Chapter Two: A Bitter Shark
Elsewhere, Shark was currently looking over a few documents on the desk. The brother of the queen silently fumed from being denied. Though he wasn't thinking about himself, he was thinking about his only daughter, Moray. Shark knew that what his and Coral's mother had asked, that a queen would rule the Kingdom of the Sea for a while. But he was quite furious when his sister had denied the chance for his daughter, to have a claim for the throne. Especially when his daughter was born before Tsunami. Shark was thinking over how to try and write over this injustice. He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard a voice say, "Shark."
The brother of Queen Coral looked to see Scuttle flap into the room and he growled, "What do you want, bird brain?"
"It's Scuttle, Prince Shark." An annoyed Skywing said. But then he put on a straight face and bowed in respect, "But I have come to announce that Queen Coral is on her way." Then he looked to Shark with an annoyed expression again and said, "So you had better have a good explanation for missing the ceremony this morning."
"Pff." Shark scoffed and turned his head back to the scrolls on his desk. Scuttle flew to where he could stand on the edge of the desk and warned, "I'm serious, Commander Shark. Her majesty is very upset that you did not come."
"How I quiver with fear." Shark sarcastically said with a growl and looked down at the seagull. Scuttle took a step back and trembled as he fearfully said, "Don't be looking at me that way, Shark. You knew that this was coming the moment that you did not attend."
"And you know very well why I did not attend!" Shark slammed his talons on the desk, startling Scuttle. The seagull quickly turned and tried to fly away, but he wasn't quick enough when the Seawing jumped over his desk and flew after him. The frightened avian cried out for help, but it was cut short when Shark's jaws snapped shut around him. The male Seawing landed with a thud and could hear the frightened cries of the seagull in his mouth. Shark was starting to rise up and swallow the bird whole when a voice said, "Leave him be, Shark!"
The male Seawing looked out the door to see Queen Coral standing there with a frown on her face. Shark turned and bowed in respect to the queen as she entered the building. A second later, Scuttle's beak managed to pop out of his captor's mouth and commended, "Impeccable timing, your Majesty."
Shark turned his head and spat the seagull out of his mouth. Scuttle tumbled along the floor before coming to a stop. He sat up with a groan and grimaced as he was covered in Shark's drool. Rising to meet his sister at eye level and said, "Why, if it isn't my dear sister, coming to mingle with the only Seawing still on guard."
"Shark, why weren't you at the ceremony?" Coral asked him with a gentle voice. Scuttle managed to get back onto his feet and shook the saliva off of him. Shark looked away for a moment before looking to his sister again and said, "You know why."
"Come now, Shark. I am sorry that Moray will not be queen." Coral tried to apologize. Even Scuttle knew that this was a touchy subject in the royal family and everyone knew it. Then she reminded, "But you remember what mother said on her death bed."
"That it is decreed that the daughter of Queen Coral would assume the throne, unless unable to bear a child. Yes I know." Shark said before slowly scratching his claws against the stone desk, making Scuttle cringe from the sound. Shark then gestured to the papers on his desk as he said, "But all this work must have made it slip from my mind."
"Yes, well." Scuttle said as he flew up to the desk again. He got in Shark's face and stated "As slippery as your mind is, as the queen's brother you should have been the first in line."
Shark savagely growled at the bird and Scuttle yelped before flying to hide behind the queen's front legs. As her brother took a step forward, Coral was quick to stop him by saying, "Shark, I don't want there to be bad blood between this. But my daughter Tsunami is going to be the future queen, whether you like it or not."
"Then I shall go and practice my curtesy." Shark mockingly said before turning to walk out the door. Outraged by her brother's audacity, Coral angrily growled, "Don't turn your back on me, Shark."
"Oh no, Coral." Shark glanced back to his sister with a slight glare. Then he ominously said, "Perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me."
Queen Coral let out a roar before rushing in front of her brother. Shark stopped in his tracks and she got into his face and angrily questioned, "Is that a challenge?"
"Temper, temper." Shark said to calm his sister's rage. Then he added, "I would not dare to challenge you."
"Pity. Why not?" Stone asked from behind. Shark looked back at him with a snarl and Stone backed a few feet away. Shark then said, "While I do enjoy a good battle, the two of us are evenly matched." He looked to Coral as he added, "Not to mention that Coral is beloved by all of her subjects. It wouldn't be fair to take her away from them like that.
"Plus, only a sister, daughter or niece can take up the challenge. As laid down by our ancestors." With nothing more to say, Shark walked around his sister and disappeared out the door. Both Queen Coral and Scuttle walked to the door to watch as Shark jumped over the side of the cliff and down into the ocean below. Scuttle sighed before saying to the queen, "Oh, there's one in every family, your majesty.
"Two or three in mine." He remembered with slight irritation. He flew up to her shoulder and added, "And they always manage to ruin special occasions."
"What am I going to do with him, Scuttle?" Queen Coral asked her majordomo as she stared at the spot her jumped from. A smirk appeared on the Seagulls's face when he suggested, "He'd make a very handsome throw rug."
"Uh, Scuttle." Coral playfully chided when she looked at the avian. The two walked out the door and Scuttle added, "And just think of it. Whenever he gets dirty you can beat him."
That caused Queen Coral to laugh and Scuttle chuckled a little as well. The two then opened their wings and headed back to the Summer Palace.

Elsewhere, Shark was swimming through the large oceans of the Kingdom of the Sea. He came upon an island and walked up onto the beach. While the island had plant life, it looked pretty much dead from where Shark was standing. The trees looked like they hadn't had leaves on their branches in many years. Shark glanced about remembering what was on the scroll he was reading before being interrupted by his sister and the bird. He suddenly saw movement in the trees and became very alert to potential dangers. Suddenly, from behind, a large wave rose up and smacked into Shark. The Seawing was sent tumbling along the sand before quickly rising to his feet again. He shook his head to clear the cobwebs and looked around with a glare and his teeth bared.
Shark saw a few shapes smaller than himself emerging from the trees. Shark remembered them even after they went into hiding after the war had ended the Scavengers were still alive this whole time. One of them was able to bend a stream of water out of the ocean and made it to hold like blade at Shark. The Scavenger, a female, questioned, "What do you want here, sea dragon?"
"I've come to offer you a proposition." Shark said, keeping his calm even with the blade of water close to his throat. The Scavenger laughed before becoming serious again and launching her technique at him. Shark quickly backed away and the attack slammed into the beach and left a crater. Shark then rushed forward before turning and using his tail to kick up a wave of sand. The Scavengers shielded themselves from the assault before quickly raising a shield to defend themselves when Shark tried to claw at them.
The wall of water was too thick for Shark to penetrate. The smirking Scavenger's smiles faded when Shark plunged his claws through the watery shield and grabbed the female Scavenger that was the one to speak. The Scavengers moved to save one of their own, but Shark held her tightly around the waste and warned them, "I wouldn't do that. One step and I won't be responsible for what happens to her by defending myself. And I don't want that."
This confused all the Scavengers and the female in his talons questioned again, "And what do you want, sea dragon."
"An alliance." Shark said, looking into the Scavenger's eyes. One of the other Scavengers, a male from the sound of his voice, asked with a skeptical look, "And if we refuse?"
"Then I will leave." Shark promised. But then he added, "But who's to say that you'll be safe here on this island for long."
"You'd dare to blackmail us?" The Scavenger in his talons angrily questioned. Shark looked to her and said, "No."
The Scavengers became confused by this. Shark explained as he looked between them all, "You Scavengers and your kin have been living on this desolate island for a good while now. And we've both been wronged. Mostly for the sake of the future of the next generation wouldn't you say?"
"Next generation?" She asked before realizing what he was talking about. Shark changed the subject by questioning, "Aren't you tired of fishing in parts where you aren't able to catch enough? Don't you want to live a better life?"
The female Scavenger in Shark's talons thought about it for a moment before glancing back down to the other Scavengers on the ground. They too looked to each other before nodding back to her. She looked to Shark and asked, "What must we do?"
A grin grew on Shark's face as he knew that he had the help that he needed to help him assume the throne for him and for Moray.

Author's Note: Yeah, I know. Shark's plan is him going to hold the throne for Moray for when her time comes. But we have no idea what will happen down the line of the story. Maybe the pressures of waiting and failures at first will cause some kind of psychological kind of problems to where he keeps the throne for himself. We'll just have to wait and see. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
