"Deku, what was with you today?" Katsuki asked, lying down on his bed. He was exhausted, and not just because of the hero training they had done today. This whole situation with Deku was getting weird.
As if being haunted by a ghost wasn't already weird enough.
Deku, per usual, said nothing, instead settling in at Katsuki's desk, his new favourite position since he started at U.A.. Not that the blonde really minded.
Opening his notes app on his phone, Katsuki began to write down the weird experiences that had happened.
Deku said Aizawa was lying. Why did Deku tell me? How did he know?
Deku walks through people all the time, but why did I feel it? Does it affect my quirk?
Can he speak by walking through me?
Why did he sound alive?
Why did he help me?
He let the device fall on his chest, blowing a raspberry in frustration. All of these would make sense if only Deku could talk to him. Or if he even would.
"Deku?" Katsuki tried, turning his head. The ghost boy simply stared at the childhood photo of them. "I like that picture."
Deku said nothing.
"Talk to me, Deku." No response.
"Deku, you damn nerd, answer me!" No response.
"Deku, I swear to God-" he heard a gasp outside his shut door, and promptly shut up. Was that…his mom? His hands shook, and he looked away from the ghost. He sat up, gripping his phone tightly in his hand. Damn it all to hell, he hadn't meant for his mom to hear. She probably thought he was grieving or some shit.
Katsuki hadn't even had a chance.
"I need your help, Deku." He tried asking next. His whispered words finally seemed to get the attention he desired, Deku's neck turning all the way around to look at him. The blonde winced, but held himself strong, making sure to meet Deku's once-green eyes. "How did you do it?"
"Ka…chan?" He rasped out, a hand coming up to grab at his broken neck.
"You walked through me and I could hear you. Do you know why?"
Deku stared at him, not saying anything for a few moments. Bakugou felt his blood start to boil. Deku didn't owe him shit, Katsuki knew this, but the damn nerd could at least answer him! He looked down, his blonde locks falling in front of his eyes. He squeezed them shut, trying to take control of his temper.
"Deku-"
"I see."
His head snapped up, his red eyes widening.
"What?"
"I see." Deku brought his hand up, his ghostly fingers phasing through his eye sockets. Katsuki felt his stomach twist. "In here."
Deku's hand phased through his dented skull, and Katsuki was struck by a thought.
"Are you trying to tell me you can read minds?!" A beat passed, then a second, and then a third. Deku nodded. What. The. Fuck. "How?!"
Deku leaned forward, creeping through the desk chair until he stood near enough to Katsuki that, if he were alive, the green haired boy would have surely felt his breath.
And then, Izuku rushed though Katsuki, and the blonde shivered. He looked around the room, but he couldn't see the teen at all.
"Deku?"
Kaachan!
His body froze, his jaw going slack. Was….was…
Yes! That's right! Kaachan is so smart.
This was absolutely insane. Why was Deku in his damn head?! How?! What sort of fuckery was this?!
Deku suddenly exited his body, leaving him shaking and far colder than he had been a few seconds before the whole ordeal. Was that the side effect of it? He rubbed his hands together, trying to warm himself up. He tried to launch a few minor explosions, but he could barely manage to think any thoughts. He only had one thing on his mind;
What. The. Fuck.
Bakugou stumbled forward, hitting his desk. He tried grabbing onto it, but his hand slipped, and he tumbled to the ground, bringing most of his desk down with him.
He stared at the ceiling, his breath quickening. What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck! How was that even possible? He could handle Deku being a ghost, but being able to…be inside people?!
"Brat?!" His mom pushed the door open, looking worried and a bit confused. When she noticed him on the floor, she immediately softened. "Katsuki, what happened, are you okay?"
His breath came out in shallow puffs, and he couldn't even turn to look at her. Something hot stung in his eyes, and he tried to wipe them, but he couldn't move his arms.
Mitsuki sat down beside her son, running her hand through his hair. Katsuki was sure he looked like a hot mess right now. It disgusted him. He was weak.
"My baby, it's okay, let it out, tell mama what's wrong."
Katsuki had never heard his mother sound so soft when speaking to him. A strangled cry left his lips.
"He's dead, he's really dead." Katsuki began to sob, his chest rattling with every breath. "He's dead,"
"Oh, Katsuki…" Mitsuki lifted Katsuki's head, placing it in her lap. She rubbed his head, his cheeks, his shoulders, anything she could to offer him some sort of comfort.
"I killed him, and he's really dead," Katsuki turned into her leg, his shoulder beginning to shake fiercely. "He always says it's my fault-"
"It's not your fault, baby." Mitsuki Immediately interrupts. She didn't know what her boy was talking about, but she wasn't going to let him keep thinking the way he was thinking. "You didn't kill Izuku."
"I did!" He heaved, trying to get up. "I did, you don't understand, I killed him!"
"You're…" Deku began.
"I know! I know it's my fault!" He screamed. Mitsuki grabbed his arms when he began to flail slightly,
"Katsuki, what is happening?" Mitsuki pleaded. She'd never, in all his life, seen him act like this. She was scared for him.
"You don't understand, you don't-"
"Then tell me, Katsuki."
"I told him to kill himself! I told him to- and he did! And now- now he's gone, and he's haunting me!"
Katsuki reared up, clutching at his heart, face red and messy with his tears. He sobbed into his hands, the sounds raw and open. Mitsuki gasped, her hands coming up to her mouth.
"And I meant it! And now he's here constantly reminding me!"
"Who?!" Mitsuki pleaded for the answer, her own voice raising.
"Deku!"
"Izuku's dead, Kat-"
"And yet he's right there!" Katsuki pointed to the corner of the room, stuffed full of hero merch. "He's always there, and he's dead, and I KILLED HIM!"
Katsuki panted, catching his breath, the house suddenly quiet. Mitsuki said nothing, glancing between the corner of the room where her son had pointed, and then back to her son.
"Katsuki…"
The blonde froze, staring at the corner of the room.
"I understand this might be-"
The teen collapsed.
"Kaachan?" He heard. He squeezed his eyes shut. He clenched his hand, and then his toes. He could also move his mouth, and managed to open and close it repeatedly before he sighed.
"Deku,"
"Kaachan, you have to wake up,"
"I am up,"
"No you're not, Kaachan." And then he laughed.
Bakugou slowly opened his eyes, trying to prove to the ghost that he was in fact awake when he gasped.
"Deku?"
"Kaachan!"
Bakugou stared at the sight in front of him. No longer was Deku the decayed, bloody mess he'd gotten used to seeing for almost a year now. Instead, the deceased boy was sitting across from him, looking almost alive. If it weren't for the grey-green tone of his skin, and the missing chunk of neck he still had, Katsuki would have assume Deku had come back to life.
"What the hell?"
"I don't know either. I was all silent and staring and floating after I had passed through you, and then… Auntie Mitsuki happened… and then you passed out! I was like, woosh, sucked right into your body, Kaachan! It was pretty weird, and I don't really know why. I finally feel semi-whole again though! I know I'm dead, but right now, I still feel dead, but usually i'm all-" Deku froze, his mouth hanging open. "Uh, sorry, Kaachan. I'm rambling."
Bakugou could have cried all over again.
"It's fine, fucking nerd. So where are we?"
"I think we're in your head, Kaachan."
Oh how Katsuki missed the name.
"Again," he commanded. "Say it again."
"What?"
"Call me that stupid nickname again."
"Kaachan?"
Bakugou launched himself across…wherever they were, and talked Deku to the ground, trapping him in some sort of hug, his eyes squeezed shut.
"I'm sorry for everything, Deku. I'm so sorry."
When Katsuki opened his eyes again, he was laying down in the hospital bed, with the decayed Deku he was used to staring down at him.
"Kaachan,"
"Deku…"
"Katsuki?"
