Disclaimer: I do not own Bluey or The Hobbit, only how the story goes. Everything from Bluey belongs to Ludo Studios and The Hobbit belongs to J.R.R. Tolkien. The only thing that I do own are the OC's of the story. I apologize for any errors in grammar and/or if I was not accurate in reference to something.

A/N: Chapter 1 could be a continuation of the prologue in a way. This chapter may be much shorter than the first and the next, but to be fair, I am doing something very different with this story.

Chapter One: Arriving Friends and Family

The three friends seem quite content with what had been written down. They all looked over the words a bit to make sure that everything was all right. Mort nodded to the book, "Not a bad start."

"Though it did take a bit of time." Robert quietly cut in. Gesturing to the window with a small motion of his head, "Sun looks like it's been up for a little while now."

They all looked to see that the sun had indeed risen over the horizon. With a grin, Bilbo just shook his head. Robert then suggested, "Well, let's get a little more of this book done. Frodo will be waking up soon and our family will be here not too much longer."

"You did remember to leave a note, right?" Mort asked his friend. That caused Robert to pause for a moment. They turned to the Blue Heeler with questioning looks. Robert noticed and became a little offended by this and pointed at the Hobbit, "Hey, it's not as bad as you for not leaving one out, remember."

"Well, he's got a point there." Bilbo agreed as he turned back to the book in front of him. The three began to get back to work on their book as Mort and Robert looked over the Hobbit's shoulders. Bilbo then started to write again as he said, "Our tale began…

"Well, it began as you might expect." He said while dipping the quill in the ink again. Robert chuckled when he said, "In a place that seemed unlikely."

"In a hole in the ground…" Mort added while Bilbo wrote it down. The two Dog-men looked about and the Red Heeler complimented, "Thankfully, it's quite a nice place. Not dirty or nasty."

"Yeah, not one that's got disgusting worms and oozy smells. Especially from the dunny." Robert chuckled again. But when he started to get too loud, Mort and Bilbo shushed him to keep it down. The old Blue Heeler gave an apologetic look before Bilbo continued, "This was a Hobbit hole. And that means, good food, a warm hearth and all the comforts of home."

"A place that just about everyone can relax." Mort nodded. Robert wrapped an arm around them and said with a whisper, "And have some great parties."

That caused all three to start chuckling amongst themselves again. In another room, another Hobbit walked out. This one was much younger than Bilbo, wearing a greet shirt with long sleeves and dark pants supported by suspenders. Frodo Baggins walked into the pantry before coming back out with an apple in his hands. He looked over in the direction of Bilbo's study and could hear his uncle working as he muttered to himself. Frodo then heard a couple of other voices and new that someone was with Bilbo. Deciding to meet with them in a bit, Frodo turned to go down the hall. He walked through the home all the way to the front door.

A bit out from the Hobbit hole where Bilbo, Mort, Robert and Frodo were, a family of canines were making their way down the path. A group of eleven Dog-men walked down the path through Hobbiton. At the front of the group was a small young female Blue Heeler and a young female Red Heeler. Standing behind them were their mother and father, a male Blue Heeler and a female Red Heeler. Walking on the family of four's left were a trio of two Blue Heelers and one Red Heeler. The male Blue Heeler walking between the two females had a mixed coat of blue and red with a head of hair large and bushy as the female Red Heeler's. The older Blue Heeler standing next to her son held a few small packages in her arms. On the other side of the family of four, another family of four were walking by. All four of them consisted of Blue Heelers, though two of the four had white coats instead of the dark blue. The older Blue Heeler held the younger one in his arms while the white furred Heeler walked alongside her cousins.

As they walked along the trail, the older female Blue Heeler said, "I hope we get there soon."

"Don't worry, Ma. We'll be there soon." Bandit, the Blue Heeler male in the middle said with a grin. The male Blue Heeler with the drooping ear, Stripe said, "Still can't believe that they left without leaving a note."

"Oh, they've been that way since they were lads." The older female Blue Heeler, Christine, said. Bluey, the young female Blue Heeler at the front asked, "I'm so excited to see Uncle Bilbo and Frodo again."

"Me too." Her younger sister Bingo agreed as they continued to walk. The red female Heeler with the long hair spoke up, "Do you think Frodo and Bilbo will like me, Radley?"

"Oh, they're gonna love you, Frisky." The multicolored Heeler said and wrapped an arm around her. She seemed a little unsure when she said, "I've just never met a Hobbit before."

"Well, Frodo and Bilbo are some of the best ones that you'll ever meet." The adult white furred Blue Heeler assured her. Her husband's mood changed when he less excitedly said, "Yeah, it's those cousins of theirs that you have to be wary about."

"Yeah." Just about everyone agreed with half-lidded eyes. Though Frisky didn't really know what they meant, she thought it best to just take their word for it. The Red Heeler in the middle asked her daughters, "Remember to be on your best behaviors when we get there. Okay, girls?"

"Yes, Mum." Both Bluey and Bingo said unison. The white furred Heeler, looked to her daughters and asked, "Same with you two, okay?"

"Yes, Mum." Her oldest, Muffin said while her younger sister Socks nodded. Bluey then said to them, "How many do you think will show up to the party?"

"Well, if there are replies to the invitations, then it's liable to be a crowd." Bandit guessed with a shrug. The family of Dog-men continued on through the Shire to where their friends and family are.

Opening the front door of Bag End, Frodo stepped out into the Shire and looked about the world around him. He could see a few Hobbits moving around down the hill. A small smile grew on his face and he carefully made his way down the steps to the fence before his and his uncle's home. Opening the gate, Frodo moved to the front of the mailbox sitting on the fence. Placing the apple in his mouth, he freed his hand and opened the mailbox up. He took out a load of envelopes and closed it again. Taking a quick look to see what it was, Frodo then moved back through the gate and closed it behind him. The young Hobbit made his way back into his home and shut the door behind him.

As Frodo was making his way back towards his uncle's study, both Mort and Robert's ears twitched. The latter glanced back to where the sound was coming from. Turning his head back to the other two he quietly said with a mischievous grin, "Let's give the lad a small surprise, eh?"

"You know that that always ends up in disaster." Mort shook his head while also keeping his voice down. Then he gestured between the two of them, "For us, mostly."

"And you tend to end up looking like those two friends of Frodo's, Merry and Pippin." Bilbo added while not looking away from his writing. Robert waved them off and said, "Well, I'm gonna do it."

Before either of them could attempt to stop him if they wanted to, the Blue Heeler quietly yet quickly made his way out of the study. He walked through one of the other doors in the room. Bilbo and Mort glanced to each other for a moment before looking to where the second Heeler had gone. But it seemed that Frodo was taking forever in getting to the room. Robert soon came out of the room and stuck his head out into the hall. When it was apparent that he hadn't seen anything, he turned back to the other two in the study and scratched the back of his neck, "Where could the lad be?"

"I'm right here, Uncle Robert." Frodo said from behind the Dog-man. The sudden appearance caused Robert to gasp with fright and he backed away from the young Hobbit. He started to tip over and both Frodo and Mort moved to keep from falling. Mort supported him from behind while Frodo grabbed his paw. When they righted him, Frodo then asked the bipedal canine, "Are you all right?"

"Yeah, I'll be fine." Robert nodded and took a breath to calm himself. The sight made the three of them chuckle. Then pointing to what the young Hobbit was holding he asked, "What do you have there, Frodo?"

"Oh, these are for Bilbo, actually." Frodo said and moved to place them on the study. Seeing that his nephew was walking up, Bilbo stopped what he was doing. Frodo placed the envelopes and his uncle said, "Thank you."

"What's all this?" Frodo asked when he picked up the portrait of his uncles. Bilbo grabbed it away from him and said, "That is private. Keep your sticky paws off."

"You know how he can get about his things, Frodo." Mort shrugged, earning a small look from his friend. Frodo started to look at the book and reached to turn the page. But Bilbo beat him to it by shutting it. He glanced to his nephew and said, "It's not ready yet."

"Not ready for what?" Frodo asked with a chuckle and turned to walk out of the room. Bilbo glanced back when he said, "Reading."

"We've only managed to get a good bit written in there." Robert said as Frodo walked out of the room and up to the open chest in the hall. He removed a helmet from the chest and looked at it. In the study, Bilbo looked at the envelopes and asked, "What on earth are these?"

"Quite a number of them." Robert said and took a few from Bilbo. Frodo walked back in and said, "Those are replies to the party invitations"

"Good gracious." Bilbo asked and got up from his chair. He turned and a grin grew on his face, "Is it today?"

"Well, you should know." Mort reminded. Gesturing to the Hobbit with his paw he said, "You are the one who paid for it all."

"Yes, yes. I know." Bilbo chuckled with a wave of his hand. They all looked to Frodo when the young Hobbit said, "They all say they're coming.

"Except for the Sackville-Bagginses…" He told them while putting the helmet back in the chest. He looked to them again he said, "Who are demanding that you ask them in person."

"Ugh, Sackville-Bagginses." Mort shook his head with slight disdain while looking to Robert. The Blue Heeler rolled his eyes in agreement. Bilbo walked out of the room and sarcastically said, "Oh, are they, indeed?

"Over my dead body." He added while walking out of the room. A small grin was on his nephew's face when Frodo said, "They'd probably find that quite agreeable.

"They all seem to think you have tunnels overflowing with gold." He said while Bilbo started putting things away. His uncle looked back when he corrected, "It was one small chest. Hardly overflowing."

"It's a lot bigger than what your idea of small is, Bilbo." Mort disagreed with a grin as he and Robert joined Frodo outside the study. Bilbo started to leave before stopping and turning to them, "And it still smells of Troll."

"Yeah, that's a tough one to get out." Robert agreed while scratching the side of his head. They watched as Bilbo continued to put things away while indistinctly muttering to himself. This confused Frodo and he asked, "What on earth are you doing?"

"I'm getting a bit of an idea." Mort said while Bilbo placed some nice things in a bowl. He placed a lid on it as if to hide it. He looked back to his nephew and said, "Taking the necessary precautions."

"If the Sackville-Bagginses, especially a certain one, do show up, then I say that this will be necessary." Robert said while crossing his arms. Frodo looked between them, still a little lost on what they were talking about. They followed after Bilbo as he kept moving through the house and said, "You know, the three of us caught her making off with the silverware once."

"Oh, yeah. It made me think that something might have been wrong with her leg." Robert seemed to recall, earning a chuckle from Mort. Frodo looked between them and asked, "Who are you all talking about now?"

"Lobelia Sackville-Baggins." Bilbo, Mort and Robert all said at the same time as the Hobbit walked in front of them. The Red Heeler pointed to Bilbo, "She had all of his spoons stuffed in her pocket. Ha!"

"She can be a dreadful woman." Robert said, earning some agreement from his friends. They all joined Bilbo in another room as the older Hobbit continued to put things away. He slowed down a bit as he said, "Make sure that you, and perhaps when you have Bandit and the girls over, keep an eye on her after I'm…

"When I'm… When I'm…" He said, slightly losing his train of thought. This made Mort and Robert look to each other with confused looks. Frodo noticed this too and asked, "When you're what?"

"It's nothing." Bilbo shook his head. Seeming to get his thoughts together, he walked off while saying, "Nothing."

"Is he okay?" Robert asked when he leaned to Frodo. The younger Hobbit gave a small shrug, "Bilbo seems to be doing that a lot. But he says that it's nothing to be concerned about."

That didn't really put their minds at ease, but both Dog-men pushed the thoughts away for the time being. The three moved to follow Bilbo and found him in a room much closer to the front door. Frodo walked in and said, "You know, some people are beginning to wonder about you, Uncle."

"Huh?" The older Hobbit asked and looked back to his nephew. Bilbo looked down to what he was looking at and Frodo told him, "They think you're becoming a bit odd."

"Odd?" Bilbo asked in confusion when he looked to Frodo. He gave a shrug as if not caring, "Oh. Hm."

"Unsociable." Frodo said, repeating what he had heard from other Hobbits. Mort chuckled, "Well, he's a lot less unsociable than when we first met him."

"Hardly ever wanting to walk out his front door." Robert agreed. Bilbo scoffed to what they were saying, "Oh, nonsense.

"You two don't know what you're talking about." He chuckled and picked something up. Turning to Frodo he asked as he handed some paper to his nephew, "Be a good lad and put that on the gate."

Frodo took it from him before moving to look for a hammer and some nails. But just as he started walking, the front door to Bag End opened up. A group of young voices called out, "Frodo!"

"Girls!" Frodo exclaimed with a smile as he knelt down to all fours' level and they embraced. When they released each other, Bingo asked, "Are you ready for tonight, Frodo?"

"I sure am." Frodo nodded, his grin not faltering. Bluey noticed the sign in the Hobbit's hands and asked, "What's that for, Frodo?"

"Oh, Bilbo has asked me to put this up on the gate." He explained. The four young bipedal canines looked a little hopeful as Bluey asked, "Can we help you put it up?"

"Please?!" All four begged while giving him big please faces. This made Frodo laugh a bit before saying, "How can I say no when you give me that look.

"Help me find some nails so we can get started." He requested. They all cheered at being able to help out and they walked off to find the nails and a hammer. While they were gone, they heard a voice at the door, "Dad, are you there?"

"In here, Chili dog." Mort answered her. The rest of the family walked into the home and the three moved to greet them. Robert chuckled and teased, "What took you so long to get here?"

"You left earlier than the rest of us." Trixie pointed out. Then she added, "Plus, you didn't leave a note for us."

"Hm." Mort said while looking to his oldest friend. That just made Robert huff while Bilbo chuckled. Christine walked up to the Hobbit and extended the gifts to him, "Here. These are for you and Frodo."

"Oh, Christine, you didn't have to." Bilbo said as she handed them to him. With a smile he said, "I'll be sure to give Frodo his."

"I'm sure he'll like it." Frisky said, earning Bilbo's attention. His grin grew back and he said, "Why you must be Frisky."

"That I am." Frisky confirmed, feeling happy that this is going so well. Bilbo walked up to her, took her paws into her hands and said, "Bluey and Bingo told me and Frodo so much about you in their letters. And I must say that you are a very beautiful."

"Why thank you." Frisky said, feeling a little bashful. Bilbo looked to Radley and said, "I think the two of you will be quite happy together."

"Oh, Bilbo." Radley playfully groaned and rolled his eyes. They then turned to see Frodo and the girls walking out the door with the sign, a hammer, the nails and a book. The five of them walked out the door and Frodo shut it behind them. Bilbo looked to Chili and asked, "Have you heard from your sister lately?"

"She sent me a letter a few months ago." Chili nodded. She seemed to grow a little sad when she said, "I do wish that she would come to visit. She'd love the girls and Frodo."

"Aye, she would." Mort nodded in agreement. Robert then said, "Well, the day is still young and there's a lot to do."

"We better check on Frodo. Make sure that the girls aren't driving him crazy." Trixie teasingly said. That made Bilbo laugh, "Ha, them drive the lad crazy. Nonsense."

"Obviously you haven't spent an entire day with Muffin." Stripe jokingly said, earning a light nudge from his wife. All the adults made their way for the door.

Outside of Bag End, Bluey and Bingo helped Frodo by holding up the sign with their paws while he hammered in the nails. Standing before them Socks and Muffin watched with the older sibling of the two supervising when she said, "I think it wooks a wittwe cwooked, Fwodo."

"We've rearranged it two times already, Muffin." Bluey told her as Frodo finished nailing in the last one. He took a step back and said, "There we go."

"Does it look good?" Bingo asked as she and her older sister stepped away from the gate. Frodo then moved to stand with the girls. They all looked to it and he nodded, "Yeah, it looks great."

"I still think it wooks a cwooked." Muffin said while placing her paws on her hips. Frodo, Bluey, Bingo and Socks just rolled their eyes as the Hobbit had a grin on his face.

They looked up to the front door of Bag End as the older Hobbit and Dog-men stepped out. Bilbo, Robert and Mort were the last to walk out the door. They all stretched a bit before taking in a breath of fresh air. Down near the gate, Frodo, holding the book that Muffin had been holding onto for him, looked to his uncle and asked, "Do you think that he'll come?"

"Who?" Bilbo asked, not knowing to whom Frodo was referring to. Frodo had a small smile as he reminded, "Gandalf."

"Yay, Gandalf!" The Heeler girls cheered as they raised their paws. That caused some laughter amongst the Hobbits and older Dog-men. Bilbo knew that his old friend would come as he said, "He wouldn't miss a chance to let off his Whizpoppers."

"Plus, I hear he's gonna bring a big one." Radley said as he pumped a fist, sounding excited for the show. That seemed to excite his younger brothers and the little ones too. Mort nodded that it was true, "He'll give us quite a show, that's for sure."

"Right, then." Frodo nodded. Looking to Bluey and Bingo he said, "Come on, girls. We're off."

"Off to where?" Bilbo asked as the three started running. Frodo looked back and said, "Bluey, Bingo and I are going to the East-farthing Woods. We're going to surprise him on his way in."

"Well, if anyone can watch over our girls in those woods, it's Frodo." Mort complimented with a wink. Robert then told them, "Just be sure you're back in time for the party."

"We will." All three nodded. Bilbo then waved them off, "Well, off you go, then.

"You don't want to be late." He said as they rushed off. When they were gone, Bandit then said, "While they're gone, Radley, Frisky, Chili and I are going to help set up for the party."

"What about you, Stripe and Trixie, Love?" Robert asked his wife. Christine looked to her husband and said, "We're going to take Muffin and Socks to play with some of the children here in Hobbiton."

"That way you and Mort can continue to spend time with Bilbo." Stripe added while wrapping an arm around his wife. Muffin excitedly waved her arms as she excitedly said, "Come on, the day is wasting away."

Another round of laughs went through the grownups as Christine, Trixie and Stripe moved down to the gate. After exiting, they turned to the remaining family and waved with Stripe saying, "We'll see you all later at the party."

"See ya, Stripe." Bandit said as the four walked off. They watched them go for a moment until they were gone. Looking to his wife, his remaining brother and his brother's beloved, Bandit said, "Well, we better get down the hill to help out with the party."

"Oh, right-o." Frisky agreed and they started down the steps. When they were at the gate, Bandit and Chili looked to their respective fathers and Chili asked, "Will the three of you be alright by yourself?"

"Oh, don't you worry, Chili." Bilbo said with a grin. Wrapping an arm around his two canines friends he teasingly asked, "What kind of mischief can the three of us get into these days?"

That made the four younger Dog-men laugh. The two couples then walked out the gate and left the two Dogs and the Hobbit alone. Mort looked to Bilbo and asked, "You lads want to keep working on the book a bit?"

"I think I'd rather enjoy the sunshine of this beautiful day, if I'm honest." Robert said while looking out into the world. Bilbo then offered, "I've got some special leaves for the pipes."

"Ooh, any of the good stuff?" Mort asked and Bilbo nodded with a chuckle.

A few minutes later, the three friends were sitting on a bench outside of Bag End just behind the gate. They each had a pipe in their hands and were enjoying the leaves that burned within them. Mort removed his pipe and asked, "Think Frodo and the girls have reached the East-farthing Woods yet?"

"It's not that long of a walk." Robert shook his head. He grinned as he said, "It's not like they're going to be late or anything for Gandalf."

"Though he doesn't approve of being late." Bilbo cut in. He shook his head, "Oh, no."

"You had a few close calls yourself, didn't you?" Mort asked while pointing his pipe to the Hobbit. Bilbo smiled as he playfully asked, "Me? Late?

"I never was." He shook his head again. Pointing to himself he said, "Back in those days I was always on time. You could say that I was entirely respectable."

"And yet you always thought that nothing unexpected would ever happen." Robert cracked, thinking it funny. That made both Bilbo and Mort start laughing with him, finding what he said to be humorous. The three old friends then took in a breath from their pipes before letting out a smoke ring. They watched as the smoke rings floated up into the air.

AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY

Author's Note: I'm not entirely sure when I'll have the next chapter for this ready. I have some things to figure out for it. Plus, I'm going to be spending my time on DVM-Rescue so I'm done in time for the movie. But worry not, I will return to this delightful adventure and many others that I want to work on. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
