm only gonna ask this once, who are you people?" He asked another question.

A small pause ensued as Fox Boy had a small problem. "I don't know how to answer your question."

"What do you mean you don't know?" The girl asked in deep confusion.

"I don't know who they are myself." Fox Boy has been with them for as long as he can remember, but he himself doesn't really know anything about them. Except for one thing. "They call themselves the Normandies."

"Normandies?" The girl seemed to be confused with the name.

"Okay, how many of you are there?" The man asked him as he held his pistol very close to his face.

Fox Boy did count all of them at once, though he doesn't know if the number is still the same as it was a long time ago. "Ummm... Four hundred fifty thousand." That was the number he got last time.

"What?!" The man seemed very surprised by that number and he looked at the girl who was widened in response.

"That was the number last time I counted." Fox Boy replied.

"What do your people want with Jackson?" The girl asked him in visible confusion.

"I don't know, they just sent me here to prepare the ground for the invasion." Fox Boy spoke honestly, though, he feels like he shouldn't be telling them any of this.

"Who are you then?" The man asked him.

"I'm Fox Boy." He replied while pointing towards himself.

"What kind of stupid fucking name is Fox Boy anyway?" The girl asked him as she continued to aim her pistol at him.

"What is your name?" Fox Boy asked her in curiosity.

"Ellie." She responded.

"Your name is pretty." He told her in response.

Suddenly a small pause started in the room where the two stared at him with strange looking faces after Fox Boy said that.

"Alright, w-" The man attempted to ask him another question but he decided to stop answering his question. Before the man could finish what he was going to ask, Fox Boy grabbed his arm and put him in a triangle choke. "AHH!"

"Hey!" Ellie attempted to aim her pistol at him, but Fox Boy was able to retake his Walther P38 from the man's hand and using it to shoot at her with his right hand while the left hand held his arm, however, his aim wasn't the best due to his position, so he ended up missing the shoot but it did force her to step out of the room to take cover.

He then starts to apply pressure on him with the man struggling in an attempt to break free from the choke but it seems that he had no idea on how to defend against it. It lasted a few more seconds as he fired three more shots at the door to keep Ellie from entering. Eventually, the man completely lost consciousness. Fox Boy then let go of the choke and rolled backwards to stand up.

Ellie almost immediately reentered the room and attempted to shoot him again, but Fox Boy ran as fast as he could towards one of the boarded windows of that office. She shot at him four times, but missed. Before she could pull the trigger one more time, Fox Boy jumped through the window. Unfortunately for him, the way down was considerable.
