Chapter Five: Returning to the Summer Palace

It was about half an hour later when Scuttle and Princess Tsunami had returned to the Summer Palace. The canopy opened for the two and they flew right through. The seagull looked to Tsunami and said, "I'm sure that you can figure out something to do with yourself, princess."

"Yes, Scuttle." Tsunami said before the avian majordomo flew off to get reinforcements for her mother.

Tsunami landed on one of the higher levels of the pavilion and watched Scuttle disappear to one of the other levels. The young princess thought of something to do when she happened to catch a glimpse of her uncle Shark and cousin Moray from afar. They had flown into one of the many caves that dotted the Summer Palace walls. But as he was following after his daughter, she saw him glancing back to her. Opening her wings, Tsunami took off to catch up to her family.

Scuttle had come upon the pavilion where most of the Seawing soldiers were already there. They took notice of the seagull and waited to see what he had to say. After taking a few deep breaths, Scuttle looked to them and said, "Look alive, fellas. Her Majesty is in need of some back up."

"What's going on?" One of the Seawing soldier's asked. Scuttle looked to each of them and explained, "Her Majesty, the princess and I witnessed a column of smoke a good deal away from our usual rendezvous point."

"Oh, where you give your morning report?" Another soldier cracked. It made the other soldiers snicker and it caused Scuttle to huff in annoyance. The seagull then said, "Hey! Her Majesty is waiting for her backup to arrive to investigate the matter. Now, hup to!"

"Fine, fine." A third Seawing said before rushing past Scuttle and diving for the water. Stone watched them go before opening his wings and taking flight once again.

In the cave that they had disappeared to, Shark was speaking to his daughter Moray. He looked to her and said, "I want you to remain at the Deep Palace until I return from patrol."

"Yes, Father." Moray nodded to her father's wishes. Then with a gesture of his head to the opening he said, "Now go on."

Moray turned and left without another word. But as she was about to leave the cave, Tsunami touched down into the cave and looked to her cousin with a smile. But all she was met with was with a glare as Moray opened her wings and took off. Tsunami somewhat understood that her cousin didn't really like her, but she didn't really understand why exactly. But deciding that she could talk to Moray later, she walked deeper into the cave to find Shark looking out one of the secret exits of the Summer Palace. She ran up to him and said, "Hey, Uncle Shark, guess what!"

"I don't have time for guessing games, Tsunami." Shark said with a glance to his niece. Tsunami then decided to come out with it and said, "I just came back from my patrol with Mother. And she showed me all the territory of the Kingdom of the Sea."

"How delightful." Shark said with light sarcasm and turned back to look out the exit. Tsunami walked over to the edge of the secret exit and said, "It was such an awesome day. I got to see everything with Mother. And I'll make her proud when I'm queen."

"Well, I hope that you're not expecting me to go leaping for joy." Shark said and moved to the side of the exit. He looked to the dragonet with a somewhat bored expression, "I'm not really known for that kind of thing."

He flopped against the wall and continued to stare out into kingdom. Tsunami ran over and leaned against him. While Shark acted like he didn't want her there, he didn't dare do anything that would bring about his sister's anger. Not to mention that it might ruin his plan. Tsunami looked up to her uncle and asked, "Hey, Uncle Shark, when I'm Queen, what will that make you?"

"A dolphin's uncle." Shark flatly put it. It made Tsunami laugh a little and she fell off of her uncle. When she calmed down she said, "You can be so weird."

That caused Shark to smirk as he looked down to his niece and said with a toothy grin, "You have no idea.

"So, your mother showed you the whole kingdom?" Shark asked as he got up and walked to the ledge of the secret exit. Tsunami got up and ran after him as she was still excited about what she saw, "She showed me just about everything."

"She didn't happen to show you what was up North, did she?" Shark asked when he looked down to her. Then he with a slight gesture to the outside world he added, "The place where our maps are the most dark."

"Well, no." Tsunami shook her head with a disappointed look and sat down. Remembering her mother's words she said, "She warned me not to go that way. Especially that one island that's been scribbled out."

"And she's absolutely right. It's far too dangerous." Shark nodded, as if to agree with the queen. But then he added to goad her while turning his head back out, "Only the bravest of Seawings would venture out that far."

"Well, I'm brave." Tsunami boldly said as she stood up again. Her curiosity getting the better of her she asked, "What's out there, Uncle Shark."

"Apologies, Tsunami." Shark shook his head as he laid down on his belly. Making it sound like she shouldn't know he said, "I'm afraid that I cannot tell you. It's not a safe place for dragonets."

"Oh, come on." Tsunami pleaded with her uncle while he crossed his forelegs. Shark put on a sympathetic look and said, "Come now, Tsunami, I'm just looking out for the wellbeing of one of my nieces."

"Yeah, but still-" Tsunami tried to argue but was interrupted when he used when of his talons to rub her head. But Shark shook his head as if he completely disagreed, "It's to be protective for both you and the blood line." He leaned down and let it slip out, "The Desolate Isles are no place is not somewhere one should go without cause."

He gasped and covered his mouth with his talons in shock to what he had given away. But it had the reaction he was hopping for when she asked, "The Desolate Isles?" Glancing out to the rest of the kingdom she began to grow more curious, "Woah."

"Oh, dear. I have said to much I'm afraid." Shark shook his head in fake disappointment with himself. But then making it sound like it would have come about sooner or later, he added, "But I'm sure that you would have heard about the place at some point.

"You being so clever in all." Shark chuckled. But before Tsunami could try and slip away, Shark was able to wrap a wing around her. Tsunami looked up to her uncle and curiously asked him, "Have you been there, Uncle Shark?"

"Just about everyone has." Shark nodded as if to confirm it. Tsunami then asked, "Even my parents and Orca."

"Even them." Shark said, knowing that part was actually quite the truth. Then he asked, "And just between the two of us, you do promise that you'll stay as far away as you can from that horrible place."

Tsunami thought about it for a split second, and said with a grin, "No problem."

"There's a good girl dragonet." Shark said before unwrapping his wing. Then with his tail, he ushered her back down the tunnel and she started to run off. But before she disappeared back into the Summer Palace, Shark called out to her, "And remember…"

Tsunami stopped and looked back to her uncle. To make sure she understood he said, "This is our little secret."

The young Seawing nodded before disappearing out of sight. When he was sure that she was gone, Shark turned to the opening with a sinister smile as his plan was now in motion. Opening his wings he said to himself, "Time to go on patrol."

Then with a leap, he jumped into the air and flew to head to the island himself.

Author's Note: I know that I usually put this chapter and the patrol chapter together, but I wanted to do it differently this time. The next chapter will be pretty much the same. Though as I think about it, there might be a difference at the beginning. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
