Resident Evil: Remnant

Somewhere off the coast of Anima, near the City of Argus…

BSAA assault force Sierra-November en-route to suspected bio-terrorism site…

Commanding officers: Captain Chris Redfield; Second-in-command: Jill Valentine; Onsite Consultant: Rebecca Chambers; Delta Team

Allied Task Force: Atlesian 1st Army, Second Company, two squads; Atlesian Special Forces: One AceOps

1:00AM.

Night had fallen as the trio of Manta class transports flew low over the waters of the Northern Alsius Sea below them. They flew dark, silent.

Inside the three Atlesian transports were a mixed group of BSAA and Atlesian soldiers checking their kits and weapons once more before they arrived. Their target? A refinery off the coast of Anima.

An anonymous source had informed the Argus Council, the informal name for the ruling elite of the coastal city, of a potential threat to the city. One serious enough for the Atlesian Military to check out. They sent in a small recon team.

It vanished.

That alone wasn't enough to then take the matter seriously. There were plenty of reasons for the team to disappear. The Northern Coast was considered to be quite dangerous even by Anima standards after all.

Still, they attempted to recover their trail, and that lead to this. A combined assault by both the Atlesian Military and the BSAA after it was made apparent that this wasn't some random bandit tribe and something far worse.

"Five Mikes out, Captain," the pilot of the lead Manta announced to over the headset.

A large man with brown hair and stubble placed a finger to the headset he wore to respond as he said while slapping a magazine into the powerful pistol he carried. A classic Nine-Oh-Nine that he had recently found to his liking. "Roger that. Five Mikes."

Then he turned to the person sitting next to him, a surprisingly younger looking woman who was going over her own weapons, an assault rifle and sidearm. She glance at him, her blue eyes curious, he nodded to her before holding up a hand with all five fingers spread out. She nodded back before turning to the rest of the team in the hold and barked, "Five Mikes out! So, stow the gab and Ready Up!"

The mixed squad of professionals nodded at that and shifted to psyching themselves up in their own ways. As they did the Captain stood up, grasping the straps overhead as he boomed out over the engines, "Alright. Just a final once over. We got word from the Atlesians that there was a potential Viral Fallout a week ago, after they lost a recon team. Once our team on the ground determined what was going on, they sent for us."

He whipped out a Scroll and showed the photos of two men. Both bore mustaches with one of the men being older, balding with grey hair while the other was was younger with black hair and cold eyes.

"These are our potential targets. They are Doctors Pietro Polendina and Arthur Watts. Ex-Atlesian scientists and most likely the ones responsible for this recent fallout. We're clearly dealing with a new type of virus here, so watch out for anything strange.

"When we go in there, let the Huntsman take the lead. He knows what they look like and be going after the two of them as part of his mission. We got the role of clearing out the general area of any BOW as well as collecting any data on whatever this is."

"Don't see how a guy with a fishing rod is going to be able to do anything here, but alright?" One of the men said with a shrug at that.

The Captain grimaced at that, but chose to ignore it and instead continued with the last minute debrief, "Now, where we're going is apparently a still active Dust Refinery so watch your shots. Understood?"

"Sir, yes sir!" A chorus of voices sounded out.

The Captain nodded at that before speaking into his headset briefly. Then he nodded at the response before opening the side door and looked out, awaiting the order to disembark. he frowned as he caught sight of the refinery at last. It was dark, running no lights.

That shouldn't have been the case, if it was still being used.

He ordered the Mantas to circle the towering structure while he and Jill trying to find any other disparities. There were none.

Finally, he gave the approval for the Mantas to move in. the three aerial vessels moved to the designated landing zones they had previously marked on a schematic for the factory. His team, in particular, were fast-roping onto a landing pad on the upper levels.

Once down he ordered the shuttles to fallback to the rally point, Zulu, to await further orders. The pilot gave him an affirmative before veering off from the platform.

Chris looked around with a grimace. It was too quiet, too dark. It felt like a trap. But, if so, why hadn't it been sprung the minute they appeared over the factory? He shook his head. He just didn't know.

He turned to the men and women with him and said over the headset, "Weapons hot, people. This is it. Something doesn't feel right to me so keep your eyes on a swivel and don't touch anything unless Dr Chambers here gives the go ahead. Got it?"

There was a chorus of clicks over the headset accompanied by nods all around. He nodded back in approval before taking the lead, Jill and Rebecca behind.

They made their way over to the only door and paused there for a moment, lining up to breach and clear. He looked back at Jill and she nodded. He nodded back and opened the door.

They entered.

Two and a half hours later…

The door slammed open as Jill kicked out the lock with a grunt. Then she turned and shot over her partner's shoulder as he lumbered by, Rebecca over his shoulder.

She glanced at the two as they brushed by before facing the direction they all came from, shooting. She hollered, "Move it! Go, go, go!"

Two of the remaining members of the assault force pushed past her then. The third made it through the door only to scream in pain as his body was riddled with bullets. He then fell over in her arms. She lowered him to the ground before taking the grenade on his vest and tossed it into the stairwell.

She closed the door just as the explosion went off inside. She went back to the wounded man, checking his pulse. Finding him dead, she grunted in distress, placing a hand on him in sympathy before starting off after her partner and friends.

She caught up just as another BSAA soldier fell to gunfire. She turned and aimed at the at the man, a dark-skinned Faunus with dog ears, up on the railing above.

She shot at him, forcing him to duck down behind a bit of metal siding before he could continue to overwatch on the remainder of her team. She turned and started off again as the two soldiers with Chris waved at her, a Manta approaching off the coast in the distance.

That's when an explosion went off in the distance. The whole refinery shook at that as fires burned all over the place.

Jill slammed down to the ground at the rumbling before getting back to her feet shakily. She looked as one of the soldiers shouted, "Come on! They're almost here."

She grunted again as she sprinted to where they were. As she did one of the tall, spindly things tore its way through the floor plating near her with inhuman strength. As the humanoid creature saw her it let loose a hellish shriek.

Jill let out another distressed cry, a faint one, as a wave of fatigue then struck her. She stumble forwards another two steps before falling to her knees heavily, her arms too heavy to left her gun. She tried to, to shoot at it, as she cried out in fear and horror, unable to move.

"Jill! No!" Chris roared as he saw that. He made to make his way towards her only to be held back by the two soldiers with him as the Manta slowed to hover above them.

Another explosion went off as the strange creature, the BOW, made its way towards where she knelt on legs that were too thin to be able to hold it up. It's overlong arms ending in hands with long, grasping claws reached out towards her as it hissed through the remains of its face, a literal misshapen skull, as its sunken, glowing, red eyes focused on her.

As it reached her, arms outstretched, a fishing line and hook suddenly encircled its neck and tightened as the Atlesian, Clover Ebi, landed on the deck and loosed the fishing rod at the creature after jumping down from an inferno above. Then he tugged. The wire sliced through its neck with nary a hint of resistance.

The creature's corpse collapsed into a twitching heap before vanishing in a deteriorating cloud of ash and smoke as Clover turned and and dashed to Jill's side. He reached down and picked her up in a princess carry, ignoring the bullets striking at his back as if they were nothing, though he did hiss at the sting of each round that hit him.

Then he turned and dashed towards the rest as the Manta gun crew opened fire on the lone Faunus. The two soldiers went up first followed by Jill as she recovered and struggled up the rappel line. Then it was Chris's turn, Rebecca's unconscious and injured form tied to him back, as he clambered up the line as swiftly as he could.

The gun crew had to change targets as an explosion went off revealing three more of the strange, lanky BOWs approaching the aircraft from out of nowhere.

Clover looked at at them, blanched at their appearance, before launching himself up into the open troops bay. Chris leaned out with a RPG on his shoulder then, aiming for the creatures below, only to flinch as the Faunus popped back up and fired at the aircraft as its pilot made to turn around and flee.

Chris ignored the lone aggressor on their level and made to fire at the creatures below again. As he did, another explosion rocked the vessel and made him miss as he pulled the trigger. The rocket flew out and struck a pair of oversized containers behind the Dog Faunus just as he stood up once more to fire after having reloaded. The resulting explosion was a fireball that consumed both the Faunus and the upper railing of the deck area.

The Manta took off then as more explosions went off all over the refinery before the whole structure finally blew apart entirely.

A/N: As I said in the synopsis for the story, this will have slow updates, much like The Beast, but they should be coming in faster and hopefully be longer that this chapter was.

Alright, Essiter out. Bye!
