Hi, guys check out the newest chapter in the story of beast boy in an rpg world.
"Yeah, I do. I met someone named Luke."
"Are you sure you can trust him?"
"I think so. He seemed like a guy who's just has a hard life"
"Well, okay then." Raven looked at me more intently "have you gotten taller"
"I don't think so" I felt the same.
"Stand there for me, next to the wall your head should touch the wall" after I did what she told me she came and marked the wall about my head. "Now we will know if you been growing or not"
After a quick meal, I headed out. Taking to the sky as a bird, I felt the wind rush past me, my wings cutting through the air with ease. The speed was exhilarating, like I had boosters attached to my back, yet it felt natural, like I was gliding effortlessly on the currents. The landscape blurred beneath me as I flew, the world shrinking as I soared higher.
Within minutes, the kingdom came into view. Despite having seen it before, the sight still took my breath away. Massive stone walls encircled the city, their surfaces weathered by time but standing as tall as the titan tower. Guard roamed around and in the walls. Their eyes scanned the horizon, alert for any sign of trouble, their hands resting on their spears.
As I descended closer, I noticed a group of adventurers gathered near the gates, by the looks of it they are heading to the labyrinth.
Inside the walls, the city buzzed with activity. Locals moved through the streets. Merchants shouted out the prices of their goods, from fresh produce to finely crafted wares. Children darted between the stalls, their laughter mingling with the sounds of daily life. The smell of baking bread and roasting meat filled the air, mingling with the faint scent of horses and leather.
I couldn't help but admire the vibrancy of it all. The movies, anime even the games I'd seen back home couldn't hold a candle to the reality of being here, of seeing the sun reflect off the stone buildings, the sounds of the people, the animals and even the lack of sound of modern world, i couldn't help but admit it.
This kingdom, with all its beauty and danger, was now part of my reality. And as I soared over it, I felt a mix of excitement, fear and...purpose.
After retracing my steps, I finally found her home. Luke—or rather, Lucy, as she truly was. I promised her I wouldn't tell anyone she was a girl, and I planned to keep that promise.
Knock* *Knock* *Knock*
"Who is it?" came a voice from inside.
"It's me, the guy with the green skin."
The door flung open, and Lucy practically jumped out.
But in front of her was a guy with tan brown skin. Before she could close the door his changed to green and then back to a tan brown.
"It really is you!" she exclaimed, looking me up and down with a scrutinizing gaze. "Have you gotten taller?"
"You can tell?" I replied, a bit surprised. "Raven said the same thing, but I don't feel like I have."
"Maybe I'm just overthinking it," she dismissed with a wave of her hand. "So, what brings you to my neck of the woods… Wait, don't tell me. You came to accept my invitation. You want to join me on adventures?"
"Well, yes," I said flatly. Her face immediately lit up with the biggest smile I'd ever seen.
"Wait, really? You mean it?"
"I do." Her smile was so contagious that, before I knew it, I was matching her toothy grin with one of my own. "Let's do it." I stuck out my hand in a fist.
She looked at my hand, then at my face, and then back at my hand. "What do I do?"
"You bump it with your fist—gently," I explained, demonstrating the gesture.
"Like this?" She gently bumped her fist against mine.
"Yeah, like that."
"Why are you both standing outside?" Her grandfather's voice boomed from inside the house.
"Sorry! I forgot!" she shouted back before grabbing my hand and pulling me inside.
Her house was a bit bigger than I expected. It was a little run-down, with creaking floors and worn walls, but it was holding up well enough, giving off a rustic charm. The old man I had saved earlier came out from what I guessed was the kitchen, carrying a plate of food. It looked strange—something I'd never seen before. Maybe it was a dish from this world.
"I apologize; this might not be to your liking," the old man said, starting to apologize, but I quickly stopped him.
"No, it's nothing like that. This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this before, so I was just a little startled."
"Wait," Lucy interjected, her eyes wide with realization, "are you really from another world?"
"Yeah," I confirmed.
"So you really are the hero the king summoned?"
"I guess so," I said with a shrug.
"Please, stay for lunch," Lucy pleaded, her eyes shining with curiosity. "There's so much I want to ask you."
There was no way I could refuse her, so I agreed, "…okay."
Lunch was a mix of new flavors and endless questions, mostly from Lucy, though I managed to sneak in a few of my own. The food, though unfamiliar, was surprisingly good, and the conversation was lively. After we finished, we decided to check out the guild and see if I could register.
And now, here I was, standing in front of the guild.
The building was impressive, with towering stone walls and large wooden doors reinforced with iron bands. The exterior was adorned with banners of various colors and insignias, representing the many adventurers who had passed through its halls. The guild's emblem, a sword covered in fire was proudly displayed above the entrance, there might be a story there but it would be for a later day.
We stepped inside, and the atmosphere immediately hit me. The interior was bustling with activity. Adventurers of all kinds filled the large hall, discussing quests, exchanging stories, or simply enjoying a drink at the tavern area to the side. The walls were lined with various trophies—monster heads decorated the walls, ancient rusting weapons, and mysterious artifacts—each telling a story of its own.
Lucy led the way to the reception desk, where a sharp-eyed woman with short, dark hair and a no-nonsense demeanor was handling inquiries. She wore a formal uniform, with a small badge indicating her position as the guild's receptionist.
"Welcome to the guild," she greeted us as we approached. "How can I assist you today?"
"I'm here to register," I said, trying to sound confident.
She looked me over with a practiced eye, as if assessing my potential. Then looked at lucy.. Luke. "Your not from around here are you"
"No, i am.."
"He's with me" lucy jumped at my save "my grandfather is a friend of his, so he was sent here to stay with us."
"Ok, well which rank do you want to start at"
"Wait, i can choose my rank.?" That took me a bit by surprise, i did the only thing I knew would help, I looked at Lucy for help.
"He is new about the whole this, we will start at F rank for now." She told the receptionist before putting down 5 copper coins infornt of the receptionist.
"You'll need to fill out this form," she said, handing me a piece of parchment. "It includes basic information and your current abilities. Once you're registered, you can start taking quests."
"Thank you," I replied, taking the parchment. Lucy filled it out quickly with me answering any questions before we handed it back to the receptionist.
"Everything seems in order," she said, nodding as she reviewed the form. She raised an eyebrow at me, "so your name is Kevin and your a monk, a unarmed fighter."
Reciving a nod from me she looks at the paper and shrugs and does the seal and signature.
"Welcome to the guild, Mr. Kevin."
My excitement was over the moon, I was an adventure, the kind of people who dewl into dangerous places, hunt monsters and all the other stuff.
"Anything else I can help you with" the receptionist asked me because I still stood infront of her booth.
As i moved away from there, i noticed Lucy had already wandered over to the quest board. I joined her as she scanned the various postings, her eyes narrowing as she considered our options.
"Okay, here are a few quests we could take," she said, pointing to the parchment pinned to the board. "First one: 'Hunt Down Wild Boars in the Eastern Forest.' Easy enough, beginner level. We can handle that in our sleep."
"Sounds straightforward, but anything else" I asked her.
"Next up," she continued, "there's a request to deliver a package to a nearby village. Another beginner-level quest. It's mostly just walking and talking."
"Not too challenging, but it could be good for getting a little exercise," I said.
"And here's the last one," she said, her voice dropping slightly in seriousness as she pointed to a more elaborate notice. "It's an advanced quest: 'Investigate the Ancient Ruins in the Darkwood.' Dangerous and filled with traps. Only teams with at least three members of 'C' rank or higher are allowed to take it."
"That one's out of our league for now," I remarked, noting the stern warning at the bottom of the posting.
"Yeah, but someday…" Lucy's eyes sparkled with determination. "We'll be taking on quests like that and more."
"Someday," I echoed, feeling a surge of excitement for the journey ahead.
"Let's take the package quest," I said, but something still nagged at me. "By the way, I wanted to ask you about what the receptionist said earlier, about choosing my rank."
Lucy glanced at me, curiosity in her eyes. She seemed to sense that something was bothering me but didn't quite know what.
"So... I thought it was going to be more straightforward," I began, trying to find the right words. "Like, everyone would start at the bottom and then work their way up by taking on more quests. Your level would increase based on your experience and accomplishments, not because you could buy your way up."
Lucy tilted her head, clearly considering my words, then asked, "How does that benefit anyone?"
"Well, think about it," I continued, leaning in slightly. "If everyone starts at the bottom and has to earn their way up, it ensures that the higher-ranked members are actually skilled and experienced. They've proven themselves by completing tough quests and overcoming challenges. It also means that when a higher rank is assigned to a quest, you can trust that the person handling it is really capable."
I paused, watching as Lucy absorbed the explanation. "On the other hand, if ranks can just be bought, then anyone with enough money can claim to be an expert, even if they don't have the skills or experience to back it up. That could be dangerous for the guild and for the people who rely on it."
Lucy nodded slowly, a thoughtful expression on her face. "That makes sense," she admitted.
"Exactly," I agreed. "It's about creating a system that rewards hard work and talent, not just wealth."
"Sorry... I have to disagree," it was a new girl, she looked human and had white or light blond hair, two swords were kept on the table and she was drinking a mug of ale.
The thing that really caught my eyes was the way the swords were kept. It was kept on the table in such a way that she could pull it out in a second, even less maybe.
"you can tell me," I wanted to know more about this world and it's rules.
She took a swing and then continued, "So, there are a couple of reasons why you can pay to increase your rank, and they are..."
1. *Funding the Guild* "The guild needs money to operate. By allowing members to buy ranks, they gather funds to maintain the facilities, support missions, and help lower-ranked members. It's a way to keep everything running smoothly, this one of there source of income."
Full Liability for Risks* People who enter the labyrinth should know the risks of going to dangerous place, they are fully responsible for their own lives, whether they're ranked F or C, so the rank doesn't always make a difference in that sense.
- *Wealth vs. Experience* Some wealthy kids might use their parents' money to buy a rank, while others earn it through killing monsters and selling there parts. So, even if they pay, they often have the experience needed to back it up.
- *Secrecy About Skills* Many adventurers are secretive about their abilities and don't want to disclose their skills. Paying for a rank lets them avoid unnecessary questions.
- *Selling or Loaning Ranks* You can sell or loan your rank to someone else, but it has to be for more than 50% of the rank's value, and the guild takes a 5% cut, which follows up with.
Maintaining Previous Rank* "Sometimes, people who are high-ranking move around a lot. Instead of starting from the bottom every time they join a new guild, they can pay to get back the rank they already earned."
- *Rank Limits* You can only buy up to a C rank. Beyond that, ranks must be earned, with strict rules, regulations, and conditions that have to be met."
She finished with a shrug, "So, that's how it works."
"I see there are some benefits here," I mused aloud. "So, which rank are you in?"
She gave me a sly smile. "Show me yours, and I'll show you mine," she teased, her voice soft with a hint of playfulness.
I pulled out my F rank card, and she giggled at the sight. I waited for her to reveal hers, but instead, she flashed the back of the card.
"You're holding it backward," I pointed out.
"No, I'm holding it right. You're just too green to realize it, Monk Kevin," she retorted, her tone dripping with amusement. "You just gave a random person your identity and class. Now, all someone needs to do is hit you from afar with spells, arrows, or anything else, and you're done."
Her words struck me hard—I couldn't argue with her. I'd essentially handed over crucial information to a stranger, information that could easily be used against me.
"Consider this a professional courtesy," she said, turning back to her drink with a satisfied smirk.
I left her to enjoy her drink and returned to Lucy, who had been watching the whole exchange. Judging by the look on her face, it was clear she had learned something too.
