Part 2, The one I won't let get away

"You're gonna try to get him back aren't you"

It wasn't even a question as evelynn already knew that if her long time friend has set her mind on something, it's hard to dissuade her away from it.

"Look I know that we still have to organize everything for next destination for our tour, but it's still a month before we actually have to be finished with the organization, I have time" Ahri replied, while putting on a cream colored long sleeve turtleneck to go along with her light blue colored jeans.

"It's fine I already have everything handled" Evelynn replied, before getting glomped on by a happy and excited Ahri, throwing the pair into the bed.

"THANK YOU!"

Evelynn knew how much this meant to the popstar, when Ahri's former lover left, it felt like a piece was taken away from the girl as well, that's why right now the diva is doing her best to give her best friend a chance to be happy once more and be complete.

Wearing a mask and a cap to hide her features, as well as the coat left to her by Naruto, Ahri began to try and find her former lover by going to the same park and thinking hard on where would Naruto be coming from if he was on the way home last night.

'If only I had asked for his number last night Ugh…'

WITH EVELYNN

With Ahri distracted in doing a bit of "sightseeing" the diva of the group decided to do some digging, looking at their list of sponsors there are a lot of anonymous ones but this is somewhat normal as some people don't want to be associated with a group especially even if said group was as popular as K/DA.

However this doesn't mean that they don't know what country these anonymous sponsors come from, one in particular is from Japan, and this alone would not have alerted much attention but the fact this is their biggest sponsor, even bigger than the public companies that sponsor their group it sent alarm bells on Evelynn.

Deciding to follow her instincts this time Evelynn decided to contact a few people to help her investigate this mysterious sponsor

FAST FORWARD

It's been a few days now and their concert in Kyoto is nearing, but currently, we find the leader of the popstar group Ahri on the bed groaning in disappointment.

'Ughh… I'm so stupid in thinking I could find him just like that' the popstar thought before rolling in the bed a few more times and then screaming on the pillow in frustration.

But suddenly her phone rang, checking out who was calling her, Ahri saw that it was Evelynn, quickly composing herself, the popstar sat straight on her bed and answered the phone.

"Hey hon~" a sultry voice sounded on the phone call making Ahri chuckle at her best friend's antics
"Hey Eve, What's up?"

"Nothing much but I want you to come with me tomorrow for a meeting with a sponsor" the diva replied

That got Ahri curious as most of the time Evelynn just meets with their sponsors alone and handles everything by herself

"Why? I thought you liked handling this stuff alone?"

"Mhmm… yes but this time the sponsor wanted to meet you the leader of the group as well" Evelynn said

Thinking nothing wrong with those conditions as most of the time it was the leader of the group or the manager that met with sponsors this was kind of normal, quickly agreeing with the conditions set the pair talked for a few more minutes before ending the call as Evelynn has other matters to attend to

After putting down her phone Ahri sighed before pouting in annoyance.

'This puts a pause on my search for Naru… but I guess it can't be helped'

Yesterday with Evelynn

Finding out who the sponsor was shocked Evelynn, not only was this their longest-lasting sponsor but the sponsorship also came from FOX Corp. which was currently the leading company in terms of technology and research but also a company owned by one Naruto Namikaze, her best friend's Ex.

Currently, the Diva is on her way to meet with said CEO, with a bit of apprehension not only with meeting the owner of their largest sponsor but also meeting with an old acquaintance.

Arriving in front of a 10-story building, Evelynn was a bit surprised at how small the main headquarters of the company is, expecting a large 20-30-story building, but quickly remembering how humble Naruto was, the Diva should have expected this

The building is around 10 stories, with balconies on each floor leading to a garden where employees could relax, and in the backyard of the building itself, there's a massive forest-like garden.

Entering the building she went to the receptionist who asked if she had any appointment, quickly telling the receptionist that she had an appointment with their CEO, she was led to the backyard garden after a few seconds of walking in the middle of the garden it where she saw, blonde spiky hair, wearing a casual t-shirt with a simple pair of jeans sitting on the grass with a laptop beside him, and surrounded by foxes.

Taking in a deep breath Evelynn started walking towards him, stopping just a few steps away, she counted around 4 foxes, 2 big ones and 2 small ones, quickly guessing that this must be a family she quickly put on a professional attitude

"Mr. Namikaze, My name is Evelynn, from the popstar group K/DA, I'm here to about the sponsorship"

Out of all the replies Evelynn had thought, the blonde chuckling and laughing was not one of them.

"While we weren't really close friends, I think we still know each other to the point that calling me by my last name is not needed Eve" Naruto replied smiling

This made the Diva chuckle as well before replying

"That may be true however it doesn't hurt to be polite"

This only made Naruto laugh once more before gesturing to the Diva to sit, to which she accepted and sat near him.

"So what do you want to talk about the sponsorship… or is that what you wanted to talk about?"

Naruto asked, giving Evelynn a pointed look, already knowing if the sponsorship was what she wanted to talk about they'd be doing that on the phone or in a formal office.

Evelynn decided right here and there to be blunt about her intentions and replied

"It's about Ahri"

Raising his eyebrow Naruto quickly said

"I've already forgiven her if that's what you wanted to talk about, but I feel as if that's not it"

Quickly nodding her head Evelynn continued

"Give her another chance"

"Why?" the blonde replied looking at her with curiosity, which surprised the Diva as she thought he'd be more or less against the idea.

Sighing a bit Evelynn continued
"When you left... Ahri became a shell of herself... she tries to not show it but I've been her oldest friend and supporter, I see it every time she tries to hide her pain... sometimes I see her looking at old pictures of you and her together"

Evelynn gave the blond a hard look and then continued

"So, why do you ask? it's because she fully regrets her actions and wishes she could go back in time to redo everything, now will you please give her a chance to make everything right"

This made Naruto close his eyes, thinking over everything he gave a deep sigh before looking at Evelynn in the eye and replying

"It really won't be as easy as you think… there's going to be a lot of stuff we need to work out before we even go as far as entering another relationship between us"

Evelynn was about to say something before she was interrupted by the blonde
"BUT… I'm not against trying, I already know she regrets it… but I am scared of it happening again"

Letting out another sigh Naruto continued

"Very well, I'll give her the chance she wants… let's hope it ends well this time"

This made the Diva smile and tell that she was going to set up a meeting for the two to meet once again.

The pair decided to catch up a few more before Evelynn had to go, leaving Naruto alone in the garden deep in thought and hoping everything goes well before standing up, his last thoughts about a certain popstar that still occupies his heart.

As Ahri stood in front of the glass entrance to the meeting room, her heart raced, and she took a deep breath. She was expecting just another sponsor, nothing out of the ordinary, but Evelynn's mysterious vibe over the past few days made her anxious. Evelynn had been unusually tight-lipped about the details, which wasn't typical of her when it came to business.

Pushing the door open, Ahri entered the lavish room. Her gaze swept across the sleek furniture, but it was the figure standing near the window that made her freeze in place. Blonde, spiky hair caught in the afternoon light, a casual stance, and a familiar face that stirred every buried memory she had tried so hard to suppress.

Naruto.

His back was turned to her, but the second she stepped into the room, he straightened and turned around, meeting her wide-eyed stare with a soft smile. Time seemed to stop for Ahri as her mind scrambled to process this unexpected reunion. She swallowed hard, her heart pounding against her ribs.

"Naruto..." Her voice came out in a whisper.

"Hey, Ahri," Naruto greeted casually, as if they were old friends meeting again, though the tension in the air was undeniable.

Ahri's emotions were a mix of shock, excitement, guilt, and nervousness all bundled together. The man who had once been the center of her world, whom she had hurt and lost, was now standing a few feet away. Her thoughts were running wild, but she was doing her best to keep it together.

Evelynn, who had been standing quietly by the door, finally spoke up, cutting through the thick atmosphere. "I'll give you two some privacy. You probably have a lot to talk about." With a knowing look, Evelynn stepped out of the room, leaving Ahri and Naruto alone.

The silence that followed felt heavy.

"So… you're the sponsor?" Ahri finally asked, trying to break the ice while mentally kicking herself for the awkward phrasing.

Naruto chuckled, that familiar sound sending a wave of nostalgia through her. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. It's been a while, Ahri."

She nodded slowly, feeling the weight of those words. "Yeah, it has."

Evelynn, sensing the tension, gave a small, knowing smile before breaking the silence. "I'll leave you two to discuss things. I've got a few more calls to make," she said, her tone light but her eyes lingering on Ahri with a silent message of encouragement. With a graceful exit, she left the room, shutting the door softly behind her.

Ahri stood rooted in place, trying to steady her breathing. Naruto, meanwhile, took a slow step forward, his expression calm, though his eyes revealed traces of unresolved emotion. After a brief, almost awkward pause, he gestured toward the chairs at the meeting table.

"Shall we sit?" he suggested, his voice calm but laced with a certain depth that made Ahri's stomach flutter.

Wordlessly, she nodded and moved to sit across from him. As they settled into the chairs, Ahri struggled to find her words, feeling her nerves wrap around her throat like vines. She had imagined this moment countless times, but now that it was happening, she felt wholly unprepared.

"I… I didn't expect it to be you," Ahri finally managed to say, her voice shaky but filled with genuine surprise.

Naruto leaned back, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Yeah, I figured. Evelynn was pretty sneaky about it." He paused, studying her face carefully. "How've you been?"

It was such a simple question, but the weight of it carried years of unspoken history. Ahri's eyes softened as she lowered her gaze, thinking about everything she wanted to say but wasn't sure how to.

"I've been… okay," she replied slowly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I've been keeping busy. But…" She trailed off, unable to finish her thought, not yet ready to dive into the emotional depths of what she had been feeling.

Naruto's gaze never left her, and after a moment, he nodded. "I've been the same. A lot has changed, but some things… haven't."

That last part hung in the air between them, full of unspoken meaning. Ahri knew exactly what he was referring to, and it made her chest tighten. Before she could respond, Naruto shifted in his seat, his tone becoming a little more businesslike, as if to offer her an easier way into the conversation.

"So, let's talk about the sponsorship first. I know you're here for K/DA," he said, bringing up the professional side of their meeting.

Ahri blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the shift, but she quickly gathered herself, grateful for the momentary reprieve from the emotional undercurrents. "Right," she said, straightening up in her seat. "You're one of our biggest sponsors. I didn't realize FOX Corp. was involved for so long."

Naruto nodded. "Yeah, we've been behind the scenes for a while now. But when Evelynn reached out, it seemed like the right time to make things more formal." He paused, looking at her thoughtfully. "Though, if I'm being honest, that's not really why I agreed to meet today."

Ahri looked at him, her heartbeat quickening again as his gaze softened, the professional tone giving way to something more personal.

"What do you mean?" she asked, already sensing where this might be going.

Naruto took a breath, then leaned forward, his hands clasped together on the table. "I didn't just want to talk about the sponsorship. I wanted to talk to you. About us."

The weight of his words hit her like a wave, and Ahri felt her throat tighten. She had been trying to find him, trying to understand her feelings and what she would say if they ever crossed paths again. But now that moment was here, and it was almost overwhelming.

"I know we've both changed since… everything," Naruto continued, his voice gentle but serious. "But I've been thinking a lot about what happened between us. I'm not saying it's simple, or that we can go back to the way things were. But… I do want to try."

Ahri's eyes widened, and her breath caught in her chest. "Try? What do you mean?" she asked, her heart racing with a mix of hope and fear.

Naruto's lips curved into a soft, almost tentative smile. "I'm asking you out, Ahri. On a date. A real one this time. No expectations, no pressure—just you and me. Let's see where it goes."

Ahri blinked in disbelief, her pulse thundering in her ears. She had been so prepared for rejection, for the possibility that Naruto would never want to see her again. And now… he was offering her a second chance.

Her lips parted, but for a moment, no words came out. She was still processing, still fighting back the swirl of emotions threatening to overwhelm her. Finally, after a long pause, she spoke, her voice trembling slightly but filled with sincerity.

"I'd like that," she whispered, meeting his gaze, her eyes shining with a mix of uncertainty and hope.

Naruto's smile grew warmer, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Ahri felt a flicker of peace settle in her heart. Maybe this was the start of something new, a chance to make things right—both with him and within herself.

"Well then," Naruto said, his voice light but filled with meaning, "how about tomorrow night? Dinner?"

Ahri smiled, the weight she'd been carrying for so long suddenly feeling a little lighter. "It's a date."

Tomorrow

Ahri stepped off the stage, the applause of the crowd still ringing in her ears, her heart racing from the adrenaline of the performance. But tonight, there was something else making her pulse race — the thought of seeing Naruto again. It was their first date, and the significance of it weighed heavily on her. She rushed back to her hotel room, excitement, and nerves blending into a whirlwind of emotions.

As soon as she closed the door behind her, Ahri immediately set to work preparing for the evening. She slipped out of her stage outfit, tossing it onto the bed, and reached for the simple but elegant black dress she had carefully picked out earlier. The silky fabric slid smoothly over her skin as she stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her hair and makeup, making sure every detail was perfect.

A soft knock on the door interrupted her.

"Come in," she called, her voice a little shaky as she took a calming breath.

Evelynn walked in, wearing her usual confident smirk but with a softer, more supportive expression. "Nervous, huh?" she teased lightly, crossing her arms as she leaned against the doorframe.

Ahri laughed softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Is it that obvious?"

"To me, yeah," Evelynn replied with a chuckle, walking over to sit on the edge of the bed. She tilted her head, eyeing Ahri's reflection in the mirror. "You look amazing. He won't be able to take his eyes off you."

Ahri smiled, her anxiety easing slightly at her friend's words. She turned around to face Evelynn, her expression a mix of excitement and uncertainty. "Do you think this is a good idea?"

Evelynn stood up, placing a hand on Ahri's shoulder. "I think you've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Don't overthink it. Just be yourself, and let things happen naturally. If he's agreed to go on this date, he's already halfway in."

Ahri nodded, her chest feeling a little lighter. "Thanks, Eve. I just… I want this to work."

"It will," Evelynn reassured, squeezing her shoulder gently before stepping back. "Now go. He's probably downstairs waiting."

With one last glance in the mirror, Ahri grabbed her coat, thanked Evelynn, and headed out of the room. Her heart was pounding in her chest, but this time it was more from excitement than nerves.

As Ahri descended the hotel stairs, she spotted Naruto standing in the lobby, waiting patiently. He looked casual yet refined, wearing a dark button-up shirt and neatly pressed trousers. His blond hair was a bit tousled, and his hands were tucked into his pockets. When he saw her, his face lit up with a soft smile.

"Hey," he greeted, his eyes sweeping over her with subtle admiration. "You look… stunning."

Ahri blushed, feeling her heart flutter. "Thank you," she replied, shy but pleased. "You look great too."

Naruto extended his arm, and Ahri looped hers through his. Together, they left the hotel, heading toward the fine dining restaurant that Naruto had picked for their date.

The Hyotei restaurant, a popular spot in Kyoto, was breathtaking. Its traditional Japanese architecture blended beautifully with modern elegance. The soft glow of lanterns and the serene atmosphere made it feel intimate, almost like the world outside didn't exist.

As they sat across from each other, the conversation began light, flowing easily between them. They talked about their work, shared little stories from their time apart, and even joked about their old habits. Ahri found herself relaxing more with every passing minute. Naruto's presence was grounding, and familiar, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth being near him again.

Midway through the meal, as their conversation reached a comfortable lull, Ahri looked at Naruto, her heart pounding in her chest again, this time for a different reason. She took a deep breath, her fingers fidgeting slightly with the edge of her napkin.

"Naruto," she started, her voice soft but serious, "I've been thinking… about us. About everything that's happened."

He raised an eyebrow, listening intently.

"I know we've both changed, and I know I've made mistakes," Ahri continued, her gaze dropping for a moment before meeting his eyes again. "But… would you be willing to give us another try? To see if we could… I don't know, be together again?"

Naruto was quiet for a moment, his eyes thoughtful as he considered her words. Then, he smiled softly, a gentle warmth in his expression. "Ahri, I've thought about this a lot. And the truth is, I never stopped caring about you. I'm willing to give us another shot. I want to try again — if you do."

Relief washed over Ahri, and she felt her heart soar. She smiled, a little laugh escaping her as she nodded. "I do."

After dinner, Naruto suggested they take a walk, and Ahri agreed eagerly. The night air was cool and crisp as they strolled through a local park, its pathways illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns. The sounds of the evening, the rustling leaves, and the distant chirping of crickets filled the quiet between them.

As they walked, they eventually found a bench overlooking a serene lake, the water reflecting the moonlight in shimmering ripples. They sat down, close to each other but not quite touching, letting the peaceful surroundings settle over them.

"This is nice," Ahri whispered, gazing out at the water, feeling a sense of calm she hadn't felt in a long time.

"Yeah," Naruto agreed, his voice soft, though his eyes were more focused on her than the scenery.

They fell into a comfortable silence, but the tension between them grew, the air thick with anticipation. Ahri turned her head slightly, meeting Naruto's gaze. Her heart skipped a beat, and before she could stop herself, she leaned in, her lips brushing against his softly.

Naruto responded immediately, his hand moving to gently cup the side of her face as he deepened the kiss. What started as a soft, tentative kiss quickly turned into something more, as months — even years — of unresolved feelings poured into that one moment.

Ahri melted into him, her hands gripping the front of his shirt as their kiss grew more passionate. The world around them seemed to disappear, leaving just the two of them in their little bubble. Time became meaningless as they lost themselves in each other, kissing with an intensity that spoke of everything they had been holding back.

Finally, they pulled apart, both breathless, their foreheads resting against each other as they tried to catch their breath. Ahri's heart was racing, her cheeks flushed, but she felt a sense of happiness and peace that she hadn't felt in a long time.

Naruto chuckled softly, his thumb brushing her cheek. "I missed you," he whispered.

Ahri smiled, her heart swelling with warmth. "I missed you too."

Later that night, Naruto walked Ahri back to her hotel. They stopped just outside her room, the soft hum of the hotel hall filling the space between them. He leaned down, giving her one final, lingering kiss, filled with promise.

"I'll see you soon," he whispered, his hand gently squeezing hers before he turned and walked away.

Ahri stood there for a moment, watching him disappear down the hallway, her heart still racing. She slipped into her room, closing the door behind her with a soft click. As she kicked off her shoes and collapsed onto the bed, she couldn't help but smile.

She lay there, staring up at the ceiling, her mind replaying every moment of the night. Her heart felt lighter than it had in years, and for the first time in a long while, Ahri felt like she was exactly where she was supposed to be.

Wrapped in a blanket of joyful bliss, she closed her eyes, her lips still tingling from the memory of his kiss.
