Layer 2: Schmerzen

Lana looked around nervously. The air had changed a lot since they started digging.

"Are you alright, Lana?"

Lana shook her head. "I don't think so. Digging down to hell scares me."

"We will be safe," Lucy assured her younger sister. "But Charles isn't. We are the only ones who can rescue him now."

"Yes, Lucy," said Lana, continuing to dig down. "I hope nobody else will suffer because of this."

Luan Loud was working on her props she would use during her next show. She had prepared for a knife-throwing act with one of her assistants in which she would play as a drunk knife thrower. Of course, the knives would be fake, but the viewers wouldn't know that.

For fun and practice, she started to juggle them.

"Will these knives be a knife present? Or are they pointing to a sharp turn in the road?"

Luan's laugh at her own joke abruptly turned into a scream. One of the knives was now buried into her hand. The blood petered out of the wound the knife had created and it was not just buried in her hand, it had gone through it, the tip of it poking out of the back.

"Oh… not a very knife situation. No, wait. It actually is."

She tried to keep calm and started to pull the knife out of her hand, confused as to how this fake knife was able to do this. Then the pain started. It slowly came as she started to pull and became more intense the longer it took her to take it off. Luan started to pull faster, hoping the pain would subside slowly, but it grew worse instead. She pulled the knife out, but at this point, the pain became unbearable.

"Can it be so bad? Or is my medical knowledge not so sharp?"

Joking made the pain somehow even more painful. Either that or it would have become more painful regardless. Luan got her first aid kit to treat her wound. As she opened, the scissors inside were shot out as if catapulted from a spring and landed in Luan's eye.

"Eye didn't see that coming. Also AAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Luan did her darndest to not totally freak out now. She needed her family to help her, to call the medics.

"Guys, GUYS! I need you, please come over here and-"

Luan's Bunny Gary jumped from her magic hat and bit into her right shoulder. For a moment, Luan didn't notice the sudden attack. Then she noticed it. Shortly followed by the pain coming from it. Afterwards, she started to scream.

"HOW… GARY, STOP!"

Luan tried to pull Gary's Teeth off her shoulder. But it was no use, and the pain became even worse.

"No, Gary… Why are you doing this?"

The pain got worse and worse with no end in sight.

"WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!"

Luan now shouted for help as loud as she could. "HELP! HEEEEEEEEELP!"

"Lucy, I think I heard somebody shout for help, and it sounded like they were in pain."

Lana climbed out of the hole and looked up the house, up to the window of Luna & Luan's room.

"Ignore it. That is normal."

Lana shook her head. "No, it sounded bad, way louder and intense than usual."

Lucy softly took Lana's hand. "The forces of Hell may want to play tricks on us to divert us from our mission. Ignore it, or Charles will stay lost in hell."

"But…" Lana looked back. "Are we even close? Everything still looks like our home."

"Hell can be anything," explained Lucy. "But it is not a place deep underground. It is a different plane than this one, yet it can look like our home, our world."

"Could we encounter the Devil?" asked Lana in a fearful tone. "Can this place keep us imprisoned here?"

Lucy shook her head. "No, only if we are evil. We could still die though. At the hands of demons, the terror of the damned or torn apart by Lucifer himself."

Lana was shocked now. "But, but, but…"

"Our preparations should protect us from such a fate," Lucy assured Lana. "We will get in and out of Hell. Now, keep on digging."

"Yes, Lucy," responded Lana and continued to dig with Lucy while wondering if the screams were real or not.
