Chapter Seventeen: Dealing With a Bully of a Beast
After returning to the boat, Jacob managed to secure some vials of Healing Potion that he had left on the boat in situations where he didn't have his bag on him. He thought that four would be enough for all of them and he grabbed a vial of Antidote as well in case the Anjanath had been poisoned by Papa Rath's talons during the battle. With the vials secured in his hands, Jacob quickly made his way up the stairs and back to the three waiting wyverns. He hoped that they weren't trying to kill each other while he was gone.
…
He ran through the tall grass and out into the open with the vials in hand. Jacob smiled to see that they had patiently waited for him. All three wyverns stood a good distance from each other while doing their best to avoid eye contact. Placing most of the vials on the ground, he held a Health Potion and asked, "All right, whose gonna be first?"
Papa Rath, Boltia and the Anjanath all looked to each other before the Tobi-Kadachi was the first to come forth. Opening up the vial, Jacob looked through the scaley feathers before finding the bite mark from earlier. He looked her in the eye and said, "This is going to sting. Brace yourself."
Boltia gave a low moan to this when she looked to the side and screeched in pain when he applied some of the potion to the wounds. The human tried to be gentle as he put more on to the puncture wounds. She seemed to have second thoughts and started squirming to get away and Jacob had to hold on to get to the rest of the wounds. The Tobi-Kadachi ended up knocking the boy off his feet and he fell on his rear. With a sigh Jacob looked up and reminded her, "Hey, I told you that it was going to sting, didn't I?
"Now hold still, I'm almost done." He advised when he rose to his feet. But Boltia didn't make it easy for him when she moved away from him. Jacob gave her a questioning look and took a step forward. Boltia quickly darted to the side when he reached to apply some more of the medicinal substance and it led to Jacob chasing after her. Both Papa Rath and the Anjanath watched the amusing scene as Jacob shouted after her, "You know that this is really immature of you. Be a big girl and take your medicine!"
The two ran in a circle for a moment or two before the Anjanath slammed its tail down before the Tobi-Kadachi. The Fanged Wyvern hissed up at the Brute Wyvern who only growled down at her. She was about to move away when Papa Rath moved to prevent her from escaping. With her surrounded, Jacob slowly came up, held up his hands in a nonthreatening manner and said, "I'm not wanting to hurt you. It's just that if the wounds aren't treated, they could get infected."
She seemed to calm down enough to let him come closer. With gently motions of his hand, a few more hisses from Boltia, Jacob was able to finish applying the Healing Potion. When he was done, the human took a step back and said, "Okay, you're good.
"Which of the two of you wants to get it over with?" He asked the two remaining wyverns while Boltia moved away a little. He was a bit surprised when the Anjanath was the one to step up. Uncorking another vial of Healing Potion, Jacob dipped a couple of fingers in it and thought of where to begin. He saw the cut on the Brute Wyvern's snout and moved his hand to it. But Jacob stopped when he was a little worried. But his fears were put to rest when the Anjanath seemed to trust him by closing its eyes and leaning its head closer. Very tentatively, Jacob traced his potion covered fingers over the cut and was a little startled when the Anjanath gave a pained growl. But the Anjanath didn't make any moves to attack, just looked to be fighting to stay still and didn't open its eyes. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Jacob continued to apply the healing potion to the cut before moving to attend the other cuts. He started with the cut on its side and shoulder before moving to get to the one on the underbelly of the Brute Wyvern. The teen remembered stabbing the Anjanath's foot earlier and moved to tend to it.
When he was finished tending to his apparent new friend, Jacob moved to where he could give some potion to the bites and blows that Papa Rath received. But before he could even begin to help the Rathalos begin his recovery, all three wyverns started growling at something. The human glanced around for what they were sensing until his eyes stopped at a spot on a cliff. The cliff itself was underneath the shade of some tall trees. And what standing on the cliff made Jacob gasp.
A Deviljho, no doubt the one that chased him, Boltia and gave the Anjanath a tough time, stood there on the cliff, looking upon the group of four as it gave a low growl. The three other wyverns looked to the savage brute with growls of their own and Jacob slowly put the vial he had back in the pack. He watched as Boltia and the Anjanath both moved in front of him while Papa Rath put on a threatening look while rising to keep an eye on the Brute Wyvern. The Deviljho hopped down from the cliff, moved to observe the group and kept its sights on the three before maneuvering its head to sneak a peek at the human in the middle of the group. Jacob felt afraid as the gaze of this beast stared him down with narrowed eyes. His nervousness grew when the beast with the bottomless appetite licked its maw in anticipation. This only earned snarls from the other three and the Deviljho righted itself again. For some reason Jacob felt like he was Mowgli and the Deviljho kind of like Shere Khan. And the three surrounding him were Bagheera, Baloo and perhaps even the wolves.
(Cue Deviljho (Monster Hunter World edition) Theme)
The Deviljho snarled at them and started to move around the circle of the three wyverns, looking for an opening to get to the human. Jacob reached for the hilt of his sword to prepare himself for what was probably another battle for his and his companions' lives. The devil beast gave out a fearsome, big cat-like roar before moving forward and unleashed a black cloud from its maw. The four quickly stepped back from the dragon breath attack. But it seemed that this is what the Deviljho wanted as it quickly dashed forward and bashed its skull against the Anjanath's while whipping its bulky tail around and smacking Boltia away. The Anjanath was sent stumbling back while Papa Rath moved to engage against the savage monster. Jacob stayed clear when the Rathalos let loose a fire ball that impacted against the devil beast's side. The Deviljho let loose a cry of agony from the flames before regaining its composure. It went on the attack by leaping into the air and landing a hard kick against Papa Rath's head. The blow sent the King of the Skies tumbling away and Jacob let loose a yell to move to swing his blade. The blade slashed the beast's leg and the Deviljho roared from it before turning its attention on the boy. Jacob backed away and kept his shield and sword at the ready by twirling the latter a bit. Another sweep of the dragon's breath sent Jacob falling back and he landed with a pained grunt.
Groaning as he started to get up, Jacob gasped when the Deviljho came right at him and reared up its head. Quickly rolling out of the way, the teen barely avoided having the beast's head smash down on him as it became embedded in the ground. Jacob picked himself back up just as the Deviljho ripped itself free of the dirt. Readying his sword for another strike as the Brute Wyvern rose, Jacob became very surprised when the Anjanath came in from behind and landed a bite to the back of the Deviljho's neck. The bigger wyvern roared in agony from it and tried to thrash its way out of the smaller one's hold. But it wasn't counting on Papa Rath also coming in from behind and sinking his own teeth into the enemy creature's hide as well. The bites from the two only made the Deviljho fight more fiercely to escape. Jacob was about to move in and help them when he was suddenly blocked by Boltia moving in front of him. He looked to the Tobi-Kadachi and said, "But I can help. I want to fight by your side."
But the Tobi-Kadachi didn't seem to think it a good idea when she pushed him back with her head. With a small growl she was telling him to get out of here. Taking the hint, Jacob started moving away from the battle while watching as Boltia turned and rushed for the Deviljho with a growl. The Fanged Wyvern launched herself up at the struggling devil monster and sank her own fangs into the underside of the Deviljho's throat. She followed up with scratching at the bigger creature's chest with her claws. It seemed to only infuriate the Deviljho more as it let loose another pained roar.
Though still not wanting to Jacob turned and started running, but the Deviljho didn't seem too keen on letting its prey get away so easily. Jacob glanced back to see the Brute Wyvern push all its enemies aside with a sharp twist of its body and all three wyverns crashed to the ground. The Deviljho quickly turned and smacked its head against Papa Rath while using its tail to slap the Anjanath back. The brute then used its head to slam Boltia down and left her in a dazed state. Knowing that his friends needed his help, Jacob climbed onto a rock and shouted, "Hey, Deviliath!"
His shout made the Deviljho look up from his downed friends. He had an idea of how to get it away from them, but felt that it was a bad one. The human teen then taunted, "I bet you couldn't grab really slow prey with arms as tiny as those!"
That seemed to really rile up the Deviljho as it let loose its big cat-like roar and rushed past the trio. Knowing that he was in for it now, Jacob turned, jumped off the rock and ran through the tall grass with the devil beast gaining. Jacob turned to go down the path with the dense brush and dropped down to slide through it. He didn't stop even when he heard the sounds of the Deviljho getting stuck for a moment in the brush behind him. Jacob rushed past the opening and came out to the river. He thought he could lose the beast by getting to a safe spot along the ridge. So the teen quickly made his way for the opening on the other side. He looked back to see the Deviljho emerge around the bend and it gave another roar as it continued to chase after him. Though starting to feel tired after all he had done today, Jacob pushed himself and prayed that he could elude this beast yet again. Making it to the opening, Jacob pulled himself up before turning to the right. He rushed for the first drop and hopped down. Taking a deep breath when he landed, Jacob moved to see if the Deviljho was still following after him. When he didn't see anything at first, Jacob thought that the Deviljho would try to take another route. But he knew that it was still out there and knew to remain on guard for the time being.
(End track)
Jacob moved along the ridge and jumped down the second drop when he heard some rocks falling to his left. Looking up, his eyes widened when he saw the Deviljho leaping across a path made by towering rocks. With a shake of his head he commented, "Okay, that's not fair."
But knowing that it wasn't the time, Jacob started running to beat the Deviljho to the other side. Coming up on the last drop before the tree and the pond, Jacob was about to jump when the Deviljho beat him to it by crashing to the ground with a loud boom. Taking a chance, Jacob leapt from the cliff and just barely managed to avoid the jaws while landing on the monster's back. Not wanting to stick around, Jacob fired the grappling hook of his slinger and it caught onto a branch of the tree. Quickly retracting it he pulled his legs out of the way when the Deviljho tried to make a lunging bite for him. Swinging across the pond, Jacob got the hook to release and he dropped onto the cliffside on the other side of the pond. The teen quickly moved away when the Brute Wyvern made a leap for him. The Deviljho's snapping jaws was but a few inches from him as it fell down into the pond below. Jacob looked over the edge to see it make a large splash when it landed.
Not wanting to stick around, Jacob quickly started running again up the slope. From the sounds of footfalls and growls behind him, he knew that the beast was once again right behind him. He cried out when he lost his footing and slipped on the rocky surface. Looking back, the human gasped when he saw the Deviljho raise its head to attack. Quickly moving out of the way, Jacob landed between the beast's feet when its head came down. Staying on the move to avoid its feet when the stomped around him while underneath it. Acting quickly, Jacob bashed his shield against the leg of the brute pretty hard and it made the Deviljho cry out in pain. Taking the opportunity, he quickly dashed out from underneath the beast and ran for the cover of the cave. The Deviljho turned with a growl and started to move after the human. But before it could chase after him or he reach the cave to try and get away, a shape came flying through and snatched the boy off the ground. The Deviljho gave a furious roar as the shape carried Jacob over the trees.
Jacob became a bit worried for whatever had him in its clutches, but looking up he smiled when he saw that he was in the talons of Mama Rath. A lot of questions were running through his mind, but right now he was just thanking God that he was with someone more friendly. Mama Rath carried the human to the top of the towering wall of vines and released him from her grip before dropping down next to him. Turning to the Rathian Jacob gratefully said, "Boy am I glad to see you.
"Where are the trio?" He asked, worried about them being alone. Mama Rath answered his question by turning her head in the direction of the nest. Not wanting them to be left alone for too long, Jacob advised, "Let's get out of here and get you back to them."
Mama Rath seemed to agree with him by turning and opening her wings up. But the sound of big cat-like growls made them both tense up. Looking back to the edge of the wall, they were shocked to see the Deviljho making its way up them when they saw its head start to come over the side. Mama Rath moved to where she grabbed Jacob by the hood of the cloak and started to take off. But before she could get very far, she yelped in pain and dropped the boy in the process. Jacob landed on the ground and picked himself up. Looking back, he was shocked to see the Deviljho have a hold on her tail with its teeth. From how it was looking, the enemy wyvern managed to grab her and not get stuck with the poisoned spikes on her tail. With a yank of its head, the Brute Wyvern pulled the Flying Wyvern out of the sky and threw her to the ground near the edge of the drop. Mama Rath gave a pained groan as she laid there.
Jacob narrowed his eyes in anger from how this jerk was treating yet another one of his friends. Deciding to take action, Jacob applied another rock and fired his slinger at the Deviljho while unsheathing the sword. The rock smacked against the beast's cheek and it turned to him with a growl. With a yell of his own, Jacob rushed forward and jumped to the side when the Deviljho smashed its tail against the ground. With a downward motion of his swing, he managed to land a pretty good-sized slash to the beast. The Deviljho roared in pain to this and Jacob turned and twisted his body before delivering another to the underside of his adversary. While the blows sent the monster stumbling back, Jacob rushed for a wall made of branches and used them to leap at the pained wyvern. Sticking his sword straight out, the blade pierced the hide of the monster and Jacob held on as it started to thrash about. When it started to wildly turn itself, the sword started to slip out from where it pierced the Deviljho's hide. Deciding to speed things a long, Jacob removed the blade and somersaulted through the air. Landing in front of Mama Rath as she was starting to get back on her feet, he looked up to see the Deviljho growl down at him in anger. Holding the sword at the ready, both Jacob and Mama Rath prepared to hold their own against the monster. The Deviljho let loose another roar before charging right for the two. But before the human and the Rathian could even make a move to defend themselves, an unseen force managed to knock them both out of the way of the charging Brute Wyvern. Just as the Deviljho rushed past the two, Jacob looked up to see Papa Rath now in its path. Jacob held up his shield arm to the male Rath as he shouted, "Papa Rath!"
But it was too late when the brute collided with the Rathalos and both were sent falling over the edge. Quickly getting back onto his feet, Jacob rushed over to the edge to see both wyverns crash to the ground and tumbled away from the wall of vines. Looking back to Mama Rath as she got up on her feet again he said, "Come on! Papa Rath needs our help."
All he heard was a small growl from her before jumping over the edge. Landing in a crouch when he touched the bottom, Jacob looked over to the two to see both beasts in a bit of dazed state with the Rathalos' tail lying on top of the Deviljho's side. The latter was the first to recover from the fall as the Brute Wyvern rose to its feet. Quickly acting, Jacob rushed up and jumped onto the brute's tail. The devil monster must have felt him as it started thrashing its tail about. Jacob felt sick from all the shaking but did his best to keep the beast's attention on him. Looking up to the head, he gasped when he saw the Deviljho open its jaws wide before twisting its body and bringing its tail close to its head. Letting go of the appendage, the Deviljho ended up biting down on its own tail and it gave a pained grunt from its own mistake. Releasing the appendage, the Deviljho threw back its head and roared in agony.
Jacob couldn't celebrate just yet as it turned its attention on him. Quickly getting back onto his feet, he swung the blade of his sword to keep the Deviljho back when it brought its head forward. Moving back while keeping his grip on his sword, Jacob stole a glance over to Papa Rath who was now just picking himself back up. He snapped back to attention when the Brute Wyvern tried to slam its head down at him again and he jumped back. The stone around his neck lifted up in front of him for a moment and Jacob's eyes widened when it turned a blue color. This meant that they were fighting a jerk of a male and the fight would go on until they chased it off or someone was dead. But he couldn't dwell on such thoughts when he came at him while trying to knock his side into him.
A roar from above caused the Deviljho to stop and they both looked up to see Mama Rath quickly flying down. The Rathian swung her tail around and managed to land a slap to the Deviljho's head. But before he could retaliate, Papa Rath came in by launching a fireball from behind and it caused him to yelp in pain. But the Brute Wyvern didn't seem like he was going to abandon this fight anytime soon as he lunged for Mama with his jaws wide open. Mama Rath flew back to avoid the jagged chompers and fired her own fireball at the enemy beast. The Deviljho ducked underneath the projectile and it exploded against the ground.
Jacob was about to go on the attack when a couple of familiar roars came from behind. He glanced back to see Boltia and the Anjanath come charging down the slope from higher up in the tree. He started running when they met up with him and with a holler of his own they went on the attack. Rearranging his gear, Jacob pulled his shield from his arm and threw it at the bullying monster. The circular piece of metal smacked into his side and caused the Brute Wyvern to yelp in pain while jumping back a bit. The Tobi-Kadachi quickly dashed around the surrounded Deviljho while the Brute Wyvern on their side bashed his skull against the other's head. The blow sent him staggering back and Boltia used the momentum and herself to trip up the Deviljho. The bigger Brute Wyvern crashed to the ground and squirmed as he tried to right himself up again.
With their foe seemingly defeated at the moment, Jacob thought that they might just leave him be. But the sound of shrill shrieks made him look back. The teen gasped when he saw three familiar shapes gliding down from the sky. Mama, Papa, Boltia and the Anjanath all looked to see the three newcomers as well. The two older Raths came around Boltia and the Anjanath as Jacob rushed over to the three and questioned, "What are you guys doing here?
"I mean, I have to admit you gliding all the way here was pretty impressive for someone your age." He said with a grin. But it fell when pointed out, "But you being here right now is a bad idea.
"We need to get you out of here." He said and looked around for an idea. But everyone tensed up when the Deviljho gave another roar. Looking back, the downed male Brute Wyvern had gotten back onto her feet. He looked between the four bigger wyverns before her gaze fell upon Jacob and the Rath hatchlings. Jacob stood protectively in front of the three hatchlings while Mama and Papa themselves looked at the Deviljho with heated glares.
Mama Rath was the first to go on the attack by leaping into the air and flying for the savage brute. The Deviljho made a sweeping motion of its body while unleashing its dragon breath. The deadly cloud made Mama Rath stop midflight and the Deviljho took advantage of her hesitance. With a single leap it used its head to knock her aside and the blow sent Mama crashing against a tree. The Rathian screeched as she tried to get back up. Papa Rath screeched in fear for his mate. Both he and the Anjanath roared as they charged for the Deviljho. The Deviljho roared back as he rushed forward and with a couple sweeps from his head it released its dragon breath attack again. It caused the two to become disoriented and open to another attack. With a quick motion of his body, he slapped the two away with tail. Both crashed into a rock or a tree and squirmed to get back up.
(Cue Live Through this First from Monster Hunter)
Then turning his sights on Boltia who came charging at him and the Deviljho opened his jaws wide. Jacob watched in horror as she was violently yanked into the air by the Deviljho with her middle in the beast's jaws. When Papa Rath and the Anjanath managed to get back up they tried to go in for another attack, the bigger Brute Wyvern turned and used the captive Boltia to knock the two back. Feeling really angry at that, Jacob remembered that he still had a rock or two on him and applied one to his slinger. He aimed and fired the rock at the Deviljho. The stone flew through the air before smacking against the brute's side. The Brute Wyvern turned to look at him with Boltia in his jaws. With a glare Jacob said, "Give me back my Tobi-Kadachi!"
The Deviljho obliged him by throwing the Fanged Wyvern at him. Quickly acting, Jacob turned and shielded the three young Raths with his body. He felt Boltia pass over them when the rush of air nearly knocked the four over. Looking up, he saw the Tobi-Kadachi giving a pained squeal as she tried to right herself again. The sound of a foot stomping down behind him made Jacob nervously look back. The Deviljho slowly stomped towards them and the human wondered what he should do.
It was then he remembered something that he had grabbed earlier this morning. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small arrowhead made of a parashroom. Quickly applying it to his slinger, he looked back to the trio and said, "Wait right here."
The trio just looked to the human as he looked up to the savage beast before him. Taking a deep breath he said, "Like David, I will face my Goliath. God give me strength."
The Deviljho let loose another roar before rushing towards him. Jacob rushed forward with his own yell and dropped down to slide underneath the Brute Wyvern. When he stopped, Jacob fired the grappling hook and with a yank of his arm, it caught in the lower set of teeth of the beast. The Deviljho growled as he threw his head back. But Jacob had expected this when he was yanked off his feet. As he was pulled towards a tree, he managed to touch the trunk with both feet before grabbing a thick branch with his other arm. Holding on as best as he could, Jacob strained to keep his grip on the branch while fighting to keep his slinger arm still.
He looked down at the glaring Brute Wyvern and glared back himself as he waited for the right moment. When the Deviljho raised his head with his maw open wide, Jacob fired the arrowhead towards the opening. Gravity helped the piece of mushroom and it flew down into the beast's throat. The Deviljho's eyes widened from the feeling of the paralysis taking over. With a grin on his face, Jacob quickly moved his arm to where the hook dislodged itself from the devil beast's mouth. The Deviljho started to stiffen up a little as Jacob dropped down from the tree.
(End of track)
But just as he was about to rush up and move the three young Raths out of there, the Deviljho managed to strike him hard with a swing of his tail. The blow sent Jacob flying before he collided back first into the tree. He cried out from how hard he had struck it before falling to the ground. Landing on his side with a pained gasp, Jacob weakly looked up to see the Deviljho hack up the arrow he had used on it. With a shake of his body, the enemy Brute Wyvern managed to fight the effects of the parashroom. The blow he took made Jacob's vision hazy as he could feel his consciousness slipping. His eyes slowly closed as his head laid against the ground again.
Samson, Verda and Diana all screeched to the human and it made the four bigger monsters look to the human. The three young Raths rushed over to Jacob with Verda looking over the boy while Samson and Diana both screeching at the bigger monster. Before fully blacking out, Jacob urged them, "Go, … g-get out of… here."
His eyes shut and Verda tried to nudge him awake again. The Deviljho roared down at all of them and moved to attack.
(Cue SSJ Transformation from Dragon Ball Z)
But four loud roars caused the Deviljho to stop in its tracks and look back. The three Raths looked up to see their parents, Boltia and the Anjanath looking to the more savage brute with dark glares. They were all shaking like they were fighting to control themselves, but were greatly angered from what they were seeing. The four looked to the still form of the human and the thought of him or the three harmed made their blood boil. For the Tobi-Kadachi, she felt like she was about to lose her one and only friend. For Mama and Papa Rath, it was almost like they had lost a member of their family. And for the Anjanath, he didn't know if the person who gave him a second chance was still alive. Boltia's fur was starting to rise and looked a lot more jagged than usual and electricity started to form around her as she swished her tail along the side of a tree. The nose crest and the wings extended from the Anjanath. The moss like fur on Mama Rath's back stuck up. Flames burned around the edges of the firebreather's mouths and seemed to grow with each breath they took. The electricity started to grow on the Tobi-Kadachi as she growled in anger. All four snarled at the Deviljho and he responded by having the muscles on his body expand and turn a darker green and the red markings on his body glowed a little. All five of the bigger monsters had entered a state of enragement. With violent roars they all rushed for the other side.
(End of track)
Mama and Papa started it off by launching fireballs at the enemy beast. The Deviljho recoiled from the blasts before sweeping its head to unleash a cloud of dragon breath. The four stayed back while the two Raths took to the air and used their wings to fan the dark cloud away. The savage Brute Wyvern rushed for the four again, but this time they were more ready for him. The Anjanath unleashed a torrent of fire from his nostrils across the ground and it caused the enemy monster to step back from the sudden wall of flames. Boltia then acted on his hesitance by jumping onto the Anjanath's back before jumping again. She managed to grab onto Mama Rath's talons in a single bound and held on tight to the Flying Wyvern. With a fling of her body, the Rathian threw the Tobi-Kadachi over the flames and towards their adversary. Boltia collided with the Deviljho and it sent the bigger monster staggering back. But she didn't relent on him as she harshly gripped his side with her front hands and fangs and buried her back talons in his chest. With a quick motion of her tail, she wrapped the appendage around the bigger monster's head. She gave a loud shriek and unleashed all the energy stored within her. A large boom of electricity followed and Boltia fell off of the Deviljho. Her attack had singed much of the bigger monster's head and snout and left him dazed for a moment. Even Boltia needed a breather after dealing that kind of attack. He panted from the large attack before regaining his breath. But before he could turn to the Tobi-Kadachi, the Anjanath came in and with a leap he landed a big kick to his side and it sent the Deviljho stumbling back.
While the four bigger monsters were engaging the Deviljho, Samson and Diana moved to help Verda look after the unmoving Jacob. The human teen wasn't responding to the little Rath's nudges and she looked to her siblings with a worried look. The three little Raths looked to each other before moving around Jacob as a way to watch over him while looking back over the battle. While the Rathalos and Pink Rathian kept an eye on things, Verda kept trying to get her human friend to wake up.
Over with the older monsters, Papa Rath managed to swat the savage Brute Wyvern in the head with his tail while Mama swooped by and landed a few slashes across their adversary's back. The Deviljho roared in pain from the blows and the Anjanath looked ready to blast more fire at him. But the green monster quickly knocked the Anjanath's head to the side with his own and it caused the flames to ignite some brush. The area started to take a red hue as the flames continued to grow. The Deviljho went on the attack by tackling the Anjanath to the ground but ended up falling onto the other side. Both Brute Wyverns were quick to rise on their feet again, but the Deviljho attacked first by grabbing onto the back of the Anjanath's neck with a savage growl. The purple Brute Wyvern roared in pain from this and let his nose crest and wings fall back before falling onto its side. This caused the Deviljho to fall as well and lose his grip. When they got back up for the second time, the Deviljho once again got the upper hand by ramming into the Anjanath and knocking him onto his side. The towering beast looked to take a bite out of him, but he was rescued when the Tobi-Kadachi came in and jumped onto the Deviljho's side and bit down hard on his flank. The Deviljho roared in pain from this and moved his head to where he could get to the Fanged Wyvern. But a shriek from the two Raths made him look up to see the Rathian and Rathalos both descend upon him. Boltia quickly jumped off to get out of the way. Mama and Papa Rath both crashed down on the Deviljho and knocked him off his feet. He landed on the ground with a thud and the Anjanath used the moment to get up and move away from the three for the moment. The green Brute Wyvern roared in pain from the talons sunk into his flesh and could feel the poison from the Rathalos starting to seep in the longer they remained. The Deviljho squirmed to get out of the hold. He was greatly startled when both Raths flapped their wings to lift him in the air a little. Then with a heave of their bodies, they dropped down again and slammed him down into the earth with them on top. The Deviljho whimpered from the beating it received and with another roar it got them to jump off. The two Raths moved back to where they stood between their foe and their allies and children.
The Deviljho shakily rose onto his feet with a small roar and looked to the four with glares. But Boltia and the Anjanath moved to stand with Mama and Papa before all four wyverns gave their respective roars in defiance to the Deviljho. When they finished their roars, the Anjanath finished with a snort to prove their point. Seeing that there was no chance of getting any prey or its prize in the human, the Deviljho gave a snarl before moving to walk off to another part of the forest. When they were sure that he was gone, all four of the older wyverns took deep breaths after such an ordeal. The Anjanath quickly moved to extinguish the flames he had created with his foot.
Screeches from the other side of the area made all four monsters turn their heads. Samson, Verda and Diana were still standing by the still form of Jacob. All four of them carefully made their way towards the unconscious human. The green Rathian was still trying to nudge him awake with her head against his. It seemed to get a response from the human when Jacob unconsciously said in a low voice, "Grumper."
The Anjanath responded by coming a little closer. The purple Brute Wyvern seemed to acknowledge the name as he lowered his head. A warning growl from Mama Rath made him glance to her. When the three little Raths had moved out of the way, Grumper looked down to the human again. Jacob still didn't look to be waking up, but it was evident that he was still alive by the shallow breathing. He could tell that the boy was badly hurt by the collision with the tree plus whatever blows he took during the fight. Carefully opening his jaws, Grumper managed to gently pick the human up. His action caused the other wyverns to growl at him while the hatchlings screeched up at him. But he managed to give a low growl of his own while holding onto the boy. With an eye he glanced to the unconscious human teen before carefully moving his head up at the Ancient Tree. They all looked up when they heard thunder booming overhead and looked up to see the dark clouds returning.
Though they didn't seem too keen with what the Anjanath was doing, both Mama and Papa Rath stepped back from the Brute Wyvern holding the human. They growled down at their three hatchlings to tell them to come along. Samson, Verda and Diana all looked to the human above them with worried looks but ended up complying with their parents. Mama Rath allowed the three to climb up her tail to the moss-like fur on her back. After they were secure by gripping their talons onto her back, the four gave one last look to the unconscious boy before the Rathian took off with her passengers. Papa remained behind a moment and growled at the Anjanath and gave a slight glare. Grumper only gave him a slight look before watching the Rathalos take off after his family.
Grumper started to walk towards the tree when Boltia moved in front of him. She growled up at him as if telling him that she was coming too. Grumper looked to her and thought for a moment before gesturing his head towards the tree. Taking this as a hint for her to come along, Boltia remained side by side with the bigger wyvern as he carried Jacob up the tree.
They went up the slope that led to the tunnel that Jacob had come down through earlier. The two wyverns remained side by side with both giving a glance to Jacob as he hung limply in the Anjanath's jaws. The Tobi-Kadachi gave a worried growl when they made it to where her nest was. Grumper carried the unconscious human up the botanical walkway that went around the arena before making for an opening on the other side. The rain started to come down just as they made it under the shelter of plants. There were a few paths to take and Grumper turned to go down a way that went to a lower spot. A few Jagras came up and screeched at him and Boltia quickly darted up front and harshly roared at them. The three Jagras took the hint by rushing off. Grumper went down the path first and nearly had to squeeze through in some parts, but made sure not to put too much pressure on the human with his jaw. When he made it to the bottom, the Anjanath glanced about before his sights set on a large bug in the middle of the space. It was holding a large green sack filled with a liquid in it. The Tobi-Kadachi easily entered the space after him and saw the bug as well. The insect lazily flew around even though the two were there. Grumper carefully maneuvered his head to where it was underneath the bug. Then he glanced to Boltia before gesturing his head to the bug. Taking the hint from him, Boltia lashed out with her claws and managed to cause the sack to burst. The insect buzzed with a slight fear and took off to avoid any potential harm.
The contents splashed down on Jacob and a little got on them as well. Boltia and Grumper both watched and waited to see if the human would wake up. But they became worried again when it didn't look like it. Moving carefully around the unconscious boy, Grumper laid down next to him. Boltia moved to lay down on his other side and glanced over at the Anjanath who only looked back at her. The two could only hope that the human would wake up soon.

Author's Note: Man that was a long chapter. But it was a fun one nonetheless. Don't worry, Jacob isn't gonna die from this confrontation. Okay, I need to let you guys know that the chapters may kind of be slowing down a little. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See all of you next time.
