Greetings, dear readers! It's KaleidoMirror here once again.
This new chapter has posed a considerable challenge; it's the seventh revision, and I can confidently say that the result surpasses my expectations. Personally, this work superficially encapsulates everything I have wished to convey before. If you've been anticipating an update to the previous chapters, there is a possibility that it might happen, depending on how things unfold in the future. For me, on this 30th of December, my birthday, I decided to invest the early hours of the morning dedicating myself entirely to the writing of this project. I must confess that every moment was worthwhile, and although I'm not sure how it will be perceived, I only have one story pending for Alex-Keller's writing contest, so look forward to that.
I trust you will enjoy this proposal, which I wrote with sincerity and a deep appreciation for the works and franchises of Kaguya-sama: Love is War and Fate/Stay Night.
Now, let me immerse you in the world I've woven with carefully selected words, blending the essence of two universes I hold in such high regard—well, three, you'll understand in the end. Without further ado, I invite you to delve into the prologue of 'Echo of the Seasons.'
Are you ready? Let the adventure begin!"
The cold winter wind caressed her face as she stood in an extensive garden, immersed in a snowy landscape that transformed every corner into a white canvas. With her gaze fixed on the man emerging from the surrounding trees, she couldn't help but let out a playful laugh in response to his unexpected question.
"I didn't think you'd venture into the garden in this weather. Are you fascinated by the snow?" he teased, curiosity shining in his gray eyes as he looked at her.
She didn't respond immediately; she remained absorbed in watching the tall man, with tan skin and silver hair, who stood out magnificently against the icy backdrop, his hair waving in the wind as he exhaled breath that turned into vapor in the cold air.
Looking at him again, she was surprised at how easily he found her every time she indulged in her antics. Feeling caught in the act, she responded with a slight hesitation, playing with the edge of her scarf while avoiding the man's gaze. "It's been snowing a lot lately, but I love seeing how the sunset creates a magical spectacle on the snow. Don't you think so too, Shirou?"
The young man sighed at the girl's childish attempts at excuses. It didn't surprise him at all, as he knew her playful personality and unpredictable nature better than anyone in the world. However, he also saw the opportunity to scold her, especially because her health in her current state was his priority.
"I worry you might catch a cold. I know fools can be immune to colds, but please, think a bit about our little one's health. Isn't it sad that our offspring, not yet born, is forced to face the harshness of this weather?" Controlling the teasing tone in his voice, he approached slowly until he was in front of her. "I fear for the kind of mother you'll be in the near future, Chika."
"Oh, come on! How can you be so mean to us!" she protested, tapping his chest lightly and pouting. "I feel sorry for little Mei to have a father who can't show a bit of mercy to her mother."
Emiya felt tempted to continue joking, but seeing his wife's crocodile tears was enough for him to give in. Taking off his coat, he gently placed it over her, surprising her before running his hand through her hair to remove the accumulated snow.
"How can I stay mad at you when you look at me like that, Mr. Yamamoto?" accepting the coat, she moved into his comforting arms, being careful not to press too much against her prominent belly.
"Oh, of course, if that's how Mrs. Fujiwara wants to play, I have a whole arsenal in my game to entertain her, my lady," he offered his hand, met with a loving gesture. They looked at each other before sharing a brief kiss followed by laughter that broke the winter silence.
"Your offer sounds very tempting. I feel like little Mei would fancy a special house hot tea with a couple of strawberry desserts," commented Chika, taking Emiya's arm and resting her head on his shoulder.
"Your wishes are my duty, my sweet 'Hana'," Emiya responded with a smile, leading the way to their home.
"I can always count on my 'Yūsha' to rescue me," she continued, placing her left hand protectively on her belly. "Especially since we'll have our future 'Hime-sama' in the midst of our lives," she added in a whisper, eagerly anticipating the next stage of their lives.
The gentle spring breeze delicately brushed through the room, carried by the window. However, despite the rebirth of the approaching season, Chika felt immersed in motherhood as she tenderly watched little Mei sleeping on her chest.
At just one year old, her baby had become her world, the doted princess of her father. Chika fully embraced this new stage of her life, especially witnessing the charming and amusing side that her husband, Shirou, revealed in his newfound role as a father. Everyday scenes where Shirou engaged in babbling conversations with their daughter, thinking no one was watching, filled their home with joy and warmth.
Not to mention, gazing upon Mei's face had become one of her new hobbies. No one could blame her; Mei embodied the image of a fairy-tale princess, as she enthusiastically expressed in her passionate debates with her husband.
Proud and content, Chika observed the amalgamation of both parents in Mei: her silver hair, shinier and silkier than her own, and the golden eyes inherited from her husband's family. The soft and smooth touch of Mei's white skin made every caress and kiss a delight.
Chika had noticed Mei's peculiarities: her curiosity about her surroundings, hints of intelligence, and the inexhaustible energy she displayed during the day before falling into her afternoon naps. She was simply enchanting, filling both first-time parents with pride.
Despite the drowsy feeling enveloping her, the warm rays of sun filtering through the room's enormous window allowed her to appreciate their lush personal garden. Shirou, her husband, was absorbed in caring for the rose bushes and surrounding flowers with dedication. She recalled how he had already shown an interest in gardening when they were students, among various other incredible hobbies she had never imagined. But admiring this facet that never ceased to surprise her, she reminisced about those times when they weren't a couple yet.
For now, she could tease him and demand all the pampering she wanted, now that she had her role as a wife, taking the opportunity to snatch the title of 'daddy's girl' from her little Mei. Although Shirou always managed to decipher her schemes, adding a touch of complicity and fun to their relationship.
Lost in her thoughts, sleep became heavier, but she didn't forget that they would later have to visit her parents at the Fujiwara mansion for the new plans both families had for the Lunar New Year celebration.
"It would be wonderful if all of this could be more than just another dream," Chika sighed, her voice wrapped in the soft morning mist. Unaware, her eyelids closed slowly, plunging her into the world of dreams, where the happiness of her family remained the center of her reality.
"Hey... my love..." Shirou's concerned but insistent voice resonated in the tranquil room, seeking his wife's attention. "Chika... Are you there?"
Shirou had completed all the tasks related to the day's floral arrangements and had treated himself to a well-deserved quick shower before heading to the master bedroom.
The scene that unfolded before him left him feeling content. He couldn't help but gaze thoughtfully at the serene faces of his two loves in peaceful slumber. His wife cradled their daughter with utmost care, who gently sucked her finger while asleep. A faint smile formed on his lips as he noticed the subtle movement of little Mei before she returned to her peaceful rest.
Considering how to offer his support to both without disrupting the moment's peace, he sighed contentedly as he approached one of the drawers. He carefully pulled out a pair of sheets and returned with dedication, gently covering both the mother and the baby. Physical responses of comfort were not long in coming from both.
"They look so beautiful when they sleep," he expressed with a smile before placing his hand on his daughter's head, delicately brushing away some long strands from her face. "Especially you, my little one," he noticed how the baby responded to her father's voice, moving her tiny arms and eliciting a small laugh. "I wonder, what could you be dreaming about now?"
Emiya was aware that Chika had faced episodes of stress recently, collaborating with her father, the Fujiwara patriarch, on the company's plans for the upcoming presidential elections. He chose not to stand idly by and proved to be a suitable support, significantly easing his wife's workload. Although he himself experienced mental exhaustion in his own job, he understood that he couldn't show weakness at this time; Mei depended on both of them. He greatly enjoyed these little moments that strengthened his determination and eagerly desired to support his wife with the same intensity she had shown him in his adolescence.
Taking his time, he decided to patiently wait for both to wake up. For now, he would watch over them while finishing some pending reports on his laptop. After all, a father's work never ends, but in these moments, caring for and connecting with his family were his top priority.
Summer was a very special season for Mei. Among the moments she enjoyed the most was taking her time to explore and play in the garden, feeling the environment transform into a truly enchanting stage.
Especially because she felt the warm breeze wafting through her long hair, the short twin tails adorned with a small matching monochrome bow gently swaying in front of her. But what she liked most was savoring the sweet aroma of her mother's collection of flowers and trees. Particularly because she could see them from her room, creating a perfect setting for the extensive afternoon piano sessions she often shared with her mother.
Now, at just four years old, she had showcased remarkable skill, leaving no doubt about her mother's legacy. She also enjoyed her mother's unique musical teachings that never overlooked fun and joy, achieving constant milestones that her mother never failed to praise and commend. However, Mei harbored a secret from her mother. She felt a deep admiration for her, extending beyond technical skill to the grace and dedication with which her mother immersed herself in music, captivating and inspiring Mei to follow in her footsteps.
But lately, the content of their lessons had changed, and they found themselves at a very special moment.
"Mama," Mei lowered her head, feeling a bit tired but not easily defeated. "Do you think Mei will be able to play it well next time?"
Her mother smiled at her daughter before playing a gentle rhythm on the piano. "You're doing well, Mei-chan, there's no need to rush."
"But... but..." her voice grew smaller, turning into a whisper, "Mei wants to surprise Papa."
"I know, my treasure," Chika nodded in response to her daughter's words before sighing with amusement. It was understandable since the melody that resonated in their recent sessions was none other than "Last Stardust," her masterpiece—a composition that had taken shape during her final year at the prestigious Shuchi'in Academy. "But you need to learn to maintain the tempo properly; you tend to get nervous halfway through."
"I don't want to make a fool of myself in front of Papa."
"My heart, you're Papa's princess, and he's always happy every time he watches you play," she sighed, noticing her daughter lifting her gaze. "Besides, we still have time; we can get started after taking a short break. Do you agree?"
The girl nodded as a couple of maids approached them, offering a couple of glasses of lemonade and a pair of strawberry desserts.
"Thank you, Aida," the mother expressed her gratitude.
"Thank you, Miss Aida," Mei echoed with the same grace in an attempt to emulate her.
"There's no need to thank me, my Lady," the young maid smiled at both before making a small bow. "It's a pleasure to be allowed to listen to young Mei play the piano so beautifully; it's always enjoyable for everyone in the mansion, as her music allows us to carry on with our tasks."
The mother smiled at the sincere words but noticed how her daughter felt somewhat overwhelmed by the compliments. It was curious how she could, at times, see the same nervous expression that her husband had in the face of compliments. With a bow, the maid left them to enjoy a more intimate moment.
Mei, despite enjoying her favorite dessert, kept her eyes on the sheet music of the song. According to her mother's own words, she could recall that the inspiration behind this piece started like small embers that grew in intensity with every encounter she had with her father since she met him.
"I can see why you're Daddy's girl," Chika joked as she admired her daughter, who looked at her in confusion while a bit of cream had stuck to her left cheek. "It's quite surprising that even Shirou's expression is the same as yours now, my treasure."
"Hey!" the little princess expressed her dismay, but her mother's gentle laughter made her feel joyful at the same time. "It's not fair that you tease Mei like this!"
These were the brief moments of pause between each practice, where Mei enjoyed chatting with her mother about her and her life. But the times she loved the most were when she could hear her mother recount the past glories of her father as a student, like on this particular occasion.
"So, where did we leave off last time, my ray of sunshine?" Her mother's mysterious and mischievous expression didn't escape her.
"We left off when you were having fun as the student council secretary visiting the gardening club!" the little one boasted, hoping her mother would fall into her trap.
"Does my little Mei-chan want to hear that old story of when I met your father?" Chika felt tricked by her daughter, but she didn't show it. She understood that Mei always loved hearing that ancient story, especially about how she had met her husband. She would never forget how Shirou was taking care of the flowers in the gardening club. "Oh, do you want to hear when I got him to bake a big cake for the student council, or the time I invited him to spy on your Aunt Kaguya's first date with your Uncle Miyuki?"
Most of the stories evoked a lot of emotions in her when she reminisced, allowing her daughter to share funny moments about the emotional passages of her youth. However, sometimes Mei couldn't help but be aware of the tone and expression when her mother spoke about certain aspects of Shirou.
"No, Mei would like to hear when you used to visit him constantly to invite him to join the student council!" The innocent voice of her little one didn't leave room to change the rhythm of the conversation, but she still tried to add more options.
"Is it that you don't want to hear about how your father unanimously won several free sports competitions or the time he made your sweet and innocent mother angry for the first time?" She emphasized the last part with the intention of diverting her daughter's attention, but she saw it was in vain against the stern expression she used with Shirou when she showed herself inflexible.
Now that she remembered, it was during that time that Shirou was not an official member of the club, but he always took a moment to care for the flowers routinely, often during lunchtime. But she had never mentioned to her daughter about the vacant expressions that accompanied her father when he engaged in certain physical activities, especially when participating in clubs like Kyūdō and Kendō, where his exceptional skills garnered constant invitations that he politely declined due to not having enough time.
"Okay," she finally gave in to her daughter's gaze, but sighed before continuing, "But before that, you should know that your dad never formally joined the Student Council." She sighed before taking a sip of tea before continuing, "You must know that your mommy was always very insistent with him on that point, but everyone on the council knew they could handle him in case of problems; in the end, he was always an unofficial member, much to the president's delight."
"But Uncle Yuu always tells Mei how daddy used to be really mean to him and that his love advice doesn't work!" Her innocent voice couldn't contend with Ishigami's efforts to try to tease her husband with his reputation as a 'casanova,' of which his friend had some envy to a certain extent.
"That's not true, Mei-chan," she lowered her cup before taking a small bite of a strawberry. "Your father always looked out for him in his own way; they just had certain conflicts in how to resolve various situations."
Chika was aware that, among the things that surprised her the most about Shirou at that time, was his incredible and unique determination, highlighting his unwavering desire to offer help, even to those who didn't ask for it but clearly needed it. Something that Ishigami didn't always take well, suspecting when they first met that someone like his Senpai could be so kind to someone like him, with a dark past. But in the end, after many misunderstandings, they both managed to overcome their differences.
"But Uncle Yuu tells Mei how daddy used to chase after other women besides mommy," Chika could tell how her daughter was trying to provoke her with her sweet voice. She really had to have a 'proper talk' with Ishigami if he didn't leave certain things from the past in the past.
During her time at Shuchi'in, she had heard certain stories about Shirou being a heartbreaker, but nothing could be further from the truth. She had talked to her husband about certain details of his previous personal life, understanding that he never tried anything serious with anyone. He was always chivalrous and ready to lend a shoulder to comfort anyone who needed it. Additionally, his 'seemingly perfect' features and the weight of his surname made him a perfect target for many young ladies. In the end, she, too, had gone through certain ups and downs in her relationship with Shirou, but he had always been constant and kind to her.
"You shouldn't believe everything Uncle Yuu tells you!" Her mother exclaimed as she breathed with slight annoyance. "You know what Aunt Lino always says about him."
"Is he a perverted beast?"
"Exactly... that Uncle Yuu is a beast! What? Why in the world does Miko talk like that to my little one?" Chika felt confused, but her daughter's expression was all she needed to connect the dots. In the end, she could only sigh before vowing to have a serious conversation with her friends; sometimes, she wondered how they could be a couple. "You're completely wrong, Mei-chan. What your fun Aunt Lino meant was that Uncle Yuu was the real casanova, so you must be careful not to trust a man like that... Do you promise?"
The little one stayed for a moment looking at her mother before nodding, but wanting to talk next time to her Aunt Lino about who the real casanova of Shuchi'in was. "Mei promises Mami!"
"That's my girl!" Chika felt proud of her offspring, who was slowly growing, and she felt that this new facet as a mother was becoming more and more fun.
For now, both dedicated themselves to change the course of the conversation, where they continued commenting on the most important details that represented the intense emotions with which her mother had composed the musical piece.
Chika felt grateful every day for the life she had, especially because she deeply adored her husband. But before having a relationship with Shirou, there was a veil of mystery surrounding his person.
Of course, she could, albeit partially, have access to certain information about Shirou's past when he was a student at Shuchi'in if she had requested the connection thanks to her family, the Fujiwaras. However, she never wanted to know his circumstances unless it was in a personal manner and with the appropriate trust placed in her by him.
However, in the end, she found out everything, even though it was never her intention to learn so much about Shirou. Primarily, this was due to the pressures from her family, who wanted both of them to have a connection between their families.
It was obvious now that she thought about it; she was born into one of the oldest and most prestigious clans, with a history that dated back even before the Edo Shogunate. The Fujiwara family's background was outstanding, overshadowing unique feats in the political arena, becoming a prominent figure during the same period as the Yamamoto family.
Similarly, Shirou apparently belonged to the same clan with a history parallel to his family's. It was known that the Yamamotos once had blood ties to the main line of the Muramasa. According to the information provided by his family at that time, Shirou's paternal grandfather, Yamamoto Takeshi, led as the sole CEO of the titanic family conglomerate, which had a rich history in Japan as the primary driver in the military domain.
Unfortunately, Takeshi had made a mistake at some point in his life, an error that grew in the last decades. Because of his influence diversifying globally, he increasingly distanced himself from the glorious Japanese roots, making many conservative supporters enemies of the Yamamoto family. This fact was the starting point for many movements on and off the map board, culminating in the loss of the main family, leaving Takeshi completely alone and resentful in a tragic end to the Yamamoto bloodline—an indisputable fact until the apparent lost heir emerged on the map again.
There was still much she didn't understand because the information was incomplete, but she didn't want to find out this secret this way. However, her father was firm enough, and her mother was patient enough to explain to her that the Fujiwaras only wanted the elderly Takeshi, an old family friend and benefactor, to be happy again. That's why they wanted, through Chika, to let him know that their family would spare no effort to help in whatever way necessary.
"It's so difficult to know about the world of politics," she used to lament on occasions when they thought about how intricate and challenging everything Shirou had gone through was. "It's scary not knowing who you can truly trust."
But she felt that now she understood at least a little more about why Shirou behaved in a somewhat 'special' way. Because despite helping everyone, he unconsciously placed a barrier around himself.
This small episode in her husband's life was something she still didn't know how to approach with Mei, who was, to a certain extent, curious about certain aspects of her father. Chika couldn't feel cornered or show hesitation in front of her daughter, who was too smart for her own good. "Oh, darn it!" How she hated when she fell into certain wordplay tricks with her. Still, she ended up feeling that Shirou had a lot to do with this, how bittersweet it was that both her husband and her daughter were playing with her like this. "She won't allow it anymore!"
She knew her daughter suspected or maybe she already had a certain criterion about certain things, so she always tried to maintain certain discretions on the topic. Until Mei reached a reasonable age to consider the occasion, for now, she avoided discussing it and sidestepped her questions when they headed in that direction.
Once again, her mother had done it. Every time they reached a certain point in the conversation, her mother would apologize before going to the bathroom or decide it was time to continue with the lessons.
However, Mei already knew her mother didn't want to talk about certain things concerning her father. But, after all, that was okay. Her mommy should have completely valid reasons for that. After all, she had learned from her daddy that sometimes people can protect the ones they love when they decide to keep secrets. But at some point, they would decide when it's the right time to share it. That's why Mei would be a good girl and wait as long as necessary for mommy to share it with her. After all, she could feel her mother's sincere admiration for her father during each of the stories from his school days.
Now that she remembered, her godmother Kaguya loved talking about how her mother had become very close to her daddy during the last school festival when the melody 'Last Stardust' was finally completed. Especially because her mother, with a big smile and quite blush, was emotional when she talked to her about how that day was a turning point in her life when, for the first time, she could discover 'the magic that her father could create,' knowing a secret that she would learn in due time.
A couple of days had passed, but Chika was aware of how her daughter had progressed to a certain extent with her piano lessons. At this point, after their usual breaks, she was surprised when Mei asked her again about how her last school festival with her father had been. Of course, being the adult and first-time mother, she managed to dodge the powerful bullet of curiosity from her hyperactive daughter, but the mystery was still there.
In the end, she kept her own thoughts and details about certain aspects to herself but managed to tell Mei certain things that made the little Mei love how her mother was able to surprise her father and win his heart.
"Well... well," strictly speaking, it wasn't like that, but she knew that she made Shirou take his first step and understand what it truly felt like to be unconditionally supported.
That moment between Shirou and Chika allowed a connection where he could understand some things that he still didn't have a complete picture of who the person in front of him was. It was then that he heard firsthand how Shirou had agreed to fulfill a promise where he had received help from his true paternal grandfather. He explained that despite the adversities and complexities associated with his new surname "Yamamoto," his grandfather, Takeshi, had always been searching for him and would be happy if he could fulfill the dream of returning to his family. Shirou was willing, but he expressed that he should be allowed to move forward with his own dream. Even when he initially had the surname "Emiya," his grandfather would respect that within the social circle, that surname would be respected before being reintroduced to his original blood family.
"That was beautiful," her daughter's cheers and childish jumps couldn't be delayed. The little one had felt the torrent of sweet and special emotions that were palpable in each of her mother's words.
"That's right," Chika felt proud of having told her how she had won her husband's heart, "Did you think your father took the first step in our relationship?"
The girl only smiled in complicity with her mother while devouring her cake with great intensity before asking, "So, is that how you tamed Shuchi'in's casanova?"
"Exactly, that's how your mother tamed the...!" Her mother's angry voice and flushed face reprimanded her, "Mei-chan! What have I told you about using that nickname in this house?"
"That I shouldn't use it..."
"And what else?" Chika asked, looking at her questioningly.
"Mei shouldn't follow Uncle Yuu's evil games," the little one just lowered her head, sad to be scolded.
"That's my girl," her mother praised before hugging her.
"That's right, Mom, because Uncle Yuu has never told Mei that Dad has a hidden 'E-rank Luck' potential and no '+EX Skill' to charm any woman who crosses his path."
The little one looked at her mother, who murmured a lot of words she had never heard before, before nodding with a smile at what she had said. But she decided not to share at least today with her mother about the little secrets on which her uncle had been detailed about some passages of her father's youth; there would be another time to confirm them.
In the end, what mattered was that she could feel through each of the love stories her mother had shared, creating a connection that Mei could deeply feel.
Mei was captivated by her mother's words throughout the conversation that evening. That was one of the main reasons why she could hardly contain her emotions and decided to talk to someone who could give her an objective opinion, having experienced it.
Due to the special situation her father had been in lately, not being with them, her mother was very patient and provided all the support she needed to have a cellphone. This, for obvious reasons, only had access to calls and messages. Although she trusted that her daughter wouldn't neglect certain aspects of her education, it was too early to give her complete freedom regarding certain things on the Internet. Mei agreed; after all, the main reason for having a mobile was to talk to her father or send him messages whenever she wanted, especially because her father never forgot to call her every night to wish her "good night" before going to sleep. She took the opportunity to share with him the "feats" she had achieved during her private lessons that day.
Surprisingly, Yamamoto Mei was already standing out among her peers, according to her teachers' opinion. She was considered mature and clever enough to leave even the strictest and most prejudiced teacher perplexed.
"The blood of her family cannot be wrong," were words that echoed constantly inside and outside the Yamamoto mansion. However, that was not a reason to become complacent. Her father used to talk constantly about how 'hunger was the enemy,' expressing that the purpose of those words was to remind a person not to be swayed by small things that could make them lose sight of what was most important.
'Ring... ring...'
'Ring... ring...'
The phone rang for a moment before a soft tone was heard behind the phone. "Hello, this is the Shirogane residence."
"Hello Aunt Kaguya!" Mei's innocent childlike laughter soon became evident.
"Oh, my sweet Mei-chan," her relative's warm laughs brightened the beginning of their conversation. "I didn't expect your call at this hour, but, still, you can tell me what's going on. Your Aunt is more than willing to listen to you."
"Hehehe, you know, Aunt, today Mom told me how she managed to make Dad fall in love."
"Well, well, Chika never wastes time boasting about your father," the elder's playful tone expressed agreement with her goddaughter, but she decided not to inquire further. "Speaking of Shirou, where is he now?"
"Hmm..." the girl took a moment to think while humming a little song, "Yesterday, Dad talked to Mei about how the weather in London is very rainy, so Mei expressed her concern that he might catch a cold."
"I see... Shirou has been busy lately."
"Yeah."
"Still, it's good to hear how much you care about him. You remind me of Chika when she usually expressed the same concern in the past."
"My mommy too?"
"That's right, my sweet Mei-chan. Not for nothing was she always so enthusiastic about everything related to Shirou." Letting out a little laugh, Kaguya felt tempted to talk to her goddaughter about this topic.
Kaguya had been an important part of Chika's life, especially because she was the best friend to the point of being selected as the godmother of her daughter. Besides, she had been present from the beginning of the relationship between the two, fully aware of each of the changes her best friend underwent after meeting Shirou.
Recalling tenderly the first time her friend sought advice from her about her 'platonic love.' At one point, Chika had been honest about how she was slowly starting to experience the mythical butterflies fluttering in her stomach for the first time. To the point where she noticed how her friend, with every experience lived with Shirou, finally ended up changing her previous mindset.
Not believing it possible that Chika had given up the ideal of being a 'waifu' for everyone, to decidedly become the most special person in her beloved's heart. Talking about the feeling of tasting a sweet lemon flavor every time she spoke about her love for him.
In the end, they were old stories, but none of that stopped her from talking about the most embarrassing episodes of her friend with her daughter. 'Who can blame her? If it was because of the silver-haired couple that she experienced certain setbacks with her own love story, in the end, she just decided to mention some episodes where her father managed to leave the 'love detective Chika' speechless on more than one occasion.
"Does little Mei-chan want to hear more stories about how your dad saved your mom from the evil villains?"
"Yes!, Yes!, Yes!" The emotional and childlike expressions full of expectations flooded the phone on the other side of the line, drawing the attention of a third party.
"My love, Kaguya, who are you talking to that makes you so animated at this hour?" The mysterious voice seemed interested in the lady's behavior.
"Oh... Miyuki," she looked surprised by her husband's sudden hug, but she reciprocated the affectionate gesture, "With our super special goddaughter!"
"Oh... but if it isn't little Mei-chan! I'm surprised at the unusualness of her call," sighing in memories about the girl, the adult showed pride, "How has my little ray of sunshine been?"
"Hello Godfather!" The cheerful voice of the child did not get lost, even through the call, "It's a pleasure for Mei to greet you, very good evening."
"But what sweet manners you have, my girl!" Miyuki was grateful that his goddaughter was not as unrefined as her mother, but he appreciated how good Chika was with him and his wife, "I hope our Mikan-chan can be a bit more lively like you."
"Darling!" His wife admonished him as she looked at him coldly.
"It's a joke, Kaguya, you know that Mikan-chan is as beautiful and elegant as her mother!" His husband's words caused her face to fill with a deep blush.
"Moo... How can you be so mean to us? Why do both this sweet mother and her beautiful daughter always end up being intimidated by their cold husband and father?" His wife's tearful crocodile eyes made it clear that Miyuki had gone a bit too far with his joke, so he could only give her a kiss on the cheek as he held her in his arms.
"You know as well as I do, thanks in part to the little push that Shirou gave us both, which allowed us to be more honest with ourselves." Taking the phone from his wife's hands, he rolled his fierce-looking eyes as he admired his wife, "Besides, we have little Mei-chan as our guardian angel."
"Godfather, you can't intimidate Mei like that, I'll tell my Aunt about your secret about her picture!"
"MI-YU-KI-SAN," Kaguya's ominous voice echoed in her husband's fearful ears.
"Let's calm down, my love," he tried to make an excuse, but his beloved's unwavering gaze didn't give him a chance to do so, "You know that Mei-chan is a little girl; she might be misinterpreting some things."
"I would like to hear more about that in detail, Mei-chan," Kaguya smiled as she squeezed her husband's hand, who was trying to escape subtly. "Ara... Ara... 'How cute,' my beloved husband won't leave me talking alone with our lovely goddaughter, will he?"
Shirogane could only nod silently at his wife's 'triumphant' look. In the end, both adults and the little girl laughed at the witty banter between both parties as they continued their phone conversation. But before ending their conversation, her godmother Kaguya also expressed her gratitude for her father's unwavering support for her and her husband. Since, at some point, Shirou provided the spark that her Godfather Miyuki needed, inspiring both him and others to keep fighting and pursuing their dreams.
The sound of the piano continued for a long time, but Mei kept thinking about her mother's earlier words.
During their last break, her mother spoke more about Shirou's past. Sighing every time she talked about how incredibly stubborn her dad could be when he set his mind to it, not to mention how manly he could be in those moments.
In conclusion, according to her mother's words, her father had a significant flaw. But, at the same time, it was for that very reason that she sought to have the other half of the song reflect her innermost thoughts about the sacrifices her father was willing to make to help others.
It was a challenging task, but Mei appreciated how imaginative and great a musician her mother was. She described in a perfect analogy the life of her father. Portraying him as if Shirou were a star that would reach the pinnacle of his life, becoming 'cosmic dust,' willing to crumble to such an extent to protect others.
To her mother's concern and sadness, this happened on more than one occasion in the past. However, not all was lost, as it was also the most attractive aspect of him as a person. Since Chika was always drawn to Shirou's firm determination and willingness to sacrifice himself for the well-being of others, that was the purest and most genuine essence of her father's character as a person.
It was these very actions that ended up triggering a series of events that would culminate in Chika fully trusting him, to the point where she couldn't imagine a life without him by her side. Demonstrating that over the years, she would become the great support that Shirou needed to fulfill his dream of becoming a "hero of justice" in his own way.
In essence, Mei understood that each of the components—the lyrics, melody, harmonies, rhythm, among others—encapsulated a perfect song about the person named Shirou Emiya. Being her mother Chika Fujiwara's masterpiece, "Last Stardust" perfectly encapsulated the character and the unique philosophy of her role model. Mei found new mysteries and surprises each time she played it, feeling the greatness and musical genius that her mother had captured in the most emotional and poetic way possible, reflecting the deep love she felt for her beloved.
"Of course... Of course," nothing had been possible after countless pleas and supplications, where finally, her mother yielded to her. Not to mention that her constant childish games and jokes were half the reason she agreed more quickly, successfully convincing her mother to teach her the song. Besides, her father's birthday was approaching rapidly, adding more motivation to give it her all and play it perfectly for him in their private family recital.
For now, after finishing their latest rehearsal, mother and daughter exchanged glances, creating a pleasant silence between them. The little girl had renewed her determination with her father's imminent return from a business trip to London next week. Chika, on her part, felt proud to see her daughter's effort and dedication increasing with each passing day. Unfortunately, duty called, and she could feel her phone vibrating inside her jacket.
"All right, Mei-chan, we'll leave this practice for another occasion. Your mother has a very important meeting with her Pre-Campaign Team in an hour," she expressed with a remorseful look, trying to hide the stress and fatigue but always maintaining a smile for her daughter.
The little one briefly reflected between her mother and the piano, hiding a hint of anxiety as she lowered her head. However, she looked up and smiled, "I know, Mommy. Your work is important too, that's why Mei will do her best. For you and Dad!"
Chika felt her heart tighten, but she placed her hand on her daughter's, gently stroking her hair. "You're a very talented and special girl for your age. That's why your mommy doesn't want to be away from you at any moment, but I promise you, this is only temporary."
The girl nodded, not letting her childlike smile falter. However, everything changed when she felt her mother hugging her tightly, and tears falling on her small cheeks.
"You know that your mommy loves you too much, right?"
Mei was left speechless as her mother frequently apologized for the same issue lately. She let herself be enveloped by the affection, reciprocating with the same intensity. The exchange between mother and daughter continued for a long time, while the room filled with the soft sound of the unexpected rain falling on the windowpane.
In the end, they separated. The mother had reddened eyes but contained her emotions in a partial smile. The daughter, on the other hand, appeared radiant, albeit with slight traces of tears in the corners of her golden eyes.
"Mei will behave well waiting for your return, Mommy," the girl said as she launched herself towards her one last time. Climbing onto the piano stool, she reached the height to kiss her surprised mother's cheek. Throughout, she maintained the same reassuring expression that her father used to comfort her mother in the past.
"I'll try to be back before dinner, I promise," she replied, returning the show of affection. "Try not to bother Aunt Moeha too much like last time. Remember that the servants and guards will inform me of everything the little 'Ojou-sama' does in the mansion," she added, playing with her daughter's nose with her index finger. Mei smiled at her one last time before straightening up.
"But... Mom... Aunt Moeha always wants us to play princesses. I don't always like being the dragon," the little one tried to argue but met her mother's amused look.
"You know very well that you and I, that's not the main issue," said the mother, looking at her with feigned severity. "You tend to play with her on more than one occasion, making her do whatever you want. You shouldn't take advantage of your aunt like that!"
"But, Mom..."
"No 'buts' young lady!"
"At least, I'd like Aunt Toyomi or my godmother Kaguya to take care of me," she tried to show doubt and sadness, deploying the typical puppy eyes look as her last trump card.
"You know I would like that, but your Godmother Kaguya has started her own independent photography business, so she'll be quite busy this week. Not to mention, Aunt Toyomi is still doing business abroad, so I couldn't get in touch with her even if I wanted to," lamented the mother as she watched her daughter's expression grow even sadder.
"But... but..."
"I know you also like spending time with them, but there will be more opportunities."
"Do you really promise?" Mei's expression still showed some doubt.
"Of course!" she confirmed while hugging her again. "Besides, your mother has managed to secure the best tickets for the big show at the Tokyo Dome next month."
"Is that true, Mom? Does that mean we'll get to see the famous rising idol Ai Hoshino?"
"Has your mommy ever lied to you, my little treasure?" she nodded at her daughter's bright eyes. "The same one live and in person. It wasn't easy, but apparently, the weight behind your father's name even allowed us to get 'very special' backstage passes, so we'll be able to meet your idol, my little Mei."
"You're the best mom! Well, dad is too. I just wish he could come soon," she lamented as her mother placed her hands on her cheeks.
"Your daddy is, only he's really busy, and I know he's trying for us in his own way, so it's our duty to greet him with a smile when he comes home, don't you think?"
Both mother and daughter affirmed with an affectionate gesture, aware that, despite this minor inconvenience, they wouldn't miss the chance to make up for lost time with more memorable family moments.

The vibrant sound of the bowstring being released and the arrow flying through the air was an art in Kyūdō, a precise dance that captured the essence of the moment when the arrow headed towards its target with grace and determination.
The twilight tinted the horizon with warm hues as Shirou Emiya proudly watched his daughter Mei. The little one had tied her distinctive silver hair into a long ponytail, although she still retained the iconic twin tails at the front that identified her.
In the family dojo, every moment they shared felt like a journey through time for Shirou. The evening light highlighted Mei's delicate and determined figure as she held the bow gracefully, ready to challenge distance and precision with her arrows.
With a serene expression, Shirou closely followed each of his daughter's movements, maintaining the right distance but offering advice at the opportune moments. As a father, he knew when to praise her with sincere words of admiration.
"Mei, your posture is excellent," he approached, placing his right hand on her small shoulders, "Just maintain that concentration and fluidity in your movements," he indicated, admiring the surprising natural ability she had to learn the art of Kyūdō.
"But, Mei feels like she's still not as good as you, Dad..." the discouraged voice of the five-year-old was evident.
"Well, you know what I say..." Emiya crouched down to her height, smiling.
"Practice makes perfect," she pouted as she lowered the bow, "I know that, but Mei feels like lately, I've reached a point where I can't improve no matter how hard I try."
"You know, I wasn't that good at the beginning either, but you shouldn't rush it," the father ruffled her hair before wiping away the first tears that had welled up in his daughter's golden orbs, "So that you can reach the point where the bow feels like part of your body, it will take a long journey until you get to that level."
"But... but..." she looked down as the quiver and arrow fell to the ground, "I just want Daddy to be proud of Mei."
"You're wrong about that, sweetheart," shaking his head, Shirou carefully took the girl into a paternal embrace, "I'm already proud of how quickly you've progressed immensely in the last few lessons, my sunshine."
Mei could only reciprocate her father's hug as she felt warmth in her heart. In the background, the whispers of the wind and the murmur of nature accompanied the scene, creating a serene and emotional atmosphere. Both father and daughter found a special connection amid their usual training.
But in the midst of that emotional moment, each had their own thoughts about the other, reflecting on how it all began about six months ago. Shirou vividly remembered how, despite Mei starting to gain recognition and praise in the musical field, his little one faced an internal conflict. In their nightly conversations with Chika, they shared concerns about how their daughter might be influenced by the pressure from third parties who saw Mei as the continuation of Chika Fujiwara's unfinished career.
In his introspection, Shirou marveled at Mei's internal voice and her unique perception of herself. Despite her innate musical ability, his daughter showed a firm will and resolve worthy of an Emiya. "Damn," Shirou thought, his daughter was incredibly similar to him on those occasions. It was no surprise when Mei decided to postpone her steps into the competitive world of music, exploring other options that seemed interesting to her on a more personal level, where she could truly feel special, ignoring the expectations that once weighed on her mother in her darkest moments.
That's how she found an unexpected pastime in Kyūdō, an activity suggested by Shirou during a conversation where both released certain internal fears and insecurities. Chika proved to be an exceptional mother, adding her valuable opinion based on her own experience. Those words were not ignored; after all, who in all of Japan could overlook Chika Fujiwara's masterful skills in the musical realm?
Unanimously, Kyūdō lessons began being imparted by someone as reliable as her father. Although they were gradually interrupted in the last month due to Shirou's work demands as the new CEO of the family company Yamamoto. Through phone exchanges and photographs sent by his wife, Shirou was aware of how Mei, despite the distance, never lost to time. His sweet daughter became surprisingly more skilled in this ancient Japanese discipline.
However, the last week, in particular, had brought with it greater difficulty in finding time together. The art of Kyūdō became a way for father and daughter to confront the growing melancholy they felt in their hearts.
"Do you know that Mei loves Daddy very much?"
"I know, my little one."
"Do you still have to go again?" the still sad voice of the girl was evident, "Mei will turn six next fall, that's why you can't miss it."
"But it will only be a week, my treasure," Shirou looked amused at the face that resembled his daughter so much. Without a doubt, his daughter was the spitting image of Chika. Chuckling playfully, the father hugged her again, easing the tension in Mei's body. "There's no force in the world that would make your father miss your party."
"Do you promise?" asked her small voice still with doubt, offering a little pinky.
"Of course, my little Mei!" Emiya anchored his own pinky, sealing his words in a promise.
"Remember that Mommy always tells Mei that breaking a promise is something no man should do, especially to a woman," the little one looked at her father with melancholic eyes, "I don't want Mama to cry again."
Shirou felt conflicted because he had broken a previous promise to his wife, but that was a problem he had managed to fix months ago. However, apparently, his little girl was very smart and observant. In the end, he gave her a new smile as he kissed her on the forehead.
"I know, that won't happen again," Emiya pressed his forehead against his daughter's as they both closed their eyes, "Your father found a new reason to be a hero of justice a long time ago."
Both laughed as they decided to share one last class before Shirou traveled abroad. He was determined to resolve this new problem that he had been carrying for months, but he also knew that at home, his wife and daughter relied on him. If he had to take up his swords one last time, he would gladly do it for the happiness of his family.
The girl, on the other hand, had other thoughts in mind. Whether through inherited gifts or blessings passed down by her parents, she couldn't deceive herself. Despite the complexities of her initial situation, she sincerely loved her parents with the affection that only a little girl in the world could express. With a new resolution in her heart, Mei imagined that each of her arrows was a means of getting closer to the imaginary figure of her father, slowly becoming symbols of determination and resilience. It was a tangible connection between them, even when the demands of the world threatened to tear them apart.
The dance of the arrows became a bond that went beyond the mastery of Kyūdō; it was an unbreakable tie between a proud father and his talented daughter.
The rays of the autumn morning delicately filtered through the curtains, creating a warm and comforting atmosphere in the room. However, unlike the soft light that bathed the space, its owner remained immersed in a dreamlike state, whispering her thoughts into the air and letting joy permeate every word.
"It would be truly wonderful if all of this could transcend beyond being just another dream," she expressed, her voice wrapped in the morning mist, letting her dreams slip into reality.
Suddenly, the stillness of the room was interrupted by a childlike voice full of protest and discontent.
"This isn't fair! It's definitely not fair! I wanted to have a bit more fun!"
Mei, surprised, turned towards the source of the commotion and found her newest friend, Nursery Rhyme, floating in the air with childish gestures and expressions of displeasure. Both looked like a pair of little girls, almost like identical twins, but with nuances reflecting their unique personalities.
While Mei gathered half of her long hair into two short twin tails at the front, leaving the rest loose, her golden eyes revealed resolution and firm will. On the other hand, Nursery Rhyme, or Alice, as she preferred to be called, wore her silver hair in long ponytails tied with violet ribbons, but her violet eyes exuded happiness and constant curiosity.
"Good morning to you too, Alice," she greeted, approaching as she left the comfort of the bed.
Alice, still sobbing, clutched a light blue book tightly under her left arm, her discontent evident. "Next time, I'll decide how I want the story to end!" she asserted, with a wrinkle in her nose and crocodile tears in her eyes.
Mei, attempting to console her, sighed resignedly. "There's no reason to get upset. We've created another memory, Alice," she said with tenderness, but her friend's wounded look indicated that this time, she had made a considerable mistake.
"Oh, Alice," she continued, changing her tone to a more curious one, catching her friend's attention. "Apparently, today a new package arrived for my father from his latest business meeting in China..." Mei approached, sharing the news with restrained excitement. "So, you know what that means!"
"Both of us can celebrate... a super tea party!" Joy immediately lit up Alice's face. Unable to contain it, she found herself soaring through the room, leaving a golden trail in her wake. "This will be a great day!, We can celebrate your birthday in style this afternoon!"
"That's right, Alice." Mei's golden orbs shimmered as translucent lines traced her legs, propelling her jump toward Alice, who caught her with grace, allowing both girls to soar amid cheerful and happy expressions throughout the room. "This is a very special day because my father will arrive today."
"How exciting!"
"I know!"
"I can't wait, Mei!"
"Me neither, Alice!"
As usual, this was a scene that usually unfolded after waking up. Both friends had created a precious connection that had been forged between them over the past few months.
As always, the reliable promise of a tea party could dispel any trace of disagreement between them, making little Mei find many adventures with a very special friend with whom she could share a secret that only she knew.
The happiness she felt in having a friend like Alice to brighten her days overshadowed any shadow of loneliness she might have felt in the past. Moreover, Alice had shown her a perspective that forever changed her 'world' in a way she had never imagined.
Apparently, she was a 'magus,' and according to Alice's words, she could create wonderful things with enough training. But that didn't matter now; what she didn't know was that her father's gift was accompanied by something she could never have imagined finding in this life. An object so symbolic to Shirou Emiya, capable of eliciting emotions he had left behind so long ago in another life.
The responsible one, a person who 'proclaimed himself' a very good friend of her father by his own right, had sent her father on so many 'adventures' that he had never wanted to be a part of. In the end, he had decided to personally intervene again so that Mei would receive a 'gift' that he was sure she would love.
After all, this 'person' was sure to accomplish his goal. He had a precedent that the 'first gift' he had given Mei had been a huge success. It was due to his foresight that caused the girl's first destined meeting with Nursery Rhyme. So, using his 'power' on so many occasions, where having deceived other 'existences beyond the logic' of other planes and dimensions, it was not difficult for him to deceive someone as 'insignificant' as Tsukuyomi this time. Sure, he may have earned a deep hatred from the goddess for not intervening in her own games, but that was water under the bridge.
"Yamamoto Mei," or how she would originally be called "Emiya Mei," was someone he had seen as a possibility among many paths. That's why, observing this 'Shirou' with a 'relatively good life,' he had decided to move his own strings to provoke a little fun he could enjoy. In the end, who would have imagined growing fond of this girl, 'of course, she was special in a certain way,' that's why he liked her immensely. He decided not to hold back and offer something that wouldn't be too outlandish, and this 'second gift' could offer an even more amusing effect.
In the end, no one could determine if his actions could be classified as kind or unfortunate enough; he was just an old man who enjoyed fun. So now it was up to this girl, Mei from this universe, to be the first person to witness the unfolding of a 'kaleidoscope of unimaginable scenes,' where her father would be the main character. All because our young 'magus' had received her sixth birthday gift in advance.

"This story is about to begin," he couldn't contain his laughter as he left his small gift at the front door, then rang the mansion's doorbell again. He was eager for the next chapters he hoped to see. His anticipation and delight reflected in a mischievous smile as he awaited the show that would unfold in this altered reality.
Hello once again! I'm KaleidoMirror, and I bid farewell after sharing the thrilling prologue of this new saga titled "Echo of the Seasons," specifically called "Last Stardust (Origin)."
The initial inspiration that guided me has resulted in subsequent chapters already prepared. I find this saga the most fluid to write for me, as it has allowed me to explore ideas that I had previously laid out but, due to certain limitations, couldn't fully develop. However, everything will depend on how the plot evolves.
For now, I sincerely hope you've enjoyed this initial installment. I'm eager to meet you in the next chapter and share more of this exciting story with you! See you soon!
