Ch 3

Rosalie continued to rock David even when she could feel that he was fast asleep. A vampire actually needing rest? This will definitely be something down in history. It might have been only a few hours but she has already fallen in love with the little boy.

He was such a darling and the fact that he doesn't consume blood like the rest of them makes him more special and pure than any other. He will never have the stains of blood in his hands. He can stay pure and innocent, and she'll make damn sure he stays this way. She'll have to learn some vegan dishes since he'll probably be hungry once he wakes up.

The main problem will be the Volturi. There's no doubt in her mind once Aro and the rest actually learns of who and what David is they'll stop at nothing to obtain him. An immortal child that not only doesn't drink blood but can command nature itself. It's almost the ultimate prize, any vampire will want him.

"Alice." Rosalie spoke gaining everyone's attention. "Is there a chance?" She has to protect David and will rather die than let those monsters even touch him. Alice was in deep thought, her trademark when she's looking at possible futures. About thirty minutes had passed until Alice looked back up. Everyone tensed, she must have seen many different possibilities.

"Out of all that I've seen, there's only one where he lives and stays with us." everyone visibly relaxed, even if there's only one chance it's still better than nothing.

"However," Alice spoke again. "You won't like it either."

"What do you mean?" Rosalie asked nervously.

"They will demand that David spend periods of time with them." That was what Rosalie feared. She didn't want David having any contact with those creatures. She's afraid that they'll poison his innocence with their blood lust.

"How long?" She asked Alice.

"A few months every other year." Well at least it's only a few months and not years. Rosalie will of course worry herself to death but this might be the best outcome for everyone.

"So then, what do we need to do?" Esme asked. Alice looked looked over to Edward.

"We both need to go there and show Aro. That's the only way." Edward grimaced at that. The last thing he wanted was for Aro to look into his mind. But if Alice says so then this is the only course of action they have.

"When do we need to leave?" He asked Alice.

"Immediately." This was a surprise and soon, way too soon. Rosalie held onto the sleeping David tighter. Alice looked at her sympathetically.

"I know how you feel, but the greatest chance we have at keeping him is the soonest that we go to them." Rosalie nodded but was still worried. Emmett walked up to her and gave her and David a hug. He already knew that Rosalie will never give David up and he's resolved to protect them both.

It was decided that Charlisle and Jasper will accompany Alice and Edward to Volterra while the rest will remain. Once they have been given the ok, Rosalie, Emmett and Esme will bring David. Edward told Bella to say with them. Getting flights was an easy task and just as fast as the decision was made they headed off.

"Well while we wait we should go get some food for the little one." Esme said. Since they know he eats only vegetation it'll be an easy narrow selection of foods. It'll have to be nothing processed which is fine since there's a farmer's market not too far. Maybe they can start growing their own garden.

Esme has always imagined doing something like gardening with her grandchildren and now she very well has that opportunity. Belle enlisted her services to help Esme so that left Rosalie and Emmett alone in the house with David.

All three were on the couch with David peacefully sleeping on her lap. Rosalie couldn't stop looking at his angelic face as he slept. There was no better feeling on earth. This right here is what she was meant to do.

Thinking about David it brought back that they don't even have a bed for him...or a room for that matter. And then there's games and toys and books and things to teach him like reading and math. There's so much to do. Emmett could clearly see the gears that's turning in Rosalie's head and couldn't help but snort a laugh.

"What?" She asked pointedly.

"Oh nothing, it's just sexy how much of a mother hen you are now." If Rosalie could blush she would be red crimson.

"Oh shut up, idiot." She retorted which only made him laugh more. She looked back down at David and gently stroked his head. This felt right.

"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to him or you." Emmett promised.

"I know." She replied. Time passed as Esme and Belle came back from the market. Esme was about to prepare dinner for David when Rosalie handed him to Emmett so that she could. She didn't know any recipes that only included vegetables but luckily Esme got a Vegan cook book which had a lot of recipes so she decided to keep it safe and go for a tomato and bean stew.

"Hmmm." David mumbled as he was roused from his nap from the smell of something delicious.

"Hey little man, had a nice sleep?" David looked up to see that he was sitting on Emmett's lap. He turned his head to see where did Rosalie go.

"Don't worry kid, Rose is in the kitchen making something good for ya." David was relieved since he was definitely hungry. He rubbed the sleepiness out of his eyes.

"Ready for some food?" David nodded. Emmett stood up and carried David into the kitchen. When they entered they were both greeted with the sight of Rosalie happily cooking with an apron on. David took a whiff knew whatever she was cooking was delicious.

"And who's this sexy lady in the kitchen?" Emmett joked. Rosalie turned around to him not amused, but smiled once she saw David. She just finished cooking a vegetable stew with peppers, corn, carrots and potatoes. A strange combination, but the recipe said that it was a good first start in cooking vegan.

"Hello sweetheart, did you have a good nap?" She asked David. He responded by nodding his head. Emmett placed David in a chair and Rosalie brought the stew to him. David took a wiff of the stew and could drool at how good it smelled. He grabbed a spoon and went to town eating.

The adults, excluding Belle, watched in content and fascination as the child ate and didn't throw it back up. It really brings up the question of how does he digest it? But Rosalie was thinking of a different issue. She turned to Esme

"We need to get a room for him. A bed, more cloths, some books and toys and..." Rosalie begs to ramble until Esme cut her off.

"Honey calm down. Well turn one of the guest rooms Into the perfect little boy's room and Tomorrow we can go out and get everything that he'll need." Rosalie agreed as David finished eating. Oh boy, he was stuffed. He didn't know what Rosalie made but it was great! Rosalie looked and almost chuckled at the sight of David who had soup all over his face.

She instinctively grabbed a napkin and began wiping his face clean. David was confused at first since no one has done that to him so he didn't know what Rosalie was doing.

"There, that's better." She commented after cleaning his face. David was about to say thank you until he felt himself being picked up. He turned his head to see Emmett grinning at him.

"Hey champ, how about you and me go out and play?" David hasn't played with someone else for such a long time. For the first time in a long time David had a huge smile on his face.

"Yeah!" He said gleefully which only made Emmett's grin widen more. He took David outside in the front yard as Rosalie and Esme cleaned up the table. It was starting to get late so Belle decided to go back home, leaving Rosalie and Esme washing the dishes in the kitchen.

"I almost forgot what it was like to have a little one in the house." Rosalie looked at Esme in curiosity. What did she mean by that? Esme could tell that Rosalie is expecting more of an explanation.

"Before Charlisle found me I used to take care of my younger sister's children. They were such wonderful children... I know how much this means to you Rosalie. More than you know, but I have no doubt that you'll make an excellent mother." If Rosalie could cry she would have shed a tear at this tender moment. She reached over and gave Esme a hug.

"And you'll be a great grandma." Rosalie replied back. Their mother/daughter moment was interrupted when they heard the door opening and the sound of tiny feet running.

"Slow down champ! Rose will kill me if you tripped and fell!" Cane the sound of Emmett. Rosalie and Esme were greeted with the sight of David completely covered in dirt and grass with a big smile on his face. Rosalie was bewildered while Esme just laughed.

"What happened?" Rosalie whispered to herself, but was loud enough for Esme to hear.

"Welcome to the world of parenting boys dear." Esme said giving her shoulder a encouraging pat as she walked away. Rosalie looked back at the little boy who was grinning at her.

"Me and Emmett played wrestling!" He said excitedly. This was the first time Rose heard him speak with so much life...like a child. She couldn't help but smile back at him.

"Yeah, lil tyke is stronger than I thought." Emmett commented with a smirk.

"I see that sweetheart. And it looks like you'll need another bath today." David looked At himself and seeing how dirty he was he gave her a sheepish smile. Rosalie shook her head and walked up to David and effortlessly picked him up.

"Well, let's get you settled in for the night." She said as Emmett came into view.

"And you," she said pointing at Emmett. "Need to shower too, you smell like a mutt." David giggled at that while Emmett only grinned at her jab.

"Wolf, Wolf." He responded making David laugh more and causing Rosalie to roll her eyes.

Rosalie took David up to the bathroom where she drew him a bath. David let her wash him like he did when Emmett did. He knows he could do it himself, but it was a nice feeling having someone else care for him like this.

After Rosalie was sure that David was squeaky clean she took him out and dried him with a big fluffy towel before wrapping him up in it and carried him downstairs back to the living room where the bag of cloths still lay.

She settled him on the floor as she dug through the bags looking for pjs and found the perfect pair. It was a purple footie onesie with bats all over it. Rosalie rolled her eyes knowing that the irony of David wearing a onesie with bats would be lost to the child.

She weaved David's small arms and legs into the onesie and zipped up the back. It was a perfect fit and David looked absolutely adorable in them. When Rosalie picked him up David saw himself in the mirror and though he didn't really like looking like a baby he couldn't say that it wasn't comfortable. And if it makes Rosalie happy then he can deal with it.

Going back down stairs to the living room Esme cooed at the sight of David. Emmett came down a little afterwards and the two of them started playing again while Rosalie and Esme watched fondly. David really likes playing with Emmett! He's a lot of fun. He hopes that they'll let him stay here for a little while longer. Soon David began to grow tired again as he gave a big yawn.

"Uh oh, looks likes little man is getting sleepy." Emmett said as he picked up David who immediately wrapped his arms around the man's neck and laid his head on his shoulder. Emmett held the boy a little more close while softly rubbing his back to lul David to sleep.

David never felt so safe and comfortable in his life that he didn't hesitate to fall asleep in Emmett's arms. Emmett smiled as the boy slept peacefully. He walked up to his and Rosalie's room with both women right behind him and gently placed David on the bed and tucked him in.

"Sleep tight kiddo." He whispered ruffling David's hair a bit.

"Goodnight sweetheart." Rosalie followed with kissing his cheek. The adults left the room and let the precious child sleep. Emmett had pull Rosalie away cause he knew she would have stayed in there all night till David woke up.

"What a day." Emmett commented when they were back in the living room.

"Yes." Esme agreed. "To think there was one who doesn't drink and on top of that an immortal child." Rosalie was in deep thought. Though yes she thank God that David stumbled to them but the fact remains that he is an immortal child and once others knows of his existence it'll be a fight to keep him safe.

However, Alice and the rest are risking their lives to make sure that doesn't happen. She just prays that they succeed cause she can't lose him. She can't! She'll take her own life before she lose him! In that moment the phone rang. All of them knew who it was as there was no one else who knew their number.

Rosalie was too scared to answer, what if it's what she fears? Emmett saw the look of fear in his mates eyes, he can sympathize cause he too is worried over the little ankle bitter that pulled the strings of his heart too. But he believes in Alice and the rest. With that he picked up the phone.

"Hello?" There was a pause as he waited for an answer.

"Hey Emm." It was Alice. He sighed waiting for the news, good or bad, or both.

"So? What happened?" He asked.

"It's all ok. Aro wants to meet him, so get here tomorrow as soon as you can. It's going to be fine." With that Emmett let lose a breath he didn't know he was holding.

"Ok, we'll be there."

"Good. See ya soon." With that Alice hung up. Rosalie and Esme looked at him anxiously.

"What happened?" Esme asked.

"Alice said everything is ok." At that both ladies have a sigh of relief. "But, Aro wants to see him."
