Chapter 3
"So, um, about that Tom thing", Fitz looked down at his foot tapping his Hoka sneakers onto the tile floor, "my name is Fitzgerald Grant, not Tom. I didn't mean to lie to you in any way, I just didn't want you to know who I really was."
Olivia's eyes never left his. She could tell he was being as sincere as he could with his words. She looked at his hands, behind his back, in his jean pockets and heard him clear his throat after he said the words. She was about to speak back, but she heard her name being called.
Turning to see what DC was doing and why he couldn't tend to whatever was needed, she saw him speaking to Mrs. Nielson. Mrs. Nielson needed one on one attention, so Olivia turned to where she was being called.
"Liv, can you come here a second?" Malcolm was waving her over to the Guthman family part of the room.
Looking at Nathaniel, Liv turned to Fitz. "Could you?" she handed Nathaniel to Fitz. His hands bolted out of his back pockets, because he didn't have a chance to refuse like he wanted to, he grabbed the young boy as Olivia just dropped him in his arms. "Show Fitzgerald", Liv began speaking to Nathaniel.
"Fitz" Fitz said interrupting. "And I'm not really comf…."
"Show Fitz your Lego blocks, ok." Liv ignored Fitz's rebuttal. "I have to go help Siena over there."
Nathaniel nodded. "Siena is my friend."
Fitz watched Liv walk away before he could refuse once again to watch the boy. He didn't know the first thing about children. Fitz looked at Nathaniel. "Hello, so you like blocks?" Fitz watched as the boy looked at him confused.
Then Nathaniel looked at Fitz and smiled. "Yes, and Olivia likes my blocks. This is a pattern." He pointed to each block. "You know what that is?"
"Of course I know what that is…" Fitz stopped, he didn't want to be mean to the little guy. "I mean, I think I know what that is, can you explain?"
When Liv reached Malcolm, she looked over to see the interaction with Fitz and Nathaniel. "Malcolm." Liv tapped his shoulder. "Get a picture of that interaction over there. Do it from here so he doesn't know you're taking the picture." Liv turned to help Siena and her mother.
Liv could hear Siena's voice, but she didn't understand a word being said. Her focus was on the interaction with Fitz and Nathaniel. "Bad boy, my butt, Fitz, you're no bad boy." Liv smiled.
"Huh?" Siena said. "Olivia, mommy wants to know not me."
"Sorry, Mrs. Guthman. More blankets? Sure, I'll send some over in a minute." Liv rubbed Siena's face. "You get some sleep beautiful, ok."
Malcolm stopped Liv before she headed back to finish her talk with Fitz. "How's this Liv?" He held the camera screen to her.
There were about 10 pictures in all, and they all showed a gentle person holding a young boy, talking about Legos, smiling at the interaction they were having. Liv smirked. "Those are perfect Malcolm, could you email them to me please? See, that's being discreet."
"Sure thing, Liv, but you know who that is right?" Malcolm said nodding at Fitz.
"Who is it, Malcolm?"
"That's Grizzly Grant. Got his nickname for always growling at people, especially people that work for him." Malcolm laughed.
Liv crossed her arms now and looked sternly at Malcolm. "Ever hear him growl at you? Ever see him treat people like that?" Liv waited for an answer.
"Umm, no, but once I was taking pictures at a sweet sixteen, he was attending. I think the girl was a friend of his family and he was in a shouting match with someone from the catering staff." Malcolm shrugged.
"Did the caterer do something to him or did Grizzly Grant just walk up and start growling? If you don't know the whole story Malcolm don't share one side. That's how bad reputations begin, you see?"
Malcolm shrugged, shaking his head in agreement. "I see, Liv, just wonder why he's here at all. I mean he is far away from his house over on the hills you know. That's not just a story I heard; I've seen his side of town."
"And is it illegal for him to be here? We could use as much help as we can. Look at your pictures. Does that look like a man who isn't ready to help?"
"Nathaniel does seem to like him." Malcolm turned to DC calling his name. "I guess the real test will be Emmie, if she gets to meet him." Malcolm held up the camera to Liv. "I'll email them to you in an hour Liv, see you later."
Liv licked her lips and walked over towards Fitz who had just set Nathaniel down, handing him his blocks. "It was nice meeting you Nathaniel."
"Bye Fitz, remember, red, blue, red, blue, that's a pattern. Good night, Olivia." Nathaniel ran over to his mother who was on a cot waiting for him.
Keeping her eyes on Fitz, Liv saw Fitz made sure Nathaniel made it to his mother. Fitz turned back towards Liv.
"Anyway," Fitz said again. "The reason I came back here was to."
"Olivia dear, can you come over for just a moment please?" Liv heard Emmie's sweet old voice calling to
her. Emmie was 73 years young, cooked for the food pantry, and was wiser than anyone Olivia had ever met. She also held nothing back when it came to her opinion. Liv turned and looked back at Fitz who seemed very agitated at this point.
"Can you ask her to wait just a minute?" Fitz pleaded.
"Come on over with me, I'd love for you to meet Emmeline, Emmie for short. Call her Emmie at first and she'll be impressed."
Liv turned to walk away figuring Fitz would follow, but she heard him begin to say something.
"Aww, Olivia…"
"Liv, not Olivia…" She took his hand and swiftly began walking towards Emmie who was sitting up on her cot smiling as they approached. He could've stopped, but he didn't and Liv had to smile to herself.
Grinding his teeth, Fitz said in a whisper. "I'm not an elderly people person, Liv." But it didn't help, Liv was standing by Emmie now.
"Liv, I haven't seen you in a week, how is the book coming along?"
"It's good Emmie, dad sent it to the publisher, and we are just waiting for word. It's exciting this may be the one." Liv put her shoulders up smiling.
Emmie wanted to stand, she held her hand up for Fitz to grab, but he just looked at her. Liv, unbeknownst to Emmie, gave Fitz an elbow. Knowing her hearing wasn't the best and Emmie wouldn't hear, she said "could you help her, please?" in a whisper.
Fitz blinked himself back to reality. He was too lost the bolt his body had just taken when Olivia had grabbed his hand. "Sorry, ma'am, I didn't…." Fitz's hand went under Emmie's elbow and he gently held her hand to the upright position.
"Thank you, you're very attractive you know, but please call me Emmie, everyone does." She saw Fitz begin to blush.
"Oh, Liv, he's a keeper." She smiled. "Anyway, I have no doubt this book will be the one, I read the draft. Your father gave me a copy. You give me that publisher's name, if there's a problem, I'll fix it."
Liv laughed. "Thank you now why did you call me over?"
"I wanted to know who this visitor was, I like meeting the new volunteers, and this one caught my eye. I also wanted to give you this." Emmie handed Liv a piece of paper. Liv didn't have to look at it to know it was a list of grocery items Emmie needed to stock up the kitchen to cook. "Your name is?" She looked curiously at Fitz.
"Careful, get it right this time." Liv smiled.
"My name is Fitz." He said, "nice to meet you." He turned back to Liv and took a deep breath. "Livvie can we talk?"
"Ooh, he has a nickname for you too, ok, I won't hold you up any longer, Livvie, go talk to your man." When Emmie said Livvie, she said it in a cute kind of way and rolling her eyes with a blink.
Fitz smiled, said thank you and began heading to the door. He saw DC standing there and had a feeling he still wouldn't get to tell Olivia what he wanted to say. Fitz's eyes closed and he just shook his head, she really was loved and well liked, and he couldn't imagine being a person like that.
Emmie grabbed Liv's hand before she walked away. "He really likes you Olivia, I can see the sparkle in his eyes. What a nice man he is, too." Emmie gave her hand a pat and set herself back into her cot.
Emmie had recently lost her home; Social Security had cut her benefits unexpectedly. She was looking for a small place and until then, Liv's father had been paying her a bit here and there for cooking. She wouldn't be at the shelter long, but she had always been a grandmother figure for Liv and her instincts were never wrong.
"I thought the same thing, Emmie, about him being a nice man. Many others don't seem to think so."
Emmie waved her hand, "oh who cares what they think, it's what you think that matters."
Liv jogged a bit to catch up to Fitz who was approaching DC. Liv felt there may be a confrontation there, so she wanted to get to it before it happened.
"Liv." DC began. "I have a problem with Mrs. Nielson. I won't be done for at least another half hour. Stick around, I'll give you that ride home."
"It's fine, DC, no worries." Liv said. "I'll wait."
Fitz's head turned quickly to Liv "I can drive you." He stopped before he finished, what did he just say. "I mean, umm, do you need a ride?"
"I'd love that, thank you, Fitz, but I have to make a stop, so I don't want to inconvenience you." Liv smiled.
"Inconvenience? With the favor you did for me today, I owe you one, it's fine."
"What favor?" But Liv's head turned to DC who was just a bit loud.
"Come on Liv, don't be like that, just give me twenty minutes, you're not getting back in a car with…"
"With who?" Fitz leaned closer to DC. "You have a problem with me?"
"Me and about half the state." DC said mumbling.
"Hey." Liv looked at DC. "I said it was fine. Go call my father and tell him. You two can chat it up." With that she interlocked her arm again with Fitz's. "Come on, I'll hear all about that favor in the car."
As the door to the shelter closed, Fitz walked with Liv to the car. "Ramzi, he was a life saver, well an event saver, and he spoke very highly of you. That's why I had to come back to thank you personally."
Fitz opened the front door for her and waited for her to get in. "You sure you want me in the front this time?"
Fitz gave a smile, "I'd very much like for you to be in the front."
"Then in that case, thank you for opening the door." Liv climbed into the car. She saw a tag hanging from the radio dial.
As Fitz climbed in Liv turned her head with her eyebrows crossed reading the tag that was hanging. "Who is Felix?" Liv said pointed to the ID that was up. "Don't tell me it's another alias."
Fitz bit his top lip, not wanting to tell another lie, and in a bit of an embarrassed voice said, "no he was my former driver. I wasn't very nice to him."
"Have you apologized?" Liv waited for an answer.
"For what? He walked out on the job."
"Well, because you weren't very nice to him, you just said that yourself."
"But you don't just walk out on a job. That means you lose the job."
"So, now Felix doesn't have a job? Does he have a family?"
"Yeah, but he wasn't thinking about his family when he walked out of the job, was he now?"
"Maybe he was and wanted to be respected, so he thought he could find something better."
"Trust me, he won't."
"He won't? I need a driver. Maybe I will call him, and then he will have a job again." Liv began to dial a number.
"Wait, who are you calling?"
"My dad, he does the hiring. I am going to give him Felix's name."
"You can't do that."
"Why, the man is going to need a job."
"Yeah, but he works for me."
"You just said he walked out of the job. He can have me now as an employer."
"No, wait, don't call your dad. I'll call Felix and tell him to come back to the job." What the hell? Fitz are you out of your mind he said to himself.
"You will?" Liv smiled. "Awesome, but will you apologize?"
"I'll apologize." Fitz rubbed his hand down his face. This woman was impossible, but he didn't know who he was when he was with her. "Put your seatbelt on."
"No, you have a call to make."
"NOW?"
"Yes, now, I'd like to hear Felix's happiness when he gets his job back. Feel good stories like this are so fun."
Fitz shook his head mimicking her inside, but not out loud. He took his phone and took a deep breath. Before he dialed, he looked back at Liv. "Look, can I just call him tomorrow, his two kids are.."
"TWO KIDS? And you weren't going to give him his job back?"
"He walked out!" Fitz said a bit loudly.
Liv tilted her head and looked at him, "because you were mean, it's cause and effect."
Fitz breathed through his teeth. Felix's phone rang once, twice, and on the third ring, Felix picked up, yelling profanities at Fitz in Spanish.
"CAMATE" Fitz yelled. "Por Favor, Felix, me Siento." Fitz said calmer now.
"My wife is crying, I'm unemployed." Felix was saying.
"You're not unemployed. Take the next three days off, spend time with your wife, then please come take your job back."
"No eres un malvado."
"I won't be mean anymore." Fitz blinked, shaking his head.
"Tres dias?'
"Si"
"Ok, Thank you senor Grant."
"De nada." Fitz hung up the phone and turned to Liv. "Happy now?"
"Happy now. You'll be happy too." Liv put her seat belt on. "First stop, Grand Marshalls."
"Grand Marshalls? Like the shopping place? Why?" Fitz couldn't believe this.
"I have to pick up groceries for Emmie. She cooks for the food bank and she's short on supply for breakfast in the morning."
"So, why do you have to do the shopping, isn't there someone else who can do it?"
"Well, we normally have a delivery, but the truck is stuck waiting for new brakes, so I get to shop."
"This is the stop we had to make?" Fitz couldn't believe this, maybe he could sit in the car and just wait for her. That's what he would do, no, not maybe, he WOULD do it. One thing Olivia Pope would not get him to do was to shop in a grocery store.
On the way there, his car phone began to ring. "Justin, what?" Fitz answered the phone. He glanced over at Liv, cleared his throat and said, "What can I do for you?"
"Guests are arriving, just wanted you to know, everything is going fine, no problems with the pipes. I wanted to give you Olivia Pope's number in case you maybe wanted to thank her yourself before you gave me the directive to do it."
"Justin, you don't have to call me with every minor detail, and just text the number, I'll get to it." Fitz looked over at Olivia with a shrug.
"Uh, one more thing." Justin said.
"What, your shoelace is untied?" Fitz asked.
"No, Mr. Dyson said he expects to see you here personally, he wasn't happy you texted him last minute you weren't going to be in attendance. He expects to see you here, you know your dad is here too."
Fitz took a long, frustrated breath now. "Yes, I know my dad is there, so is my mom, she's his date, imagine that. Tell Dyson I'll get there before the last dance, I'm doing some things." Fitz hung up before Justin said anything more annoying.
"If you have to go Fitz, I understand. That's a high profile wedding. I've heard talk about it. So, you own the hall where it's at? I had my best friend's baby shower there this morning."
"Yes, Justin mentioned that. I was surprised when he told me you were the one who referred Ramzi. The guy wouldn't take a payment, only wanted food for him and his wife."
"He was hard on his luck for many years. Food is much more important than money in some circumstances."
Fitz shrugged. "I guess you can say that. And, no, I don't have to go. Get what you need from here." He pointed moving his hand up and down towards the building Fitz had just pulled in front of.
"You're coming in, right?"
"Not a chance. I've never been in a grocery store; I don't plan on going in one now."
Liv wasn't going to try to convince him this time. "Ok, fair enough. I'll text you when I'm done." She went to open the door.
"Wait." Fitz stopped her and jumped out. He ran to her side and opened the door for her. He took her hand and guided her out.
"Thank you, Fitz." Liv smiled as she walked towards the entrance.
Fitz got back in the driver's seat. He put both his hands on his face. "What the hell?" He rubbed his eyes. Guilt was overtaking him. He looked at the store. She was in there for Nathaniel and for Emmie and for Buzzy. Why were these people in Fitz's thoughts?
He parked the car in a spot and grunted. He looked again into the big store and got out of his car. He was acting like a four year old that didn't get his toy walking towards the store, kicking a rock in the lot. "I can't believe I'm in a place like this." He said out loud.
"You're in a good area of town, sir. The bad area is just up the road a bit, Garfield Avenue." The employee who said it continued on his way.
While Fitz was contemplating coming into the store, Liv's phone came through with an email notification. "How's this for discreet Liv? Ha, I'm on my way to that photography degree." Malcolm had sent a few attachments and Liv grew wide eyed when she saw them.
"Oh my Gosh," she whispered covering her mouth. She was staring at the pictures of Fitz with Nathaniel, Liv and Fitz holding hands, and Fitz's interaction with Emmie. She took a happy breath and sent a response. "Good work Kid, I'm proud of you." Liv knew exactly what she was going to do with those pictures, at least she thought she did.
Her phone began to ring before she could even put it away. "Olivia, where are you?" Her father's voice was stern, angry, but Liv wasn't tolerating it, she wasn't 8 anymore.
"Dad, I'm at Grand Marshalls, apparently you messed up a bit and Emmie is short on breakfast supplies. I'll pick up the things, but you're getting it to her in the morning."
"Who are you with?" Eli ignored her request and asked the question.
"I believe DC told you his name, you know who drove me here, doesn't mean I'm with him." Liv said, which wasn't completely a lie.
"Liv, I researched this guy after DC told me who he was. He lied about who he was to you, he took you in his car when he knew he wasn't your driver, and."
"I got into that car all on my own. I can't help it that you didn't specify what black town car it was. Don't put this on him. DC has past reservations about him based on rumors, just like you have by doing a google search. You're better than that dad. I have to get these things."
"Liv, this could ruin your chances…."
"At what? Geez, I'm not marrying him tomorrow. He gave me a ride, which he didn't have to do, then he drove me here, again which he didn't have to do. He also took care of Ramzi and his wife with some food, so really how bad is this guy?"
Silence, just a deep breath, signaling her father knew he lost this round. "I love you dad, I'll be home later." She didn't give him a chance to respond and she pushed the cart down the aisle.
Fitz hid back, hearing her on the phone, and he froze. He never heard anyone defend him like that. Even his parents believed the bad side before ever talking to him. He just watched her as she put some items in her cart, then he followed, watching her again down the next aisle.
Liv looked around and then up to the top shelf. The box was all the way in the back. She looked around for some help, but of course no one was around. "I hate being short." She blew out her bottom lip and began to do the very thing she was told not to do since she was six, climb the shelf.
Fitz jogged over, seeing her step up and was going to reach for the box. She heard the footsteps coming down the aisle, turned mid step and began to fall backwards. Liv did indeed fall, right into his arms and her back went onto his forearm as she looked at his blue, nervous eyes, then she looked at his lips, and her heart began to beat a bit faster.
Her breath paused for a moment. "Thanks for catching me." Then she rolled her eyes, how dumb did that sound?
Fitz couldn't move his arms, no he wouldn't move his arms. He just looked back at her gorgeous brown eyes, losing himself in them, then saw as her eyes took aim at his lips. His head went back, as he took a deep swallow to get his breathing back to normal.
He lifted her back upright. "Are you ok? You shouldn't climb on things like that." Then he closed his eyes and shook his head, what was he, her grandfather with that statement.
"Here, let me get it. You want the red box or the blue one."
Liv's stomach was still fluttering, and she looked. "Uh, the bread."
"Bread?" Fitz asked. "This is pancake mix." He said as he read the box, "not bread."
Liv began to laugh. "I meant to say red, but it started as blue, then I…just, the red box." She blew out a long breath. "Why are you in here anyway. I thought a grocery store wasn't your thing?"
"I just wanted to make sure no one was throwing bottles or anything like that." Fitz smirked. "Come on, let me help you finish up."
"Because you have to get to that event?" Liv was sure.
"No, because I want to help you out, if I get there, I get there." Fitz pushed the cart now as Liv smiled and began loading more items in there, Fitz helping with the harder to reach things.
"The fuck you doing here, Fitz?" Fitz's eyes closed in dread as he heard Jeremy behind him.
He tight lipped and turned around. "Watch your language. Jeremy this is Olivia Pope, Olivia Pope, Jeremy Drester, my assistant." He gave Jeremy the biggest threat stare that read tell her I asked you to look her up and you're an unemployed dead man.
"No shit." Jeremy answered. "You the writer. Yeah, cool, nice to meet you. How did you get Fitz in a grocery store?"
Liv shrugged, "it was all him, I had nothing to do with it. He's helping me pick up items for the food pantry."
"Wow, interesting for sure." Jeremy licked his lips, knowing he was stepping into deep water if he didn't shut up. "Ok, well I just stopped in to get the necessities for a Saturday night, you know, beer, condoms, and…."
"See you on Monday Jeremy." Fitz pushed his shoulder for him to go.
"Hey, Fitz, why aren't you at the wedding, it was on your schedule for tonight."
"As usual your incompetence is showing. Maybe a demotion is needed and I'll up Gloria to your position, I responded no, so you don't know what you're talking about."
"Yeah, but Raquel called and said to put her down as her plus one, didn't she tell you."
"Maybe you were supposed to tell me, in which case the answer still would have been no. Now, go put your condom around your thinking piece and let your hand do the gliding. You don't need protection for your hand, you know."
"Bye Olivia Pope." Jeremey smirked.
"Interesting assistant." Olivia began towards the checkout line.
"He is the son of my father's lawyer and he was given the job to assist me. He's useless, honestly, but I can't Felix him, if you know what I mean. Sorry if he offended you."
"Wrong person, I'm not easily offended. So who's Raquel?"
"Nobody."
"$155.76", the cashier's voice stopped the conversation. Liv went in for her wallet, but Fitz had already swiped his card and was accepting the receipt before Liv could even grab it.
"Fitz, you didn't have to pay. Give me the receipt, the food pantry will pay you back."
Fitz put the receipt into his back pocket. "Consider it a thank you, compliments of Ramzi."
Making sure Liv was in the car, Fitz put all the things in the trunk, ignoring the suit he had in the bag, he knew all along he was supposed to go that wedding, but he met Olivia Pope, and things changed.
Before closing the trunk he sent a text to Jeremy. "If it is leaked I was grocery shopping, you will lose your job. My personal life is none of your business."
As quickly as it was sent, one was received. "Until you want me to do the digging for it, right, screw you Fitz, I can bury you with this."
He pounded the trunk as it closed. "Jeremy, this is your final warning."
"Chill it Boss, you're secret life is safe with me."
Fitz got into the car with Olivia looking at him. "You ok? You hit the trunk hard."
"Just making sure it was closed."
Fitz's phone began to ring just before he set up the Bluetooth. "Excuse me, Livvie, I need to take this." He stepped out of the car, walking a good distance from it.
"Son why aren't you at this wedding. Dyson is fuming."
"Is his daughter there?"
"What kind of question is that? Of course his daughter is here, she's the bride."
"Then why is he mad that I'm not there?"
"Because he gave the publicity of your place being used for the function. I suggest you get your ass here, son. What kind of trouble are you getting yourself into that you're not here?"
"I'm not getting into any trouble; I have a life outside of banquet hall ownership."
"Not when it's the CEO of the largest bank chain in the country. How long before you get here?"
"Dad, I'm no where near home, and I am not dressed for a wedding, so."
"So, you were working on problems at another hall, that's your story, but you're stopping here as a courtesy. I'll see you in no less than a half hour." With that, Gerry hung up.
Fitz got back in the car, just very quiet. "Where to now, Ms. Pope?" Fitz just stared out the windshield into the darkening night.
"I believe the destination is FTG Banquet Hall if I'm not mistaken." Liv looked at him as he turned towards her.
"I'm not going there, there's media everywhere and they're already speculating where I may be, making assumptions about me. My father thinks I'm just causing trouble, just forget it, where to?"
Liv crossed her arms. "Fitz, drive to the hall, it'll be fine." She tried to encourage him. The last thing she wanted was for him to take slack when he was being a nice guy, staying out of trouble.
"You're impossible, did anyone ever tell you that?"
"Well, you just did." She smiled.
Liv fiddled with her phone, not paying much attention to his driving. When she heard him give a small moan, she looked up. Planted outside the entrance to hall were dozens of cameras, just taking pictures of anyone coming in and out of the venue.
Fitz did a quick left turn, and got to the service entrance to the hall. He picked up his phone and texted Justin. "I'm coming through the service entrance, no one knows I'm entering, is that clear?"
Raquel looked down at Justin's phone as he asked her to hold it as he completed the electric slide on the dance floor. She deleted the text and handed the phone back to Justin. "Potty break." She squinted with her drunk eyes as she walked away.
"Hey, you." She called over two cameramen. One was a news one with an anchor, the other a photographer. "Rumor has it bad boy Grant is coming in through the service entrance, a story if you find out where he was, why he's late, and what he was doing, don't you think?"
Raquel turned towards the service entrance, she couldn't wait for this to unfold. She saw the town car across from the entrance and Fitz began to come out, but stopped as he saw the cameras approaching. "Fuck." He turned to Liv. "Please, just stay in the car, don't get mixed up in this."
Fitz jumped out, and without two steps opened the service door and almost knocked a drunk Raquel on her ass. "Move, please."
"You stood me up."
"I never said I would come here with you."
"I'll go out and tell them right now how you stood me up. You know who my father is, if it's leaked you stood me up…"
"Raquel, you have no idea..just let me pass."
"You're dressed horrible by the way."
"Compliment coming from you." Fitz brushed her aside.
Because of the tinted windows, no one knew Liv was in the car. She heard the chatter outside though. Although Fitz asked her to stay in the car, she was never one to follow orders, just ask her father. He had to double up on his blood pressure medication because of it.
"Fitzgerald Grant, son of prominent developer Big Gerry Grant, has just arrived TWO HOURS late to the wedding of Colony Bank's CEO daughter Melissa Dyson. No doubt by the way Big Gerry's son was dressed, looking out of sorts, he has been on one of his bad boy runs. It is to note, not only was he late, he arrived through the service entrance and he was dateless, something we haven't seen in a long time. Stay tuned for more."
Raquel opened the door ready to tell them all about Fitz and his tirade he just had on her. She was supposed to arrive arm in arm with him, but he had been drinking and avoiding it, now he was inside causing scene and ruining the young bride and groom's wedding.
Before she could take another step, the reporters noticed the driver's side opening and a beautiful woman stepping out. The light of the camera turned on, shining in Olivia's face. Liv held her hand up and squinted at the light.
"Ma'am, were you with Mr. Grant tonight? Are you the reason he's late? Are you his date to the wedding? Has he been detained by police?"
"My goodness, so many questions at once. Give me a second." She glanced down at her phone. "There." Olivia pointed. "He's my associate, Malcolm. He has proof as to where Mr. Grant was all night. Stop judging so much, and for the love of God, turn the damn light off on that camera."
The reporters from out front, along with the two by Liv rushed to Malcolm, and Raquel felt a bump as Fitz walked passed her and put his hand on Liv's back. He noticed no reporters, no cameras were in sight. This time Liv jumped into the driver's seat and Fitz just stared at her.
"Get out the car Olivia, I'm driving."
"Get in the car, Fitz, I'll drive this time."
Fitz saw Raquel approaching and it became a choice to get in the car or face the approaching pain in the ass. Once the passenger car door closed, Liv drove right passed the reporters as Fitz looked over in shock seeing Malcolm giving them an earful.
"Now I have some explaining to do." Liv said as she drove towards her house.
