Bender and Allison's Apartment. That night.

(Luke's POV)

As I saw Allison sobbing on the floor, my first instinct was to rush over and give her a hug that it looked like she clearly needed. Whatever had taken place between her and Bender had clearly been awful.

"Allison, what happened?" I asked as she turned to look at me with tears rolling down her cheeks.

"John happened…I finally had enough of his shit." Allison stuttered as she tried to dry her eyes. "I told him that he was just like his old man and then I told him to get out, so he did." I groaned as I helped Allison to her feet.

"Look Allison, Bender is a jackass; he always has been." I said as I made her look me in the eye. "You don't have anything to apologize for. You are a great friend and you were a wonderful girlfriend to Bender and if he can't appreciate you, then he doesn't deserve you."

"He makes me feel like I don't deserve him..." Allison muttered as I put my arm around her in a desperate attempt to comfort my dear friend.

"That is bullshit Allison, you were so fucking good to him. If he would rather have meaningless sex with skanks...that's his prerogative." I insisted as I grew quite pissed at John Bender for making such a decent person feel like a piece of shit for insisting that she be treated with the basic respect she was owed. Allison offered me a small nod as I helped her back to the table. I saw that she had been making spaghetti for Bender and herself. I took a whiff of it and it smelled pretty damn good.

"Do you want to eat with me?" Allison asked with a small smirk.

"I might as well, it would be a damn shame to let this tasty spaghetti go to waste just because Bender is being a dickhead." I answered as I set out a couple of plates for us.

"You don't have to be my waiter Luke." She said, trying to act exasperated, even though I could tell that she was pleased that she didn't have to act like the kitchen wench for once.

"I know, but I kind of feel like shit for taking up space into your apartment." I replied. I also had a sneaking suspicion that my name had come up during the argument that led to the breakup of the criminal and the basket case. Neither Allison nor Bender had said anything about me being a factor in the death of their relationship, but it was just a feeling that I couldn't quite shake. I scooped out good portions of Spaghetti for myself and my host before going into the fridge, getting out a carton of milk and pouring a glass for each of us.

"This is the first time I've had dinner with another person; usually by the time John comes home and has his supper, i'm getting ready for bed." Allison said as she slowly took bites of her food.

"Bender's always been an asshole, maybe this is the wake up call he needs to finally grow up?" I offered as I was trying to be optimistic, but not believing a single word that was coming out of my mouth.

"I doubt it..." Allison said bitterly as she continued to pick at her food. "So...how did your meeting with the princess end up?" I sighed as i figured that the subject of what was for all intents and purposes, my final meeting with Claire Standish would eventually come up.

"To be honest...I told her things that she needed to hear." I insisted as I ate my Spaghetti. "I explained to her that she never really stopped being a princess, I think that she just wanted to trick herself into thinking that she was selfish and spoiled, but at the end of the day...which it is, Claire was not that good of an actor."

"She's too absorbed in creature comforts to ever be anything other than a rich girl." Allison concluded sadly as she mourned the loss of the only real gal pal that she'd ever had.

"I told her to her face that she was a shitty girlfriend and a shitty best friend and she knew that I was right." I continued as I vented my frustrations with my ex girlfriend. "Hell, she didn't even know that you and Bender were having problems; she thought that you 2 were OK."

"I'm not surprised, she never really asked how John and I were doing." Allison shrugged as she expected Claire's ignorance. After dinner was done, I helped Allison clean up before going to bed.

"Thanks for being here Luke." She said quietly as she hugged me tightly.

"Of course Allison, you're important to me." I replied with sincerity.
