Disclaimer: I do not own the characters from Monster Hunter, only how the story goes. The characters and world of Monster Hunter belongs to Capcom. The only thing that I do own are the OC's of the story. I do apologize for any errors in grammar and/or if I was not accurate in reference to something.

A/N: Not only will a track from MHW be featured in the chapter, but a song that I hope will get a key focus of the story across. This confrontation has actually been on my mind since I started the story.

Chapter Sixteen: Jacob vs the Anjanath

As he practiced flinging the shield at the towering branches of the platform high in the tree, Jacob could hardly believe that nearly four months had passed since he had come to the New World. His appearance had greatly changed during that time. His hair was a lot longer than what it used to be, his feet had slight cuts from walking around barefoot all the time, though he was used to it by now and his muscles were a lot well-toned too. A scratch or two adorned his face from the rigorous training. The teen currently had his shield on and his Iron Katana with him. He had left his Dual Blades in the second camp before coming up here. With another hard throw he sent the metal disk flying towards one of the branches growing towards the sky. The shield bounced off of one branch before hitting two more. Jacob quickly ran to catch it before it went over the edge. It was one of the many things that he didn't care for doing, having to retrieve your weapon while in the middle of practice. He caught the shield by the side and spun around to move more towards the middle of the platform. Jacob was about to keep practicing when he was stopped when scaley feathers suddenly dropped down in front of him. A grin grew on his face as he knew that a certain someone was trying to mess with him. Jacob looked up to the branches around him just a shape darted out of his line of sight. Thanks to the months of training he was able to keep his guard up while doing his best to follow his visitor's movements. Jacob stopped trying to follow the movements when he felt a pair of eyes from behind. He kept his grin in check when he heard a small hiss. Without looking back he quickly adopted a more serious look when he said, "Think you've got the drop on me, do ya?

"Then try this one on!" He added while quickly turning and flinging the shield. Boltia jumped off the limb and the shield ended up bouncing off of it. Jacob quickly dropped down and rolled underneath the Tobi-Kadachi as she glided over him. Grabbing the shield as he started to rise on his feet, the human turned to his Fanged Wyvern pseudo-adversary with himself at the ready. Boltia gave a screeching roar before bounding up to him. Jacob rushed to meet her with the shield raised and dropped down to use the disk to try and trip her up with a single sweep. Boltia raised up to avoid the strike before turning her body to swat at him with her tail. Jacob was a little distracted when the scaley feathers of her tail brushed over him. He barely had any time to react when she came around with her maw open. Rolling out of the way, Jacob managed to get back to his feet and made a punching motion with his shield arm. Boltia managed to grab the edge of the shield in her jaws before raising her body up and flinging the human across the little arena.

Acting quickly, Jacob fired his slinger at one of the branches and the hook embedded itself into the wood. He swung around before coming at her with a kick. The Tobi-Kadachi jumped back to avoid the outstretched leg when he landed and remained on guard as she backed away from him with a light growl. Jacob noticed that she was inching closer to the edge above her nest and got a bit of an idea. Holding his shield up before him again he rushed towards the Fanged Wyvern. Boltia readied herself for whatever the human may have planned. But Jacob managed to surprise her by firing the grappling hook at her front feet. The Tobi-Kadachi reared up with a startled yelp, but that was what Jacob had been counting on. Quickly retracting the grappling hook, Jacob held the shield up and with a yell he leapt at her. Jacob used the shield to knock her over and they both ended up falling over the side of the branch. Jacob and Boltia fell into the nest and they both groaned from the slight fall. But Jacob was the first to get back up and quickly dashed towards the downed wyvern just as Boltia was starting to pick herself back up. In a swift motion the human knocked the Tobi-Kadachi onto her back with him on top and he did his best to keep her pinned down. Boltia gave a small whine and squirmed underneath Jacob as he only smiled to this little victory. He lightly mocked her by saying, "Sorry, girl, but this round belongs to me.

"But I will say that you were really good there." He added the complement as he got off of her. Boltia only gave a light growl as she sat up again. Knowing what would cheer her up, Jacob offered, "How about I give you a consolation prize?

"Will these help?" He asked while removing some pieces of bark from the ground. The human started rubbing the pieces of wood against Boltia's neck and she really enjoyed the feeling as she twisted her head so he could get all the right spots. Jacob watched as the scaley fur started to rise up on the back of her neck when he moved the pieces of wood back there. Small sparks of static electricity flowed from the rubbing. He laughed when he got it sticking up a certain way and said, "Ha, ha, you like quite silly with that electric mohawk."

Boltia glanced back to see what he had done. Though she wasn't too upset about it, she did get him back by licking him in the face and making the front hairs on his head stand up. She gave a laugh like grunt from how he was looking. Jacob glanced up to the handiwork before looking to her, "A Tobi-Kadachi lick.

"Well played." He said when he narrowed his eyes in fake annoyance. After fixing his hair the human teen kept lightly rubbing the bark against her scales and she flopped down onto her back so he could get to her belly. Jacob only laughed as he started rubbing the bark against the scales of her middle.

They were both brought out of their joy when the sky suddenly started turning dark above them. Jacob and Boltia looked up to see dark clouds starting to block out the sun. With a sigh Jacob said, "Well, guess I better be heading back.

"I've had plenty of moments were I got caught in the rain." He grumbled when he stood up. Boltia gave a small whine and seemed to want him to stay when she lightly thumped the nest with her tail. But Jacob stood firm with leaving as he shook his head, "Uh-uh. I don't think so. The last time I stayed over when it rained on us, I was feeling pretty miserable during and after that.

"But I will come back soon." He promised as he started to climb down the vines. Jacob gave one glance up to her before starting down the path. He went under the branch arena and walked towards the opening where the hanging boulders were. But the sound of falling wood made him look in another direction. Jacob started for a tunnel that went to a lower part of the Ancient Forest. The path wasn't too steep for the human as he made his way down.

When he came to the end of the tunnel, he found himself at the opening to the caves. Figuring that he might be close to the second camp's location, Jacob carefully jumped down the small ledge and landed in a crouch. His head snapped up when he heard the sound of crashing trees and roars from two different beasts out from the openings. Carefully making his way to one of them, Jacob peered out to see who was in the middle of the battle. From the looks of it, they appeared to both be Brute Wyverns. Carefully making his way to some shrubbery to hide in, Jacob hid amongst the plants to get a better look at the combatants.

From his new spot he saw the Anjanath going up against the Deviljho in the middle of the clearing. Both Brute Wyverns were circling each other and had narrowed eyes as they growled. Jacob wondered what they were fighting over until he noticed some Aptonoth cowering a good distance from the two fighting beasts. Making to where he was sure that he wouldn't be seen, the teen turned his eyes back to the fight. The Anjanath and the Deviljho butted their craniums together and fought to push the other over. They separated and the Anjanath gave a roar before it fired a stream of fire from its mouth. The blast of fire put the Deviljho on the defensive as it backed away from the flames. The Anjanath was quick to follow up by jumping into the air and wildly kicking at the other Brute Wyvern. The blows knocked the green beast back further. The Deviljho gave a big cat-like roar before lunging forward and knocking the Anjanath back with its thicker tail. The Anjanath stumbled a moment before looking at its foe. The two dinosaur-like beasts snarled at each other as the fight seemed to be going in the Deviljho's favor when the more spikey monster shoved the Anjanath away into a tree. Both tree and Brute Wyvern fell to the ground and the Anjanath looked up just as the Deviljho slammed its foot into the fallen beast's side. The Anjanath roared from the harsh stomp and the Deviljho raised its head to give a roar of triumph. Jacob gasped when the Deviljho opened its jaws as if to end the Anjanath there and then. He was about to do end the fight when a Mernos came flying through and passed right by the two Brute Wyverns. The Deviljho seemed to get distracted by the passing flier and roared as he started to chase after it. From his spot in the bushes, Jacob quietly shrugged, "Huh, guess it's got a short attention span."

The Mernos was able to escape from the savage beast by flying higher into the air. The Deviljho gave a frustrated roar at the loss of a potential meal, but its sights quickly shifted to the Aptonoth herd that was running for their lives. The Savage Wyvern gave another roar and chased after them into the jungles of the Ancient Forest.

Over with the Anjanath, it was panting from the fight as it laid there and Jacob could tell that it was hurting and hungry. He wished that there was a way for him to help, but was broken from his thoughts when the Anjanath picked itself off the ground. The purple theropod shook its head and gave a slight growl as it looked to be grimacing from the pain that it received. Jacob could see that it was drooling from its hunger. The Brute Wyvern glanced to where the Deviljho had run off before shaking its head in disappointment. With a huff it started walking out of the area. Jacob watched as it started to make its way for the tunnel that led down to the slope. After it had gone a good deal of the way towards the exit, Jacob started to exit the bush. But after taking a step to go a different way, he tensed up when he snapped a twig under his foot. The human's breathing stopped when he slowly turned his head and saw the Anjanath suddenly looking his way. It gave a roar before spitting some flame at him. Jacob jumped out of the bush and cringed from the heat as it exploded from the flames.

(Cue Savage of the Ancient Forest: The Chase from Monster Hunter World)

Looking back to the Anjanath, Jacob cried out to see it rushing towards him with its jaws open wide. Quickly getting off the ground, Jacob started running to get away from the hungry carnivore. The Anjanath was right behind the teen as he ran past the walls of vines and deeper into the forest. They came across some Jagras who gawked at the sight of the two running through. Like a video game character, Jacob jumped over all the lizards before continuing on. The large lizards quickly moved out of the way to avoid being trampled on or eaten as the bigger monster rushed after the teen.

Stumbling when he tripped over a root, Jacob looked back and gasped when the Anjanath came right at him. The human quickly rolled out of the way and avoided the beast's jaws as its head scrapped against the ground. Jacob saw a small opening to where he could try to get away. Inside he came across a bit of a dead end and his troubles only got much worse when the Anjanath broke through the barrier with its hard head. Acting quickly, Jacob fired the grappling hook of his slinger at a wooden part of the wall and zipped up to try and keep out of the Brute Wyvern's reach. But as he was getting higher along the wall, Jacob saw the Anjanath starting to rush at him again with its head looking to ram him. Jacob barely managed to avoid the wyvern's head when he pulled his legs out of the way. The Anjanath's cranium bashed against the harder wall and it caused the grappling hook to dislodge from the wall. Jacob cried out as he fell onto the Anjanath's head. But a smile formed on his face when he started sliding down the creature's back and shouted when he got to the tail, "Yabba-dabba-doo!"

He was launched off the end of the tail and managed to land on both feet and swayed to keep himself from falling over. With a chuckle Jacob said, "I've always wanted to do that.

"Oops. Got to go." He said with a worried look when the Anjanath behind him growled. He started running again with the Anjanath once again giving chase.

Jacob came across the exit point to the desert. While he wished that he could use the tunnel to escape, he figured that the Anjanath would be on him before he could make it up the wall in time. Deciding to push his luck a little, Jacob turned to go down the shaded part of the forest and was relieved when he saw a walkway made of wood. Thinking that the Anjanath wouldn't be able to follow him, Jacob dashed for the wooden ramp. He narrowly missed the Anjanath's teeth when it tried to snap at him as he climbed. Jacob managed to climb high enough to where the Anjanath wouldn't be able to get at him, but he didn't count on the Brute Wyvern to start jumping up and biting at the wood to bring its prey down. Jacob hopped from branch to branch in an effort to stay a step ahead of the Anjanath. But it seemed to be right behind him as it followed him from the ground.

Jacob made it to the last branch and waited a moment. From the sounds of the footsteps, the Anjanath went ahead of him and out beyond where he was hiding. He waited a moment when the wyvern stopped and looked around for him. Jacob thought he was in the clear when the Anjanath took a step forward, but yelped in surprise when the Anjanath sent a stream of fire to where he was hiding. Quickly falling backwards, he watched the stream of fire pass over him. He tensed up when he felt the wood break a little from underneath and thought that the Anjanath was once again biting at it to get to him.

Quickly acting, Jacob got up and fired his slinger to swing to get to the opening of the camp. It caught on a branch and the teen leapt off the branch before the Anjanath below could take another bite. The Brute Wyvern stopped what it was doing to see the human swinging away. Jacob repeated the action with the slinger a few times until he had the opening in his sights. He planned to go into the camp and wait until the Anjanath left or to grab his Dual Blades. And the opening was right in front of him and seemed so easy to just fall through. But he was proven wrong as he was falling towards the entrance when the Anjanath's tail whacked him from the side and sent him flying into the shaded part of the forest. Jacob crashed against top of a big mushroom and groaned in pain as he laid there for a moment.

(End of track)

But he knew that it wasn't the place to rest as he could feel the footsteps from the Anjanath coming closer. Jacob moved to get back onto his feet and readied both his sword and the shield. Thunder boomed overhead and it wasn't but a second later when rain started to pour down on them. The Anjanath roared as it came closer and Jacob swung his sword to make it back off. The Anjanath barely moved back in time to avoid getting cut by the blade and Jacob jumped off the mushroom to punch with his shield arm. The shield managed to connect with the Anjanath's snout and Jacob followed up with spin and slapping the underside of the Brute Wyvern's jaw when he landed. The Anjanath staggered back from the two blows and Jacob moved to go underneath the staggered beast to try and get to the camp. But the Anjanath didn't make it easy for him as its foot stepped down in front of him. Jacob grit his teeth as he swung the blade upward. The Anjanath yelped from the cut it received and retaliated by trying knock into him with its head. Jacob ducked and rolled out of the way as the maneuver kicked up a lot of dirt. Jacob turned to face the Brute Wyvern as the Anjanath did the same to look at the human. It gave a powerful roar and Jacob stayed his ground.

Jacob then noticed a shape moving through the tops of the trees and became surprised when Boltia suddenly dropped down. She surprised the Anjanath by landing on its back and knocking it off its feet. The Anjanath gave a surprised screech from the Fanged Wyvern as Boltia moved to deliver a bite to the Brute Wyvern's shoulder. It roared in agony from the bite that it received and with a swift motion of its head it tried to grab Boltia with its jaws. But the Tobi-Kadachi moved much quicker when jumped away from the downed wyvern. She gave her screeching roar before bounding over to Jacob.

But a blast of fire stopped her from reaching the human and they both looked to see the Anjanath getting back up. It looked really ticked off now as it roared at the two. With a twirl of his sword, Jacob tried to quickly weigh his options of what to do here. He thought that together, him and Boltia could stand a chance, but he also knew that the Anjanath was mostly acting this way due to hunger and being pushed around by the Deviljho. Jacob was mostly hoping to drive the Anjanath away instead of having to really hurt it or it hurting them.

His thoughts were broken when Boltia gave another screeching roar and rushed for the Brute Wyvern. The Anjanath lunged forward with its jaws open wide, but Boltia was able to outmaneuver it when she jumped out of the way and latched onto its side with her jaws. The Anjanath roared from the bite again before managed to grab her by the back of the neck with its own set of teeth. Boltia squealed in agony from the harsh bite. A distraught Jacob shouted, "No!"

Quickly looking around, he noticed the flash fly in the hollow of the tree. He had to act fast as the Anjanath harshly slammed Boltia against the ground. She gave a pained whine as she was still held in its jaws when it lifted its head again. Jacob found himself a red pit fruit, snapped a couple from the stem and applied one to his slinger. Quickly running up to the flash fly, he turned to the Anjanath and fired the red pit into its side. The Brute Wyvern yelped in shock and pain from the sudden strike and managed to drop Boltia in the process. It looked to Jacob who in turn gave a hard tap to the floating flash fly. Thanks to having his back turned to it and Boltia's head not facing the bug when it went off, the only one affected was the Anjanath who yelped in surprise from being blinded. It gave hoarse sounding noises for a moment before it started flailing about to try and attack them to no avail. Seeing that it was distracted for the time being, Jacob rushed over to Boltia who was just starting to pick herself up. He checked over where the Anjanath had her and could see a few puncture wounds. She grunted in pain when he lightly touched them and removed his hand to see a little blood on his fingers. Highly doubting she could survive more of that kind of thrashing, he urged her, "Come on girl, we need to get out of here."

Boltia didn't need to be told twice as they started for the entrance of the shaded forest area. But they weren't in the clear yet when Boltia was knocked away by the Anjanath's head. The Fanged Wyvern crashed through the hollow tree and appeared to be knocked unconscious underneath the wreckage. Jacob felt a little afraid as he found himself before the Anjanath who just growled down at him. The rain continued to pelt the two as another boom of thunder rang out above them.

(Cue Brother My Brother by Blessed Union of Souls)

Jacob held his sword and shield at the ready while the Anjanath gave another of its fierce roars. The two narrowed their eyes at each other as they prepared themselves. The Anjanath rushed forward and Jacob hollered when he charged forward. He dropped down and slid underneath the Anjanath's legs and delivered a slash to the Brute Wyvern's belly.

Brother my brother

Tell me what are we fighting for?

The Anjanath growled from that and looked to slam its tail down on the teen. Quickly rolling out of the way, Jacob managed to avoid being crushed by the appendage before climbing onto an overgrown mushroom before jumping onto the Anjanath's back. The bigger monster violently shook to try and get the teen off of it, but Jacob grabbed onto the fur along its back to hold on.

We've got to end this war

We should love one another

Jacob readied the sword in his free hand and prepared to swing it. But the Anjanath looked back to see him about to strike. It started rushing for a tree to try and dislodge the human. The teen cried out when the Anjanath suddenly turned and barely made it off in time just as the Brute Wyvern made contact with the trunk. The Anjanath yelped in pain from the crash only it received while Jacob moved to get some space away from it.

Oh, can't we just pretend

This war never began?

Rushing around another tree, Jacob glanced around to see if the Anjanath was coming. Knowing he didn't have long, Jacob tried to think of what to do, but hardly had any time to think about when the Brute Wyvern's foot crashed down next to him. He jumped out of the way to avoid the beast's jaws and they ended up crashing into the earth. With a jab of his sword, Jacob stuck it into one of the Anjanath's toes. The purple theropod reared its head and cried out from it.

We can try

Brother my brother

The Anjanath retaliated by swinging around to swat at the human with its tail. His shield barely managed to prevent Jacob from taking the brunt of the blow. As he flew through the air, Jacob plunged the sword into the ground and in turn created a small groove. After removing the katana from the ground he looked up to see his purple adversary coming at him.

We face each other from different sides

The anger burns can't remember why

Quickly dashing out of the way, Jacob turned with a swing of his blade to keep the Anjanath back. The Brute Wyvern narrowly dodged the tip of the blade and Jacob's eyes widened when he saw its maw open wide. His worry increased when he saw red at the back of its throat. He didn't register his feet getting cold until he glanced down. He saw that he was standing in the small pond at the edge of area and at his feet was a little wet moss. Deciding to quickly act just as the Anjanath started to throw its head forward, Jacob reached down and used his shield hand to scoop up some of the wet moss. He flung what he could of the contents just before the flames could leave the Brute Wyvern's mouth.

It's kind of crazy to cause so much pain

Our foolish pride makes us hate this way

The wet moss landed against the Anjanath's upper jaw and a small splash from it was enough to douse the beast's flames. The Anjanath recoiled from the sudden surprise and coughed as it temporarily lost use of its fiery weapon. It glared with a growl when it looked to the teen. Jacob quickly returned the sword to the scabbard before removing the shield from his arm. With a yell he threw it forward and it connected against the Anjanath's head.

We watch our world fall apart

Tell me what good is winning

The Brute Wyvern recoiled from the sudden strike and Jacob quickly moved to recollect his shield as he went by. Jacob then climbed onto another mushroom and looked back to see the Anjanath coming for him. The purple theropod twisted its head a little with jaws open wide and Jacob waited until the last second. He moved forward and dropped down at the very last second. The Anjanath's jaws ended up crashing against the trunk of the tree and seemed to get stuck.

When you lose your heart

Jacob quickly moved away from the struggling wyvern and ran for the opening. He planned to lead the Anjanath away from Boltia to try and let her get back on her feet so she could escape. Glancing back he saw the Anjanath rip its jaws free and quickly came rushing after the boy with a roar. Weaving past the trees, Jacob took a quick glance to where Boltia was laying. It didn't look like the Tobi-Kadachi was going to get up anytime soon so he kept running.

Brother my brother

Tell me what are we fighting for?

He came out into the open and slipped down the slope a little. Managing to steady himself as he came upon the fork in the road, Jacob turned right and looked to get ready to go down the drop. The human looked back to see the Anjanath rushing down the slope behind him. Taking a leap of faith, Jacob jumped over the edge. The Anjanath was right behind him by jumping down as well.

Isn't life worth so much more

We should love one another

It landed with a big splash in the pool of water below and looked around for the human. The Brute Wyvern was greatly confused when it didn't see him anywhere. It turned and looked back to see Jacob pulling himself back up the vines. The Anjanath gave a roar of frustration as Jacob moved away from the drop. He was about to keep running when he looked back. The human looked with bugged eyes when he saw the Anjanath's head suddenly appear over the side. Figuring that it must be able to climb up vines, Jacob looked into the sky and shouted, "Oh, come on!"

Oh, can't we just pretend

This war never began?

He thought going for the boat might be his best option so he started running again just as the Anjanath was almost up. Jumping over a root, Jacob slid as he tried to turn. He ran past a tree covered with vines and shot straight for the tall grass. A roar from behind told him that the Anjanath was getting close.

Tell me why

Brother my brother

He had to stop himself when the Anjanath's shadow passed over his head. The Brute Wyvern crashed down in front of him and Jacob quickly backed away while pulling out his sword again. Standing at the ready, Jacob prepared himself as the Anjanath turned to face him again. The Brute Wyvern was about to go on the attack again when it stopped ad saw something behind the human.

We can try

Brother my Brother

Jacob heard something crash down behind him and wondered how his situation could get any worse. Glancing back he saw a draconic shape behind him and saw that it was a Rathalos. But a grin formed on his face when he saw that it was Papa Rath. And the King of the Skies wasn't looking at the human with narrowed eyes, but the Anjanath right in front of them.

Let's take a moment and look deep inside

And say we'll learn to give love a try

The Anjanath stood against both Jacob and the Rathalos. The human cringed a little when both wyverns let loose their signature roars. The Anjanath had its jaws open wide when it charged for them and the Rathalos jumped into the air. Jacob raised his sword while putting the shield in front of him as he rushed forward after Papa Rath.

When matters differ as we seem to be

There's so much more to me than what you see

Papa Rath collided against the Anjanath and the two fell against the ground. The two entered a frenzy of clawing and biting each other as the Flying Wyvern had the Brute Wyvern pinned underneath him. The Anjanath landed a good kick against Papa Rath's chest and the Rathalos was knocked off of it. Jacob came around the downed Papa and swung his sword. The Anjanath recoiled from the cut to its snout and took a step back from the two. While keeping his sword pointed at the Brute Wyvern, he glanced back to check on the Rathalos who was just starting to get back up.

You don't have to be this way

Think about the consequences

Turn around and walk away!

Neither of them were expecting the Anjanath to come around the human and grabbing the Rathalos' shoulder with its teeth. Jacob was about to come to Papa's rescue when the Anjanath pulled the Rathalos around and used him to swat the boy away. Jacob cried out as he was sent flying and tumbled along the ground. When he stopped Jacob groaned from the pain he was feeling. Glancing up he saw that he was laying underneath the tree with the tangle of vines. A sudden growl made him look around the tree to see Boltia slowly coming around the bend. From the look on her face she didn't seem to happy.

Brother my brother

Tell me what are we fighting for?

Shakily getting off the ground, Jacob looked back to see the Anjanath throw Papa to the ground. The Rathalos gave a groan as he laid on the ground. Feeling pretty ticked off about that, Jacob looked back to the tree that had the tangle of vines and got an idea. Putting the iron katana back into its scabbard, Jacob looked for something to get the Anjanath's attention and spotted just the thing. Picking up a rock he applied it to the slinger and quickly shot it at the Anjanath. The rock smacked into the back of the Anjanath's head. It had a dark glare when it turned back to the human with a growl while Jacob prepared himself and shouted, "Over here, Grumper!"

Isn't life worth so much more

We should love one another

The Anjanath roared at him and charged right at him. Jacob waited for the right moment before jumping out of the way. The Anjanath crashed against the tree and caused it and the plant to topple over. The tangle of vines were strewn all over the ground. Racing past the Brute Wyvern as it was starting to get back up Jacob prepared to do his idea. Picking up some of the vines in his hand, he looked to see Boltia grab some of it in her jaws.

Oh, can't we just pretend

This war never began?

Both human and Tobi-Kadachi ran right for the Anjanath who had its feet back underneath him. Boltia jumped over the Brute Wyvern while Jacob slid underneath the beast. Jacob tossed his handful up while Boltia went around. The Anjanath was greatly confused by this and the movement of its arms and tail was restricted when the vines tightened around its body.

Tell me why

(Brother my brother)

Ooh-what are we fighting for?

Isn't life just worth so much more!?

(Love one another)

Tell me why, why, why

Knowing that it wasn't going to hold the Anjanath forever, Jacob decided to follow up by aiming his slinger. He fired the grappling hook before swinging it to where it wrapped around the Brute Wyvern's legs. With a strong tug of his arm, Jacob tried to tighten the cable of the hook, but it was proving difficult for him. Luckily, Boltia came to his aid by grabbing the cable with her mouth and pulling herself.

Brother my brother

Her help tightened the cable and the Anjanath started roaring in protest as it tried to break free of its bindings. Both Jacob and Boltia struggled to keep from getting yanked off of their feet. A roar from the side made Jacob glance to the right to see Papa Rath getting back onto his feet. The Rathalos flew into the air and headed right for the bound Anjanath. With a screech the Flying Wyvern quickly somersaulted while in the air and bashed his clubbed tail against the Anjanath's side.

Tell me why

(Tell me why!)

Can't we just love another!?

(Love one another)

The Anjanath cried out from the blow as it was sent over the edge of the slope and slid down to the sea. Jacob and Boltia nearly went with it if Boltia hadn't yanked on the cable. It caused the grappling hook to untangle itself. The Anjanath roared as it slid down to the sea.

(End of song)

Jacob and Boltia rushed over to stand with Papa Rath and they looked down at the struggling wyvern. Still feeling a little upset about being chased and his friends getting hurt by the Anjanath, Jacob unsheathed his sword and rushed down the hill. Both Papa Rath and Boltia growled at the human who didn't seem to acknowledge them.

(Cue Middle of Brass Buttons from Hobbit: AUJ)

Jacob rushed for the Anjanath who was now on its side as it struggled to escape its bindings. But it stopped when it felt a sudden presence and looked with its left eye to see Jacob standing there with his sword ready to come down. Jacob's brows furrowed as he held the katana with both hands with the end pointing down at it. He was about to finish the fight there and then when the Anjanath gave a low growl as if in defeat. Jacob watched as it closed its eye and waited for the final blow.

Lowering his sword, Jacob glanced up from the Anjanath into the reflection of his blade. He thought of what he was about to do and didn't really like what he was seeing. After a moment of calming himself, he looked back down into the eye of the Anjanath who also seems to have calmed down. Letting his sword drop to the ground for a moment, Jacob shook his head, "I don't want to hurt you.

"I never wanted to." He said when he glanced at the wounds he had inflicted. Gesturing to the Anjanath he said, "You were just hungry and frustrated. Otherwise I honestly don't think you would have chased me to hurt me.

"You didn't all those months ago." He remembered that first chase. The human shrugged with a chuckle, "Sure, you may have gotten upset with me, but you never tried to harm me."

(End of track)

Picking up his sword again, Jacob moved over to the vines and carefully started to cut them. Each of the vines snapped after a few cuts and the Anjanath was free again. The Brute Wyvern started to rise on its feet again and Jacob took a step back. When the Anjanath stood over him again, Jacob waited to see what it would do. The purple theropod just stared down at him as the rain started to stop falling. Jacob looked to the wounds and saw that they still bled a little. He remembered that he had a few vials of healing potion stashed away, he looked between the Anjanath and the two up the hill, "I've got something for those nasty wounds.

"If you all would let me." He offered to each of them. While Boltia didn't seem to mind as she gave a small growl, both Papa and the Anjanath seemed a little more proud at the thought by looking away. But Jacob was persistent when he said, "Oh, come now. I have plenty to go around.

"Plus, Mama's liable to give you a hard time for your injuries." He playfully teased the Rathalos. Papa gave a huff before looking up the giant tree to where his nest was. Seeing that he won the argument, Jacob started for the boat. But before walking up the hill, Jacob glanced back to the Anjanath and said, "I'll be back soon.

"Try to keep out of trouble till I get back." He smirked while the Anjanath just rolled its eyes. Jacob just laughed a little before continuing on his way.

Author's Note: Well that was something, wasn't it. Not only did Jacob come to an understanding with one of the monsters from the prologue, but they managed to form a bit of a bond as well. And originally, Boltia and Papa Rath didn't play a part in the battle. But I'm actually glad that I did it. The next chapter, our four friends are going to be dealing with a certain menace that's been around since chapter 8. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
