Chapter 3 Evony
It's quiet as usual, except for the problems they are having on some mysterious deaths occurring for the Dark and Light fae.
Evony is talking animatedly to her computer, explaining as how things are at the Dark fae compound to the person she has kept in touch.
"If you were here Doctor, I wouldn't be having this kind of a problem." Being sarcastic, she can tell Lauren is tired, with the dark circles under her eyes. "Aren't you getting enough sleep?"
"I just got in Evony." Exhaling loudly, "I thought it would be good just to call you. Letting you know that I'm okay." Trying very hard not to run her hands through hair and really getting irritated. "Do you want me to figure out somehow on those deaths?"
Since she has set foot back in Afghanistan, her nightmares have slowly been coming back. But she told herself this is different than the last time.
She had done some surgeries but not as much until last night. Then she had been ordered to go with some of the soldiers as soon as she was finish; they had gotten back three hours ago. She decided after her conversation with Evony she'll take a shower, eat some breakfast and sleep. It may not be in that order.
Evony waving her right hand at the thought. "No, I do have other doctors working on it." Evony didn't like how Lauren look, she has only been gone for two months.
Leaning towards the computer, "Have you been eating well? Have you been overworking, lately?" She notices one of her henchmen standing near the door, she directed him to leave with the wave of her hand.
"I can't tell you much Evony, just been busy." She sounded faint even though she can hear Lauren clearly.
Evony saw a glimmer just a faint, the light shone then diminish. She's… oh my… Dr. Lewis has found someone. Tsk. Tsk.
Lauren is staring back at her, trying to smile, parts of her hair is in a bun some strewn on her shoulders.
Evony wanted their conversation to last, but as seeing how tired Lauren is, she'll let her go. She's happy they were able to keep in touch, she doesn't want Lauren to know she cares for her.
Bo just arrived outside the Morrigan's office, her two fae men guarding her door. Kenzi is right behind her who is ready to drop down in one of the sofas in front of the reception area.
One of the guards just came out of her office, Bo caught a snippet of a conversation when she heard "I can't tell you much Evony." That's when the door closed cutting off the rest.
She headed straight for the door, the guy saw her immediately and block her. Bo thought, no way is someone going to stop her from getting her answers. She pulsed the guy; wrench the door open, striding purposely towards Evony. Bo notice at the same time Evony move her mouse to end the call with a click. She was too late to reach her desk to speak to Lauren if it was her.
Bo stood there in the middle of her office fuming at Evony who is smirking only at Bo, "What can I do for you Succubus and your side kick." Seeing as how Kenzi immediately followed Bo inside the office.
"I learnt that Lauren's missing!" Bo held her ground trying to be menacing but didn't have the effect on Evony.
"Is that why you came here Bo?" Not wanting to give her any clues on Lauren.
"Are you having people looking for her or was that Lauren I heard?" Bo is getting the feeling its futile questioning Evony.
"Why would I answer to you?"
Standing up, opening her drawer and brought out an envelope. Quietly assessing if she's going to tell Bo where Lauren is. Nah, she thought to herself. Bo needs to figure out her feelings, emotions or whatever.
Evony evilly slinks towards the unsuspecting Succubus with her red, dress swishes as she moves. Bo eyed her warily, if you can call it that way. Kenzi can see Evony is very happy like she has a secret that nobody knows.
Kenzi suspiciously eyed her, "Evony, did you kill Lauren and hid her body?"
Evony raises her right eyebrow at her, "You wish."
"Is she here or is she missing!" Bo demanded by laying her hand on Evony's arm.
"Careful Bo." Evony's eyes narrowing at her, "We don't want to lose that precious hand of yours." Lightly touching her arm, Bo retracts her hand.
Evony move towards her office door, opening it. Deep inside Evony gleefully love seeing the succubus in turmoil.
"Now get out!"
"I'm going to look for her Evony. Before your goons find her and this time, she will be free from you." Bo threateningly told her before she walks out the door.
"Then find her Bo." Laughing when Bo walks past her out the door into the reception area.
Kenzi followed behind Bo, but Evony stopped her.
"Here. This is for you." Handing Kenzi the envelope, Kenzi was about to reject it. "Not from me, hon." Kenzi stood there not understanding until she saw the handwriting on the envelope. She put it in her purse immediately before joining Bo at the reception area.
"Kenzi!" she heard her name being called.
"Better go join your friend." Still giggling as soon as she walks out.
When Kenzi join Bo, they can still hear Evony laughing so hard behind her office door. Both of them thought she has really lost her mind.
There is a worried look on Bo's face when she thought Lauren is missing. Kenzi deeply wondered why Lauren left without saying something to her.
"You know Bo. Maybe Lauren went to a conference… like a... for medicine. That's why she's been gone for two months." Bo's face softened at the thought maybe that's what Lauren did.
"Let's go, BoBo." Taking her friend's arm, walking out of Evony's office for the night.
Kenzi hoped Dyson has decided not to come to the crack shack tonight, she don't think Bo will welcome his presence as they walked out of the building towards Bo's car.
After a few minutes of thinking. "Bo." She quietly said her name while Bo concentrated on driving.
"What's up Kenzi." Still lost in her own thoughts about where can Lauren be?
"Evony gave me an envelope. I think it's from Lauren." In a low tone, not looking at Bo but straight at the road.
Kenzi thought Lauren didn't care about her, she didn't give herself a chance to get to know Lauren when they first met. But after spending some time together as friends that one month she finally understood Lauren and like her a lot. It was fun hanging out with Lauren, you get to know geeky stuff. That brought a smile to her face.
Bo stopped the car in time at their home, shutting down the engine. Turning to Kenzi, trying to reign in her selfishness. If Lauren wanted to leave something for Kenzi she'll respect that.
"Kenzi, it's okay if she left something for you." Staring down at the keys on her hand that's lying on top of her lap, thinking she deserve this silent treatment. She did ignore Lauren while she dated Dyson.
Kenzi brought out the envelope from her purse and it's a bit thick, she ripped it open. Both of their eyes open wide at the wads of money spread out in Kenzi's hands, with a note.
'Hey Kenzi, I thought this would help you for a little while. Take care of yourself. Love Lauren'.
They both look at the back of the note if there's anything more written but nothing.
Kenzi is touch that Lauren had thought about her. She's trying not to show that she cared but Bo saw how Kenzi is trying to wipe the little moisture about to form around her eyes.
They got out of the car, lost in their thoughts until they walk in to their humble abode. Kenzi decided to save some of her money, and stock up on grocery instead of Bo doing all the shopping. She noticed Bo had gone quiet the moment she saw Lauren had left a note only for her.
Stopping at the sofa, "I feel like Lauren is doing this just to get my attention. Like she's playing hide and seek." Bo said it to be selfish.
"Is that what you think?" Her voice crack, Kenzi knew Lauren wouldn't do that. She'll lock up in her lab, only coming out for when she's tired, but not leave and that she won't come back.
"Yeah, just because I wasn't spending time with her, she'll do this just for my attention." Trying to defend her feelings, only Lauren would leave a note for Kenzi but not for her.
"Bo." Bo ignored her while she slowly walks up the stairs trying not to show how hurt she is that she didn't received a note. She called out trying to justify Lauren's action. "She kept herself busy because you spent more time with Dyson."
Bo heard her, but didn't want to acknowledge that truth.
Kenzi stared up the empty stairs, they need to know why Lauren left but she is still missing with no word where she went. She stood there at the bottom of the stairs; she sobered the moment Evony had given her the envelop earlier.
There's a knock at the door, she's wondering who could that be until she realizes it's Dyson!
She took her protection out near the door with her, in case it's not him. She quietly, and then Boom! "Kenzi! Open up the door. I can smell you. You don't need to sneak quietly to the door." Dyson's voice increases on the other side.
"Dyson, I don't think this is a good idea for you to be here." Talking to him at her end, not wanting to let him in from the way Bo is acting.
Bo came down the stairs, she heard Dyson's shout when she was about to go to the bathroom. Standing behind Kenzi, while she tells Dyson is not a good time.
"Dyson, Kenzi is right." Talking loudly behind Kenzi which startled her. "I'll see you tomorrow night."
"Is this because of Lauren again." His growl resonated through the wooden door. "I'm pretty sure Evony will have her goons find her and bring her back."
"I mean it Dyson! I'll see you tomorrow." They both hope he gets the message.
Dyson pounce on the door showing his frustration about Lauren. "Fine. I'll see you tomorrow."
On the other side of the World
After her talk with Evony, Lauren had breakfast, showered and trying to get some sleep. It was a busy 24 hours for her. At her tent, lying on her cot she is recollecting again how she came back to the desert.
After the military personnel came for her, they drove her to Montreal for the briefing with General Mast. He had told her he's not sure when she'll be back in Toronto-civilian life; because of her expertise in medicine, she is needed in Afghanistan. That she had been promoted to Major. She was surprised at her promotion and she will be in charge of the surgical team as soon as she arrives at Kabul, Afghanistan.
She is wondering if Bo misses her, she shook her head. This isn't the best time to think about people back in Canada who don't really care about you. Maybe…maybe Kenzi. There is Evony, she saw the worried look in her eyes before she left, and her constant questioning if she ate and slept well when they skype.
There are nights that all she thinks about is running her fingers through Bo's hair. They being in bed curling next to each other feeling the warmth of their bodies – their sex marathon or their lovemaking if it was ever that. She can't help responding to Bo's touch in her dreams that sometimes feels so real. SIGH! It's only memories now. She can't cry anymore over her or dream about her, it has been months - she is ready to move on.
The moment she had come in contact with the Head Nurse, that first time was getting to know her team. They caught each other's attention. When they shook hands there was a spark between them after the introduction, they both didn't release their hands. Lauren noticed is her blue eyes she was mesmerized by it – it is almost the shade of Bo's succubus. That got Lauren to sober and released their hands.
Two months, all they did was eye each other. Her name, she smiled. Captain Amber Keller had gotten into her head, try as she might she can't help thinking about her. But Bo still lingers on her mind- sadly.
One day, the Head Nurse asked her to have lunch together and finding out they both love the outdoors. Amber had mention she goes running every other day. She asked Lauren if she might join her and another fellow officer. This got Lauren to smile at the invitation, she can feel herself turning red, she saw the smile radiating off Amber because she noticed Lauren's blush. She nodded in agreement they will meet.
